THE CAPITAL REQUIREMENT DIRECTIVE IV : A study of national divergences in Sweden, Denmark and Germany´s financial markets and the ability to implement the CRD IVLarsson Nyheim, Robin, Larsson Nyheim, Kim January 2012 (has links)
The global financial market has been under a lot of stress in the past years. With the financial crisis that started in 2008, in the US and spread around the world, it created awareness that the world’s financial market requires more regulation to withstand such a crisis. Therefore a new recommended framework for the global financial market was developed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision; Basel III. Basel III presented a new era with stricter supervision of banks and tighter regulations. As the European Union is one of the world’s most integrated regions, it strives to be the first to implement the Basel III framework. In order to achieve this, the European Union created its own legislative package, the Capital Requirement Directive IV.The research purpose of this dissertation is to examine how divergences in Sweden, Denmark and Germany’s national financial markets will affect their ability to implement the new CRD IV regulations. Based on the research the conclusion is that our Swedish respondent is most prepared in meeting the new regulations of our three respondents; the characteristics of the Swedish financial market seem well fit to meet the new requirements. Both Germany and Denmark seems to be experiencing problems; the characteristics of their financial markets create obstacles when implementing the new regulations. Denmark has difficulties with their mortgage lending market due to their unique mortgage model. Germany will have problems with the leverage ratio and their inflexible three pillar banking system. Germany’s government has been skeptical to the new CRD IV regulations and this might also have affected our German respondent in a negative way. With the implementation of the regulations the European Commission aims to improve the banking sector in the member states, so that they will be able to endure stress periods better and help to prevent another financial crisis. However, the implementation of the new regulations puts a lot of pressure on the banks and how well they can perform during the implementation process. With this research a questionnaire is created that will help understand how three major banks in Sweden, Denmark and Germany will be affected by the new regulations and if the characteristics of their national financial markets will give them advantages or disadvantages when implementing them. The answers also give us a conclusion to which of the new regulations each respondent will have the most difficulty of implementing. Future research is suggested to be done into the Danish mortgage lending market and their unique mortgage model, to see if it can co-exist with the new CRD IV regulations. Also an in-depth research into the German three pillar banking system can be interesting, to find out if they are able to maintain it or if they have to restructure it.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify what financial bootstrapping methods small Swedish enterprises exercise and also how they exercise these methods. Furthermore, this study will seek to map which of the identified bootstrapping categories are the most effective at relieving the company’s need of capital. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework in this study compiles theories of The Financial Gap and asymmetrical information. Furthermore, it consists of theories about entrepreneurs and their preferences of capital in The Pecking Order Theory, as well as theories about Financial Bootstrapping and its different methods. Methodology: This thesis has a positivistic and an iterative approach. Furthermore, this thesis consists of a survey research and applies semi-structured interviews as a method to generate data. The sample in this study consists of owners of small enterprises that meet the criteria for a small business according to the EU. The primary data used in this thesis has been generated through interviews with the selected business owners. Result: The empirical findings in this thesis consist of a presentation of the data generated from the interviews with ten different business owners from various enterprises. Conclusion: The most frequently-used bootstrapping methods are: Withhold managers salary, share equipment with other businesses, use own credit cards to finance the enterprise, cooperate with other businesses, lease equipment and seek out best conditions with suppliers. Furthermore the findings in this thesis show that relationship-oriented and private owner-financed financial bootstrapping categories are the most effective at relieving the company’s need of capital.

Regulace úvěrových institucí v EU / Regulation of credit institutions in the EUKottasová, Anna January 2017 (has links)
This thesis evaluates the regulation of credit institutions. Its aim is to answer the question of how the regulation of credit institutions evolved and how this development influenced current regulation. This thesis examines the potential of credit institution regulation to prevent further financial crises. At first the author deals with the development of the market of financial services and subsequently with the development of regulation of credit institutions. In the first part the author analyses the positive and negative aspects of each piece of legislation, reasons for their adoption, changes or their further use. This thesis deals particularly with capital adequacy requirements. It analyses their gradual development and reason for their amendments, especially in the context of the recent financial crisis. The author concludes that that current se-up of the credit institution regulation and its expected development puts too much emphasis in increasing of the capital adequacy requirements. The author sees this aspect especially in the directive on capital requirements from 2013 which presents new buffers that the credit institutions are required to hold and in the resolution directive from 2014 which adds new, yet similar requirements. The author particularly disagrees with the assessment of...

Basel III : En studie om hur banker och dess kunder påverkas avdet nya regelverket / Basel III : A study about how banks and their customers are affectedby the new regulationsPersson, Philip, Fredin, Emil January 2012 (has links)
To prevent the emergence of bank crises and to help banks resist turbulent economy, the Basel Committee created a regulation framework. This framework was introduced in 1993 and was called Basel-1. During the years this framework has been changed to suite new situations. The latest change was done after the financial crises in 2008 and is going to be implemented in 2013. This, latest edition is called Basel-3 and includes among other things a strong capital requirement. Before the implementation of Basel-3 many questions has come to light. To answer some of these, two problem formulations have been created in this thesis. How do the bank office managers think that they will be affected by the new regulations of Basel-3? How do the bank office managers think that their customers will be affected by the new regulations of Basel-3? To seek the answers to these questions, three bank directors have answered quite many questions in interviews and by e-mail. These answers have been formed and put together to get an idea of what they think will happen when the new regulations of Basel-3 will be implemented. When analyzing these answers the authors have found out that both the banks and their customers probably and already have been affected by these new regulations in quite many ways.

Asset allocation under Solvency II : Adjusting investments for capital efficiency / Tillgångsallokering i Solvens II : Inkludering av kapitalkrav vid investeringarHELLGREN, ERIK, UGGLA, FREDRIK January 2015 (has links)
Solvency II is a new regulatory framework concerning insurance companies in the European Union, to be introduced in 2016. The effects of the regulation have been discussed and previous literature believes it will have a significant effect on insurance companies’ asset allocation. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the optimal asset allocation for a life insurer with respect to internal risk-return requirements and external capital requirements imposed by Solvency II. The thesis performs a case study on a Swedish life insurer for the purpose of developing and evaluating an asset allocation model which incorporates future liabilities of the life insurer. Through quadratic optimization, the asset allocation is optimized for portfolios associated with a certain expected return and the current allocation is compared to optimal portfolios. The results show that it is possible to optimize the asset allocation from both a risk-return and capital requirement perspective. However, they are subject to large shifts in asset allocation. The thesis also shows that there is a large discrepancy of risk from a standard deviation standpoint and regulatory capital charges. One example are hedge funds which have shown a low historical volatility but are classified as an asset with high risk in Solvency II. This study contributes to theory by providing an investment decision framework for life insurers that includes capital charges for asset allocation.

Examining the effectiveness of the new Basel III banking standards : experience from the South African Customs Union (SACU) banksMusafare, Kidwell 02 1900 (has links)
This dissertation explored the efficacy of the new Basel III banking standards in SACU, grounded on the conjecture that they are not reflective of economies of SACU, but are merely an intensification of Basel II, rather than a substantial break with it. Firstly, loans and assets were tested for causality, since Basel III believes growth in these variables led to securitization. The leverage ratio has been introduced in Basel III as an anti-cyclical buffer. The OLS technique was employed to test for its significance in determining growth in bank assets. SACU feels the impact of debt, with credit is marginally treated in Basel III and is not introspective of the realities of its economies. ANOVA tests using debt, credit and GDP were done to determine a better method of addressing cyclicality. The leverage ratio was insignificant in Namibia, with debt and credit having momentous impacts on GDP in SACU. / Economics / M. Com. (Economics)
