Hohokam Core Area Sociocultural Dynamics: Cooperation and Conflict along the Middle Gila River in Southern Arizona during the Classic and Historic Periods

January 2010 (has links)
abstract: Patterns of social conflict and cooperation among irrigation communities in southern Arizona from the Classic Hohokam through the Historic period (c. 1150 to c. 1900 CE) are analyzed. Archaeological survey of the Gila River Indian Community has yielded data that allow study of populations within the Hohokam core area (the lower Salt and middle Gila valleys). An etic design approach is adopted that analyzes tasks artifacts were intended to perform. This research is predicated on three hypotheses. It is suggested that (1) projectile point mass and performance exhibit directional change over time, and weight can therefore be used as a proxy for relative age within types, (2) stone points were designed differently for hunting and warfare, and (3) obsidian data can be employed to analyze socioeconomic interactions. This research identifies variation in the distribution of points that provides evidence for aspects of warfare, hunting, and the social mechanisms involved in procuring raw materials. Ethnographic observations and archaeological data suggest that flaked-stone points were designed (1) for hunting ungulates, or (2) for use against people. The distribution of points through time and space consequently provides evidence for conflict, and those aspects of subsistence in which they played a role. Points were commonly made from obsidian, a volcanic glass with properties that allow sources to be identified with precision. Patterns in obsidian procurement can therefore be employed to address socioeconomic interactions. By the 18th century, horticulturalists were present in only a few southern Arizona locations. Irrigation communities were more widely distributed during the Classic Period; the causes of the collapse of these communities and relationships between prehistoric and historic indigenes have been debated for centuries. Data presented here suggest that while changes in material culture occurred, multiple lines of evidence for cultural continuity from the prehistoric to Historic periods are present. The O'Odham creation story suggests that the population fluctuated over time, and archaeological evidence supports this observation. It appears that alterations in cultural practices and migrations occurred during intervals of low population density, and these fluctuations forced changes in political, economic, and social relationships along the middle Gila River / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Anthropology 2010

Hiérarchie et séparation des pouvoirs dans les sociétés anonymes de type classique / Hierarchy and separation of powers in the classic limited company

Abdelmoumen, Nedra 06 December 2013 (has links)
There is no legislation asserting that the limited company is governed according to the principles of hierarchy and separation of powers. It is the jurisprudence of the Motte ruling that establishes these principles modeled on a political democracy. The challenge is therefore to verity the application of these principles in classic limited companies. The presence of the principle of separation of powers seems to be associated with the presence of the principle of hierarchy. However, the relationship between the two principles is traditionally tumultuous. Nevertheless, it is hardly about a simple report. Indeed, the assertion according to which shareholders assembly occupies a sovereign position in the hierarchy does not resist for a long time to the analysis. The apparent peaceful coexistence between the principle of hierarchy and the principle of separation of powers is eroded when facing the market requirements. This market is an external actor to the limited company. However it intensely demonstrates that the rules governing the organization of power in the company imperfectly reflect the relationship between these principles. The different cases of these principles revealed the presence of strongly binding and paradoxical imbalances, even distortions, between the practice of these principles and what is required by the essence of their determinants. These findings are not opposed to the possibility of reaching consistency and harmony in the general operation of the limited company. However, the development of alternatives should not challenge the legitimate influence of the market. On the contrary, it is to enforce the economic role of the company. Thus, a primary objective of this thesis is to show that even though the principles of hierarchy and separation of powers are the founders of the companies operating principles, they nevertheless require a re-founding. The re-founding aims to determine the purpose of the principles, redefining the powers of the sovereign body, as well as streamlining the powers of the managing body. Finally, to resume the dialogue between the two bodies, their relationship should be relativized, incorporating the values of cooperation and conciliation in the culture of the company.

Audiences and participants : researching theatre users at Contact, Manchester

Groschel, Uwe January 2013 (has links)
When people 'go to the theatre' we know that they are audiences. When young people go to Contact, however, they might be audiences, performers and/or theatre makers - they might play all three or more roles. Contact's users blur existing concepts and terminology. When we want to know more about theatre audiences, audience research offers models based on the distinction between audiences and theatre makers. If we want to know more about Contact's users, however, a model reflecting the blending of audiences and theatre makers' roles has yet to be developed. This thesis engages with Contact's users. It maps some of their multiple roles and experiences by asking two main questions: What are the practices of the people attending Contact and how can these practices be researched? A range of qualitative methods is necessary in order to investigate the wide variety of Contact's users' roles and experiences. Individual and group interviews are drawn from audience research, creative workshops are drawn from communication studies, and participant observation and visual research from the social sciences. Finally, a new method, Walking Fieldwork, is adapted for the use in theatre. A number of case studies are employed to investigate Contact's users. These case studies involve the observation of young actors during rehearsals and performances, the observation of participants in an outreach project, the investigation of audiences' experiences of two productions, and several short post-show interviews with general Contact audiences. This study found evidence that the relationship between theatre makers and audiences is changing. The term 'theatre user' is introduced as it opens up an area of overlap between the two and fits contemporary practices at Contact more closely. Contact's users function as communities, participants and co-creators. The descriptions of these roles and experiences contained in this thesis are understood as an initial exploration into practices of contemporary theatre users. However, further research is needed to build a more detailed understanding of these practices. In terms of research methods, this study found that the academic field of audience research needs to develop methods which are sensitive to both the backgrounds of theatre users and the theatrical context. The argument is put forward that audience research should become more aware of methods for the investigation of human experience and should enter into a 'methods-dialogue' with other academic fields of study.

