Nilsson, Frida, Henriksen, Anne January 2012 (has links)
Background: Healthcare professionals can help patients create motivation for a behavioral change through motivational interviewing, MI. MI is a form of guidance to help patients develop their own arguments for a change. MI also promotes collaboration between healthcare professionals and patients. Objective: The purpose of this study was to study physiotherapist’s experiences of MI in patient care. Method: Four physiotherapists who considered themselves to work with MI were interviewed in a semi-structured interview. The interview material was analyzed through a qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. Results: The physiotherapist’s experiences of MI were generally positive. The physiotherapists experienced that MI is good when patients are going to have a behavioral change. The physiotherapists also felt that they get a better picture of the patient´s perspective and better cooperation with the patient using MI. The physiotherapists felt that there are some difficulties with the use if MI as well as some categories of patients that can complicate the work. However, they feel that their own work has been improved with MI and that the patient is more involved in their treatment. Conclusion: The physiotherapists felt that MI changed their approach and attitude in a positive way. The authors think it would be good to do bigger and quantitative studies in order to generalize the results to a larger population.

However, interviews may cause changes in individuals' behavior or may inhibit changes which would occur if they were not being observed. If being observed changes the behavior of the studied population, the sample ceases to be representative of the population. In this paper, I investigate whether individuals periodically interviewed in a longitudinal epidemiological research conducted in Pelotas, Brazil, are affected along relevant dimensions, in particular, education and health. I find only a significant effect on ENEM score.

Dissonance cognitive et transformation de la représentation sociale du sport : effets du changement de la signification d'un élément central sur les attitudes et les comportements / Cognitive dissonance and dynamics within the social representation of sport : effects modification of a central element signification on attitudes and behaviours

Bert, Nicolas 21 November 2016 (has links)
The theory of commitment (Joule & Beauvois, 1998 ; Kiesler, 1971), combined with thetheory of cognitive dissonance (Festinger, 1957 ; Fointiat, Girandola, & Gosling, 2013),provides an experimental framework of observation and understanding of some social practiceeffects on the social representation dynamics (Abric, 1994 ; Flament, 1994 ; Guimelli, 1989).This work follows on from the research led in the area of the effects of forced doublecompliance (Joule, 1991) on the transformation of social representations (Renard, Bonardi,Roussiau, & Girandola, 2007). The aim of this thesis is more precisely to determine what typesof modification within the social representation of sport among nonathletic students are likelyto produce an impact on attitudes and behaviours, and to see whether those changes originatefrom some dissonance reduction processes. If the structural transformation of sport socialrepresentation produces an evolution on short-term attitudes, it seems that the modification ofa central element signification causes long-term attitudinal and behavioural changes. Thestudents who fulfilled two acts in a context of commitment (ie, free- choice) declare themselvesmore favorable and practise more sport than the participants in the control condition. Aninterpretation in terms of rationalisation is put forward.

Is Covid-19 a blessing in disguise for young people and their personal finance?

Wirén, Hugo, Ågerup, Philip January 2023 (has links)
The global pandemic of Covid-19 led to a crisis of not only fatal impact but financially. The stock market experienced one of its biggest market crashes ever and the young investors of our generation experienced something that they could never imagine. Their financial situation and investments suddenly changed and many of them did not know how to act or behave during this difficult period. This paper is based on qualitative research where ten different young investors have been interviewed to determine if they have matured and how their behavior has changed financially. The two research questions for the paper are: Is Covid-19 a blessing in disguise forcing young investors to mature, increasing their financial literacy, and thus change their investment behavior? and how has the Covid-19 pandemic affected young investors decision making on the stock market? The study and research questions were determined using three theories which are the efficient market hypothesis, behavioral finance, and the stages of change model. All three models were used to see how an individual behave during a financial crisis. The efficient market hypothesis basically argues that all relevant information matches the prices of stocks at any given time. Behavioral finance examines how an individual behave in a financial setting such as investment behaviors. Herding behavior and overconfidence are two cognitive biases within behavioral finance that was easily seen in the individuals for this study. The stages of change model states that an individual go through five different stages when a change of behavior is needed. This model could be applied on any individual, but a change of investments behavior should not go through so many stages as the model has so it had some limitations on the individuals in the study. The results and findings of the paper states that young investors have learned a valuable lesson from the Covid-19 pandemic increasing their financial literacy and creating more sustainable strategies for future investments.
