Improvements to longitudinal clean development mechanism sampling designs for lighting retrofit projects

An improved model for reducing the cost of long-term monitoring in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) lighting retrofit projects is proposed. Cost-effective longitudinal sampling designs use the minimum number of meters required to report yearly savings at the 90% confidence and 10% relative precision level for duration of the project (up to 10 years) as stipulated by the CDM. Improvements to the existing model include a new non-linear Compact Fluorescent Lamp population decay model based on the results of the Polish Efficient Lighting Project, and a cumulative sampling function modified to weight samples exponentially by recency. An economic model altering the cost function to a nett present value calculation is also incorporated. The search space for such sampling models are investigated and found to be discontinuous and stepped, requiring a heuristic for optimisation; in this case the Genetic Algorithm was used. Assuming an exponential smoothing rate of 0.25, an inflation rate of 6.44%, and an interest rate of 10%, results show that sampling should be more evenly distributed over the study duration than is currently considered optimal, and that the proposed improvements in model accuracy increase expected project costs in nett present value terms by approximately 20%. Detta produktutvecklingsprojekt är utfört av Fredric Ericsson och Hampus Hammarbäck som examensarbete i Maskinteknik på Linnéuniversitetet. Projektet utfördes i samarbete med uppdragsgivarna Alutrade och Masterlite. Det följer hur en fasadlampa som ska belysa skyltar konstrueras och fokuserar på att systematisera konstruktionsprocessen. Bakgrunden till projektet ligger i brister hos den befintliga armaturen. Målet är att konstruera en armatur som är mer konkurrenskraftig än den befintliga. För att uppnå målet studerades problemet och modern produktutvecklingsteori tillämpas. Produktionsmetoderna är begränsade till huvudsakligen strängpressning av aluminium och delvis stansning av uppdragsgivaren, vilket låser produkten till att huvudsakligen bestå av aluminiumprofiler. Det resulterar i en kostnadseffektiv konstruktion av en armatur till en fasadlampa med en väldokumenterad och systematiserad konstruktionsprocess. / This product development project is made by Fredric Ericsson and Hampus Hammarbäck as a thesis project in Mechanical engineering with focus on product development at Linnaeus University. The project was in collaboration between the students and the outsourcing companies Alutrade and Masterlite. It follows the process of designing a flood light fixture for illuminating signs and focuses on systematization of the design process. The reason to the project is flaws in the outdated current fixture. The aim of the project is to design a fixture that is more competitive in the lightning market. This was done by studying the problem and applying product development theory. The production methods is limited to mainly aluminium extrusion and metal sheet punching by the outsourcer which therefore limits the design options to consist mainly by aluminium profiles. It results in a cost effective solution of a flood light fixture with a well documented and systemized design process.

Untersuchungen zum Einfluss des „Flash Lamp Annealing“ auf Siliziumschichten und gepresste Bismutoxidpulver

In dieser Arbeit wird die Beschichtung von Substraten mit Hilfe einer Ultraschallsprühanlage beschrieben. Es wurden Dispersionen aus Siliziumnanopartikeln und Organosiliziumpräkursoren genutzt, um Beschichtungen mit verschiedenen Dicken im Bereich von einigen hundert Nanometern bis zu mehreren Mikrometern auf verschiedenen metallischen Substraten zu erzeugen. Anschließend wurden diese der Blitzlampentemperung (FLA) unterzogen. Bei dünnen Beschichtungen mit Dicken von ca. 19 µm wurden nach der Blitzlampentemperung Filme auf dem Substrat erzeugt. Es wurden unterschiedliche Objektgrößen nach der Blitzlampentemperung in Abhängigkeit von dem Umgebungsdruck und der Pulslänge beobachtet. Bei dickeren Beschichtungen mit Dicken von ca. 38 µm bzw. 57 µm wurden selbstablösende Folien aus Silizium bei moderaten Pulsenergien von 4 J/cm² und durch das Anlegen von 5∙10-3 mbar Unterdruck während der Blitzlampentemperung hergestellt. Durch die Verwendung von Pulslängen mit 17,5 ms und Energien von bis zu 60 J/cm² wurden aus den ca. 38 µm dicken Beschichtungen nach der Blitzlampentemperung durch Übertragung auf ein Molybdänsubstrat ultradünne Siliziumschichten mit 280 nm Schichtdicke erzeugt. Mit Hilfe von Siliziumpresslingen wurde die maximale Eindringtiefe der Energie bei der Blitzlampentemperung ermittelt. Diese wurden bei verschiedenen Pulslängen und Energien mit der Blitzlampe getempert. Durch das Brechungsvermögen der Presslinge wurde an diesen sowohl die Oberfläche als auch durch Querschnittsaufnahmen die Sinterung bzw. das Schmelzen in der Tiefe nach der Blitzlampentemperung untersucht. Der Einfluss der Blitzlampentemperung auf die Polymorphie und die Kristallinität von Bis-mut(III)oxiden wurde untersucht. Die Charakterisierung der Siliziumfolien, Siliziumschichten und Siliziumpresslinge als auch der Bismut(III)oxide erfolgte unter anderem mittels Röntgenpulverdiffraktometrie, Rasterelektronenmikroskopie sowie Röntgenphotoelektronenspektroskopie.

The master’s thesis is devoted to exploiting of gas-discharge lamps and their dependence on frequency of the supply current. The first part describes the theory of discharge, its types and properties, terms of its origin, and ways of its exploitation. The second part concerns electrical ballast systems of gas discharge light sources, inductive (reactive) and electronic ballasts, principles of their functioning, advantages and disadvantages, and the comparison of their properties. The following chapters deal with low-pressure and high-pressure gas-discharged lamps, compare their properties and describe exploitation of fluorescent lamps. Before conducting the experiment we have described the influence of frequency of the supply current on fluorescent tube lamps. Preparations for laboratory measuring have been also implemented. During the experiment the two types of lamps have been analyzed, the results of the research are summed up in the conclusion.

