Application of Holomorphic Embedding to the Power-Flow Problem

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: With the power system being increasingly operated near its limits, there is an increasing need for a power-flow (PF) solution devoid of convergence issues. Traditional iterative methods are extremely initial-estimate dependent and not guaranteed to converge to the required solution. Holomorphic Embedding (HE) is a novel non-iterative procedure for solving the PF problem. While the theory behind a restricted version of the method is well rooted in complex analysis, holomorphic functions and algebraic curves, the practical implementation of the method requires going beyond the published details and involves numerical issues related to Taylor's series expansion, Padé approximants, convolution and solving linear matrix equations. The HE power flow was developed by a non-electrical engineer with language that is foreign to most engineers. One purpose of this document to describe the approach using electric-power engineering parlance and provide an understanding rooted in electric power concepts. This understanding of the methodology is gained by applying the approach to a two-bus dc PF problem and then gradually from moving from this simple two-bus dc PF problem to the general ac PF case. Software to implement the HE method was developed using MATLAB and numerical tests were carried out on small and medium sized systems to validate the approach. Implementation of different analytic continuation techniques is included and their relevance in applications such as evaluating the voltage solution and estimating the bifurcation point (BP) is discussed. The ability of the HE method to trace the PV curve of the system is identified. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Electrical Engineering 2014

Propriedades de continuação única para soluções de equações de Schrödinger com ponto de interação / Unique continuation properties for solutions of Schrödinger equations with point interaction

Hector Jose Cabarcas Urriola 17 August 2015 (has links)
In this work, we study unique continuation properties for solutions of the Schrödinger equations with an point interaction centered at $x=0$, \\begin\\label \\partial_tu=i(\\Delta_Z+V)u, \\end where $V=V(x,t)$ is real value function and $-\\Delta_Z$ is the operator formally written \\[-\\Delta_Z=-\\frac\\frac{d^2}{dx^2}+Z\\delta_0,\\] and $\\delta_0$ is Dirac\'s delta centered at zero and $Z$ is a real number. Next, we use these results in order to study the possible profile of the concentration of blow up solutions for the non linear Schrödinger equation with a point interaction at $x=0$, \\[\\partial_tu=i(\\Delta_Zu+|u|^u),\\] with $ho>5$. Besides, we show that the equation above has non trivial solutions for some conditions on the time dependent potencial $V$.

Monte Carlo Methods for Stochastic Differential Equations and their Applications

Leach, Andrew Bradford, Leach, Andrew Bradford January 2017 (has links)
We introduce computationally efficient Monte Carlo methods for studying the statistics of stochastic differential equations in two distinct settings. In the first, we derive importance sampling methods for data assimilation when the noise in the model and observations are small. The methods are formulated in discrete time, where the "posterior" distribution we want to sample from can be analyzed in an accessible small noise expansion. We show that a "symmetrization" procedure akin to antithetic coupling can improve the order of accuracy of the sampling methods, which is illustrated with numerical examples. In the second setting, we develop "stochastic continuation" methods to estimate level sets for statistics of stochastic differential equations with respect to their parameters. We adapt Keller's Pseudo-Arclength continuation method to this setting using stochastic approximation, and generalized least squares regression. Furthermore, we show that the methods can be improved through the use of coupling methods to reduce the variance of the derivative estimates that are involved.

[en] COMMITMENT AND SWITCHING INTENTIONS: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CONSUMER AND THE BRAND / [pt] COMPROMETIMENTO E INTENÇÃO DE TROCA: O CONSUMIDOR E A MARCA

JULIANA WERNECK RODRIGUES 20 August 2012 (has links)
[en] The study aims to test and analyze hypotheses related to the consumer commitment to the brand / product. Based on an construct analysis related to the consumer commitment identified in the literature, the study aims to evaluate their relationship with the final intention of brand switching, seeking to identify significant effects between these constructs. The literature review presents and discusses a range of models and analyzes according to the study by Bansal, Irving, and Taylor (2004) and also addresses the proposed two-dimensional model of commitment, previously suggested by Meyer and Allen in their studies in the decade of 90. Through a survey, a sample was collected from 201 consumers of mobile telephony services, all smartphones users and residents of Rio de Janeiro. Data analysis and testing of the proposed hypotheses was performed using structural equation modeling, with the ratios evaluated by defining a twodimensional model of commitment, addressing relationships and instrumental. It has been proven in hypotheses test the conclusions once discussed in the literature: in fact, the antecedents: satisfaction, trust, alternative attractiveness and switching costs have direct effects on commitment types studied, which in turn have direct and negative effect on the switching intentions, explaining 59 per cent of final intention. The antecedents, when mediated by their commitments, also have an indirect effect on switching intention. The structural model proposed in this study illustrates these relationships and their significance when it comes to consumers and products. It should be noted, unlike the basic model of the study by Bansal, Irving, and Taylor (2004), the affective commitment was more strongly related to switching intention than the continuance commitment, but both showed good levels of significance, also present in other relationships.

