Method to represent IoT solutions during the Business Model Design of a Product-Service System (PSS) / Método de representação de soluções de internet das coisas (IoT) durante o design de um modelo de negócios de um Sistema produto-serviço (PSS)Carrião, Renato Lewenthal 28 September 2018 (has links)
Considering the competitiveness of global markets within an ever-changing environment, a company\'s Business Model should be able to innovate constantly to capture value within the company, while addressing better the customer needs. The PSS Business Model represents an innovation while providing value to the customer supported by a combination of products and services. However, the PSS Business Model also needs to innovate constantly. The Internet of Things (IoT) comprises networked objects able to interact with each other and to people, to reach common goals with a high level of efficiency, thus presenting potential to create a new value proposition to PSS Business Model Design. However, the existing literature represents an IoT solution into PSS Design, using either technical constructs or a high level free textual description. The goal of this study is to propose a \"Method to support the representation of IoT solutions during the PSS Business Model Design\". The method was developed based on the Design Research Methodology (DRM), comprising three research stages. During the first and second stages, a literature review was conducted to generate theoretical requirements for guiding the proposition of the method. During the third stage, the requirements were developed, and multiple case studies using secondary sources were used to propose the method in theory. During the final activity of the third stage, an exploratory application of the method for a Driverless PSS Car Sharing were applied and its results, as well as all the method\'s artifacts, were object of an initial evaluation by a focus group. The results indicated that method has potential to provide a common language for the PSS Business Model designers, while providing detailed information, to be added to the dimensions of a PSS Business Model that comprises IoT solutions.

Nesse sentido, afrouxar fronteiras externas e internas da organização e estabelecer relações dialógicas entre os diferentes atores, pode favorecer o processo de inovação em modelo de negócios / This dissertation approaches the Business Model Innovation (BMI) process of O Globo and Zero Hora newspapers through the adoption of practices that have led them towards the transformation of their traditional models. In this perspective, the literature review addressed the theme Business Model and chose a framework by which the cases were chosen and analyzed, while the BMI process was researched from the perspective of the Strategy as a Practice - to understand how the actions carried out by the actors Led the newspapers to innovation. This perspective takes advantage of a gap in the classic lines of strategy, analyzing it at the organizational level, considering emerging aspects of its construction and the relations between the different actors that compose it. It also addressed the business standards of the newspaper industry, establishing a parallel between paper and digital models. Based on the theoretical evidences, the research problem was established to know what are and how they emerged the practices that favored the BMI process in the cases studied. This question was addressed by the proposition of a conceptual model that related the practices to the factors that led the actors of the organization to the realization of them. From there, the conceptual methodological model was developed, through the study of the two cases - both big newspapers in Brazil that passed by BMI processes. The results of the research indicate that: a) the BMI process begins with the recognition of internal and external motivations to the actors of the organization; B) the motivations lead the actors to carry out formal or informal practices, related to the opening of the boundaries of the organization or to collaboration between areas of the company; C) the practices found permeate different stages of the innovation process; And D) the actors of the innovation process are multiple (internal and external) and collaboration is a common feature of all mapped practices. These propositions suggest that BMI is associated with the open innovation process, to which the aspect of collaboration is inherent. In this sense, becoming porous the organization's external and internal borders and establishing dialogic relations between the different actors can favor the business model innovation process

Study of business model innovation : developing new frameworks of business models for the futureChandrasekara, C. H. M. Kasun Priyanka January 2015 (has links)
The literature review on emerging concepts of 'Business model' and 'Business model innovation' finds significant theoretical and practical potential to facilitate the strategising and innovating activities of modern organisations operating in complex and dynamic business environments. However, a further review of extant literature reveals that although a significant knowledge-base has been accumulated focusing on the content and process aspects of the phenomenon, very few of the conducted studies take a practice-based perspective. Therefore, in keeping with the broader research question of current strategising practices, this research investigates the issue from many possible philosophical, theoretical and methodological angles, in turn making several contributions to the theory and practice of business models while also opening up several potential future research avenues. This research consists of four main research stages sequentially covering problem formulation, two theory creation phases and problem solving, thereby meeting the requirements of a practice-based management research through relevance rather than merely rigour, as in conventional scientific research. As a result, it offers several research contributions to both the theory and practice of business models, which can be immediately put into practice by theorists, practitioners and entrepreneurs: a pluralistic business model research classification framework; a dynamic practice-based approach to the construction of business models; a knowledge-based conceptualisation of business models and a dynamic capability matrix for business model practices. Additionally, this research also offers potential future contributions to adjacent research streams such as dynamic capabilities, strategy as practice and research methodology. Overall, by utilising the philosophy of pragmatism, this thesis advances the contemporary discipline of business models towards a practice-based science, crucially and timely bridging the knowledge gap in existing practice-based theories and frameworks business models. It is hopes that this work will gave rise to a new movement of research on business models, positioning itself as a well established applied-oriented management science among the broader disciplines of strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship.

