Information on a default time : Brownian bridges on a stochastic intervals and enlargement of filtrations / Information sur le temps de défaut : ponts browniens sur des intervalles stochastiques et grossissement de filtrations

Bedini, Matteo 12 October 2012 (has links)
In this PhD thesis the information process concerning a default time τ in a credit risk model is described by a Brownian bridge over the random time interval [0, τ]. Such a bridge process is characterised as to be a more adapted model than the classical one considering the indicator function I[0,τ]. After the study of related Bayes formulas, this approach of modelling information concerning the default time is related with other financial information. This is done with the help of the theory of enlargement of filtration, where the filtration generated by the information process is enlarged with a reference filtration modelling other information not directly associated with the default. A particular attention is paid to the classification of the default time with respect to the minimal filtration but also with respect to the enlarged filtration. Sufficient conditions under which τ is totally inaccessible are discussed, but also an example is given of a τ avoiding the stopping times of the reference filtration, which is totally inaccessible with respect to its own filtration and predictable with respect to the enlarged filtration. Finally, common financial contracts like defaultable bonds and credit default swaps are considered in the above described settings.

Amri, Anis 19 December 2018 (has links)
This Phd thesis is divided into two independent parts. In the first part, we provide an asymptotic analysis of some statistics on the binary search tree. In the second part, we study the coupon collector problem with a constraint. In the first part, following the model introduced by Aguech, Lasmar and Mahmoud [Probab. Engrg. Inform. Sci. 21 (2007) 133—141], the weighted depth of a node in a labelled rooted tree is the sum of all labels on the path connecting the node to the root. We analyze the following statistics : the weighted depths of nodes with given labels, the last inserted node, nodes ordered as visited by the depth first search procees, the weighted path length, the weighted Wiener index and the weighted depths of nodes with at most one child in a random binary search tree. In the second part, we study the asymptotic shape of the completion curve of the collection conditioned to T_n≤ (1+Λ), Λ>0, where T_n≃n ln⁡n is the time needed to complete accessible automata, we provide a new derivation of a formula due to Korsunov [Kor78, Kor86]

Quantum Information Theory is a research area that investigates the limits of information processing and transmission considering the laws of Quantum Mechanics. The translation of concepts from Classical Information Theory is a widely known approach to contribute to Quantum Information Theory. Thanks to that, the Quantum Zero-Error Information Theory was proposed. This theory investigates the use and the conditions for classical information exchange through noisy quantum channels without decoding errors. Despite the recent developments, it wasidentified that the knowledge about its potentialities, limitations and applications is still incipient. In the attempt to minimize this problem, this thesis presents two new concepts related to the Quantum Zero-Error Information Theory: (i) the quantum zero-error secrecy capacity; and the (ii) zero-error quantum accessible information. Regarding the first contribution, there is the establishment of the required conditions to send information through quantum channels without decoding errors and with perfect secrecy. This proposal identifies a new capacity of quantum channels, enlightens its relation with Graph Theory, and shows the situations where this capacity has single-letter characterization. Regarding the second contribution, there is the proposal of a quantum information measurement which quantifies the error-free decoding ability of a quantum source. Obtaining such measurement is a problem equivalent to the one of determining the zero-erro capacity of an equivalent classical channel and for which there is no counterpart in Classical Zero-Error Information Theory. The concepts proposed collaborate to Quantum Zero-Error Information Theory in theoretical and practical ways, since it is possible to implement both of them using current technology. Moreover, intersections with Cryptography, Graph Theory and Computer Science were identified. These concepts contribute straightforwardly to the resolution of a challenge of Quantum Information Theory which is the determination of the limits for the tasks of information processing that can be accomplished considering the use of Quantum Mechanics.

Critical assessment of predicted interactions at atomic resolution

Mendez Giraldez, Raul 21 September 2007 (has links)
Molecular Biology has allowed the characterization and manipulation of the molecules of life in the wet lab. Also the structures of those macromolecules are being continuously elucidated. During the last decades of the past century, there was an increasing interest to study how the different genes are organized into different organisms (‘genomes’) and how those genes are expressed into proteins to achieve their functions. Currently the sequences for many genes over several genomes have been determined. In parallel, the efforts to have the structure of the proteins coded by those genes go on. However it is experimentally much harder to obtain the structure of a protein, rather than just its sequence. For this reason, the number of protein structures available in databases is an order of magnitude or so lower than protein sequences. Furthermore, in order to understand how living organisms work at molecular level we need the information about the interaction of those proteins. Elucidating the structure of protein macromolecular assemblies is still more difficult. To that end, the use of computers to predict the structure of these complexes has gained interest over the last decades.
The main subject of this thesis is the evaluation of current available computational methods to predict protein – protein interactions and build an atomic model of the complex. The core of the thesis is the evaluation protocol I have developed at Service de Conformation des Macromolécules Biologiques et de Bioinformatique, Université Libre de Bruxelles, and its computer implementation. This method has been massively used to evaluate the results on blind protein – protein interaction prediction in the context of the world-wide experiment CAPRI, which have been thoroughly reviewed in several publications [1-3]. In this experiment the structure of a protein complex (‘the target’) had to be modeled starting from the coordinates of the isolated molecules, prior to the release of the structure of the complex (this is commonly referred as ‘docking’).
The assessment protocol let us compute some parameters to rank docking models according to their quality, into 3 main categories: ‘Highly Accurate’, ‘Medium Accurate’, ‘Acceptable’ and ‘Incorrect’. The efficiency of our evaluation and ranking is clearly shown, even for borderline cases between categories. The correlation of the ranking parameters is analyzed further. In the same section where the evaluation protocol is presented, the ranking participants give to their predictions is also studied, since often, good solutions are not easily recognized among the pool of computer generated decoys.
An overview of the CAPRI results made per target structure and per participant regarding the computational method they used and the difficulty of the complex. Also in CAPRI there is a new ongoing experiment about scoring previously and anonymously generated models by other participants (the ‘Scoring’ experiment). Its promising results are also analyzed, in respect of the original CAPRI experiment. The Scoring experiment was a step towards the use of combine methods to predict the structure of protein – protein complexes. We discuss here its possible application to predict the structure of protein complexes, from a clustering study on the different results.
In the last chapter of the thesis, I present the preliminary results of an ongoing study on the conformational changes in protein structures upon complexation, as those rearrangements pose serious limitations to current computational methods predicting the structure protein complexes. Protein structures are classified according to the magnitude of its conformational re-arrangement and the involvement of interfaces and particular secondary structure elements is discussed. At the end of the chapter, some guidelines and future work is proposed to complete the survey. / Doctorat en Sciences / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished
