Zvklus (1959) by Karlheinz Stockhausen and Duettino Concertante (1966) by Ingolf Dahl represent two of the most significant percussion compositions that present the percussionist as soloist. The performer of these works, either unaccompanied or accompanied by a non-percussion instrument, is featured as executant, interpreter, and improvisor. They are regarded as classics in the medium of multiple percussion because of their frequency of performance and their profound effect on notation, musical composition, and the technical expectations of the percussionist. This paper examines these compositions and their historical significance to both percussion literature and the percussionist. Each of these compositions is analzyed by examining instrumentation, compositional procedures, and performance problems. Finally, the notational procedures and role of the performer in these compositions are compared. A discussion of the development of the percussion batterie, percussion ensemble, and the important early solo multiple percussion compositions provides historical perspective for these compositions. This perspective is enhanced by consideration of biography, influences, and stylistic development of each composer.

I denna uppsats analyseras det hur genus representeras och framställs i de tre svenskproducerade filmerna Call Girl (Mikael Marcimain, 2012), Monica Z (Per Fly, 2013) och Svinalängorna (Pernilla August, 2010). Filmerna kommer från en självständig katalog som visar upp en mångfald av filmer och tv-serier som gjorts inom det senaste decenniet där samtliga präglats av ett historiskt återblickande av det svenska 1960-och 1970-talet. Den historiska perioden var en omvälvande tid för kvinnorörelsen som ledde till stora förändringar som vidare har påverkat vår samtid. Studiens övergripande syfte undersöker hur historieförmedlingen och representationen av genus framställs i filmerna. Med stöd av det teoretiska ramverket förs resonemang fram om att kvinnorepresentationen uppvisar ett individualiserat porträtt av kvinnor, som på grund av deras samhällsposition söker förebilder och stöd i deras yttre och inre genusrelationer. Intersektionalitet används som perspektiv för att påvisa hur samverkande maktordningar förekommer i representationen. I den historiska porträtteringen ges ett kritiskt granskande av kvinnornas levnadsvillkor tillsammans med budskap som menar till att stärka och stödja kvinnor. Filmerna kan ses som samtida källor då det historiska återblickandet består av föreställningar och värderingar som återfinns i vår samtid.

N.P. van Wyk Louw se epiese gedig, Raka, het as inspirasie vir verskeie kunswerke gedien, waaronder skilderye van Alexis Preller en Cecil Skotnes. Twee vooraanstaande Suid- Afrikaanse komponiste is ook geïnspireer deur Van wyk Louw se werk: Graham Newcarter se ballet Raka het in 1967 verskyn en ’n gelyknamige simfoniese toondig in die vorm van ’n klavierkonsert verskyn in 1996 uit die pen van Stefans Grové. Terwyl verskeie ander komposisies van Stefans Grové as onderwerpe van uitgebreide navorsing gebruik is, is relatief min bekend oor die aard en samestelling van hierdie toondig en die raakpunte en verskille wat tussen die musiek en die oorspronklike gedig bestaan. Hierdie studie ondersoek die wyse waarop ’n erkende literêre werk deur ’n vooraanstaande Suid-Afrikaanse digter ’n nuwe gedaante aanneem binne die omvang en beperkings van ’n musikale vorm. The purpose of this dissertation was to create a safety compliance model which would advance the state of the art of safety compliance models and provide management with a practical tool which can be used in making safety decisions in an environment where multiple objectives exist. A goal programming safety compliance model (OSHA Model) was developed to fulfill this purpose. The objective function of the OSHA Model was designed to minimize the total deviation from the established goals of the model. These model goals were expressed in terms of 1) level of compliance to OSHA safety and health regulations, 2) company accident frequency rate, 3) company accident cost per worker, and 4) a company budgetary restriction. This particular set of goals was selected to facilitate management's fulfillment of its responsibilities to OSHA, the employees, and to ownership. This study concludes that all the research objectives have been accomplished. The OSHA Model formulated not only advances the state of the art of safety compliance models, but also provides a practical tool which facilitates management's safety and health decisions. The insight into the relationships existing in a safety compliance decision system provided by the OSHA Model and its accompanying sensitivity analysis was demonstrated by the empirical application during the research. The optimal solution values showed what could be accomplished with a given objective structure and the existing safety and health functional relationships. The optimal solution values obtained during the sensitivity analysis showed how sensitive the model is to the uncertainties relating to goal structures and the specific exogenous and endogenous parameter values. This new insight available to management can provide a scientific base upon which the total system decisions can be made.

This study analyzes the impact of the political changes on labor unions in Egypt in the period from 1960 to 1967. In 1960-1961 Egypt became a socialist country with one political party, the Arab Socialist Union. As a result of that development in the political arena, a wave of socialist laws were introduced by the government, affecting not only the labor unions' traditional functions, but also the industrial relations system in general. The study came to the following conclusions. 1. The role of the labor unions in the industrial relations system and especially in formulating the socialist laws was minimized in Egypt in the 1960-1967 period. 2. From an economic point of view, the socialist laws in the 1960-1967 period had restrained economic development process by reducing savings, not supplying the economy with skilled productive workers, causing inflation, and the wage structure did not work as an incentive system to stimulate productivity. 3. The socialist laws did not achieve any of their expected objectives partly because no one except the government was involved in these laws' formulation and implementation. 4. Except for the small increase in wages, the average worker did not achieve any tangible benefits that could improve his economic and social status. 5. The existence of political control over labor unions and over the industrial relations system will continue and persist as long as labor unions do not have effective leadership and as long as there is no political opposition to the government.
