[pt] ANÁLISE LIMITE COM OTIMIZADOR DE GRANDE ESCALA E ANÁLISE DE CONFIABILIDADE / [en] LIMIT ANALYSIS WITH LARGE SCALE OPTIMIZER AND RELIABILITY ANALYSISMAURO ARTEMIO CARRION PACHAS 27 October 2017 (has links)
[en] This work has, as its main objective, the development of an efficient and large scale optimizer, that allows the practical application of Numerical Limit Analysis (NLA) with Finite Element Method (FEM) to solve real problems in Geotechnical Engineering. For that purpose, an optimizer was developed for GEOLIMA (GEOtechnical LIMit Analysis) program (Carrión, 2004), based on Interior Points algorithm, computationally more efficient than the existing commercial optimizers. Due to the fact that soils have random properties, the possibility to apply Reliability Analysis with Limit Analysis using the FORM method was also investigated. Initially, Limit Analysis theory was presented together with its numerical formulation using the FEM. In sequence, the use of commercial optimizers was investigated in order to solve the resulting
mathematical problem. Subsequently, the theorical foundations of the developed optimizer, based on the Interior Points algorithm were described. A summary of Reliability Analysis was also presented together with a description of computational procedures using FORM and two examples were developed. Finally, analyses of different problems solved with developed optimizer were presented. The obtained results demonstrated the great potential of Numerical Limit Analysis (NLA), in the solution of real problems in Geotechnical Engineering.

[pt] OTIMIZAÇÃO TOPOLÓGICA ESTRUTURAL COM MUITOS CASOS DE CARGA: ABORDAGENS APROXIMAÇÃO ESTOCÁSTICA E DECOMPOSIÇÃO DE VALORES SINGULARES / [en] STRUCTURAL TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION WITH MANY LOAD CASES: STOCHASTIC APPROXIMATION AND SINGULAR VALUE DECOMPOSITION APPROACHESLUCAS DO NASCIMENTO SAGRILO 17 November 2022 (has links)
cargas dinâmicas usando o método do carregamento estático equivalente.
[en] It is known that most real structures are subject to different loading
scenarios, related to different structural solicitations and the action of natural
forces, such as winds and sea waves. In this context, it is important to consider
the effect of the largest number of possible scenarios that can act on a structure
when performing a topology optimization study. The traditional way of solving
this type of problem involves a case-by-case analysis of the scenarios, which in
the context of a structural optimization algorithm requires the solution of one
finite element problem for each scenario and at each step of the algorithm, being
limited by the high associated computational cost. This limitation leave room
for approaches based on dimenson reduction such as stochastic approximation
and decomposition into singular values. This work verifies the feasibility of
using these two approaches to solve structural topology optimization problems
with many load cases. Two applications are presented, robust optimization
and the problem of dynamic loads using the equivalent static loading method.
Thus, situations involving more complex loads can be studied through efficient
topology optimization algorithms. For both cases, comparisons are established
between the results obtained through the methodology developed in this work
and the ones from the literature.

[en] One of the main challenges in the financial market is to simulate prices keeping the correlation structure among numerous assets. Principal Component Analysis emerges as solution to the latter problem. Also, given the uncertainty present in commodities markets, an investor wants to protect his/her assets from potential losses, so as an alternative, the optimization of various risk measures, such as Value-at-risk, Conditional Value-at-risk and Omega Ratio, are important financial tools. Additionally, the backtest is widely used to validate and analyze the performance of the proposed methodology. In this dissertation, we will work with a portfolio of oil commodities. We will put together different techniques and propose a new methodology that consists in the (potentially) decrease the dimension of the proposed portfolio. The following step is to simulate the prices of the assets in the portfolio and then optimize the allocation of the portfolio of oil commodities. Finally, we will use backtest techniques in order to validate our method.

