Lyf [TAAL] Sport + Development

Van Wyk, Johannes Francois 27 November 2012 (has links)
This project is a response to the author's passion for sport and his curiosity about the architectural process that is necessary to understand and facilitate the inter-relation of body, mind and soul. The potential influence of physical exercise; its correlation with the metaphysical aspects of the individual and how its influence spills over into the larger context of society is investigated. This dissertation attempts to form an architectural response that is indigenous to the local population, the climate and the existing urban condition and ranges from a thorough understanding of the community to the effective contribution that architecture can offer, based on the concept of ‘Sport for Development’ programmes in South Africa. The primary objective of the architectural response is to amplify the potential of sport as a means to peace building and self-actualization within a society that suffers from the effects of crime and violence. Although popular culture believes in the positive potential of sport, Ramon Spaaij identifies factors and conditions that must be met if the positive value of sport is to be enjoyed. The dissertation incorporates these factors and conditions into a multipurpose 'Sport for Development' community complex. This complex aims to augment the existing sport for development programmes in South Africa and serve as a prototype for future sport for development centres that ultimately includes everyone in the process of reconciliation. / Dissertation (MArch(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Architecture / unrestricted

Moe, Johanna January 2022 (has links)
In 2018, residents in Björkhagen, south of Stockholm, started the association “Björkhagens Hjärta”. The lack of a communal space spurred their desire to develop a community center in a disused abandoned and demolition-threatened local heating plant, the property “Åskvädret 2”. In a Google-search for local heating plants in Stockholm, it became apparent that many others in the area are in a similar situation. These buildings served their purpose in the 1960s and 70s, after the transition to district heating, however, they were left empty or rented out to businesses on short and temporary contracts. As the land where these plants are located has become more valuable and municipalities need land for housing, there is often a threat of demolition linked to these buildings. In my master's thesis I investigate specifically the heating plant Åskvädret 2 as a possible community centre for residents in the Björkhagen area, additionally I speculate further whether the strategies I test could be used to develop and create similar spaces in other disused heating plats. The large scale and industrial character of these spaces, often located centrally in residential areas, was recognized as a potential that I became curious to explore. What happens if we start off with something that already exsist and adapt activities and architectural additions based on that? By using minimal funds to change and manage the material that already exists and has existed on the site, the project wants to include both social and ecological sustainability with the goal of reactivating the city's space for democracy. Today we see an urban planning that focuses mostly on maximizing the number of square meters of living space. We need more housing, but where are the places for socializing, dance, play and debate?

Dynamo / Dynamo

Saveby, Arvid January 2022 (has links)
This project is based on the studies we made of Eskilstuna's countryside. Engines and mechanics are a recurring interest among the population in Eskilstuna. At the same time, petrol prices are becoming more expensive and the transition to electric power is starting to pick up speed, which is positive in many ways. Working with machines and vehicles is a part of the culture in the countryside. Today, however, this phenomenon is not seen as frequently as before. This is partly because today's cars and tools look different. Frankly, today's mechanics look different and use completely different tools. You do not need forearms that look like logs, or a plethora of different keys and tools, nor do you need to have that extreme habit of mechanics. Today it is also about computer skills and being technically savvy. We have an extremely high level of technology in our things. Computerisation has struck with full force. For better or worse. Our things have become safer and friendlier to our surroundings, but also more complicated. About a 15-minute drive west of Eskilstuna along road 230 is what in the 1960s was a farmhouse but which has been transformed into what today looks like a dump site for  scrap. A group of innovative car enthusiasts from Eskilstuna's countryside see here an opportunity to create a modern workshop to be able to build, repair and maintain electric cars and tools. At the same time, the building also contributes with premises that will support the local population in their everyday lives. The idea is that the building will function as an accelerator to handle the challenges that the transition to electric power entails with a focus on re-use and community, which will also be reflected in the building's simple but flexible structure.

Sociálně pedagogická pomoc lidem bez domova při jejich integraci do společnosti / Socio-educational assistance to the homeless in their integration to society

Nárožná, Barbora January 2020 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on socio-pedagogical means of assistance to the homeless which is provided by social facilities in the Czech Republic in the process of their reintegration. The goal of the thesis is to ascertain, describe and analyse the possibilities of socio-pedagogical assistance to the homeless. The thesis has theoretical-empirical character. In the theoretical part, I concentrate on the topic of homelessness, public housing, system of assistance for the homeless where I mention two approaches of supported living: Housing Ready and Housing First. Other topics include social difficulties and social reintegration of the homeless, social pedagogy and socio-pedagogical means of assistance to the homeless where social rehabilitation, community work and social entrepreneurship belong. The empirical part is devoted to a research. With the usage of semi-structured interviews, this research examines which means of socio-pedagogical assistance to the homeless are used in the process of their social reintegration and how both parties reflect on its usefulness. The interviews were carried out by the clients of the facilities offering socio- pedagogical assistance and the workers who offer this assistance to them. The main findings include that on their reintegration, the homeless deal with a...

Nayapalli Pallavi : An Urban Village Development Project in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India / Nayapalli Pallavi : Ett hållbart stadsutvecklingsprojekt i Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Indien

Humble, Edith January 2014 (has links)
With a grant from Sida I went to Odisha, to learn about women’s local conditions and try to find out how a building could somehow ameliorate it. Through Architects Sans Frontières I got in touch with Urban and Development Resource Centre, working with upgrading slum areas. They had a budget for a new Community Centre in Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar, but no architect. The Community Centre includes a playschool, a medical centre and community meeting spaces. The building permit for this is currently with the municipality of Bhubaneswar. Today alcoholism is a major problem among the Nayapalli men. Most of them are unemployed and the young men lack alternatives. The women are the main providers for their families, working as house maids. My second proposal is a merely theoretical addition – a Launderette. It will not cure alcoholism, but it will employ a few people and give them possibility to support their families. It will relief some women from time-consuming hand wash and give them time to do something they find more interesting.  And maybe it can give some repute to the area, and make its community proud of it.

Welcome to the world!

Synková, Veronika Unknown Date (has links)
Childbirth as a natural part of life, where the woman giving birth has prime position and the option of choice. She should feel free and accepted - to be able to give birth physiologically (without unnecessary external interference). Physiological childbirth as the best for a woman, a baby and their relationship. Up to 80 % of women do not need a doctor to give birth, but only a "suitable environment". In my diploma thesis I propose a "maternity house". This concept is well-known abroad, in our country it is a new type of care. For this purpose, I use two existing houses, which are owned by the city of Blansko and stand next to the hospital.

Hevlín – sídlo v krajině / Hevlín – place in the landscape

Hajšmanová, Adéla Unknown Date (has links)
The thesis Uncharged-charged – new energy for the customs house building deals with a project of a community and cultural centre with an accommodation that reflects specific needs of the rural region on the borders. The core is a conversion of unused historical customs house building near the Hevlín–Laa an der Thaya border crossing to an attractive place serving especially the locals as a supportive environment for their activities. It also brings a new cultural options to the region. The layout adjusts the building to its new function and supports some of the qualities of the current state. There is a new building added as an accommodation for the tourists (especially cyclists and canoeists) travelling at the international cycle tracks or the river Dyje, which cross the location. Also there is a newly designed orchard/campsite surrounding the buildings serving for the accomodation as well.
