O ensino profissional técnico de nível médio no Brasil e no Chile - Convergências e divergências na formação profissional e no trabalho / The professional and technical teaching of high school level in Brasil and Chile - Convergences and divergences in professional development and in labor

Nelson Morato Pinto de Almeida 28 February 2011 (has links)
The aim of this work is to investigate the specific development required for technical school students applying for work in industrial maintenance in Brazil and Chile, identify its relationship with public educational policies and verify whether it provides the development of competencies and skills for professional performance in the industrial maintenance market. Based on the ideas of Druker, Senge, Enguita, Ferretti, Rifkin, Dowbor, Godim, Bridges, Saviani, Hargreaves, Valente, Castells, Singer, Harvey, among others, the theoretical basis of this research was established to support the analysis between the educational laws of each country, the field work with recruiters, job interviewers, and those who finish technical courses at high school level in both countries. Methodology development was based on qualitative research with emphasis on documental analysis using the official documents from Educational departments as data sources to build the steps of legislation-development goals, and on quantitative research that analyzed the field data collected with the labor recruiter to build the labor market goals. Coupled with these two goals, the field research also encompassed the students finishing technical courses at high school level. The answers gathered in this study indicate that governments are seeking to provide students development under the principles of competencies and skills in order to perform in the market of industrial maintenance labor. In the same way, students themselves claim such competencies and skills were achieved in the attended course, but the workforce recruiters doubt the applicants educational development meets the markets requirements. This incongruence in the answers shows there is a gap between educational development and the labor market, perhaps due to the delay in implementing educational actions to face this rapidly evolving market. Some important aspects raised from the conclusions: Brazil and Chile reveal different characteristics regarding the improvement of professional development oriented to industrial mechanics because, in Chile, a rigid, structured curricular frame was observed, whereas in Brazil there are indications of some flexibility and openness to allow access to those who did not go to Primary schools at the expected ages and went to adult education programs for their initial technical education. Such a fact is seen as a correction for a historic misconception of technical education, and a means to recover wasted time and try to achieve indicators that would bring the country to the same level as others.

Effects of Learning Communities on Community College Students' Success: A Meta-Analysis

Wurtz, Keith Allen 01 January 2014 (has links)
Low graduation rates are a significant issue for colleges. The majority of higher education institutions in the United States offer learning communities (LCs), which have been found to be effective for improving course success and persisting to the next semester. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding the effectiveness of LCs with different types of populations and different types of LCs. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to identify the most effective types of LCs. Research questions addressed the effects of different types of LCs on different student success outcomes for community colleges. The study was based on Tinto's interactionist model of student departure and Astin's model of student involvement. Studies examining the relationship between student success and participation in college LCs provided the data for the meta-analysis. A random effects model was used to generate the average effect size for 39 studies and 50 individual effect sizes. The results showed that LCs are most effective with community college students when they include additional support strategies, counseling is available to students, one of the linked courses is an academic skills course, at least one of the linked course is developmental, and the focus is on increasing course success or student engagement. The implications for positive social change suggest that LC programs implement two linked courses, include an academic skills course, focus on developmental courses, and provide access to a counselor and additional student support strategies. In addition, LC programs are most effective when the goals of the program are student engagement and course success.

Problematika výuky anglického jazyka v pomaturitním studiu / Teaching methods in post-secondary-school English courses

Opluštilová, Žaneta January 2012 (has links)
The objective of the thesis was twofold. Firstly, to map the situation in one-year post- secondary courses of English organised by private language schools in the Czech Republic and to recommend teaching methods and materials suitable for the given age group and the aims of the courses. Secondly, to outline the legislation regulating this form of study and in view of the recent legislative changes to compile a set of arguments for preserving the student status for the course participants. The first part of the thesis summarizes the lingvodidactic principles of teaching English as a foreign language with respect to the specific characteristics of learners between 19 and 22 years of age. It also presents a brief overview of the historical development of teaching methods as a background to the methodology applicable to post-secondary courses and provides a basis for textbook evaluation and selection. In the empirical part of the thesis the organization of post-secondary courses at three private language schools was contrasted and two sets of questionnaires completed by their students were analysed. Based on the conclusions drawn in the theoretical background as well as on the output of the questionnaires the contemporary approach of principled eclecticism was recommended as the most suitable...

Sonia Pires Duprat 28 March 1989 (has links)
This research, of the case-study type, aims at showing that the expansion of the educational opportunities in relation to the teaching in the High School Courses did not mean a democratization of this school insofar as the teacher, coherent to the conservative model existing in the society we live in, develops his evaluation practice guided by criteria which characterize the domesticating evaluation system. Taking as a basis some concepts proper to the field of evaluation, present in the legal documents and in the texts of some authors, specially in those of Luckesis, we make a description and a contextualization of the practice of the teachers of two classes of the tenth grade of an official school one a day-time class, the other a night-school class when we try to explicit the contradictions present in the daily routine of this school concerning the practice of evaluation. We conclude that the teachers diverting their practice from the theoretical contextualization on the process of evaluation priorize the classificatory function in detriment to the function of diagnosis whose objective is to foster the advancement and growth of the student. We point out the need to propose to the teachers the study and reformulation of some evaluation aspects specially those connected with the selection of the knowledge to be transmitted to the students and the proper essence of the evaluation process. This would mean transferring the access to the teaching of the High School Course in the real access to learnings which are socially significative.

