Kontinuitet i hemsjukvård ur ett multiperspektiv / Continuity in home care from a multiperpective

Kullberg, Olof, Eriksson, Karl January 2021 (has links)
Background: Conducting home care with high continuity has in previous studies been shown to have positive effects on care. The law states that the patient's need for continuity must be met, despite this, the media still testify to shortcomings linked to continuity. Aim: To shed light on continuity from multiple perspectives from a patient case in home care. Method: Mixed method with quantitative and qualitative parts. The quantitative part calculates the continuity based on two formulas and is reported with descriptive statistics. The qualitative part contains two content analyzes, one of which is on the notebook from the patient's home and one is on an interview with a relative. Results: The results showed a varying value of HHI and CoC index, The content analysis resulted in several subcategories and main categories. The synthesis combines quantitative and qualitative to bring out how HHI and CoC relate to the experiences from patient and relative. Discussion: There are strengths and weaknesses with each formula. The notebook provides an insight into the communication between care and nursing staff. The interview of a relative highlights the importance of continuity from a relative perspective. Conclusion: The study shows how continuity can be elucidated with both quantitative and qualitative implications. Healthcare can benefit from developing ways to better illuminate continuity from both quantitative and qualitative data.

C2C relationships and the co-creation of value : A mixed method study of the streaming industry

Schwartz, Patrik, Tidelius, Axel January 2021 (has links)
Music- and video consumption has rapidly changed during the last years and a growing number of consumers use different streaming services which allow for greater interaction with other users than was previously possible. Meanwhile a growing focus within the scientific world has been placed on consumers’ ability to co-create value with other users. A mixed method study was consequently conducted to investigate how streaming companies help consumers co-create value by facilitating customer-to-customer relationships. The qualitative approach showed that there was a clear ambition by streaming companies to utilize C2C relationships to market their products and help co-create value. The quantitative approach showed, however, that their efforts were not always effective and that focusing on other aspects of streaming services may provide more value for the consumer.

Decision-Making and Destination Selection Among Syrian Refugees - A mixed-method research of asylum destination choice; The Case of Sweden

Alhousari, Ehab January 2020 (has links)
This research explored why self-selected refugees made a decision to choose Sweden as a final destination after introducing the restrictive asylum laws (2016:752) by the Swedish Government in 2016. With a pragmatist approach, data were gathered through a mixed-methods research design to investigate the research questions at hand by analyzing quantitative surveys, further supported by and expanded upon by the qualitative follow-up interviews with five respondents. The findings showed that Sweden was selected as a destination of choice due to the country’s perception in terms of freedom, human rights, “welcomeness” and quality of life. The results from this research demonstrated that refugees’ social networks played a decisive factor in the asylum destination decision. Thus, it showed the importance of migrants networks in forming the image of the intended country, hence, influencing the destination choice. On the other hand, the restriction of migration laws played only a minor role in the decision-making, and economic opportunities played a marginal role in influencing the choice of destination. Accordingly, from the results of this research one can conclude that the choice of destination is primarily directed by irrational reasons.

Integration of Technology into a Nursing Curriculum Using a Mixed Method Approach

Ramnarine-Singh, Susan 01 January 2014 (has links)
In 2011, the Institute of Medicine and 2010 Affordable Care Act addressed the need to use technology in nursing programs. The purpose of this study was to understand faculty perceptions of technology use and integration into the nursing curriculum at a college located in Texas. Lewin’s change theory acted as the theoretical framework to explore organizational dynamics involved in effective strategies. The guiding research questions explored faculty perceptions of technology use, types of technology used, and correlation to teaching experience using a convergent mixed-method approach. Thirty faculty members completed the Teacher’s Intention to Use Technology survey and 15 faculty members participated in interview sessions. Faculty with fewer years of experience were compared to faculty with more years of experience and differed on ease of use (p = .010), embracing technology (p = .011), enjoying technology (p = .026), available assistance (p = .020), classroom preparation (p = .043), and ease of learning (p = .047). The qualitative data analysis used an open coding scheme and resulted in themes indicating the need for training, especially for faculty with less experience. Record review indicated scattered use of technological tools. A professional development workshop promoting teaching strategies using technology to help achieve learning outcomes, an online orientation to available technology, and a hands-on interactive workshop was created. Implications for positive social change include improving faculty members’ knowledge and application of technology in order to positively affect and enhance teaching/learning strategies, student learning environment, and ultimately the lives of patients they serve.

