[pt] DO IMAGINÁRIO AO REAL: A CRIAÇÃO E A PRODUÇÃO DO LIVRO INFANTIL NA VISÃO DO ILUSTRADOR / [en] FROM IMAGINARY TO REALITY: THE ILLUSTRATOR S VIEW ABOUT CREATION AND PRODUCTION OF CHILDREN S BOOK25 October 2021 (has links)
[en] This work s goal is to study illustration as a fundamental element in the children s book meaning making. A brief historical account of book illustration from Middle Ages is presented. Contemporary illustrators are interviewed to describe their creative process. This process is brought foreword in order to show that image creating is not just based on intuition vis-à-vis the verbal text. As the result of a project of graphic
design, such process is conceived and based on the author s experience, as well as the elements found in references around the written text. The present work, therefore, examines the verbal and visual relationship, and its importance in the creation of children s literary works concerning narrative illustration. The connection between these two codes, is then, discussed bearing in mind different perspectives presented by authors and illustrators.

[en] LIFE AND WORK OF OBJECTS: AN INVESTIGATION ON THE POWERS OF MATERIALITY BASED ON THE SERMON ON THE HOLY SPIRIT, BY ANTONIO VIEIRA / [pt] VIDA E OBRA DOS OBJETOS: UMA INVESTIGAÇÃO SOBRE AS POTÊNCIAS DA MATERIALIDADE A PARTIR DO SERMÃO DO ESPÍRITO SANTO, DE ANTÔNIO VIEIRAFELIPE VILMAR DA MOTTA VEIGA 01 June 2021 (has links)
[en] Life and work of objects: an investigation on the powers of materiality based on the Sermon on the Holy Spirit, by Antonio Vieira rely fundamentally on the polysemy of the terms life and object to examine some interactional situations in which objects (modernly understood as inanimate) are invested with life, that is, with qualities and behaviours attributed in general to subjects (beings which move, act and have their own point of view). The dissertation proposes to apprehend the life of objects phenomenon through three paths which are intertwined. The first one consists in observing the manifestations of this kind of life in the most immediately present circumstance, contemporary to the researcher, in a daily and domestic register inside of which the very act of writing the dissertation happens. The second and main path leads to the 16th and 17th centuries: with the privileged intercession of the Sermon on the Holy Spirit, by priest Antonio Vieira, and also by taking as a background the cultural tensions involved in the colonization of the Americas and in the catechization of native populations, a punctual comparison is made between Amerindian conceptions and Euro-Christian conceptions of the life of objects. The third path is a speculation about the possibility of speaking of a life of the text, and for this purpose some assumptions contained in recent theories about the agency of material objects are applied to the strict domain of the words. By joining this efforts to the critical-reflexive efforts of other researchers, the dissertation expects to show a rich diversity of subjective features embodied by objects, a diversity that reflects different ways of living.

[en] PETER EISENMAN AND OTHER ARCHITECTURE: OF THE ARABESQUE AND GROTESQUE / [pt] PETER EISENMAN E UMA OUTRA ARQUITETURA: DO ARABESCO E DO GROTESCOELIZABETH DE ARAUJO GARCIA 31 October 2019 (has links)
[en] Peter Eisenman has untimely warned that the modernist doctrine of the relation between form and function has only lasted a speech unchanged 500 years ago. To repair this misconception it is necessary to break with function as the founding principle and to regard representation as a false authority that suggests a
kind of true and exact relationship between the architectural object and what it means. In doing so, Eisenman investigates the idea of presence and the representation of presence, as repressors of other interpretations and new meanings, and decrees the indispensability of the complete recognition of metaphysics: the idea of presence and the presence of absence. To achieve this displacement Eisenman elaborates an other architecture produced as a text rather than an architecture as an image, which intends to break with metaphysical dialectics and its opposition peers through an exploration of the between. The text never allows a single meaning. To arouse such ambivalence Eisenman will use two terms: The Arabesque and the Grotesque, evoking with these two words a whole system of concepts and
methodologies that synchronously conducted his work and his thinking. This dissertation intends to demonstrate the extraordinary potential that allowed the arabesque and the grotesque to become text, breaking of oppositions and hierarchy of values, emptying of signs, blurring of boundaries and conventional classificatory systems and, above all, exploring the poetic. Validating, therefore, that they are the very displacement of architectural metaphysics.

[en] CLARITY AND OBSCURITY IN LEGAL TEXTS - A CASE STUDY: A COMPARATIVE LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF THE BRAZILIAN CIVIL CODE OF 2002 AND OF THAT OF 1916 / [pt] CLAREZA E OBSCURIDADE NO TEXTO LEGAL - UM ESTUDO DE CASO: ANÁLISE LINGÜÍSTICO-COMPARATIVA DO CÓDIGO CIVIL BRASILEIRO DE 2002 E DO DE 1916ERIKA MAYRINK VULLU 12 August 2005 (has links)
[pt] O trabalho enfoca a relação entre linguagem e Direito,
apontando o
distanciamento entre a linguagem legal e a linguagem do
homem médio. Tendo
Civil
brasileiro de 1916
e de 2002, relativamente ao Direito das Sucessões,
analisam-se questões
pertinentes à estruturação sintática, à utilização
vocabular e à presença de
ambigüidades estruturais. Busca-se, assim, identificar
os
principais fatores
responsáveis pelas dificuldades enfrentadas pelo homem
médio ao interpretar
textos legais. O estudo, valendo-se de uma pesquisa
realizada junto a
informantes, constata que houve um certo progresso
quanto
2002. A pesquisa volta-se,
também, para a identificação de marcas lingüísticas
evidenciadoras de
mudanças axiológicas ocorridas na sociedade brasileira
desde a promulgação do
Código de 1916, e refletidas no de 2002. A dissertação
meio propiciador
desse conhecimento. / [en] This work focuses on the relation between language and
Law, pointing out
the distance that prevails between legal language and the
language of the
common man. By comparing segments of the Brazilian Civil
Code of 1916 with
those of the Civil Code of 2002, in regard to Successions
Law, issues concerning
syntactic structure, use of vocabulary and the presence of
structural ambiguities
are analyzed. The identification of the main factors
responsible for the difficulties
faced by the common man in interpreting legal texts is
also pursued. By means of
an empirical research undertaken with informants, the
study establishes that
there has been a certain degree of progress, language-
wise, in what concerns
the Civil Code of 2002, as compared to that of 1916.
However, it points out that
the degree of progress that has been achieved is far less
considerable than that
which would be desirable, since, in virtually all cases,
the alternative linguistic
formulations proposed by the author were preferred over
their parallel
formulations found in the Civil Code of 2002. The research
also provides the
identification of linguistic traces which signal
axiological changes that have taken
place in Brazilian society since the promulgation of the
1916 Code, and which are
reflected in that of 2002.The thesis discusses the
relation between language and
power and calls attention to the perversity of the
coexistence of the necessary
juridical fiction that no one can be excused of abiding to
the law by claiming to
ignore it with the perpetuation of an obscure juridical
language and the
unrestrained proliferation of laws. It thus recommends the
adoption of a juridical
language that instead of deterring the common man from
finding out what his
rights and his responsibilities in face of society are,
transforms itself in a means
of favoring such knowledge.
