Que ce soit à des fins spéculatives ou pour financer des conflits armés, une grande opacité entoure les filières des concentrés de matières premières minérales dont la demande ne cesse d'augmenter. Compte-tenu de l'éloignement entre les sites primaires d'extraction et les sites de production de produits finis, il est difficile d'identifier l'origine de ces produits. Dans un souci de traçabilité des concentrés, l'établissement d'une carte d'identité du minerai permettrait le contrôle des échanges dans l'industrie minérale. Le problème peut être posé en termes d'inversion: remonter au minerai d'origine en étudiant le produit vendu. Deux stades doivent être distingués: 1) la caractérisation du minerai brut et 2) la « perte de mémoire » des caractéristiques du tout-venant au cours du traitement minéralurgique. Les paramètres retenus sont la composition minéralogique, l'identification de microfaciès caractéristiques des minéraux cibles, la pseudo-succession paragénétique, le contenu et la distribution en éléments mineurs de minéraux cibles. Les minéraux cibles retenus sont la pyrite pour son ubiquité, la sphalérite car elle est susceptible d'incorporer une grande variété d'éléments mineurs, éventuellement valorisants ainsi que la chalcopyrite car elle est souvent liée aux deux autres minéraux. La comparaison de la composition chimique des phases minérales est effectuée en calculant la distance de Kolmogorov-Smirnov et de Colin-White. Des tests ont été réalisés sur les gîtes de type amas sulfuré volcanogène. Ils ont montré que les caractéristiques retenues permettaient de distinguer les pyrites, les sphalérites et les chalcopyrites de deux gisements de la province Sud-Ibérique (IPB), de sept gisements de la province d’Oural et du fumeur noir actuel de Rainbow. Les cartes d’identité obtenues permettent de discriminer les différents sites (IPB, Oural et Rainbow) et les gisements d’une même province. Les paramètres minéralogiques et microtexturaux ont également été suivis au cours du traitement minéralurgique de la mine de Neves Corvo. Pour une chaîne de traitement donnée, le paramètre « perte de mémoire » est une estimation de l'erreur commise lors de l'inversion, mais aussi une façon de caractériser une succession d'opérations minéralurgiques. / The demand in mineral resources is increasing rapidly, but there is a lack of transparency in the trade of concentrated raw mineral materials because of speculation and involvement in the financing of armed conflicts. Because of the distance between the primary extraction and the final production sites it is difficult to check the origin of such products. An identity card is required for minerals which would permit trading in the mineral industry to be verified and ensure traceability of concentrates. This problem may be considered as an inversion process: studying the products sold to identify the original ore. Two steps may be distinguished: 1) the characterization of the raw ore and 2) the “memory loss” of the crude ore characteristics during its mineral processing. The discriminant parameters are mineralogical composition, identification of textural microfacies of the target minerals, pseudo-paragenetic sequence, and the contents and distribution of minor elements of target minerals. The selected target minerals are pyrite, for its ubiquity, sphalerite for its ability to host numerous discriminant and potentially valuable minor elements in its lattice and chalcopyrite for its proximity with the two others minerals. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov distance and the Colin-White test are used to compare the chemical composition of the three target minerals. The application to Volcanic Massive Sulfide ore deposit showed that the selected characteristics permit to distinguish pyrite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite between two ore deposits in the Iberian Pyrite Belt province, seven ore deposits from the Urals province and a currently active Rainbow blacksmoker. From the established identity cards ore deposits from different provinces may be discriminated. Identity cards can also distinguish different deposits in the same province. Evolution of mineralogical and microtextural parameters was studied during the mineral processing of the Neves Corvo mine. For a given processing chain, the “memory loss” parameter is an estimate of the errors introduced in the inversion from concentrate to the original ore and can be used to characterize a given processing flow.

