”Det är svårt att konkurrera med internet.” En kvalitativ studie av musikintresserades informationsvanor. / ”It´s hard to compete with the Internet.” A qualitative study of the information habits of people interested in music.

Börjesson, Robert January 2012 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the information habits of peoplewith a serious interest in music. What information needs do theyexperience, what information sources do they seek out to fulfillthese needs and what part does the public libraries play in theirinformation habits? To answer these questions a qualitative approach was used. Fourrespondents with a serious interest in music were interviewed. The theoretic framework was based on Robert A. Stebbins theoryon serious leisure and Karen E. Pettigrew’s concept ofinformation grounds. The results of the study showed that the primary informationneeds consisted of: finding new music to listen to, findinginformation about artists and bands, finding information aboutopportunities to play live and finding information about musictechnology. The main information sources used were: friends andacquaintances and the internet. Additional sources like books andmagazines were also used to some extent. The findings show thatpublic libraries were used very moderately. When they on occasionwere used it was mainly to locate materials that could be hard tofind through other sources, for example sheet music. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Spectacles of Inclusion: Cultures of Leisure and Entertainment in Early Twentieth-Century Argentina

Tucker, Lara January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation examines the practices of leisure and consumption in early twentieth-century Buenos Aires through both intellectual and mass cultural productions. Using works by authors such as Horacio Quiroga and Roberto Arlt together with articles, images, and texts from the Argentine mass media, I examine how national, social and civic identities were intimately tied to, and were constituted through, technologically mediated leisure practices. Sports and film spectatorship, the reception of radio and the reading popular texts were all activities that opened spaces for the rehearsal of forms of citizenship and encouraged the formation of communities and publics both in line with and contrary to the hegemonic and disciplinary mechanisms of the state.

Cidade lúdica: um estudo antropológico sobre as práticas de Parkour em São Paulo / Ludic city: an anthropological study on the practice of Parkour in São Paulo

Marques, Rafael Adriano 18 February 2011 (has links)
This work introduces an ethnography study about the practice of Le Parkour performed in São Paulo city. This new corporal urban practice, native of France, is been gaining adepts from worldwide, especially after the emergence of video hosting sites on the internet. This study aims to provide a brief historical about the relationship between body and city, using the urban leisure as a point. For this, pretends to present the specificities of Parkour in this context. By historicizing the emergency of this news practices, intend to defend the hypothesis that they are marked by the passage of disciplinary society to control society. Finally, the study pretends to use the idea of ludic construction of the city in contrast to the notion of appropriation of urban space.

Saito, Cinthia Mayumi 17 September 2010 (has links)
The intervention strategies to improve social participation of people with disability in Brazil are, in general, linked to actions and health services or specialized programs for this population. Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation fields are identified as such areas of technical-specialized performance with specific knowledge, which strengthen the view of social segregation for all those people. This research intended to discuss the Leisure field, as a fundamental area of intervention, implied an interdisciplinary nature, to increase social participation of people with disability. A case study of Projeto Andanças incluir para mudar o olhar, a tour group for people with disability, developed in Ribeirão Pires, a city located in the metropolitan area of São Paulo (Brazil) was done. It is a public policy created from the desire to see those people in the diverse social spaces. A qualitative research was proposed and developed through Bibliographical Research, Participant Observation, Field work, Documental Study and Interview with key Informants. The results affirmed the Leisure field as a fundamental interdisciplinary intervention area to build a society that accepts the subjective diversity. The concept of leisure was understood as part of the process to increase social participation. It also reflected the production of life. Building an inclusive society needs actions that allow the contact with the human being diversity in daily life, enabling people to have an experience of otherness. Leisure, with its spontaneous nature, favors those contacts and affections. The discussion about social participation of those populations in leisure activities and its consequences are barely studied. This research presents the need to develop new studies about attitudes barriers, which brings another view to Leisure studies for people with disability

Skills and knowledge for service encounters in the leisure industry : implications for UK Higher Education

Firth, Miriam January 2018 (has links)
As a Higher Education (HE) lecturer in the United Kingdom (UK), I have taught Leisure students and supported their transition into placement work and graduate employment. This experience has made it clear to me that some students and graduates are not fully equipped to deal with the extensive customer demands placed on them in the workplace. The aim of this study is to analyse the skills and knowledge needed by graduates from Leisure courses to deal with real-world customer service encounters. A theoretical framework on skills, knowledge, education frameworks and employer requirements was used to identify what graduates might need in industry work and this was tests by gaining primary data from Leisure graduates. Critical incidents were gathered and interviews were conducted with five recent graduates and one current student from Leisure courses in Manchester. The data includes 57 critical incidents related to customer demands that the participants faced during service encounters in leisure roles; it also includes six semi-structured interviews on whether the participants felt their education prepared them to meet these demands. This study analyses the data using a theoretical framework of current publications and includes the theories of Soft Skills, Co-creation, Co-production, Emotional Labour, Aesthetic Labour, Sexualised Labour, Intercultural Sensitivity and Service Quality Theory. This study uses an innovative methodology to identify three key findings in support of the research questions. Staffs to staff dynamics and Intercultural Sensitivity are needed in Customer Service Encounter theory to use in Leisure UK Higher Education and fully prepare students for encounters in their graduate employment. These findings offer extensive contributions to current knowledge on theory and leisure education in UK HE to support development of all skills and knowledge needed for customer service encounters. Recommendations are raised to the Quality Assurance Agency (education governing body) and other leisure educators on how they might better educate and prepare their students for customer service encounters in graduate employment.

