Historie, současnost a budoucnost výměnných formátů bibliografických dat / History, Presence and Future of Exchangeable Formats of Bibliographic Data

Rösslerová, Klára January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation focuses on the data exchange bibliographic formats that have been used in the libraries since the 1960s. There have not been many changes over the decades although librarians have been calling for them. Since the beginning of the new millennium, there has been a growing pressure for change. The aim of this dissertation is to try to summarize the activities in this field and to outline possible future development. The formats used in the past and in the present are analysed in the first part. It is possible to predict the future development on the basis of the analysis of individual projects and on the basis of surveys. The results of the analysis suggest that these activities are headed to a linked data publication model that preserves the current cataloguing procedures. Keywords: exchange formats, bibliographic data, MARC format, MARC 21 format, linked data, BIBFRAME, Schema.org, cataloguing

Knihovna Státního zámku Litomyšl. Dějiny knihovního fondu, analýza a katalogizace jeho největší části / State castle Litomyšl library. The history of the library collection, the analysis and cataloguing of its greatest part

Večeře, Vít January 2020 (has links)
The subject of this diploma thesis is the library of the state castle Litomyšl that was created as a product of the state institutions in the second half of the 20th century. The thesis deals with the topic in two fundamental segments - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part provides comprehensive processing of the library history and analysis of the particular unit especially from the topical, chronological and geographical point of view. The paper also focuses on the language, provenance as well as physical condition of the books and especially the graphics of the prints. From a thematic point of view, particular emphasis is placed on the most interesting, though not very numerous, group of religious prints and manuscripts. The practical part of the thesis, which consists in the cataloguing of the fund, brings the greatest factual contribution, especially to Národní památkový ústav that will therefore obtain a complex overview on one of its collections, but also to specialized public, for whom the composition of the catalogue means the possibility of the research use.

Das Internationale Quellenlexikon der Musik, RISM: Ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt zum Nutzen und als Aufgabe für Forschung und Bibliotheken

Keil, Klaus, Pugin, Laurent 03 December 2019 (has links)
The International Inventory of musical Sources (RISM) is an international joint project with the aim of comprehensively documenting the sources of music worldwide. It offers an online catalogue that is available free of charge to librarians, musicians, scientists and all interested people. Increasingly, however, the exchange of data comes to the fore, be it from local online library catalogues to RISM or vice versa. For the science, the reuse of the data, which are available as open data as well as linked open data, may be of interest in special projects.

Authority control in an academic library consortium using a union catalogue maintained by a central office for authority control

Marais, Hester, 1961- 31 March 2004 (has links)
Authority control is the backbone of the library catalogue and therefore a critical library activity. Experienced staff create authority records to assist users in their quest for information. The focus of this study is on authority control as a means of co-operation in academic library consortia using a union catalogue maintained by a Central Office for Authority Control. Literature studies were conducted on three sub-problems: the development of academic library consortia in South Africa, and various forms, characteristics and functions of academic library consortia in general; the characteristics, principals and objectives of authority control; and the functions of union catalogues with special reference to the role of Z39.50 within virtual union catalogues. The conclusion was that existing and new authority records should be made available as widely as possible within consortia through a union catalogue. It is however a partial solution, because not all the libraries within the consortium have the expertise to create new authority records. Two empirical studies were conducted. A cost analysis was done to determine the cost of creating and changing authority records within academic library consortia in South Africa, in order to choose a system within which authority control can be performed effectively and speedily. Secondly, a questionnaire was sent to libraries in the United States to gather information on their experiences with regard to authority control, library co-operation in general, and virtual union catalogues. The United States was the natural choice because it could be regarded as the birthplace of modern library consortia. Inferences drawn from the information received was used to develop the structure and functions for a Central Office for Authority Control in academic library consortia in South Africa. It was found that authority control within an academic library consortium using a union catalogue could be conducted most cost-effectively and timeously through such a Central Office for Authority Control. The purpose of the Central Office would be to co-ordinate authority control within the consortium. Pooling available resources within the consortium would keep the cost of authority control as low as possible. Libraries with the required infrastructure and expertise would have the opportunity to create authority records on behalf of other libraries and be compensated for their services. Through such a Central Office more authority records created according to mutually accepted standards would be available for sharing within the consortium.