[en] OPTIMIZATION THE CIRCUITING REFRIGERATION OF THE HEAT EXCHANGERS IN VAPOR COMPRESSION REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS / [pt] OTIMIZAÇÃO DOS CIRCUITOS DE REFRIGERANTE NOS TROCADORES DE CALOR DE SISTEMAS DE REFRIGERAÇÃO POR COMPRESSÃO DE VAPORLUIS CARLOS CASTILLO MARTINEZ 16 October 2017 (has links)
condensador. / [en] Refrigerant circuiting in condensers and evaporators has a significant effect in the performance of refrigeration systems. The optimized project of the refrigerant circuits in refrigeration systems with plate-fin heat exchangers is not trivial, due to the complexity of their representation as well as the high number of possible combinations, even when methodologies of intelligent optimization are used. The present work proposes a new methodology for the simultaneous optimization of refrigerant circuiting in air-air refrigeration systems with plate-fin heat exchangers. This new methodology, here defined as GAFIS (Genetic algorithms applied in filtered spaces), has proven to be more efficient than traditional methods. The GAFIS method was applied, in conjunction with a full refrigeration system simulator, Genesym, for the optimization of high performance commercial air-conditioning units. Typical cases were studied and a
coefficient of performance improvement of up to 15.3 percent has been observed. In other studies, there were cases where the manufacturer s predicted cost was reduced in 3,85 percent (of total cost of the unit), while a similar thermal performance (capacity and COP) was maintained. Optimization tests, considering different diameters of tube, for the construction of heat exchangers, as well as systems with non-uniform air velocity distribution, were also performed with the GAFIS method. Microchannel condensers were also studied, given the current interest of industry on this kind of heat exchanger. The optimization of the refrigerant circuiting, in this case, would not be a major problem, due to the low computational cost of its simulation. However, simulation models appropriate for these types of heat exchangers have only been recently in use, and, to date, have not been adequately explored. In the present work, the influence on
condenser performance of parameters that define the refrigerant circuiting has been investigated. For this purpose, a simulation model, based on local analysis, was developed. It was validated against experimental data, available from automotive microchannel condenser tests, with hydraulic diameters (refrigerantside)
of 0.9 and 1.0mm for refrigerants R-134a, Fluid-H and R-1234yf. A direct relation was found between the geometric parameters that define the condenser refrigerant circuiting and its thermal performance. This fact can be appropriately used as guidance for expeditious design practices of the optimal refrigerant
circuit of the condenser.

[en] HEDGING RENEWABLE ENERGY SALES IN THE BRAZILIAN CONTRACT MARKET VIA ROBUST OPTIMIZATION / [pt] MODELO DE CONTRATAÇÃO PARA FONTES RENOVÁVEIS COM RUBUSTEZ AO PREÇO DE CURTO-PRAZOBRUNO FANZERES DOS SANTOS 26 March 2018 (has links)
[en] Energy spot price is characterized by its high volatility and difficult prediction, representing a major risk for energy companies, especially those that rely on renewable generation. The typical approach employed by such companies to address their mid- and long-term optimal contracting strategy is to simulate a large set of paths for the uncertainty factors to characterize the probability distribution of the future income and, then, optimize the company s portfolio to maximize its certainty equivalent. In practice, however, spot price modeling and simulation is a big challenge for agents due to its high dependence on parameters that are difficult to predict, e.g., GDP growth, demand variation, entrance of new market players, regulatory changes, just to name a few. In this sense, in this dissertation, we make use of robust optimization to treat the uncertainty on spot price distribution while renewable production remains accounted for by exogenously simulated scenarios, as is customary in stochastic programming. We show that this approach can be interpreted from two different point of views: stress test and aversion to ambiguity. Regarding the latter, we provide a link between robust optimization and ambiguity theory, which was an open gap in decision theory. Moreover, we include into the optimal portfolio model, the possibility to consider an energy call option contract to hedge the agent s portfolio against price spikes. A case study with realistic data from the Brazilian system is shown to illustrate the applicability of the proposed methodology.