體驗經濟下台灣稻米產業之商業模式創新 / Business model innovation of the rice industry in Taiwan under experience economy李烈圩 Unknown Date (has links)
In recent years, experience economic viewpoint has been an important role in business. Some companies raise their products’ or services’ value by holding different experiential activities. In addition, the rice industry in Taiwan faces many challenges recently. First of all, imported liberalization and reduction of agricultural subsidies owing to joining WTO make more stress. And then people change their eating habits because of Western cultures. Moreover, many kinds of eating choices and higher proportion of eating outside are harmful for entire rice industry. Therefore, rice farming areas and provisions are decreased as well as the rice industry in Taiwan falls into aggressive competitions of price and yield.
According to business model innovation structure, this study analyzes four Taiwanese successful companies which use experience economic viewpoint. This study gains information from in-depth interviews. This study also hopes to provide case companies some advances which might improve their future development. Furthermore, a referenced model is built by this research result.
This study comes to the following conclusions:
1.The traditional rice industry should actively seek external resources, increase interactions and experiences between consumers and companies and avoid only selling rice goods. These methods could improve the growth and transformation of the rice industry.
2.Business managers need to insist their own central ideals, look for consumers who have the same ideals, create unique experiences and avoid blindly pursuing market share.
3.Business model innovation in the rice industry in Taiwan have to use new technology correctly, create experiences and redesign old elements to find a well balance of convention and innovation.
4.Business model innovation in the rice industry in Taiwan ought to pay more attention to not only wealth potential but also the possibilities of replication and sustainable development.
5.Business model innovation in the rice industry in Taiwan must think of social duty, their own ideals which are spread by experience marketing and media and take responsibility for serving the public.
From these case studies, it is shown that four companies have strongly relationships among innovation opportunities, innovation factors and experience economic viewpoints. In fact, the rice industry in Taiwan can produce wealth potential and increase the possibility of sustainable development by using business model innovation.

Overview of business models for Web 2.0 communitiesHoegg, Roman, Martignoni, Robert, Meckel, Miriam, Stanoevska-Slabeva, Katarina 11 April 2014 (has links) (PDF)
A new type of communities is gaining momentum on the web and is reshaping online communication and collaboration patterns and the way how information is consumed and produced [Gros04, Kolb06]. Examples of such communities are Wikipedia, MySpace, OpenBC, YouTube, Folksonomies, numerous Weblogs and others. In literature different terms can be found to denote the emerging and growing new phenomenon: social software [Bäch06] or peer production [Scho05]. In the year 2005, Tim O'Reilly popularized the term Web 2.0 [O'Reil05]. While the first two terms can be applied also to earlier, already established forms of online communities (for an overview see [Stan02]), the term Web 2.0 is mostly applied to emphasize the differences of emerging communities compared to earlier forms of online communities, encompassing various perspectives - technology, attitude, philosophy. Discontinuités téchnologiques et business models : analyse des mécanismes de transformation de l'industrie du médicament / Technological discontinuities and business models : analysis of the transformation mechanisms in the drug industrySabatier, Valérie 11 July 2011 (has links)
In analyzing recent developments in the drug industry, this thesis brings new elements, both theoretical and empirical, on mechanisms for the transformation of high-technology industries. We seek to understand why the introduction of technological discontinuities does not necessarily lead to change in the industry and on how the dominant logic can be questioned. To address this problem, we used a qualitative approach. We interviewed drug industry experts, and analyzed eleven case studies of biotechnology and bioinformatics companies. Our first theoretical contribution is to propose the concept of dominant logic to complete research on industry life cycle, where we argue that technological discontinuities are a necessary, but not sufficient, condition to change the industry. The concept of dominant logic allows taking into account the general schemes of value creation and value capture that constrain the strategies of the firms that are in the industry. Our second theoretical contribution is to identify four mechanisms of challenge to the industry's dominant logic: new value propositions, alliances with large diversifying entrants, orchestration of networks, and portfolios of business models. Our third contribution is managerial. We offer a tool for the design of corporate strategy. This tool allows articulating promises and risks, medium and long term. Finally, our fourth contribution addresses managers and leaders of the drug industry. We suggest four ways of thinking about the design of their corporate strategies.

Bedömningen inför en inkubationsprocess : Hur företag bedöms i en inkubators urvalsprocess / The assessment for a business incubation process : How companies are assessed in a selection process of a business incubatorMidbratt, Alice, Johansson, Cassandra, Hansson, Timmie January 2018 (has links)
This study aims to create an understanding of how companies are assessed in the selection process of business incubators and identifying the qualities that business incubators value in the assessment. A business incubator is a company that provides start-ups with local, consulting and different types of services. Entrepreneurs with business ideas are applying to incubators to get help develop their ideas and their business. The empirical material has been gathered through six qualitative semi-structured interviews with individuals who have an insight into the selection process of a business incubator. The empirical material is analyzed using the research and literature on business incubators, but also using the model Business Model Canvas. With the help of the empirical material and the theory of this study, an understanding has been created for the selection process. The study shows that all those applying to a business incubator are in different phases and business incubators have different main criteria. That’s why the company has to find the right business incubator for them. The idea and the entrepreneur have been raised as two independent parts as it has been found that business incubators assess these two parts separately. We have found a pattern that shows that there are two different selections in the selection process with a verification phase in between. The selection process is also seen from a sustainability perspective where it can be concluded that it is not a matter of course that it is weighted in the assessment of the companies.