Peset Mancebo, Mª Fernanda 11 July 2002 (has links)
The aim of this study is to develop a methodology that allows dealing with an artistic public collection which is not an established museum in a standardized way. It has been used a scientific method, including bibliographic review techniques as well as research work, which has been essential to identify Internet resources and to adapt and import textual data in a computer application. It is organized in eight chapters that begin with conceptual determinations, and the identification and classification of the artistic information sources. Then, the work studies the organizations that custody and spread the information and the procedures used for it, from an international perspective to a local view. The last chapter develops this knowledge implementing the method through a computer application and its validation with the Rectorate of the Polithecnic University of Valencia's records. This work demonstrates the need to use techniques and procedures experienced or previously tested at museums in any collection. In this way, compatibility of the results of the information treatment is ensured: the museums' documentation systems. The implemented method comes to the conclusion that it is possible to apply standardized techniques of information treatment to any artistic information, with its peculiarities.

Pfleger, Claudia 17 December 2002 (has links)
The didactics of distance education in the area of descriptive cataloguing with special attention to computer aided instruction The didactic requirements and the methods of information technology that can be used in distance learning of descriptive cataloguing and in the preparation of appropriate computer aided instruction programs are first investigated theoretically and then practical recommendations are made. In the design of distance education several learning theories should be incorporated. The topics of instruction should include not only cataloguing and standards, but also the conversion of descriptive cataloguing to EDP formats, descriptive cataloguing from the perspective of the user and the organisation of descriptive cataloguing. Cognitive, pragmatic and affective learning objectives are set out. Bloom's taxonomy of learning objectives is adapted to meet the advanced needs of descriptive cataloguing. In addition, personal competences are reviewed. Instruction must correspond to the needs of the target group. Factors that must be taken into account are age, level of education, existing specialised knowledge, sex and different learning styles. The need to motivate learners is especially important in distance education. To this end ARCS-motivation theory is expanded to include the topic "freedom". Gagné's "Nine Events of Instruction" are expanded by methods of constructivism to encompass eleven didactic statements, which are formulated in terms of descriptive cataloguing. Standards can best be taught by means of computer aided tutorials using hypermedia. In the development of these tutorials the same didactic considerations are realised as in the planning of instruction. In order to assure the flexibility of tutorials, the technical design should be uncomplicated. The first two modules of a tutorial "Conversion of RAK-WB to ALEPH500" have been developed to demonstrate the feasibility and means of designing such a tutorial.

In this context, a theoretical model for cataloguing known as Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) was published in 1998. Generally speaking, the cataloguing codes are divided into two parts: one related to description and another to the access points. This work aims to analyse the procedures to choose the access points of personal responsibility of the bibliographic records, in order to relate them to the concepts shown in the FRBR. The present work is characterized as a theoretical search and the investigation resorts to deductive approach to analyse the rules and the internationally accepted principles utilized in the choice of the access points. This search also has an empirical part to collect factual data about the use of cataloguing rules and to compare the registers with or without the use of the FRBR. As a result, it is observed that the cataloguing rules are still directed to the impressed catalogues. However, the concepts presented by the FRBR are related to the automated catalogues. The FRBR enlarge the dimensions of the responsabilities about the content of work and expression, and they translate the social changes to the possibilities of information representation in the bibliographic records. With the FRBR the rules have to be stipulated to facilitate the user activities. This implies in the review of the cataloguing rules, mainly the ones related to the choice of the access point. In this way, the professional of information will pay more efforts to determine which the access points for the user are. Among the uncountable impacts caused by the FRBR, perhaps the most important are to resume the discussion about the cataloguing in theoretical level and to highlight the importance of intellectual work of professional of information. Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records).

Bruschi, Viola Maria 28 September 2007 (has links)
The present work addresses issues related to the identification, cataloguing evaluation, protection and utilisation of geodiversity's resources. One of the main difficulties to carry out such tasks lies in the subjectivity. The work presented here includes an initial inventory of sites of geological interest in the region of Cantabria. Then, a group of sites of geomorphologic interest has been selected to make comparisons between different evaluation methods, determine the degree of coincidence between the ranks of classifications obtained and make recommendations on the most advisable procedures. These methods make it possible to apply transparent, clearly defined criteria which can provide replicable results if applied by different operators and can therefore be subject to external test and scrutiny. The above methods can provide good results using only six parameters that express three significant qualities of sites: scientific interest or intrinsic quality; potential for use; threats for conservation. The type of evaluation methods described has been applied to design a method for the incorporation of geosites into the EIA process. In order to contribute to the valorisation of geodiversity's values, a series of specific proposals are presented for the protection and use of sites of geologic interest in Cantabria.