This Master’s Thesis on Simulation of LED retrofits under operational conditions is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part in the introductory section deals with the concepts of lighting technology and presents some electric light sources, such as classic bulbs, halogen bulbs, linear and compact fluorescent lamps. It also describes the principle of electroluminescent light sources (LED), which discusses principles of yielding a white light, the main advantages of LED etc. The reader is familiar with the issue of compensation the linear fluorescent lamps tubular LED source and with the work environment programme ReluxPro that is used for design of the lighting system. Practical part of the thesis is divided into two chapters. In the first chapter, measured linear fluorescent lamps and LED modules for the light-technical parameters, luminous intensity, radiation spectrum and settling time of light sources are evaluated and compared. The second chapter is solved by using ReluxPro, which explores the impact on the lighting and the brightness of the room layout SA 5.10 while using various light sources. In conclusion, there is an economic aspect of linear fluorescent lamps and LED modules analyzed. Results from the program ReluxPro are continuously compared with real measured values.

The dissertation describes the method of inserting polar-axis system into the video recording of cataract operation at the Geminy Eye Surgery, Zlin. At the theoretical part, it discusses requirements for inserting the polar-axis system including elimination of eye rotary movements captured by slit lamp. Then the emphasis is also on the speed of data processing. The practical part of the dissertation, focuses on the creating the method for detection of centers at the slit lamp picture, as well as video sequence and a method that eliminates potential eye rotation. For designing the program solution, following methods were used: Otsu method, Hough transformation method, method of two vertical projections, and crosscorrelation method. In total, the program solution was tested and analyzed in Matlab program on anonymous data set of 22 eyes.

The diploma thesis deals with the design of testing equipment, a climate chamber in particular, to simulate external weather conditions. The chamber walls are made of socalled sandwich insulation panels. Based on the wall thermal properties, heat loss of the chamber was calculated. The conditioned air is supplied by a distribution channel at sides of the chamber. The exhaust air leaves the chamber in the ceiling zone. The ventilation unit is located on the ceiling. The design includes the integration of the UV lamp, simulating sunlight. The chamber will allow the weather effects on the microclimate inside a car to be studied. Furthermore, the sunlight simulations can be carried out in the chamber to detect polymers or varnish aging, and the fading of colours.

Highly Mismatched GaAs(1-x)N(x) and Ge(1-x)Sn(x) Alloys Prepared by Ion Implantation and Ultrashort Annealing

Doping allows us to modify semiconductor materials for desired properties such as conductivity, bandgap, and / or lattice parameter. A small portion replacement of the highly mismatched isoelectronic dopants with the host atoms of a semiconductor can result in drastic variation of its structural, optical, and / or electronic properties. Here, the term "mismatch" describes the properties of atom size, ionicity, and / or electronegativity. This thesis presents the fabrication of two kinds of highly mismatched semiconductor alloys, i.e., Ge(1-x)Sn(x) and GaAs(1-x)N(x). The structural and optical properties of the prepared Ge(1-x)Sn(x) and GaAs(1-x)N(x) have been investigated. The results suggest an efficient above-solubility doping induced by non-equilibrium methods of ion implantation and ultrashort annealing. Pulsed laser melting promotes the regrowth of monocrystalline Ge(1-x)Sn(x), whereas flash lamp annealing brings about the formation of high quality GaAs(1-x)N(x) with room temperature photoluminescence. The bandgap modification of Ge(1-x)Sn(x) and GaAs(1-x)N(x) has been verified by optical measurements of spectroscopic ellipsometry and photoluminescence, respectively. In addition, effective defect engineering in GaAs has been achieved by flash lamp annealing, by which a quasi-temperature-stable photoluminescence at 1.3 µm has been obtained. / Dotierung ermöglicht es, die Eigenschaften von Halbleitermaterialien, wie Leitfähigkeit, aber auch Bandabstand und / oder Gitterkonstanten gezielt zu verändern. Wenn ein Halbleiter mit einer kleinen Menge unterschiedliche Fremdatome dotiert wird, kann dies in einer drastischen Modifikation der strukturellen, optischen und / oder elektronischen Eigenschaften resultieren. Der Begriff "unterschiedlich" bedeutet hier die Eigenschaften von Atomgröße, Ioniztät und / oder Elektronegativität. Diese Doktorarbeit beschreibt die Herstellung von zwei Arten von stark fehlangepassten Halbleiterlegierungen: Ge(1-x)Sn(x) und GaAs(1-x)N(x). Die strukturellen und optischen Eigenschaften von Ge(1-x)Sn(x) und GaAs(1-x)N(x) wurden untersucht. Die Ergebnisse deuten auf eine effiziente Dotierung oberhalb der Löslichkeit, induziert durch die Nicht-Gleichgewichtsverfahren Ionenimplantation und Ultrakurzzeit-Ausheilung. Gepulstes Laserschmelzen ermöglicht das Nachwachsen von monokristallinem Ge(1-x)Sn(x), während die Blitzlampenausheilung in der Bildung von GaAs(1-x)N(x) hoher Qualität mit Photolumineszenz bei Raumtemperatur resultiert. Die Änderung der Bandlücke von Ge(1-x)Sn(x) und GaAs(1-x)N(x) wurde durch die optischen Methoden der spektroskopischen Ellipsometrie und Photolumineszenz verifiziert. Darüber hinaus konnte in ausgeheiltem GaAs eine quasi-temperaturstabile Photolumineszenz bei 1,3 µm beobachtet werden.
