Komunitní centrum v centru / Community Center in the CentreKrajčovičová, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
During the 70s Povazska Bystrica city has completely changed their entire downtown. When the proposal was envisaged to reserve 30 percent of the area from which it has over the years become parking places. This city center , without historical buildings with compactly closed square is certainly an interesting subject of sociological inquiry. What is missing in this zone are mainly related to leisure activities , facilities for mothers with small children , gallery , sports center , museum of Povazske strojarne . All these functions , I tried to include in my concept of urban strategies , from which I chose to further develop the community center building . That in itself contains a gallery , bistro , maternity center , multipurpose hall and two large spaces for the development of musical activities and creative abilities . Surrounding buildings are only with a flat roof , mainly cubic , and therefore I chose this also this very similar and simple shape. Form responds to the idea of the conclusion of the square , but their scale and the overall shape corresponds with the environment and communicate directly with him . Height of the building is in equilibrium with the surrounding building heights , four classic levels . The proposed building is from the eastern part , where the transition between buildings is designed after the original road from the church , the entrance to the maternity center is situated near the indoor playground snd the semi-opened atrium.Artistic and material solution responds to the urban environment in which the building is planted . Whereas in its vicinity is the amount of greenery with which is in direct contact (park , river with green stripe) and that is why I chose the color of the facade , which would be in contrast with greenery , but also square tiles . I chose pale pigmented precast concrete elements which, artistically revived facade and completed as well as the layout of windows and doors . Windows and doors have been designed with regard to the function rooms , as well as their breakdown, as some of them , such as entrance hall , extending over two floors , on the other hand , some classrooms respectively interest rooms have a mezzanine section . Complement the interior color shades that are not only functional but also aesthetic element , as are color differentiated by function of room . The building is designed as wall system combined with columns and materials , in turn, is a concrete and reinforced concrete .

Sandviken’s House of the People, An oasis in the waters of MälarenHesselstrand, Sofia January 2021 (has links)
I have during my thesis explored how the countryside of Stockholm can be made more accessible and how a building can be inviting in a community resisting change. The new intervention is to be seen as a resource for the community but also as an attraction for tourism. I have combined distance work with logistics and recreation in the form of bathing and sauna to strengthen the existing qualities of the countryside. A ferry line would solve problems that exist in Sandviken, such as waste of resources when it comes to the amount of cars per household and time spent in cars on the way to work/school. A ferry would present an alternative commute where you would be offered beautiful scenery on Mälaren where you can work and socialize on your way to work. To motivate a ferry line it would also be combined with logistics in the form of products such as groceries and other online shopping. It would also make Sandviken accessible for exports if a production company would like to station in the nearby surroundings.

Building Hope: A Community + Water Initiative, La Villa de San Francisco, HondurasMansfield, Christopher D 13 July 2016 (has links) (PDF)
It is my contention that through activating participatory design and community engagement strategies, in conjunction with innovative construction methods that address issues of resource scarcity, the standard of living and level of accessibility to critical resources in impoverished portions of Honduras can be drastically improved. The newly provided model of construction can be done it such a way that it is cost effective in its building method, and provides highly sought after scarce critical resources. This allows participants to allocate more of their finances towards other necessary resources they normally would not be able to acquire.
A new community center designed to address the issues of resource scarcity and job opportunities will stand as a first built model with the intent that the methods of construction and innovations employed will be replicated in further applications. The center will be innovative in its construction in such a way that it recognizes local building practices, and brings some new ideas to them allowing for a method of construction that is both improved and more affordable. The center will also take a fresh look at ways the community can address issues of food and water through architectural innovations. The intent is that the success of the center’s combined interventions will encourage local people to replicate the design ideas in their own residential applications. This will improve the quantity of resources available in the community and also start to build a new job market for installing the newly desirable systems.
Resource scarcity has wreaked havoc on the typical Honduran villages’ sense of community. Hondurans are in constant competition with their neighbors for scarce critical resources required to sustain life. These resources include, food, water, shelter, and employment opportunities. Violent conflict often arises within communities as individuals compete with their neighbors for the basic necessities required to sustain life.
While architecture alone cannot solve all the issues that contribute to the problem of violence, a new center with a program that builds community and provides needed resources stands to potentially curb neighborhood conflict and begin the community healing process. The center stands as not only a replicable model, but also as an immediate community element to bring neighbors back together physically in daily interactions and emotionally in the new resources being provided.

Nová synagoga Frýdek-Místek / The new synagogue in Frýdek-MístekHanousek, Ondřej January 2021 (has links)
The thesis deals with a hypothetical project of a new building complex of a synagogue, a kosher restaurant and a community centre at the location of the former synagogue in Frýdek. The proposal includes a memorial of the destroyed synagogue and Jewish community, as well as the incorporation of the complex into the urban structure of the city. The project proposes a building distributed into three volumes. The restaurant and community centre are connected by an underground garage within a U-shaped floor plan. The buildings are axially symmetrical, white, with expressive rhythmical perforations of the facade. They surround the building of the synagogue in the shape of a seven-sided pyramid, which is clad with blue tempered steel and creates a strong contrast with the associated buildings. The whole complex is oriented towards the park and the chateau in Frýdek, from which it is clearly visible and thanks to its distinct volumetric and material expression and axially symmetrical composition creates a new landmark for the city.

Nová synagoga Frýdek-Místek / The new synagogue in Frýdek-MístekVečeřová, Pavla January 2021 (has links)
The assignment of the diploma thesis was the elaboration of an architectural study of a new synagogue in the Frýdek-Místek. The solved area includes the original lands of the Jewish community, on which stood a synagogue, a Jewish school and a rabbinate. The synagogue was burned down in 1939 and currently only the rebuilt Jewish school building is located in the area. The main idea of the design is to build a memorial on the site of the original synagogue and a new synagogue with an adjoining community centre. The main goal is to support the development of the Jewish community in the city and to remind citizens and visitors of the history, because of which the Jewish community in Frýdek-Místek disappeared. In contrast to the monument, the entire building is set in the terrain so that the terrain passes freely in a public space with the main entrance to the community centre and a kosher restaurant. The building opens up to the south side of the slope and offers a view of the historic city centre of Frýdek. The area is connected by a footbridge to the park under the castle. Part of the community centre is a space for a ritual bath - Mikveh, the administration of the Jewish community and a multifunctional hall, which can be opened to the area in front of the residential staircase. The area is separated from Revoluční Street by a retaining wall and thus form an attractive place to spend time near the historic centre.