The Effects of Interactive Computer Simulation and Animation on Student Learning of Rigid Body Dynamics: A Mixed Method Study

Ha, Oai 01 August 2015 (has links)
Engineering Dynamics (ED) courses are known as challenging and demanding for undergraduate students majored in many engineering fields, such as mechanical and aerospace engineering and civil and environmental engineering. The course is built upon the foundation and framework of mathematics and physics and requires students to have strong abstract thinking and reasoning skills. Rigid body dynamics (RBD), the second part of ED, investigates kinematics and kinetics of rigid bodies and is considered as a difficult subject by many undergraduate students because the course requires them to visualize abstract objects in motions. Although there have been many studies reporting the uses of interactive computer simulation and animation (CSA) modules as visual learning tools in RBD instruction, the effectiveness of the CSA modules on student learning of RBD were not rigorously and adequately investigated. This study employs a mixed method (QUAN – qual) approach and nonequivalent comparison group design to investigate the effectiveness of CSA modules on student learning of RBD, and to explore students’ attitudes towards and experiences with these modules. One hundred and sixty-one students in two recent semesters participated in this study: 74 in one semester participated in the comparison group and 87 in another semester participated in the intervention group. While the intervention group students studied RBD with CSA modules along with traditional lectures, the comparison group students studied RBD with traditional lectures only. Students in both groups were assessed with pretests and posttests using 10 bonus homework assignments developed to address core knowledge areas of RBD. The study uses a set of nonparametric statistical tools to analyze the pretest and posttest scores, mean differences, and magnitudes of the differences in learning gains between the two groups. Research findings from this study reveal that the intervention group students showed a significant increase in learning gains of overall knowledge, conceptual understanding, and procedural skills with Cliff’s effect sizes of 0.49, 0.41, and 0.47, respectively. CSA modules increased the intervention group students’ confidence, but they did not increase students’ motivation of learning RBD. This study supports the use of CSA modules as an instructional intervention to improve students’ conceptual understanding and procedural skills in learning engineering dynamics.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE OR NON-STARTER: COACHABILITY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL COACHES

James-Boone, Tangi, 0009-0002-9527-2684 January 2023 (has links)
Professional coaching has extended from the C-Suite's upper echelons to the mainstream and emerged as a viable customizable human capital management initiative democratizing professional coaching (Colletta, 2020; Joo, 2005; Kampa-Kokesch & Anderson, 2001). Experienced professional coaches often refer to "coachability," which is a component of a successful coaching engagement. However, the term needs to be researched and expanded upon in the current professional coaching literature. Current research on coachability follows within sports, sales performance, entrepreneurship, and workplace/employee.This mixed-method (survey and semi-structured interviews) exploratory study identified that professional development coachability exists and possesses identified specific associated attributes. This understanding was essential in establishing a professional development coachability construct, definition, and profile. Professional development coachability (PDC) is a complex system or construct that intersects in personal traits, coach and coachee dynamics, and social, environmental, and psychological components. PDC has been defined as an amalgamation of external and internal factors that align at a specific moment under specific circumstances. It is complex, malleable, and impacted by the circumstances and conditions in and around the coaching engagement. Study 1 (survey, n=209) identified the internal/intrinsic behavioral factors that influenced professional development coachability through the eyes of experienced professional coaches. This study resulted in a five-item coachability profile established by quantitative [(N of Items=5) Cronbach's Alpha .75, Cronbach's Alpha Based on Standardized Items of 0.76 and a valid n=40] and supported qualitatively. Study 2 (semi-structured interviews/mini survey, n=44) was conducted with experienced professional coaches, a subset of the survey participants, almost one year after the initial Study 1. Based on the results of the five-item survey in Study 2, the five-attributes profile from Study 1 was supported quantitatively by Study 2 [(N of Items=5) Cronbach's Alpha .70, Cronbach's Alpha Based on Standardized Items of .70 and a valid n=44]. The profile presents critical attributes or factors that a client/coachee intrinsically brings (perception of coachability) to support the coaching process. Subsequently, the five attributes/factors profile and identified external factors inductively derived from Study 2 set the foundation for an initial definition and theoretical framework for professional development coachability. Keywords: coachability, executive coaching, professional coaches, leadership development, definition, personal and professional development, internal and external factors, theoretical framework, exploratory mixed-method / Business Administration/Human Resource Management

Faculty members' and graduate students' perceptions of multicultural education in the College of Education

Okojie-Boulder, Tinukwa C 07 August 2010 (has links)
The study examined faculty members’ and graduate students’ perceptions of multicultural education and to ascertain which demographic factors had the most influence on participants’ perceptions. This study also examined whether there were any significant differences between faculty members’ and graduate students’ perceptions of the concept. Validity of the quantitative instruments was determined by a panel of experts. Internal consistency and reliability was calculated using factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha and test/retest reliability. A mixed method research design was used in this study which included a combination of quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The surveys were completed by 313 graduate students and 48 faculty members, while 10 faculty members and 13 graduate students participated in semi-structured interviews. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were conducted to analyze the quantitative data and the qualitative data collected were transcribed, coded and analyzed. The findings showed that faculty members and graduate students exhibited a positive perception of multicultural education and that there were some significant differences between faculty members’ and graduate students’ perceptions of the concept. The results also showed that no demographic variables had an impact on faculty members’ perceptions while race and department had an impact on graduate students’ perceptions. The findings also revealed that faculty members believed that faculty bore the most responsibility for integrating multicultural education in the classroom. The study showed that a combination of instructional strategies was used to infuse multicultural education in their courses and no formal evaluations were used to assess whether graduate students were receptive to the multicultural content being taught. Faculty indicated that they received little support from their department heads and college administrators to apply multicultural initiatives. Moreover, a number of factors motivated faculty members’ efforts to teach about multicultural education and these included traveling to foreign countries, learning about multiculturalism during their graduate studies and having an interest in the topic. Lastly, recommendations for further research and recommendations for the College of Education were presented in this study.