Débutant sa carrière durant les dernières années du règne de Louis XIV sous les auspices de Michel-Richard de Lalande, François Colin de Blamont se fait connaître dans les salons de la Régence par ses airs et ses cantates. Nommé Surintendant de la Musique de la Chambre du jeune Louis XV (1719), il devient l’un des acteurs déterminants de l’évolution des goûts et des pratiques musicales de la Cour. Dans la capitale, il est joué avec succès au Concert Spirituel, à l’Académie royale de musique et dans les cénacles en vue, souffrant toutefois de l’étoile montante de Jean-Philippe Rameau. Ses partitions témoignent de l’ambiguïté musicale française caractéristique du Siècle des Lumières, associant respect de la tradition et recherche de modernité. Ce travail propose de mettre en lumière la carrière et l’Œuvre de ce compositeur en les éclairant par le contexte historique, social et politique. La première partie fait le point sur la jeunesse, la formation et les premières productions de l’auteur. La deuxième partie est consacrée au service de la Cour. La troisième partie aborde le milieu musical parisien et les implications de Colin de Blamont dans les grandes institutions de la capitale. Enfin, la dernière partie tente de porter un regard neuf sur l’auteur, considéré tout à la fois comme homme de cour, esthète et musicien. / François Colin de Blamont started his career during the last years of the reign of Louis XIV under the aegis of Michel-Richard de Lalande. During the Regency, he was mostly known through his arias and cantatas. In 1719, he was appointed ‘Surintendant de la Musique de la Chambre’ of the young Louis XV. He became one of the main personalities involved in the evolution of the tastes and the musical practices at the Court. In Paris, his music was successfully played at the ‘Concert Spirituel’, at the ‘Académie royale de musique’ and in the most famous literary sets, even if the rising star of Jean-Philippe Rameau was to overshadow him. His style shows the musical ambiguity typical of French music of the 18th century, which associated the respect of the tradition with the aspiration to modernity. This study aims to bring to light the career and the works of this composer by considering them in their historical, social and political context. The first part sums up his youth, his training and his first works. The second part is devoted to his career at the Court. The third part explores the Parisian musical environment and the involvement of Colin de Blamont in the main institutions of the city. Finally, the last part will consider the author in a new way, as a man of court, as an esthete and as a musician.

Colin Maclaurin est un mathématicien écossais important dans la vie intellectuelle, sociale et politique de l'Écosse. Pour lui, l'évidence et la certitude des mathématiques justifient leur utilisation dans les autres champs du savoir. Nous montrons donc comment il les utilise en physique, en astronomie, en théologie, etc. De plus, nous montrons comment sa lecture des œuvres de Newton évolue et comment il passe d'un statut de disciple à celui de commentateur, puis à celui de chercheur aux conceptions propres. Enfin, l'étude globale de ses œuvres nous permet de dégager des lignes de forces dans sa production : une volonté de fondation, en particulier en algèbre et dans la méthode des fluxions, un usage fin et privilégié de la géométrie, et une application réciproque de la géométrie et de l'algèbre. Nous analysons de nombreux résultats nouveaux qui résultent de cette approche maclaurinienne des mathématiques.

In this thesis, I have analysed representations of a selection of fictional and factual serial killers from Thomas de Quincey to Thomas Harris’s Hannibal Lecter, from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to the autobiographical narratives of real life serial killers Carl Panzram, Donald Gaskins and Ian Brady. My analysis of these texts identifies the portrayals of serial killers in terms of representations as aesthetic, existential, socially othered phenomena. The thesis proceeds from the premise that serial killer narratives often obscure the existential brute reality of murder. As such, I examine serial killing vis-à-vis attempted explanatory shifts in such narratives which represent serial murder and serial killers in terms of aesthetic, psychopathological, moral/religious/supernatural and socio-political phenomena, and I investigate the implications of these shifts. I focus initially on Romantic ideas of the self, and in the relationship between the ‘outsider’ artist/poet and the textual emergence of the figure of the solitary ‘serial’ murderer in the early nineteenth century, particularly in relation to De Quincey’s aesthetic murder essays. Subsequent fluctuations of the representation of serial killing between mental-health, law-and-order and political/social discourses are discussed in relation to the subsequent texts. I conclude by examining cognitive dissonance theory, A.E. Van Vogt’s description of the Violent Man, and James Gilligan’s theories on violence, in order to propose a possible synergetic response to narratives and representations of serial killers and serial killing.

