The Paragon Corporation : Exploring Corporate Responsibility and Shared Value for Profitability

Paulsson, John January 2013 (has links)
This thesis is a two-part exploratory inquiry into how actions of Corporate Responsibility (CR) create economic value for the company performing them, in addition to social/environmental value. The purpose of the thesis is to describe the CR initiatives of a theoretical “paragon corporation”: a corporation that excels in its CR initiatives and sees financial gain in it. The report starts by going over literature, describing the CR context that companies operate in today, and similar work. A model for describing CR activities as business activities is drawn from Nancy Bocken’s concept Business Model Archetypes, and it is proposed as a possible tool for describing economic value creation from CR activities. The first part of the study is a word frequency analysis of the annual financial reports of the companies listed on the FTSE 100, where words connected to CR are counted. The sustainability reports of the five companies that have mentioned CR terminology most in the first study are analyzed in detail during the second study, and are characterized using Bocken’s archetypes. Findings show that the paragon corporation should have CR initiatives that can be modeled after the archetypes, enabling the CR initiatives to create direct economic value for the company. The archetypes can be used when formulating a CR strategy from the ground up, or evaluating existing CR strategy. The thesis ends with suggestions for how this can be explored further.

Internet Telephony : An Internet Service Provider's Perspective

Forsell, Erik January 2005 (has links)
The aim of this Masters Thesis is to propose to SYSteam Nät AB, a local Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Uppsala, Sweden, how to implement IP telephony in their existing ITinfrastructure as a service to their customers. Thus the perspective of the thesis will be that of a local Internet Service Provider. Three general areas are covered in the thesis: Market and Business Model, Technology, and Economics. Important issues for SYSteam Nät AB as an established local broadband Internet Service Provider are to both retain present customers and to attract new customers. Some believe that offering value added services such as IP telephony could do this. Implementation of IP telephony can be done in different ways to fulfil SYSteam Nät’s requirements. The analysis leads to a proposal of how SYSteam Nät could implement IP telephony. This involves many multi-faceted business, technical, and financial issues; each aspect is examined in this thesis.

Business information architecture for successful project implementation based on sentiment analysis in the tourist sector

Zapata, Gianpierre, Murga, Javier, Raymundo, Carlos, Dominguez, Francisco, Moguerza, Javier M., Alvarez, Jose Maria 01 December 2019 (has links)
In the today’s market, there is a wide range of failed IT projects in specialized small and medium-sized companies because of poor control in the gap between the business and its vision. In other words, acquired goods are not being sold, a scenario which is very common in tourism retail companies. These companies buy a number of travel packages from big companies and due to lack of demand for these packages, they expire, becoming an expense, rather than an investment. To solve this problem, we propose to detect the problems that limit a company by re-engineering the processes, enabling the implementation of a business architecture based on sentimental analysis, allowing small and medium-sized tourism enterprises (SMEs) to make better decisions and analyze the information that most possess, without knowing how to exploit it. In addition, a case study was applied using a real company, comparing data before and after using the proposed model in order to validate feasibility of the applied model. / Revisión por pares

Bolos, Raphael, Grujcic, Vlado January 2023 (has links)
In the growing digitalization of the grocery industry, it is necessary for traditional grocery retailers to adapt their business models to the new digital era. Augmented reality (AR) and other digital tools have proven to have the ability to transform the grocery business, and it is crucial for traditional grocers to act in order to remain competitive. AR technology has been used in a number of different retail industries, such as the clothing industry and the furniture industry. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the implementation of AR can affectthe business model of a traditional grocery retailer. A case study has been conducted with a food company in Sweden, at the request of our commissioner working in the field of digitalization of different industries. Furthermore, the Triple Layered Business Model Canvas, has been used as a tool to identify the current business model, and to give suggestions on how the future business model can look like, after an implementation of AR. The results show a change on the canvas of the three different sustainability factors, but also an identification of the different challenges a grocery retailer can face. The results show an increased collaboration with external partners and the implementation of new activities for the case company. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the impact on distribution and suppliers, as well as the social consequences. Preparation for the technology is further presented in the study.  The study contributes to increased knowledge of business model change in the grocery industry. Previous research on the impact of AR on the grocery industry has been confirmed, and this paper contributes new research investigating the impact of technological innovations on the business model of traditional grocery retailers. This study also adds knowledge on theuse of the Triple Layered Business Model Canvas as an analytical tool for sustainability and business model change.

Hedlund, Maria January 2022 (has links)

Open Source Software Licenses Impact on Businesses

Carlsson, Oscar, Sjölinder, Hampus January 2023 (has links)
Open source licensing has a significant impact on the choice of business model for companies in the software industry. Permissive open source licenses provide greater flexibility in commercial use and distribution, while restrictive licenses limit revenue generation potential. Understanding the nuances of different open source licenses and complying with licensing requirements is crucial for companies seeking to navigate the complex world of open source licensing and maximize the benefits of open source software.Companies that can successfully navigate the complex world of open source licensing and business model choice can achieve competitive advantage and long-term success in the software industry.  The objective of this thesis is to examine the impact of open source licenses on businesses and delve into how they can shape the choice of utilizing open source software, as well as their implications for business operations. We conduct a literature study and complement it with an empirical study to provide a more complete understanding of the subject. The empirical study enables us to fill in the gaps in our research and compare and validate our findings. Our findings demonstrates the significant impact that licenses can have on a business, highlighting the importance of understanding them for those utilizing open source software. While our results show that the use of open source software does not necessarily limit monetization, there can be restrictions on how products can be monetized. We discovered that the multi-licensing model, which combines an open source license with a proprietary license, can be a viable option for navigating these restrictions.

Retail Business Model Change in the Era of Digital Transformation : A case study from the perspective of a business model canvas

Öhlin, Jennie January 2019 (has links)
With an increased level of digitization in the retail sector, retail incumbents need to adapt their business model to the new digital era. E-commerce business and other digital tools have transformed the retail industry and incumbent retailers have to react to the changes in order to remain competitive on the market. While previous research has examined the nature of the digital tools in retail or the general impact of digital transformation on the sector, the thesis aims to investigate the impact of digital transformation on the business model of a retail incumbent. To investigate the impact of digital transformation on the business model of a retail incumbent, a single case study has been conducted at Company X, an incumbent retailer operating in Sweden. The Business Model Canvas has been used as a tool to identify the current business model of the company, and to propose future business models for Company X. The findings have resulted in the creation of three different Business Model Canvas scenarios with different levels of change in the business model. The scenarios all implied an increased cooperation with external partners and the implementation of new customer channels. The findings of the thesis contribute to an increased knowledge of retail business model change. While earlier research findings regarding the impact of digital transformation on the retail sector were confirmed in the case study, the thesis proposes new research concerning the impact on a retail incumbent’s business model. The study also contributes to how the Business Model Canvas may be used as a unit of analysis when investigating business model change.
