A Zoomable 3D User Interface using Uniform Grids and Scene GraphsRinne, Vidar January 2011 (has links)
Zoomable user interfaces (ZUIs) have been studied for a long time and many applications are built upon them. Most applications, however, only use two dimensions to express the content. This report presents a solution using all three dimensions where the base features are built as a framework with uniform grids and scene graphs as primary data structures. The purpose of these data structures is to improve performance while maintaining flexibility when creating and handling three-dimensional objects. A 3D-ZUI is able to represent the view of the world and its objects in a more lifelike manner. It is possible to interact with the objects much in the same way as in real world. By developing a prototype framework as well as some example applications, the usefulness of 3D-ZUIs is illustrated. Since the framework relies on abstraction and object-oriented principles it is easy to maintain and extend it as needed. The currently implemented data structures are well motivated for a large scale 3D-ZUI in terms of accelerated collision detection and picking and they also provide a flexible base when developing applications. It is possible to further improve performance of the framework, for example by supporting different types of culling and levels of detail

Etude par simulation numérique des écoulements dans le conduit d’admission d’un moteur à levée de soupape d’admission variable / The study by numerical simulation of the slows in the intake manifold of an engine with variable lift of the intake valveIorga-Simăn, Victor 06 March 2012 (has links)
The negative impact of automobiles on the environment has led to increased severity in the legislation concerning environmental protection. The problems encountered in the efforts intended to improve the efficiency of the spark ignition engine are derived from its inefficient operation under partial loads. The variable intake valve lift is capable of significant changes aiming at lower fuel consumption, especially in the frequent use area: low torque, low speed. An alternative to the experimental study of fluid flow is the approach by numerical simulation, CFD, using the software ANSYS-Fluent. The main purpose of the present doctoral thesis was to determine the fluid flow velocity during the intake, for two intake valve lift laws, when the engine is running at 815 rpm, and with an opening of the throttle plate at 21.6°. To do this, we have used two numerical simulation models: one two-dimensional, and one three-dimensional. The study by numerical simulation made it possible to clarify some important issues regarding the air flow velocity into the cylinder, and the level of turbulence.

Partial 3D-shape indexing and retrieval / Indexation partielle de modèles 3DEl Khoury, Rachid 22 March 2013 (has links)
A growing number of 3D graphic applications have an impact on today’s society. These applications are being used in several domains ranging from digital entertainment, computer aided design, to medical applications. In this context, a 3D object search engine with a good performance in time consuming and results becomes mandatory. We propose a novel approach for 3D-model retrieval based on closed curves. Then we enhance our method to handle partial 3D-model retrieval. Our method starts by the definition of an invariant mapping function. The important properties of a mapping function are its invariance to rigid and non rigid transformations, the correct description of the 3D-model, its insensitivity to noise, its robustness to topology changes, and its independance on parameters. However, current state-of-the-art methods do not respect all these properties. To respect these properties, we define our mapping function based on the diffusion and the commute-time distances. To prove the properties of this function, we compute the Reeb graph of the 3D-models. To describe the whole 3D-model, using our mapping function, we generate indexed closed curves from a source point detected automatically at the center of a 3D-model. Each curve describes a small region of the 3D-model. These curves lead to create an invariant descriptor to different transformations. To show the robustness of our method on various classes of 3D-models with different poses, we use shapes from SHREC 2012. We also compare our approach to existing methods in the state-of-the-art with a dataset from SHREC 2010. For partial 3D-model retrieval, we enhance the proposed method using the Bag-Of-Features built with all the extracted closed curves, and show the accurate performances using the same dataset

Augmented Reality som navigationshjälpmedel : Designprinciper utifrån ett användarperspektiv / Navigation with Augmented Reality : Design guidelines from a user perspectiveHansson, Sofie, Johansson, Moa January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to gain insights of which design guidelines are vital for developing anavigation solution with Augmented Reality from a usability perspective. We wanted to raise awarenessof how the technology could be used to enable both indoor and outdoor navigation.Design Science Research (DSR) was applied as the research methodology, and created prerequisites toidentify problems connected to Luleå University of Technology’s existing map. The study applied the 7steps of the design thinking process, which made it possible to identify the problems. Through surveysand qualitative interviews in combination with observations, it was possible to create an overall picture ofthe problems to understand the users needs. Based on the feedback from the user tests, the prototype couldbe developed and improved. In the second step, 4 themes were set up based on the empirical data collected, which were Navigation,Augmented Reality, General design and Feedback. These themes followed as a common threadthroughout the study and were used to structure the design guidelines and to develop the prototype. Ourstudy shows the importance of throughout the process carry out a consistent design when designing digitalservices. Through this the user can see connections and understand how the application is structured. Toestablish user participation is important at an early stage of the design process, because it contributes togaining insights into deficiency and positive aspects of the prototype, which in turn contributes to meetingthe user needs. One difficulty identified in the empirical data was problems in distinguishing differentfloors in already existing navigation solutions. In order to solve this problem we found it important tocomplement the 2D view in the solution. In the study, this was supplemented by a parallel AR view and atext showing the number of the floor in the 2D view.