From introduction: In the sixth book of The Faerie Qveene, the reader is presented with a vision of the Graces and their attendants dancing on Mount Acidale to the piping of a simple shepherd. Spenser identifies this favoured musician as Colin Clout and then goes on to pose a seemingly inconsequential rhetorical question. "Who knowes not Colin Cloute?” he asks. The note of confident pride which can be discerned in the query clearly reveals Spenser's peculiar interest in one of his most intriguing creations. It is almost impossible to read a representative selection of Spenser's poetical works without noticing the hauntingly frequent appearances of his "Southerne shepheardes boye". Colin appears or is named in no fewer than six of Spenser's poems.

Neste estudo, procuramos avaliar a a??o end?gena e suprafisiol?gica do estr?geno sobre os d?ficits produzidos pela escopolamina (ESC) sobre a mem?ria aversiva de ratas em diferentes fases do ciclo estral em uma tarefa de esquiva discriminativa em labirinto em cruz elevado (ED-LCE). Foram utilizadas ratas Wistar, as quais passaram por sess?es de treino e teste em 3 experimentos: (I) Ratas em diferentes fases do ciclo receberam ESC (1 mg/kg i.p) ou salina 20 minutos pr?-treino; (II) Ratas em diestro (DIE) receberam o mesmo tratamento em (I) mais valerato de estradiol i.m (VE; 1 mg/kg) ou ?leo de gergelim (VEH) 45 minutos pr?-treino; (III) Ratas em DIE receberam o mesmo tratamento em (I), mais VE ou VEH p?s-treino. A sess?o de teste foi realizada 24 horas ap?s a sess?o de treino em todos os experimentos. Os principais resultados mostraram que: (1) ESC induziu amn?sia, comportamento ansiol?tico e aumento da atividade motora em todos os experimentos e (2) prejudicou a aquisi??o da tarefa apenas para os animais em DIE; (3) o VE preveniu o preju?zo na aquisi??o induzido pela ESC e (4) alterou o processo de consolida??o da mem?ria, comprometendo ainda mais a evoca??o da tarefa quando administrado p?s-treino. This study examines two marketing campaigns on the social media platform Twitter by the brand Nike, with the campaigns involving American football player Colin Kaepernick and tennis player Serena Williams respectively. The study specifically explores how Nike utilizes socially and politically progressive values in these marketing   campaigns and how users then respond to it on Twitter, with the source material consisting of four Twitter-posts, two by Nike and one each by the two athletes involved, as well as the replies by other Twitter-users to those posts. The replies to these four Twitter-posts were then sorted into reply types for each post, in other words categorized according to the sentiments and attitudes in the replies that were most prominently and frequently expressed. A grounded theory approach was used thereafter in order to apply relevant theoretical perspectives to the reply types and original posts, through which the source material was split into several analytical themes. The theoretical perspectives used in the analysis were Rosalind Gill’s postfeminist sensibility, Ron Von Burg and Paul E. Johnson’s writings on nostalgia as a critical perspective, Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe’s floating signifier concept, Eduardo Bonilla-Silva¨s racial grammar theory, Susan Cahn’s writings on female athlete stereotypes, and Lauren Copeland’s writings on postmaterialism. The analysis showed that Nike utilized socially progressive causes such as racial and gender equality in an individualistic way by conveying them through the identities of Williams and Kaepernick in their Twitter-posts. It also showed that the replies to the marketing in turn also focused on the identities of the athletes, with repliers either declaring their approval or disapproval of Nike and their marketing campaigns based on whether they were ethically and ideologically aligned with the progressive causes and values that the athletes were proxies for in their respective marketing campaigns. Ultimately, this study revealed an individualization of political expression on social media, both when a corporation like Nike uses it to improve their brand image and in how individuals engage with political and social issues.

The phenomenon of strategic culture and its influence on the state behaviour has penetrated the theories of international relations only recently. The same stands for unmanned aerial vehicles. The aim of this thesis is to examine how does the United States deploy their UAVs to fight Al-Qaeda in its save heavens located in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. To be specific my intention is to determine what does in this sense the behavior of Obama's administration mean in the context of the U.S. strategic culture. The main research tools utilized in this thesis are discourse analysis and Colin Gray's model of strategic culture. In the public discourse consisting of speeches and comments made by political and military representatives I have identified all the four strategic culture variables set out in the theoretical part of the work. Moreover, the public discourse around drone deployment contains several intriguing metaphors and symbols. Furthermore, the contribution of this work is that it deals with the issue of UAV deployment within the scope of strategic culture.