Framing Crisis

Andersson, Emma January 2023 (has links)
Many questions about the relationships between debate, policy, and substantive representation are still unanswered. Two such examples are, the role of gender, but also - how crises affect representation. This study addresses this gap by examining who (related to gender) speaks about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and in what way, during an especially critical time (the COVID-19 pandemic). Women’s SRH issues have often gone unrecognized during crises because it is not a direct effect of a virus, but an indirect consequence of structural inequalities. It is therefore interesting to analyze men and women MPs’ legislative behavior and policy priorities during COVID-19. For this study, a dataset is created where individual-level MP speech data serve as the indicator for substantive representation. The methodological contribution made in this paper, using a mixed-method approach, highlights some of the problems associated with studying substantive representation using only quantitative methods. While the quantitative content analysis finds support for the fact that women MPs speak more about SRH than men, the frame analysis highlights that mentioning keywords does not necessarily entail substantive representation. Women MPs generelly frame SRH issues as a structural problem of inequality, while male MPs frame it as an urgent problem caused by the pandemic, or in some cases, as not a problem at all. Studying the case of Uganda is especially interesting because it can provide additional knowledge about representation in an African parliament, and in a semi-authoritarian country.

EXPLORING THE ROLE OF IDIOSYNCRATIC SERVICE EXPERIENCE: EVIDENCE FROM BOUTIQUE HOTELS

Yongwook Ju (16642221) 25 July 2023 (has links)
<p>This study explored the role of idiosyncratic service experience by redefining the wow experience in the context of boutique hotels. Despite the expansion of the boutique hotel segment, which seeks to provide a unique and singular experience, in the lodging industry and the growing popularity of pursuing novel experiences among Millennial consumers, the role of idiosyncratic experience in consumer behavior has not been explored. This left the potential antecedents and consequents of idiosyncratic hotel stay experience—and its role in consumer’s decision-making process—unknown. In this study, a consumer’s perception of a hotel stay experience, which is unusual in an interesting and surprising way, is coined as the perceived quirky experience (PQE). Utilizing the Mehrabian-Russel model, the relationship among boutique hotel service quality aspects, motives and barriers, PQE, and behavior intentions were examined. The consumer decision-making process is expected to be influenced by the optimal stimulation level (OSL); thus, the group differences between stimulation avoiders and seekers were also explored. </p> <p>Methodologically, the current study also seeks to provide a novel approach to amalgamate qualitative and quantitative data. By integrating qualitative analysis of 175,407 TripAdvisor reviews and quantitative analysis of field data (n = 498), topic modeling using an unsupervised machine learning process was performed. Identified keywords were used for aspect-based sentiment analysis and to construct measurement items for the quantitative study stage. Statistical tests were performed using logistic regression and path analysis—and multi-group analysis. The results of this study suggested that boutique hotel-specific service quality aspects have a stronger effect on PQE, and this internal state leads to strong behavioral intentions regardless of temporal differences. The consumer’s stimulation-seeking tendency influenced multiple paths in the consumer’s decision-making process. </p> <p>This study is the first to explore the role of idiosyncratic service experience in the boutique hotel setting and makes theoretical contributions to understanding consumer behaviors involving the perception of uncommon and interesting experiences. The findings of this study provide practical contributions to boutique hotel developers regarding the relative importance of service quality aspects to create a unique and singular stay experience and also provide hotel and brand managers with insightful marketing implications.</p>

Undressing the Swedish Fashion Renting Market : A mixed method study about understanding a young market

Bjelkenäs, Elsa, Rognsvåg, Amanda January 2022 (has links)
There is little research covering the Swedish fashion renting market (SFRM), regarding which companies operate on the market, what they communicate or how the market is connected to the environmental perspective. The purpose of this study is to outline the SFRM, as well as to analyse brand communication through Instagram and how the media present the SFRM. The study is based on a mixed method, consisting of company information, Instagram posts and articles from Swedish sources. Furthermore, the methods used to analyse the data are Qualitative Content Analysis and Critical Discourse Analysis. Our results show that SFRM consists of five companies, mostly small enterprises located in the Stockholm area. The companies main messages on Instagram is overall community building and inspiration. We found three themes that create the identity within SFRM, namely sustainability, consumption and entrepreneurship. A combined result from the analysis of articles, Instagram and business information shows that there is a big difference in how the companies front themselves. Most companies on SFRM are trend-driven, as they more or less distribute the same clothes that can be found in stores, as they are trend-driven and follow the trends on what the customer wants. The division between trend-driven and not trend-driven companies could be the answer to why the sustainability perspective in SFRM is not so well addressed by all companies, as their goal is similar to the traditional fashion market: to provide consumers with fashion.