A regularized stationary mean-field game

Yang, Xianjin 19 April 2016 (has links)
In the thesis, we discuss the existence and numerical approximations of solutions of a regularized mean-field game with a low-order regularization. In the first part, we prove a priori estimates and use the continuation method to obtain the existence of a solution with a positive density. Finally, we introduce the monotone flow method and solve the system numerically.

Obnovení likvidace (§ 208, 209 OZ) / Reinstatement of liquidation (ss. 208, 209 of the Civil Code)

Aulisa, Valentina January 2020 (has links)
Reinstatement of liquidation (ss. 208, 209 of the Civil Code) This diploma thesis deals with the legal regulation of the continuing and reinstated liquidation pursuant section 208 and 209 of Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the Civil Code. The continuing and reinstated liquidation are specific cases to which rather marginal attention is paid within the legal order. The aim of this thesis is to point out the essential aspects of this regulation and to solve some of the cases of doubt concerning them, as well as to outline the actual course of these institutes and the prerequisites that must arise for their implementation. The diploma thesis deals with the continuing and reinstated liquidation in two separate parts, which form the core of the thesis. In the individual chapters the legal conditions for the continuation and reinstatement of the liquidation are analysed, as well as the prerequisites that were, in relation to this regulation, specified in more detail or deduced only in the decisional practice of the courts. Particular attention is also paid to the nature and the requirements set out for the nature of the previously unknown property, the needs for other necessary measures and other interests worthy of legal protection, which are the essential reasons for carrying out a continuing or reinstated...

A Professional Profile of Culturally Responsive Continuation High School Principals

Wardrop, Benjamin Charles 01 April 2023 (has links) (PDF)
With more than 10% of all high school age students taking classes at a continuation school at some point in their high school career, this normally forgotten alternative learning environment is one that serves many of our most historically marginalized student groups: Black, Latinx, those with learning differences, and English Learners (Ruiz de Velasco et al., 2012). Leadership in schools is the difference-maker in student learning efficacy (Wahlstrom et al., 2010; Whitaker, 2020). This qualitative study was situated on the theoretical framework created by Madhlangobe and Gordon (2012), Culturally Responsive Leadership (CRL). The aim of this study was to build a professional profile of effective continuation school principals to help guide current practitioners, aid district leadership in identifying candidates best suited to lead their continuation schools, and how to train future leaders. Data was collected via interviews with nine principals of model continuation schools, the highest honor such a school can receive from the California Department of Education (2022a). Data showed that the study participants embodied many of the tenets set forth in CRL, but were not as strong in specific modeling and fostering cultural responsiveness in others. As described earlier, the opportunities for professional growth and collaboration across schools and principals is not well developed statewide. This area for growth is one of the most substantial opportunities the continuation school community has to improve professional practices and improve learning outcomes for all students across the state of California.

Quantification of stability of analytic continuation with applications to electromagnetic theory

Hovsepyan, Narek January 2021 (has links)
Analytic functions in a domain Ω are uniquely determined by their values on any curve Γ ⊂ Ω. We provide sharp quantitative version of this statement. Namely, let f be of order E on Γ relative to its global size in Ω (measured in some Hilbert space norm). How large can f be at a point z away from the curve? We give a sharp upper bound on |f(z)| in terms of a solution of a linear integral equation of Fredholm type and demonstrate that the bound behaves like a power law: E^γ(z). In special geometries, such as the upper halfplane, annulus or ellipse the integral equation can be solved explicitly, giving exact formulas for the optimal exponent γ(z). Our methods can be applied to non-Hilbertian settings as well. Further, we apply the developed theory to study the degree of reliability of extrapolation of the complex electromagentic permittivity function based on its analyticity properties. Given two analytic functions, representing extrapolants of the same experimental data, we quantify how much they can differ at an extrapolation point outside of the experimentally accessible frequency band.