The effect of isometric exercise training on resting blood pressure, with specific reference to peripheral vascular function and structure

Howland, Lucinda Jayne January 2016 (has links)
Isometric exercise training has been shown to bring about beneficial reductions in resting blood pressure, however the physiological mechanism responsible remain equivocal. It is currently unknown whether isometric exercise training-induced reductions in resting blood pressure are associated with improvements in vascular endothelial function and structure. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effect of an 8-week isometric exercise training intervention on resting blood pressure, conduit artery vascular endothelial function, artery diameter and blood flow patterns at rest. Fourteen healthy young males (mean age: 23 ± 4 years; body mass: 80.7 ± 11.0kg; height: 178.8 ± 6.2cm) completed 8-weeks of isometric bilateral leg extension exercise training at high intensity (105.4% 2-min torquepeak). Three exercise sessions were performed each week and each session consisted of four 2-minute isometric muscular contractions each separated by a 3-minute recovery period. Resting blood pressure was measured using brachial artery oscillometric methods at pre, mid and post intervention. Brachial artery flow-mediated vasodilatation and resting artery diameter and blood flow were assessed at pre, week 2, mid, week 6 and post intervention using high-resolution duplex Doppler ultrasound. Total peripheral resistance and cardiac output were determined at pre and post intervention using high-resolution echocardiography. A generalised estimating equation analysis was used to estimate the effect of exercise versus non-exercise intervention over time on resting blood pressure, brachial artery flow-mediated vasodilatation, artery diameter and blood flow, total peripheral resistance and cardiac output. Isometric bilateral leg extension exercise training reduced resting systolic blood pressure (training: 117 vs. control: 121 mmHg) (P=0.002) and resting mean arterial pressure (training: 88 vs. control: 91 mmHg) (P=0.001) following 4 weeks of exercise training compared to the control condition. Brachial artery flowmediated vasodilatation was increased (mid training: 8.65 ± 1.02% vs. mid control: 6.38 ± 1.14%) (P=0.011). Superficial femoral artery diameter, antegrade blood flow and antegrade shear rate were increased (all P≤0.05), whilst superficial femoral retrograde shear rate was decreased (P=0.013) following 2 weeks of exercise training compared to the control condition. There were no significant condition by time interactions observed in resting blood pressure, vascular endothelial function, artery diameter or blood flow patterns following 8 weeks of exercise training (all P≥0.05). Cardiac output was not significantly different following 8 weeks of exercise training (P=0.148). Total peripheral resistance was increased following 8 weeks of exercise training compared to the non-exercising control condition (P=0.054). Isometric bilateral leg extension exercise training can effectively lower resting blood pressure and increase conduit artery endothelium-dependent vasodilatation in healthy young men after 4 weeks with a concomitant reduction in resting blood pressure. These beneficial adaptations were no longer evident from mid to post exercise training in healthy normotensive young men.

As contradições na atividade do lazer para a formação do sujeito: uma análise sob a ótica do enfoque histórico-cultural / The contradictions of leisure activities to the subject\'s formation: a historical-cultural analysis

Nascimento, Cristina Justino do 21 September 2017 (has links)
This research aims to identify the importance of leisure, as one of the social spheres that are part of daily life, in training and human development. The general objective of the research is to analyze the contradictions that are evidenced in the dialectical unity between the possibilities and the limits of leisure activity in the formation of the subject when it aims human emancipation. The research is based on the historical-cultural approach, with theoretical-methodological roots in historical and dialectical materialism. The field study was organized based on a leisure intervention carried out in one of the SESC units, through workshops integrated into the project called Programa de Férias. The leisure intervention applied by the researcher, with the contribution of a support team of SESC, is based on the conception of non-daily life that seeks to mediate the following areas of knowledge: philosophy, science, politics and art. The field study period occurred between January 12 and 22, 2016, with four different groups of children from 6 to 13 years old, composed of 25 children each, subdivided into two stages - a pilot project and an effective project. The organization of intervention and data analysis procedures are aimed at a holistic and complex perspective in the field of leisure. The analysis of emerging contradictions of concrete reality identifies the dialectical unity between the possibilities and limits of leisure activity through three axes: (1) the movement between researcher and SESC; (2) the movement between researcher and technical staff; (3) the movement between researcher and participants. As a result of the analysis, it was identified the need for leisure activity that aims at human development to be properly organized and systematized in order to promote human emancipation, since only the contents that contemplate non-daily life do not guarantee the objectification of the proposed activity. It is concluded that for the objectivation of human emancipation mediated by leisure activity, there is a need for a movement in search of the generic leisure-work-study unit, aiming at the formation of the subjects\' integral subjectivity. However, in order for the integral formation of the subjects to be objectified by means of leisure activity, it is considered necessary a movement of ideological overcoming of the French functionalism that persists in the hegemonic thinking in the area of leisure and a movement of struggle that seeks to guarantee ideals conditions of existence that are fully human development promoters
