A contemporary winter count

Scott, Kerry M., University of Lethbridge. Faculty of Arts and Science January 2006 (has links)
The past is the prologue. We must understand where we have been before we can understand where we are going. To understand the Blackfoot Nation and how we have come to where we are today, this thesis examines our history through Indian eyes from time immemorial to the present, using traditional narratives, writings of early European explorers and personal experience. The oral tradition of the First Nations people was a multi-media means of communication. Similarly, this thesis uses the media of the written word and a series of paintings to convey the story of the Blackfoot people. This thesis provides background and support, from the artist’s perspective, for the paintings that tell the story of the Blackfoot people and the events that contributed to the downfall of the once-powerful Nation. With the knowledge of where we have been, we can learn how to move forward. / x, 153 leaves : col. ill. ; 29 cm

První kvítky vykvétaly: Pražská květobraní doby osvícenství a obrození / There Were First Blossoms in Bloom: Prague florilegia in the Age of Reason and Czech National Revival

Jakubcová, Alena January 2015 (has links)
The dissertation deals with the literature of the Czech lands on the background of the social change. The project follows the development of literature, from the enlightenment reforms at the end of the 18th century to the later phase of the Czech National Revival in the middle of the 19th century. The analysis of chosen texts is particularly focused on the role of the florilegia, written in German: collections of literary works and almanacs. The exploration is interested in tendencies, which this literary genre reflects: educative, reviving and mediating.

Molntjänster : en studie av tekniska möjligheter

Olsson, Fredrik, Cruz, Maribel January 2013 (has links)

Modélisation du vieillissement et détermination de l’état de santé de batteries lithium-ion pour application véhicule électrique et hybride / Aging modeling and state-of-health determination for lithium-ion batteries used in electric and hybrid vehicle applications

Eddahech, Akram 12 December 2013 (has links)
In this thesis, we focus on the reliability of lithium batteries used for automotive applications. For this purpose, electric and thermal characterization methodologies as well as aging tests under several modes (calendar, power cycling, calendar/power cycling) are carried out.In a first part of the work, battery modeling and battery state estimation (state-of-charge and state-of-health) are considered. Then, based on periodic characterization from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, calendar aging is investigated. Next, we proposed an original process for precise battery state-of-health determination that exploits a full recharge and mainly constant-voltage charge step which allows easily its integration within a battery management system. Our experimental results, up to two years real-life data, confirm effectiveness of our technique. Finally, we study the capacity recovery phenomenon occurring due to combined battery aging (calendar/power cycling). This final part is almost dedicated to introduce strategies for battery use presenting at the same time a thermal behavior study.

Zbraslavsko v pramenech hromadné povahy 17.-19. století. Demografická sonda se zvláštním zřetelem k obci Lahovice / Zbraslavsko in sources of collective character 17.-19. century. Demographic sound with special view to Lahovice village

Smítková, Alena January 2011 (has links)
The thesis "Zbraslavsko in sources of collective character 17.-19. century" treats informations from the register of births, marriages and deaths of the church St. James the Greater in Zbraslav in 1652-1800 years. The purpose of this thesis next to basic demographical data is the first name question - what (or who) had a bearing on this selection. Here are writing out all first names of this time together with the main factors, which have been able to decide on bearing the first name.

Firma Haase a výtvarné umění v 19. a raném 20. století / Haase Printing and Publishing Company and Fine Arts in the 19th and early 20th Century

Holečková, Kateřina January 2022 (has links)
The Prague based Haase printing and publishing company played an important role in the development of polygraphy, typography, significantly contributed to the Czech national revival and during its existence collaborated with many artists in some cases of world importance. This PhD thesis tries to bring knowledge to the applied graphic art in the Czech lands in general, but also describes the most important historical events of the Haase company, especially these with influence on its art production. The PhD thesis examines the process of graphic work creation and tries to place selected works in the context of work of individual authors and the fine art in the Central European area in general. It is also focused on the nationality issue and the role it played in the selection of artists with whom the Haase company collaborated.

Supporting Interaction Designers through the Accomplishment Support Tool: IxD Companion

Cotoranu, Alexandru January 2012 (has links)
This thesis paper addresses a problem of motivation that interaction designers experience when managing multiple design processes while keeping track of many design considerations. Once this issue is described at length, the paper focuses towards a possible solution in the form of a hybrid between creativity and productivity support tools: an accomplishment support tool. This tool is meant to support interaction designers in their experience with managing multiple processes. This paper does not suggest that interaction design is the only profession that suffers from the motivation issue that is described, nor does it deny that other professions could benefit from the use of such a tool. The paper merely attempts to narrow the issue down to one profession so that it may be addressed within the limits of the thesis project. The paper explores the need for such a tool by inspecting and analyzing current methods and digital applications used by interaction designers and mentions how this need is addressed with solutions based on relevant theories from diverse areas of interest. As defining qualities emerge from a combination of theoretical and practical research, case studies are described from a preparation perspective and then as experienced by workshop participants and interviewees. The case studies (which include workshops and prototype modules) are then reflected upon and discussed in terms of their impact on the overall goals of the thesis project. A final prototype in the form of a web application, IxD Companion, is then described through scenarios of use and assessed in the conclusion. Suggestion to future work on accomplishment support tools such as IxD Companion, as well as others, is provided at the end.
