This study reviews literature regarding the antecedents of locus of control. The
development of locus of control in children is found to be related to parent attitudes,
behaviours and interactions between parents and children. Literature was further
consulted to understand the relationship between parenting and locus of control
development. It was decided, based on continued review of literature, that parent
guidance based on a social cognitive learning approach was a valid therapeutic
model to enhance internal locus of control in children. The parent guidance model
proposed in this study was based on parenting guidelines to enhance internal locus
of control in children. The aim is to bring about transformation of parent attitudes
and behaviours through therapeutic means, which will produce change in the
parent-child relationship. This interaction was expected to lead to enhanced
internality in the child participants.
The empirical study engaged a predominantly qualitative methodology, using an
action research design. The sample consisted of 14 families representing various
racial groups and family structures. Data collection methods included
questionnaires, observation and focus groups to determine the effectiveness of the
proposed therapeutic model. Results showed that group parent guidance based on
a social cognitive learning approach and focussing on development, responsibility,
consistency, home environment, parent style, emotional intelligence, modelling,

This thesis explores mothers' reactions to, and methods of dealing with, the sudden death of a child, using a constructivist approach. The study focusses on the meanings that mothers construe in relation to the sudden death of their child and the role of these constructions in her "recovery" from this loss. It also explores the grieving process, the effect of the loss on the mother, including a focus on changes in her value system, her role as a mother and as a wife, as well as the impact of this loss on the family system. The study was conducted on the basis of qualitative research methodology, making use of the case study method.

Este trabalho de pesquisa teve o objetivo de investigar as representações sociais sobre a figura paterna no discurso de crianças e adolescentes em situação de risco e de vulnerabilidade social. Os atores da pesquisa fazem parte de uma escola pública, situada na cidade de Nazaré da Mata (PE). Os participantes deste trabalho possuem pai, mãe e irmãos, todavia fazem parte de um segmento social onde as condições de vida econômica e afetiva são difíceis. Foram entrevistadas vinte crianças e adolescentes, na faixa etária entre dez e dezessete anos. O que nos impulsionou a investigar a figura paterna, a partir da fala de crianças e adolescentes, tem sido a crescente idéia em livros e nos meios de comunicação, que o pai está tentando participar mais da vida dos filhos. Nossa pesquisa aponta que isto ainda está em processo e não se estende a todas as famílias. O que temos constatado é uma cobrança na modificação do papel da figura paterna na contemporaneidade. A pesquisa é de cunho qualitativo-interpretativa. Apresenta através das representações sociais das crianças e adolescentes um pai idealizado, mas não impossível de ser exercitado, desde que seja melhorada a qualidade de suas relações com os filhos e com a família de modo geral. Previous issue date: 2013-09-02 / The present research aims to study, as part of the analytic listening, the family relationships present in the psyche of the patient treated individually. To achieve this purpose, it was developed a systematization of the theoretical content of the psychological aspects of family group functioning, concerning the participation in the psyche of its members. A systematization of some elements of psychoanalytic clinic was also carried out, particularly the listening, the transference and the countertransference. From the methodological point of view, we compiled theoretical considerations that turned the logic of our goal more consistent. The development of the work focused on three central themes presented in three chapters. In the first one, the highlight was the intersubjective nature of the psychic constitution. For this, we used as main reference Kaës, focusing on group dimension in the individual subject, and Winnicott, on the importance of the primary relationship mother / baby (and family) in the psyche constitution. In the second chapter, we discussed the clinic from a listening that considers the family group aspects of the patient treated individually. In this respect, we made a brief consideration on clinic today, highlighting the events that reveal some depletion of the symbolic capacity. Then we discussed about some elements that define the space / clinical field, addressing mainly the perspective of the evolution of these concepts in the history of psychoanalysis. In the third chapter, we discussed about some of the group elements of psychic constitution that can be listened in individual treatment. We used fragments of cases to illustrate this discussion. We believe that this study contributes to a discussion of psychoanalytic clinic from an "expanded listening", a listening that enhances the subject who is constituted in the family. / A presente pesquisa teve por objetivo estudar, como elemento de escuta analítica, as relações familiares presentes no psiquismo do paciente atendido individualmente. Para tanto, realizou-se uma sistematização do conteúdo teórico sobre os aspectos psíquicos do funcionamento grupal familiar, no enfoque de sua participação no psiquismo de seus membros. Foi necessária, também, uma sistematização acerca de alguns elementos da clínica psicanalítica, particularmente, a escuta, a transferência e a contratransferência. Do ponto de vista metodológico, recolheu-se dos textos escolhidos as considerações teóricas que tornaram mais consistente a lógica do objetivo. O desenvolvimento do trabalho focalizou três temáticas centrais, apresentadas em três capítulos: no primeiro, destacou-se o caráter intersubjetivo da constituição psíquica. Desse modo, utilizou-se como referencial principal Kaës, enfocando-se a dimensão grupal no sujeito individual, e Winnicott, para a importância da relação primária mãe/bebê (e da família) na constituição do psiquismo. No segundo capítulo, foram apresentados possíveis aspectos da clínica que contemplam uma escuta dos aspectos grupais familiares do paciente atendido individualmente. Nesse contexto, refletiu-se sobre a clínica na atualidade, ressaltando-se as manifestações que revelam certo empobrecimento da capacidade simbólica. Em seguida, comentou-se sobre alguns elementos que definem o espaço/campo clínico, abordando principalmente a perspectiva da evolução desses conceitos na trajetória da Psicanálise. No terceiro capítulo, discutiu-se sobre alguns dos elementos grupais da constituição psíquica que podem ser escutados no atendimento individual. Empregaram-se fragmentos de casos para ilustrar essa discussão. Acredita-se que esse estudo possa contribuir para uma discussão da clínica psicanalítica a partir de uma escuta expandida , ou seja, uma escuta que evidencie o sujeito constituído na família.

