A arte retórica nos discursos do apóstolo Paulo. As estratégias de convencimento e persuasão frente à diversidade de auditórios / The rhetorical art in speeches of Paul the Apostle: the strategies of conviction and persuasion facing the diversity of audiences

Moisés Olimpio Ferreira 23 February 2012 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to present an analysis of the rethorical argumention schemes employed by Paul the Apostle in his epistles, namely: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians and Philemon. All inquiries made in them were based on Greek texts, which allowed, as much as possible, a greater closeness to the original speeches, always taking into account their production conditions, particularly in relation to the image-building of the speaker to the different audiences and the mechanisms of persuasion and conviction. The goals of this analysis are to contribute to the development of the studies of the indissociable hq= oj (ethos), paq, oj (pathos) e log, oj (logos), notions in their argumentative functions in ancient religious discourses, as well as to contribute to the increment of the reading rhetorical skills of this textual genre. Based on foundation theories such as Aristotle\'s Rhetoric and the New Rhetoric elaborated by Chaïm Perelman and his successors, the investigation of the corpus Paulinum highlights the discursive relationship between speaker and audience, as well the necessary adjustments and discursive strategies entailed by this association. In a complementary way and with the support from Semiotic theories, we also analyse the Pauline speeches recorded by Luke in Acts; a source that, although the most controversial issues targeted about the credibility of its contents, still maintains a relative degree of importance to this research because of the discursive reports that Paul would have done in his missionary journeys.

The study has been divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, we present the theoretical framework, exposing concepts, categories and methods of textual interpretation and discourse analysis. In the second chapter, we develop the exegesis of 1Cor 14,33b-35, collecting the data concerning the text and its context. In the third chapter, we analyze the discourse of 1Cor 14,33b-35 in relation to the corpus paulinum, as far as women's ministries are concerned, making use of the apostle s ideological-discursive formation. In the conclusion, we defend that, exegetically, 1Cor 14,33b-35 is not an authentic Pauline writing, but an interpolated gloss; discursively, we conclude that 1Cor 14,33 b-35 is controversial in relation to the authentic Pauline letters and that the corpus paulinum is a polyphonic dialogic genre in what it says about women s ministries. MILITÄRISCHE METAPHORIK IM CORPUS PAULINUM: EINE UNTERSUCHUNG ZU VORKOMMEN UND BEDEUTUNG / Military metaphor in the Corpus Paulinum : an investigation into its occurence and meaning

Nell, Mathias Werner 09 1900 (has links)
The study deals with military metaphors in the Corpus Paulinum with regard to their occurrence and significance. It turns out that the military speech and its scope of application in the Corpus Paulinum seems to evolve across all thirteen letters, which are analyzed in sequence according to their probable chronological order: if military motifs serve as comparative moments at first, they are increasingly used identically in the further course of the letter chronology. The use of military speeches in particular serves the purpose of creating and maintaining unity in the community on the basis of a common identity, and in order to understand and guide the community in a transcendent, eschatological struggle against Satan. The Gospel itself is contested, which also explains the missionary activity of Paul as a spiritual-military mission. As »real metaphors«, Paul's military metaphors can neither be replaced or dissolved without loss. / New Testament / M. Th. (New Testament)

Die Kreuzestheologie des Corpus Paulinum: Perspektiven aus dem Neuen Testament und aus der Wirkungsgeschichte / The Theology of the Cross in the Pauline Corpus: perspectives from the New Testament and from its reception

Burgi, Martin 11 1900 (has links)
Text in German with summaries in German and English / Die Kreuzestheologie erlebt seit Beginn des 20. / The “theology of the cross” has seen a remarkable come-back since the beginning of 20th century. While the various contributions share similar roots, they differ widely in their approaches and constructions. Therefore, the simple question regarding the nature of a theology of the cross has to be raised again. This study seeks answers in seven writings of the Corpus Paulinum, which will be examined for their use of references to Jesus’ death on the cross. Although these letters differ significantly in their use of crossrelated terminology, they consistently testify to the crucial significance of the cross of Jesus in their theological paradigm. Statements about the cross are always an essential ingredient in the argumentation of these letters. The exegetical survey leads to the conclusion that Pauline theology of the cross is an all-encompassing and critical approach and principle for Christian theology and ecclesial practice. Timotheus 2 / The meaning and hermeneutical implications of the references to the order of creation and the fall of Eve in 1 Timothy 2

Haslebacher, Christian 02 1900 (has links)
After general reflections on universal validity, and on the cultural and temporal set-ting of New Testament propositions, this study examines the prohibition on women teaching in Christian congregations in the context of the whole Biblical canon. From this perspective, 1 Timothy 2:12-14 offers a key role for the validity of women as leaders and teachers. Clues towards a correct understanding of 1 Timothy 2:12-14 are to be found in comparisons with references to Old Testament events and their par-ticular function in Pauline discourse, in reception of the order of creation and fall of Eve in early Judaism, and in the function of these references in the argument of 1 Timothy. Finally, 1 Timothy 2:12-14 is examined in view of its immediate context. The thesis concludes that, despite its reference to the order of creation and the fall of Eve, 1 Timothy 2:12-14 should not be understood as an absolute prohibition. / New Testament / M. Th.
