Serrano, Olga Rocio 20 January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this research is to propose a modelling of a cultural dictionary for students of French as a foreignlanguage in Colombia. [en] GLOSSARY OF COMPOUND TERMS IN CARDIOLOGY: A PROPOSAL OF DEVELOPMENT / [pt] GLOSSÁRIO DE TERMOS COMPOSTOS EM CARDIOLOGIA: UMA PROPOSTA DE ELABORAÇÃO

STELA MARIS COSTALONGA E GANDOUR 01 September 2004 (has links)
[en] This research aimed at developing a Portuguese-English glossary of compound terms in cardiology with the aid of electronic tools for corpus processing based on automation technology. The scarcity of reference material available for translators and interpreters in the medical area in Portuguese and the great frequency of occurrence of compound terms in the medical language motivated this research. The 21,872-word corpus consisted of several articles published in a monthly bilingual Brazilian scientific periodical, which is originally written in Portuguese by cardiologists and translated into English by the researcher. Different criteria were used for selecting the compound terms, yielding a 271-compound list in alphabetical order. Each term's corresponding English translation published in the scientific magazine was added to the list. The result was a Portuguese-English glossary with 271 compound terms in cardiology. Considerations on terminology, which served as basis for the research, and its relation to translation are provided.

Rangi za Kiswahili

Schadeberg, Thilo C. 15 October 2012 (has links)
Swahili has a larger inventory of (more or less \"basic\") colour terms than most Bantu languages. The aim of this article is to present this colour terminology and to point out semantic, syntactic and morphological divergences. We also look at the etymology of the various colour terms and try to establish a chronology of the growth (and decline?) of Swahili colour terminology.

LA NEOLOGIE ET LA CONSTRUCTION MORPHOSEMANTIQUE DANS LA COMMUNICATION SPECIALISEE EN FRANCAIS: LES FIBRES CHIMIQUES ENTRE LA SYNCHRONIE ET LA DIACHRONIE

DANKOVA, KLARA 21 July 2020 (has links)
The thesis proposes a terminological path aimed at tracing the general evolution of French terminology relating to textile fibres from the 18th century onwards, with a specific focus on the formation of new terms in the domain of chemical textile fibres. In line with the fundamental principles of the most advanced studies in the field of diachronic terminology, the work aims to account for the evolution of terminology in the domain under study, highlighting the cultural value of the terms and the link with technological development and the socio-economic context. The study is divided into five chapters. The first chapter provides a description of the theoretical framework, while the second and third present analyses of the main French-published studies on textiles and textile fibres during two periods – from the 18th to 19th centuries and from the 20th century to the present, respectively. Chapter four presents a construction of the domain corpus, while the fifth chapter engages in a linguistic-terminological analysis, focused on the process of the formation of fibre names. At the end of the study is a glossary containing terminology sheets analysing the French terms given to chemical textile fibres, alongside equivalents in Italian and English.

The prevalence of oral symptoms and perceived needs of HIV positive persons in Cape Town, South Africa

Camara, Cecily Jean January 1996 (has links)
Magister Scientiae Dentium - MSc(Dent) / The Human Immunodeficient Virus (HIV) is escalating in South Africa at an alarming rate. The impact of HIV today and in the future could have grave consequences for the South African population as it affects adults in their most productive years. To ease costs on the health system, health workers should be familiar with HIV patients needs in general, and specifically in areas such as oral disease which can contribute to the wellness or ill health of the patient. This could facilitate more appropriate and cost effective care ofHIV patients. World-wide reports indicate that the HIV virus is more prevalent in females than males. Women are also experiencing greater virulence of HIV and therefore greater severity of the disease. This research assessed whether there were differences in the prevalence and severity of oral symptoms ofHIV positive men and women. Oral health practices were also examined. As oral disease is very prevalent in HIV positive persons and has been a neglected area for research and program development, it was included in this study. This study also aimed to assess the perceived needs of patients affected by HIV. Such a study presents HIV positive patients an opportunity to participate in a process which allows patients to voice their needs and problems, as well as be involved in setting priorities. The study sought to assess whether needs differed according to the patients gender, age and symptom levels. A needs questionnaire with five domains which included medical and oral needs, social, economic, psychological and informational domains of needs was developed. The measure also included a section on demographics and oral health questions, and was administered as a structured interview. The sample consisted of 338 HIV positive males and females residing in Cape Town and its environs and attending the Out Patients' Departments of three major provincial hospitals, as well as two community clinics during May to November of 1995.

Výuka řecko-latinské lékařské terminologie ve studijních programech všeobecného lékařství na lékařských fakultách v České republice a ve světě / Greek and Latin medical terminology instruction in programmes of general medicine at medical schools in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Beran, Aleš January 2013 (has links)
TITLE: Greek and Latin medical terminology instruction in programmes of general medicine at medical schools in the Czech Republic and abroad. AUTHOR: Aleš Beran DEPARTMENT: Department of Education SUPERVISOR: doc. PhDr. Miroslava Váňová, CSc. ABSTRACT: The thesis seeks to provide a systematic description of the Greek and Latin medical terminology instruction at Czech and foreign medical schools. Its main objective is to build a platform for implementations of instructional innovations. In the first part of the thesis the medical terminology instruction in the Czech Republic is contextualized by giving a historical overview of development of medical terminology and dealing with origins of its instruction at the Faculty of General Medicine in Prague. The view of a present state of the instruction is completed by a profile of a typical medical student, which is based on the questionnaire. The next part of the thesis consists of detailed content analyses of selected Czech and foreign textbooks and their comparison. Based upon these analyses, an original typology of instructional models is set up which can be considered to be the most important theoretical outcome of the thesis. The typology is subsequently used as a tool for description of teaching medical terminology in Austria, Germany, United States, Canada,...
