Will the real Dolly please stand up : En narratologisk analys av Amanda Svenssons Hey Dolly

Edling, Elisabet January 2011 (has links)
This essay is a study of the Swedish author Amanda Svensson’s novel Hey Dolly (2008). The aim of the study is to investigate the conflict that occurs in the storytelling because of the untruthful narrator Dolly. Using the terms story and discourse, from a method of narratology by Maria Nikolajeva, the purpose is to analyze how the narrator manipulates the reader’s comprehension of what is real and not in the text. The term story represents the reality while discourse embodies the fantasy world, and by separating the two from each other and then comparing them the conflict clarifies as well as the understanding of Dolly. The results of the analysis show that there are several differences between the story and the discourse which various situations illustrate. It also becomes clear that Dolly only focalizes herself and thereby manages to control the reader’s perspective of the told story. But in the dialogue with other persons in the text it reveals that she is not being truthful. The conclusion is that Dolly lives her dream life through the fantasy and that the discourse is a way to defend her against situations she finds too hard to handle.

Amanda Knox: A Content Analysis of Media Framing in Newspapers Around the World

Freyenberger, Deidre 01 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Newspaper coverage can have a positive or negative impact on the image of an individual. This study examined the framing of Amanda Knox in newspapers published worldwide during the 4 years Knox was imprisoned in Italy. An American foreign exchange student, Knox was studying in Italy when her roommate was murdered. A content analysis of 500 major world newspapers was conducted. The study’s purpose was to determine the tone, story placement, and page placement of each mention of Amanda Knox. Newspaper articles associated with the topic were retrieved from the LexisNexis database and analyzed. The results showed that mentions of Amanda Knox were more negative in the United Kingdom and Ireland (25.9%). Story placement of Amanda Knox was more prominent in newspapers of Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, South Korea, and China. Page placement of Amanda Knox mentions was more prominent in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, South Korea, and China (14%).

The Recipe Of A Digital Story: An Analysis Of The Residency "the Recipe Of Me"

Hill, Amanda 01 January 2013 (has links)
This paper explores the processes and outcomes of “The Recipe of Me,” a digital storytelling residency whose goals were to foster autonomy and community among disadvantaged youth aged twelve to fifteen living in the Orlando Union Rescue Mission. Using on-site experience and data, I explore the possibilities and advantages digital storytelling offered the students living in this population and consider the challenges of creating digital stories specific to this site. This case study provides a portrait of the residency which outlines the phases, techniques, tools and approaches used to create the digital stories and empower youth to create using multiple literacies. In doing so, I intend to reveal the ways in which digital storytelling encourages community, autonomy, agency, and artistic voice within youth at Orlando Union Rescue Mission.

Schmidt, Torsten 15 November 2002 (has links)
For the AMANDA detector a new type of Optical Module - the digital Analog Optical Module (dAOM) - has been developed. It incorporates some local 'intelligence' for slow control as well as active electronics for optical analog and electrical analog pulse transmission. Advantages of the optical analog transmission are the absence of crosstalk, a higher linear signal range and a good timing and double pulse resolution, whereas the electrical transmission uses the robust electrical cable as transmission line to the data aquisition. For that reason it is the fallback solution in case of a damaged optical transmission line. 23 dAOMs have been successfully installed in the AMANDA-II detector during the 1999/2000 season. After that the dAOM concept was further improved towards the dAOM++, which was a almost ideal solution for the ICECUBE detector.

Gondouin, Sandra 04 November 2011 (has links)
The literature of Central America – and in particular the contemporary works of the female poets in this region – is a little-studied subject. We therefore wished to help develop this field of research by examining the lyrical work of six women writers from Central America. In this corpus, published from 1948 to the present day, the reinvention of myths is, to our minds, especially significant. In order to tackle this subject, we shall first unravel the threads of these poets’ lives from the fabric of the contemporary history and literature of Central America. We shall then attempt to characterise the types of myths found in their poems – age-old tales (Amerindian, Greek and Biblical) as well as « newborn » myths that are the fruit of stereotyped and images (the Archetypal Female or the « macho » male). Through textual analysis and a theoretical approach based on rewriting and myth criticism, we shall study the way these myths are dealt with according to where they come from and their advisory value regarding women. We shall then consider the way in which the reinvention of myths is part of the poetic depiction of the life cycle from creation (the genesis of the world, of human life; the birth of a child, of a poem) to death. Finally, we shall analyse how the status of women and men is redefined through the prismatic distortion of the myth – by breaking down the dichotomy between the commendable woman (Penelope, the angel in the house) and the femme fatale or « fallen woman » (Eve, Medea, the prostitute), or praising female heroism through new myths (such as the wild woman) – with a view to breaking new ground in male-female relationships.

This is how a real man should be” : A rhetorical analysis of how masculinity is produced in podcasts

Wahlström, Lisa, Allert, Terese January 2012 (has links)
This study examines how masculinity is portrayed in podcasts. Our original material consisted of four episodes of C/o Hannah & Amanda and four episodes of Filip & Fredrik's podcast. We analyzed the programs both individually and in comparison to each other. Using a rhetorical analysis, we found that the perception of men in the podcasts conforms to societal norms. The theoretical basis underlying our analysis can be expected to strengthen our findings and made us also realize that the image of masculinity is constantly evolving.

Andersson, Anna January 2016 (has links)
This essay is a study of three fiction novels by the Swedish author Amanda Svensson: Hey Dolly (2008), Välkommen till den här världen (2011) and Allt det där jag sa till dig var sant (2014). A unified theme for the novels is identity making where the three young female protagonists try different identities and explore who they are. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate in which ways the protagonists explore their identities and how this is expressed. Gender theory and genre theory are used when analyzing the characters in the novels. In the analysis it becomes clear that the protagonists explore their identities in different ways. The three young women are aware of that they live in a society in which male and female gender stereotypes exist. In some cases they adjust to the gender roles but in many cases they also observe the gender stereotypes and problematize them. Therefore the protagonists sometimes differ from how a stereotype woman is portrayed.
