The impact of the parent-adolescent relationship on risky internet behavior

This study suggests that adolescents with a poor self-esteem and poor social development are more at risk for online predators. Adolescents from insecure parent-child relationships could be at greater risk for engaging in risky online internet behavior. The primary purpose of this study is to examine this link.

In 'n poging om die adolessent se leefwereld te verstaan, was dit nodig om die adolessent-in-totaliteit aan te spreek. Daar is aangedui hoe emosionele trauma soos die skielike werkloosheid van die vader nie net die adolessent se fisieke-, kognitiewe-, affektiewe-, sosiale- en normatiewe wording rem nie, maar dat dit ook 'n negatiewe invloed op skolastiese prestasie het. Vaderlike werkloosheid het 'n besondere invloed op die relasies binne die gesin. Die adolessent se leefwereld, wat die Gestalt is van al die relasies wat hy/sy gevorm het, word beduidend deur die vader se werkloosheid geraak. Die empiriese studie toon dat die adolessent wie se vader werkloos geraak het, se betekenisgewing, belewing en betrokkenheid negatief is en derhalwe word sy selfaktualisering gerem en is hy uiteindelik op terapeutiese ingryping aangewese. / The aim of this study was to determine the effect of fathers unemployment on the adolescent's life world. In an attempt to understand the adolescent's life world, it was necessary to address the adolescent in totality. It has been shown how emotional trauma, such as the unexpected unemployment of the father, not only impairs the adolescent's physical-, cognitive-, affective-, social- and normative development but also has a negative influence on scholastic performance. The unemployment of a father has a particular influence on the relations within the family. The adolescent's life world, which is the Gestalt of all the relations that he or she formed, is also particularly influenced by the father's unemployment. The empirical research reveals that the adolescent who's father is unemployed is much more inclined to negative meaning, involvement and experience. Menoridade penal e medidas sócio-educativas: alguns aspectos fáticos e legais da internação em Jataí

Esta pesquisa analisa as medidas sócio-educativas elencadas pelo artigo 112 do Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente, a partir da realidade do Centro de Internação de Adolescentes de Jataí (CIAJ), Goiás, especialmente, das internações de adolescentes ocorridas nos anos de 2007 e 2008. Tem o objetivo de verificar a efetividade da medida sócio-educativa de internação. Para isso, o primeiro capítulo apresenta um panorama da compreensão histórica do lugar das crianças e dos adolescentes na sociedade, em particular, na Bíblia, na Grécia e na Roma Antigas, na Idade Média e no contexto brasileiro atual. O segundo capítulo sintetiza o progresso da legislação tutelar de crianças e adolescentes no mundo e no Brasil em especial, problematizando o debate da redução da maioridade penal e as reformulações legislativas expressas pelo Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente, bem como as medidas sócio-educativas elencadas pelo artigo 112. O terceiro capítulo aborda e avalia o Centro de Internação de Adolescentes de Jataí (CIAJ), seu complexo, suas características, sua equipe de trabalho e a situação e a trajetória dos adolescentes internados em 2007 e em 2008. Por fim, a pesquisa aponta que, em Jataí, a efetividade da medida sócio-educativa de internação e, de igual modo, das medidas de liberdade assistida e de prestação de serviços à comunidade encontram-se prejudicadas justamente pela falta da implantação dos preceitos consignados no Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente por parte do Poder Público, voltados à educação e à socialização de adolescentes envolvidos na prática de crimes ou de contravenções penais. / This research analyzes the social-educational acts stipulated by the article 112 of the Childs and Teenagers Statute, starting from the reality of the Teenager Internment Center of Jataí (CIAJ), Goiás, especially, of the teenagers internments happened in the years of 2007 and 2008. It has the objective of verifying the effectiveness of social-educational act of internment. So, the first chapter presents a panorama of the historical understanding of childrens and teenagers place in society, in matter, in the Bible, in Old Greece and Old Rome, in Middle Age and in current Brazilian context. The second chapter synthesizes the progress of the childrens and teenagers guardian legislation in the world and in Brazil especially, problematizing the debate of the reduction of penal majority and the legislative reformulations of the Childs and Teenagers Statute, as well as the social-educational acts stipulated by the article 112. The third chapter approaches and evaluates the Teenager Internment Center of Jataí (CIAJ), its facilities, its characteristics, its work team and the situation and path of the teenagers interned in 2007 and in 2008. Finally, the research points that, in Jataí, the effectiveness of the social-educational act of internment and, in equal way, the social-educational act of attended freedom and the act of services rendered to community, is prejudiced exactly for the lack of implantation of precepts consigned in the Childs and Teenager Statute by the Public Power, focus on the education and socialization for teenagers which are involved in practice of crimes or of penal misdemeanors.