[en] STOCHASTIC ANALYSIS OF ECONOMIC VIABILITY OF PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS INSTALLATION IN LARGE CONSUMERS / [pt] ANÁLISE ESTOCÁSTICA DA VIABILIDADE ECONÔMICA DA INSTALAÇÃO DE PAINÉIS FOTOVOLTAICOS EM GRANDES CONSUMIDORESANDRES MAURICIO CESPEDES GARAVITO 25 May 2018 (has links)
[en] Distributed Generation (GD) is growing up in the last years in Brazil, particularly photovoltaic generation, allowing small and large consumers play an important role in the electric system, investing in a own generation system. For the regulated consumers, besides the reduction of energy cost, they also may have a reduction in demand cost, which is computed from peak demand contract with the supply utility company. Therefore, taking into account the possibility of photovoltaic panels installation, the challenge of consumers is estimate with highest accuracy as possible its energy, the energy generation by the panels, and the future peak demand in order to estimate the optimum quantity of panels, as well as the peak demand contract with the utility. A way to solve this problem is to simulate future scenarios of energy consumption, peak demand, and correlate them with future scenarios of energy generation. After that, from a mixed integer linear stochastic optimization model, the optimum quantity of panels and peak demand to be contracted are computed. In the first part, the Box and Jenkins modelling is used to estimate the parameters of the energy consumption and peak demand by statistical model, combined with the energy generation of the panels. In the second part, a stochastic optimization model is applied using a convex combination of the Expected Value (VE) and Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR), which were used as risk metrics to rate the optimum number of panels and the best peak demand contract. To illustrate the proposed approach, a real case study of a large consumer presented considering the Green Tariff group A4 in the Regulated Environment. The results show that to use photovoltaic panels can reduce the annual cost by up to 20 per cent, compared with the billed real value.

geométricas e mecânicas destas ligações, substituindo as tradicionais
[en] The beam-column connections play a key role in determining the actual
behavior of steel and composite structures. Therefore it is necessary a very careful
assessment of the real geometrical and mechanical characteristics of these joints,
replacing the traditional idealized considerations, rigid and flexible for modeling
semi-rigid steel or composite. With the intention of continuing the study of semirigid
connections in steel and develop a study on the semi-rigid composite
connections, was initially performed a revision of startled presenting the
parameters to be developed in this research. We have implemented a
computational system analysis and design capable of evaluating the structural
behavior of these joints from the information of the geometric properties of beamcolumn
connection with end plate executed in steel and composited, producing a
database for a structural design safer. An experimental project was designed to
evaluate the path transmittance of efforts, through experimental models of
laboratory tests in the form of modified pull-out, adapting this test for regions of
negative moment, where the concrete slab is cracked, obtaining a test that can
produce results that contribute for the development of research of semi-rigid

[pt] OTIMIZAÇÃO TOPOLÓGICA PARA PROBLEMAS DE ESCOAMENTO DE FLUIDOS NÃO NEWTONIANOS USANDO O MÉTODO DOS ELEMENTOS VIRTUAIS / [en] TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION FOR NON-NEWTONIAN FLUID-FLOW PROBLEMS USING THE VIRTUAL ELEMENT METHODMIGUEL ANGEL AMPUERO SUAREZ 28 August 2020 (has links)
[en] This work presents selected applications of topology optimization for non-Newtonian fluid flow problems using the virtual element method (VEM) in arbitrary two-dimensional domains. The objective is to design an optimal layout into a fluid flow domain to minimize dissipative energy governed by the Navier-Stokes-Brinkman and non-Newtonian Carreau-Yasuda model equations. The porosity approach proposed by (Borrvall and Petersson, 2003) [1] is used in the topology optimization formulation. To solve this problem numerically, the recently proposed VEM method is used. The key feature that distinguishes VEM from the standard finite element method (FEM) is that the interpolation functions in the interior of the elements do not need to be computed explicitly. This is because the integration is on lower-order polynomial and basis functions, and there is great flexibility by using a non-convex element. Therefore, the computation of the main element matrices and vectors are reduced to the evaluation of geometric quantities on the boundary of the elements. Finally, several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the efficiency of the VEM compared to FEM and the applicability of the topology optimization to fluid flow problems.
