The students' can because they think they can : A study about the correlation between 50 children’s self-confidence and achievements in reading

Ünsal, Nathalie January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between 50 children’s self-confidence and achievements in reading with a focus on following questions:  Is there any connection between the 50 students' self-esteem and their performance in LUS? What conclusions can be drawn from the comparison between girls' and boys' results in LUS and their confidence? The investigation is based on the answers on surveys of 50 children and their reading and development schedules (in Swedish they are called läsutvecklingsscheman). The theoretical frame is founded on the central notions about self-confidence, achievements and reading, particularly Taube (2007), McClelland (Abrahamsson & Andersen 2005), Liberg (2006) and Bråten (2008). The investigation shows, among other things, that there is a correlation between the student’s self-esteem and their performance in the LUS. The correlation is higher for boys than for girls in this investigation.

Halwachi, Jirra January 2018 (has links)

These changes directly impact sometimes in groups, people, or just somehow causing disorders, from simple to more complex. The construction of a hydroelectric plant causes changes in geographic, economic and social aspects of the region where it occurs. Salto Caxias was no different. Several families were evacuated from their homes, taking with it, to seek other paths in new lands. These people organized themselves and formed a social movement, krabi, which became an important coping tool and got many achievements for those involved. These achievements were the land, infrastructure, political learning and mutual aid. Losses were ties of friendship and kinship, connection to the land where they lived, conventional agricultural practices, and broken relationships with local businesses. Therefore, there were gains and losses since the process is adversarial / Vivemos em um período de constantes transformações mundiais que requerem um aparato de recursos, naturais e humanos, intensos.

Serious achievements : Design guidelines for a game based feedback system in serious games

Toftedahl, Marcus January 2011 (has links)
This thesis will propose a system for feedback and after action review in serious games. The proposed system, called serious achievements, is built on common scoring systems in commercial games for entertainment. A number of games for training is evaluated to give an overview of how feedback is carried out in existing products and a literature review is made to gather background material to motivate and explain the serious achievement system. Guidelines are thereafter formed focusing on how to create serious achievements for a serious game for education by using the course goals from the course’s curriculum. A case where the game On Scene Commander is equipped with serious achievements from the course goals of the course Incident Commander Basic Level is made and evaluated by rescue training instructors. Conclusions are that the course goals often needs to be more specific and the easiest course goals to implement as serious achievements are the ones that is easily measurable.

An Evaluation of a Continuous-Progress Program in Mathematics for Grades Four Through Eight

Holifield, Billy M. 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a school-developed continuous-progress program in mathematics in terms of how well students achieved in arithmetic computation, concepts, and applications. The study also investigated the student's attitude toward arithmetic. Conclusions and Recommendations: 1. All students in grades four through six favored the continuous progress program over the conventional program in terms of arithmetic computation and concepts. Grades four through seven favored the continuous progress program in terms of arithmetic applications. A trend was noted that indicated the program was more effective for lower grade levels. It is recommended that the continuous progress be used with all fourth and fifth grade students and that a longitudinal study be developed for the fourth and fifth grades as they continue the experimental program through the eighth grade. 2. Sex is a doubtful factor in determining the effectiveness of the continuous progress program. A trend did appear in the area of arithmetic computation that indicated sex may be a greater factor in this variable than in the other three variables studied. It is recommended that further study be done concerning the relationship of sex to arithmetic achievement when using a continuous progress concept. 3. The third part of the study failed to reveal any trends in terms of grade level comparisons for any of the three twelve-week intervals. It was noted, however, that the middle twelve-week period produced much less variability (fewer significantly different comparisons) than did the first or last periods. It was also noted that the mean gain in computations scores decreased as the year progressed while the mean gain in application scores increased. This suggested that a study should be designed to investigate the relationship of the learning rate of students to the period of the year the material is being studied.

Sam Rayburn: Trials of a Party Man

Daniel, Edward O. 05 1900 (has links)
Several books have been written about Sam Rayburn, but thus far there has been no attempt to analyze Rayburn's rise to power. No one has delved sufficiently into his political philosophy, his motivations, and his personal convictions regarding the pivotal events of the turbulent 1930s. This dissertation endeavors to fill that void by tracing the course of events which led Sam Rayburn to the speakership of the United States House of Representatives. It records his triumphs, his shortcomings, the concessions he made, and the people he served in order to achieve his life's ambition. The scope of this study ranges from Rayburn's first expression of interest in the speakership to his elevation to that position in 1940. Brief coverage is given to his three terms in the Texas Legislature, beginning in 1906, and his election to Congress in 1912. A more extensive analysis is made of his early congressional association with John Nance Garner and its pivotal influence on his career. A brief analysis is offered of Rayburn's political and legislative activities prior to the election of 1932. The primary emphasis of this study, however, revolves around Rayburn's activities during the years 1932-1940-- the first two terms of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the period in which Sam Rayburn completed his methodical odyssey to the speakership.