Assimilation, social network sites and Asian stereotype : understanding Chinese-American teenagers in Austin

Given the increasing number of younger immigrants from China, we have noticed diversified performances of Chinese-American teenagers based on the age they come to the U.S. This thesis thus examines three specific aspects—assimilation, social network site (SNS) use, and reaction to Asian stereotype—of Chinese-American teenagers living in Austin, regarding intraethnic differences between and among different clusters of this cohort as the second generation immigrant. By employing semi-structured interviews conducted with teenagers who have respective immigrant history and family background, a wide array of patterns about assimilation, SNS use, and reaction to Asian stereotype are traced and analyzed alongside demonstrating outlines and traits in terms of different generation clusters (1.25ers, 1.5ers, 1.75ers and 2.0ers). A total of ten Chinese-American teenagers, aged from 15 to 18, are recruited and interviewed through snowball approach, allowing for the surface of intraethnic variations on the aforementioned aspects. Preliminary discussions are made to tease out how these three aspects are intertwined. / text

The purpose of this study is to investigate the stress experienced by teenage mothers attending school and the need for multi-faced and strength-based stress management programs. Trends of teenage pregnancy in developing and developed countries are looked at. Causes and consequences of teenage motherhood stress are also explored. One of the consequences of teenage motherhood is stress. There are programs aimed at alleviating stress of teenage motherhood. Some of these programs are evaluated. The findings of this study indicate that there is a need for multi-faced and strength-based interventions for teenage mothers. After the literature study, an empirical research was conducted to explore challenges faced by teenage mothers. Data was collected by means of semi-structured interviews with ten teenage mothers attending school and ten educators teaching teenage mothers. Collected data was analysed using the thematic data analysis approach. The major findings of the study include opinions that teenage mothers do not get assistance from school, home and in the community; teenage mothers are not ready for motherhood; they experience a feeling of vulnerability and poor performance at school. There is a need for educators to be trained in handling teenage mothers, as well as the need for multi-faceted and strength-based interventions. However, it was evident through empirical research that some teenage mothers cope with their lives through talking to caring parents, spending quality time with their children, having a vision, keeping themselves busy and accepting that having a child while attending school is a challenge. Lastly, conclusions from the literature study and empirical research are presented in chapter five. Recommendations for practice, the contribution of the study, limitations of the study and recommendations for further study are also detailed. Teve como fundamento para análise a mudança de paradigma para a socioeducação e a consolidação do Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente – ECA, destacando a construção de uma prática de acompanhamento e de implementação de ações de caráter intersetorial e interdisciplinar no atendimento ao adolescente. / [en] This study is a reflection on the challenges for the realization of the rights contained in public policy aimed at adolescents who have mental impairments, and which are under socio-in open (probation and community service) as opposed to that regulates the National Socio-Educational Services. Retrieves the beginning of the process of municipalization of childcare in the open environment, in a given area in the northern city of Rio de Janeiro and reflects on the social support of adolescents under social assistance. It was the basis for analysis of the paradigm shift to social educational approach and consolidation of the Child and Adolescent Statute highlighting the construction of a practice of monitoring and implementing actions of intersectorial and interdisciplinary care in adolescents.
