This research is linked to the scientific project in global climate changes "Generation of Alcohol Production Scenarios as Support for the Formulation of Public Policies Applied to the Adaptation of the National Sugar and Alcohol Industry to the Climate Changes". Its aim is to focus more extensive disclosures, for different audiences, on the topic of global climate changes within the internet. This study is justified by its relevance as a channel for diffusion of information and knowledge of contemporary life. It emphasizes, in the first place, how the use of sites, blog and digital social networks, as science communication platforms, serves to identify the target audience and hence attracting new researchers and stakeholders on climate change and its impacts. Still at the process of adjustment to social networks and medias, the introduction of scientific subjects on those networks demands studies, comprehension and analyses of the content in relation to the spread of information and knowledge resulting of this scientific project. When the object of the research is "how to use the network society" to impart knowledge, it is emphasized that the main features of the work are: to recover accessible and detailed information generated by the scientific staff, to retrieve recent and highly publicized events on topics of interest to the target audience of the project and spread them online. Systematically, the purpose of this study was to map the process of scientific dissemination mediated by communication and information technologies. Besides the use of digital social network together with scientific dissemination strategies that have been explored as attempts of conveying and promoting a broad access to the knowledge generated by the researchers, the main results of the work were the improvement and analyses of the scientific information made available to public on the web, and the strategies employed to facilitate access to knowledge generated by the project, together with the website, that was developed with technical features of accessibility, usability and responsive design and that has been the basis for preserving and disclosing the scientific and technological content produced by the research. And, more broadly, contribute to the circulation of scientific information on the Internet and make available papers, dissertations, theses, interviews, videos, audios, texts, photos, newspaper articles and images, information and news about national and international scientific events in context of climate change. The expectation is that the use of the internet can lead users to identify positions that support the studies on the subject and stimulate other readings that help in making decisions about the contemporary world and the changes that happen in it, caused by human activity / Mestrado / Divulgação Científica e Cultural / Mestre em Divulgação Científica e Cultural

A Quiver Full of Mommy Blogs: Ideological Subversion and Reinforcement of Mothering Models OnlineCrosby, Emily Deering 23 August 2011 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / In this study, ideological criticism combined with use of muted group theory are employed to analyze four Quiverfull mothering blogs in order to unveil the models of mothering and maternal messages that emerge from the discourse. The Quiverfull, comprised of fundamentalist Christians who advocate prolific birth rates and strict traditional gender norms, propose a very narrowly defined view of motherhood. Therefore, the goal of this study is to analyze how Quiverfull mothers choose to construct and maintain their own rhetorical vision of motherhood through mommy blogs, in an effort to understand if Quiverfull mothers also struggle to “get it right” like so many other contemporary mothers, faced with cultural contradictions.
The findings unveil that Quiverfull mothers struggle with many of the same ideological pressures that mainstream mothers endure such as being almost entirely responsible for childrearing, wanting to find time for themselves amidst society’s demands that children become a mother’s “everything,” and negotiating their role as mothers in the public sphere. However, Quiverfull mothers’ primary difference from mainstream mothers is through their relationship with God. They relinquish all control to God’s will, challenging the notion that good mothers must always be in control. Additionally, Quiverfull mothers distance themselves from feminist ideology by promulgating the need for male authority and criticizing all pro-choice sentiment. Moreover, through the exploration of these online artifacts, this study acknowledges the ideological differences between mothering groups, yet exposes that both mainstream and Quiverfull mothers find success as a mother almost unattainable. As a result, this study proposes that mommy blogs have the rhetorical ability to challenge mothering models that destine many mothers to “fail,” imbue value into motherhood, and unite women of competing and polarized ideologies as a way to question the “timeless truth” of what constitutes good mothering.

The rest is still unwritten: female adolescents' cultivation of gender from MTV's reality television series "The Hills" through celebrity gossip blog commentarySeeger, Loren A. January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Journalism and Mass Communications / William J. Adams / The purpose of this study is to research cultivation effects of gender represented on MTV reality television series "The Hills" on adolescent female bloggers. Gerbner’s cultivation theory structures the background of this study. By conducting a textual analysis of various celebrity gossip blog sites from November 1-30, 2008, this study will unveil personal opinions relating to the reality of constructed gender representation and authenticity of "The Hills" as a “reality” television program. Blogs provide an ambiguous platform for individuals to immediately express opinions, judgments and attitude concerning the program; therefore, this study will be a contribution to the expanding field of convergence and “new media.” Although comments on the websites are critical of "The Hills" characters and their depiction of “reality,” the television program has a dedicated audience, calling for the reevaluation of “fandom.” Cyberspace offers an opportunity for virtual dialogue among viewers, as well as a platform to express cyberfeminist rhetoric. Women and girls are gaining new social and organizing space, claiming a new form of power and shaping media and society through particular kinds of participatory communication.

Saudi Arabia in the German-Speaking Imagination: Identity, Space and RepresentationCassia, Antonella January 2016 (has links)
This research aims to explore how representations of Saudi Arabia in German travel literature, pilgrimage accounts and online media have transformed the Saudi Arabian space and its place in the European imagination. German travelers, pilgrims, and expatriates enter the foreign Saudi Arabian space, and decipher it in their narratives. The diachronic analysis of several representative texts by German authors from the 18th and 19th centuries narrating their journey to what is today known as Saudi Arabia, shows that the images conveyed in their writings should be conceived in a multidimensional way beyond the lens of historical analysis, taking into account notions of gender, personal motivations, nationality and religion. Analysis of pilgrimage accounts by German converts from the 20th and 21st century reveals an unreflected representation of Western societies and German people in the Middle East. These narratives play a fundamental role in building a bridge connecting Muslim immigrants living in the diaspora with German converts. However, to quote Marcia Hermansen (1999) "even though Western Muslim narrators avoid the excesses of their Christian precursors, they are not completely free from a colonial gaze and "Orientalist" attitudes": in their narratives both the desert and the Bedouins become an imagined and fictionalized trope. In the last part of my dissertation I explore the blogosphere produced by German expatriates living in Saudi Arabia, arguing that expatriate blogs have become a space for cultural representation and othering, that share similarities with the genre of travel writing.

As analyse method is Hans- - George Gadamers displacement of perspective used, to understand the movements in the discourse and the development of Islamic use of Internet. Manuel Castells thoughts about the network society and his work about the power of communication are used as a theorem to understand the Internet and its development in the last decades. The conclusion of this work is pointing at a progression in the use of Internet as a tool for communication in the Islamic community, and a displacement of perspective from western society as the primary enemy, through an internal religious movement to a more diversified conflict among different Islamic groups.
