Öhman, Emmy, Bliding, Emmeline January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to, by using qualitative interviews, describe experiences of mediated social interaction on the Internet for clients in drug treatment. We wanted to examine how this affects clients' ability to change their lives, their identity and social relations. We conducted individual interviews with three people who work at a treatment center where clients have free access to the Internet and with one client on the same centre, and group interviews with a total of seven people who had varied experience in drugtreatment. The results show a general negative view of mediated social interaction during the treatment. The main risk is that clients need to break their connection to “the addiction world” and the Internet complicates this. Contact with friends and acquaintances in “the addiction world” may lead to the client interrupting his or hers treatment. Other risks that our results show is that clients can easily order drugs on the Internet, that you do not focus on the treatment and it makes it more difficult to build an identity and to be part of a community in the sober world.

Malmsköld, Linda, Ginsburg Nordlund, Karin January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate the leaving care services provided to youth leaving residential care in Sweden. Through the use of qualitative research interviews residential care workers perception of what practical and emotional needs youth leaving care have, and whether current aftercare services meet these needs, were examined. The study further sought to compare the swedish and english leaving care services. The main findings of the study were that the residential care workers interviewed expressed that they had a good working relationship with the local social services and that they through the residential care services were able to provide some degree of aftercare. They further identified loneliness as the most prominent emotional need of youth had after leaving care. The most pressing practical need youth leaving care were described as help concerning apartment and job searching, how and when to pay bills as well as managing a budget. The residential care staff further conveyed a wish for a higher degree of regulation surrounding aftercare services. Their main reasoning was to assure that youth leaving care received aftercare regardless of the economic situation of the local municipalities.

Hansen, Linda January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this investigation was to explore how young clients create and develop their identity as inmates at SiS special residential homes. No data collection has been made duringthe investigation. Instead, the investigation has been based on a published material; three editions of the Swedish book series SiS Unga berättar. The investigation has been carried out on the basis of a qualitative approach with a focus on description, interpretation and understanding. The material was analyzed using a qualitative text analysis that consisted of two steps: coding and interpretation. Different patterns, themes and key concepts were identified during the coding. In the interpretation, the different parts of the coding related to each other were linked to theoretical concepts as well as previous research. Goffman's theory of total institutions and Gidden’s theory of identity were used as a theoretical perspective in this investigation. The results of the investigation showed that the environment in the special residential homes can be important for young clients' identity creation as the clients live in a very special context without freedom of action and with very limited communication opportunities. Social relationships can also contribute to young clients' identity construction. For young clients, the relationship with family and friends is often very important and contributes to the clients feeling of safety. At the same time, the results of the investigation indicate that complicated relationships with representatives from the social services are common among young clients. The future is important but uncertain for many young clients. Both actions in the client's past and future opportunities can be important for the young clients' identity construction.

Gyllberg, Ebba, Moe, Emelie January 2024 (has links)
Substance abuse is a global problem that affects individuals in various areas. In Tanzania, substance abuse has significantly increased in recent years, making it a growing issue. There is a distinction between men and women in substance abuse, as they are attributed different expectations by society. Each gender is perceived to have different problems and needs in relation to substance abuse. Research indicates that much of the substance abuse treatment is based on a male perspective, which can result in one gender being treated unfairly. Furthermore, the gender of the substance abuse counselor is a factor that may influence treatment, and there is an inherent dilemma regarding treating everyone equally while still focusing on the specific needs of each individual person. The purpose of this study is to understand how gender can affect the treatment of substance abuse in two treatment centers in Tanzania by examining how substance abuse counselors construct gender. The thesis adopts an ethnographic approach with observation as the data collection method, supplemented by interviews. The empirical data has been analyzed through the theories of gender performativity, gender order, and the gender contract, as well as previous research. The results and conclusions of the thesis indicate that substance abuse counselors construct gender in treatment, revealing both differences and similarities in the way each gender is treated.