The focus of this study was to investigate psychological effect on grandchildren when they are being raised by their grandparents. Considerable research has been done on the
psychological effect on the grandparents, but very little on the effects on grandchildren, especially in South Africa.
By means of a mainly qualitative investigation, empirical data were collected through informal discussions, observations and projection media from four families and seven grandchildren in total.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a difference in communication between
parents and adolescents in restructured and structured families.
To supplement the literature, two groups of adolescents were given questionnaires on
parent child communication. The experimental group was from restructured families while the
control group was from structured families. An in depth study through interviews and Thematic
Apperception Tests was done. Furthermore, the researcher supported her study by exploring case
studies, group therapy sessions and some sessions during her years of internship.
Besides the fact that there was no significant difference in communication between these groups,
language as a factor in communication seemed to have a significant impact. In the eight moments
(criteria) under which the questions of the questionnaire were categorized, it came out that good
communication is not dependent on the structure of the family but on the interaction of individuals

en riglyne vir die ko-terapeute is empiries getoets vanuit 'n sielkundig opvoedkundige
perspektief. / Separation anxiety is an anxiety disorder in children as a result of their inability to
separate from their mothers. The intensity of the anxiety experience in the child
is generally underestimated.
Separation anxiety manifests itself when the child enters school. This experience
presents in the child's formal entry into the field of experience where personal individual
demands are made. Separation anxiety presents a negative influence on
the total field of experience, his relations to it, encompassing scholastic
functioning and social relationships.
The research is focused on the junior primary pupil (Sub A up to Stan de rd 1).
There is no differentiation regarding sex. A list of diagnosis, the idiographic research
and diagnostic model, and the pedotherapy programme (Jacobs: 1980, ·
1981) are all used, to diagnose separation anxiety and for the treatment of this
condition. The effectiveness and usefulness of these therapeutic techniques and
guidelines for the co-therapists were empirically tested from a psychological educational