We used as a research method discursive textual analysis aimed at fragmenting documents examined in units of analysis, relations between units in the categorization process and build a new text that presents the new understandings of the phenomenon studied. We question whether, in the documents, the relationships and interactions established enable or provide a training that includes the current guidelines for teacher training. Identified positivist conceptions about the vision of science, lack of clarity regarding the professional profile to be formed and found the identity crisis of the university when you try to justify their actions relating to the needs of the labor market. We analyze the contradictions in relation to issues of interdisciplinarity, training by research and through use of information technology and communication. We study in detail the PPC in Chemistry Teachers Training Courses, re-designed our views and we give as a subject/researcher/teacher in a process of continuing education teacher's own trainer. This change enabled us to participate in the drafting of a new PPC seeking help to produce a document that had minimized the contradictions perceived by us on other PPC. We therefore propose that the conscious participation in the construction and preparation of PPC requires the understanding of the intentions of which are governed these documents constituted as drivers of the paths chosen for the implementation of the pedagogical and identity of a stroke / Com o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa buscamos investigar as relações e interações entre os elementos constituintes dos projetos pedagógicos de cursos (PPC) de Licenciatura em Química no estado de Goiás.

The formation of teachers is one of the greatest challenges imposed on the education, not only for the Mathematics; and it has been object of researches, studies and reflections for the researchers who intend to understand the initial and continuing professional development paths. Simultaneously, it is supported the idea that the initial formation process must give enough theoretical and practical knowledge so that the future teacher can work properly in the social context in which he or she is nested. Being a teacher requires being prepared to face different everyday situations and understanding its social context, besides contributing to the development of the students’ citizenship. Based on this, the following question arose: what contributions do the Human Science bring for the initial formation of the Mathematics teachers, and how do these contributions are realized on Licenciature classroom courses? The aim of this research is to understand how prepared the Mathematics graduated teachers are, discussing how the Human Science can contribute (as knowledge and courses area) for the qualification of the teacher. Therefore, investigations about the opinions and views of the coordinators, the professors who teach the last year of the graduation, and the almost graduated students of the Mathematics classroom course, in the west of Paraná, were made. This research is based on the theories of researchers who research the teacher’s formation, mainly the formation of the Mathematics teacher. It is also based on the legal principles that direct the teacher’s formation in Brazil; and has historical information about Human Science and its contributions for the human being. The qualitative and quantitative methods of researching are the ones present in this research, for the writing strategies and for analyzing the data. The orientations twhearte a brea simedp oinrt aBnatr fdoinr t(h2is0 1re1s),e tahricsh i,s t haels oM aa tdheomcuamtice nctoaul rrsees enaorrcmhs, i(tL aDnBa)ly, sthees Pthoeli tliacwals- Pedagogical Projects and the Curriculum Frameworks of the courses. For the field research, the coordinators and professors of the course answered a semi structured interview, and the students answered a questionnaire. The results obtained show that it is necessary to implement a new structure on this course, so it become possible to have Human Science contents implemented in the courses of the graduation and in the acting of the professors. Another result gotten is related to the dichotomy between the areas known as Pure Mathematic and Education Mathematic, what could be realized on the interviewees’ speech and can be found in the literature, a fact that seems to be kept year after year in the courses. In order to improve the current reality mentioned, we suggest to propose training the Mathematic teachers for a great and continuing formation, which includes a better humanized teaching of the Exact Science, using methodologies that allows to integrate and promote courses of specific subjects so that reflections about human relations, social relations and citizenship improvement can be taught together with. It would result on the development and improvement of the abilities the college students need in order to reflect about “being a teacher”, what aims to get prepared to work at the educational system, since our acting influence others and include responsibility and citizenship aspects on the process of teaching people of different generations.

The choice of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in blended learning methods and the functional value perceived by the students: a case study in an undergraduate course in Administration.

Valéria Feitosa de Moura 15 December 2017 (has links)
The rapid development of information technology brings opportunities for education, putting distance education and online learning as options for the traditional model of education, especially the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which in the context of the open education are presented as a means to increase access and quality of education, proportionate educational costs and inequality, especially in developing countries. The systematic review of 74 articles showed that HEIs are incorporating MOOCs into their practices. In part, by producing their own MOOCs, but also integrating them into their curricula, both to revise high school content with incoming higher education students and to improve their courses. Thus, considering that research evaluating the incorporation of MOOCs into The main objectives of this study were to understand how the MOOCs are being incorporated into undergraduate courses and what functional value students perceive in relation to this practice. For such, a systematic review of the literature and an exploratory and descriptive case study were carried out, integrating the qualitative and quantitative approaches. The unit of analysis of the case study was the Fundamentals of Administration discipline taught in the first year of the baccalaureate course in Administration and four sources of evidence were used: documents about the MOOC, documentation about the discipline that used the MOOC, interviews with teachers responsible for discipline and survey with the students. The evidence obtained in the documentary analysis and interviews were analyzed based on the research questions while the student lifting was based on the technique of statistical analysis modeling of structural equations using software R. The results of the study allowed to identify, that as suggested by the literature, the MOOC was used as an online resource in the blendedlearning method in an introductory discipline and replacing part of the classroom workload, making it possible to increase the number of students per teacher, in addition to making the course more attractive for the student. The MOOC was used as an online resource for content presentation, while the attachment exercises, assessments, and complementary activities were developed by teachers. The hypotheses proposed in the study were validated: perceived functional value has a positive effect (r = 0.801) on the intention to buy back (R2 = 64.15%), the quality perceived in relation to the blended learning process and perceived quality in relation to the MOOC have positive effects (r = 0.22 and r = 0.2929, respectively) on the functional value perceived by the student (R2 = 20.46%); (r = 0.2636 and R2 = 6.95%) and in relation to the MOOC (r = 0.347 and R 2 = 12), the preference and self-discipline for distance courses have a positive effect on the perceived quality of the blended learning process , 04%).It is concluded that the functional value perceived by the student is favorable, obtaining a score of 4.53 on a 7-point scale, and that this is influenced by the perceived quality in relation to the MOOC and in relation to the process of blended learning.