The film adaptation has become, for decades, one of the most advantageous and profitable expedients of the cinema industry. And this isn't a new phenomenon. "Inspired" movies in literary works to be the entire history of cinema. A specific genre - called noir - emerged as a source for adaptations from novels and short stories published in popular books or magazines. The noir genre whose heyday occurred in the early 40s to the late 50s, with its "origin" in the lyrics, now spreads into production in two different media, literature and cinema, showing up in a symbiotic relationship and mutual inflections. The noir phenomenon is not only happened in the United States of America, it is transnational phenomenon. In Brazil, for example, some noir fiction also expressed an ongoing relationship between cinema and literature, as with Rubem Fonseca literary works. This research aims to make a stylistic analysis of the film "Bellini and the Sphynx", literary adaptation of the novel by Tony Bellotto, comparing it with classic film noir genre. Is souch also situate the film, directed by Santucciem a "case" in which the relationship with the "matrix" American absorbs and is associated with other audiovisual biases, which invites us to expand to see the size issues of adaptations. As a theoretical basis appealed to the problem of intertextuality in authors such as Mikhail Bakhtin, Julia Kristeva and Ingedore Koch. For film analysis, the theoretical basis turn important to study David Bordwel and Jaques Amont and others.

Bentinho, Capitu, Escobar, Dona Glória, José Dias and Ezequiel; characters from Dom Casmurro that merge to this writing to compose the present work of dissertation, whose main objective is to weave a shared reading of a classic book with students of Youth and Adult Education (YAE) of a public institution from Rio Claro / SP, by the development of the activity of Dialogic Literary Gatherings (DLG). The DLG is a collective and dialogic reading activity of the literature classics, which participants share their understandings of what was read from their reading of the world. It is a qualitative research and procedures involve the collective selection of the classic work that was read in the activity and the development of the ten meetings in the classroom for the reading of Dom Casmurro, book collectively selected. From this, the participation of the students in the TLD activity was observed, as well as the written record of the participants. All the meetings were recorded and later transcribed, and the data produced and collected were organized in thematic axes triggered from the speeches of the participants who tell us about the process of reading of poorly schooled people. We focus on the main studies of Dialogic Learning, a theoretical-methodological basis that guides the activity described here. As a result, we show the need to create dialogic environments; the potential of the dialogic reading in the school space; the value of shared reading; recognition of each student's cultural intelligence; the highlight of the oral culture in the YAE and the breaking down of walls separating people with little schooling from the classical works.

The objective of this project is the poetry books Lamentação Floral (1946) and Sol Sem Tempo (1953), both by Pericles Eugênio da Silva Ramos (1919-1992), one of the mentor poets of the "Generation of 45" in Sao Paulo. This study aims to analyze the classic line that critics identify as predominant in these books. Criticism highlights him as an essentially Orphic poet. However, in addition to this classical reference, we can see that the poet also rescues others such as the oracular discourse, the Greek tragedy, the eroticism and the sublime Greeks. Such references appear dissolved in their poetry and with them the poet puts us in touch with broad aesthetic and ontological questions of the Greek universe as the conception of the cosmos as the struggle and combination of opposites. The classic line signaled a set of issues in common with the aesthetic assumptions of Surrealism, especially in relation to the need to return to the primitive world, so that man could learn to overcome the barrier between dream and reality, rescuing his creative spirit. In order to achieve this goal, Pericles recreates the Greek Orphic world and situates the reader in the condition of Orpheus, who confronts the original chaos and organizes it by creating cosmic units, whose essence is the construction of the surreal reality aimed at by the surrealists. From the perspective of the exploration of ontological questions, we detect that the poet rescues from the same Greek reference a conception of the dysphoric future, which is concretized in the conciliation of opposites, having as a goal the configuration of the present time, as a transitory unit. These conceptions help him to rethink his time, marked by the period between the two Great World Wars and the postwar period.

Constitutionalize the law or politicize the Constitution? Threats, risks and dangers in contemporary constitutionalism / ¿Constitucionalizar el derecho o politizar la Constitución?

Hernando Nieto, Eduardo 10 April 2018 (has links)
Since the beginning of modernity, the use of rhetoric have prevailed; that is, the technique of perverting the language giving concepts different meanings presuming nothing have changed when in fact, it has occurred. The same thing happens with the concept of Constitution, it has been completelymodified its sense from the progress of individual rights moral. In this article the intention is to demonstrate the nature of this change and at the same time claim on the «old constitutionalism» validity and also the rule of law and political will beginning on a critical reading of contemporary constitutionalism and considering its tendency to constitutionalize or materialize the law, ironically risking the same values intended to defend.

Propriedades magnéticas do Modelo de Hubbard Clássico / MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF HUBBARD MODEL CLASSIC.

Santos Filho, Adelino dos 19 July 2012 (has links)
In this work we obtain the magnetic and thermodynamic properties of the classical Hubbard model. This one is easier to handle than the original Hubbard model, and it maintains fundamental aspects like charge and particle-hole symmetry. We find the relationship between this and the Ising model. For square and simple cubic lattices, the thermodynamic properties and phase diagrams were calculated by Monte Carlo method. We show the behavior of internal energy, specific heat, and magnetic susceptibility as a function of the temperature. For the considered lattices, the ground state is anti-ferromagnetic. The Néel temperatures were found as a function of the electronic interaction in the case of half-filled band. In the limit of vanishing of diverging interaction, our results agree with the Ising model.
