Politicizing food in Quito : food sovereignty and the Canasta Comunitaria Ciudad Viva

Food sovereignty is a multi-faceted proposal for the politicization of the agro-food sector. Advocated by the international farmers’ movement, Vía Campesina, food sovereignty recognizes the importance of consumption while it focuses on production. By looking at the implementation of the food sovereignty proposal in Ecuador in the 2008 Constitution and on the legal level, the organizational level, and the level of individual consumers, I suggest approaches to consumers and consumption within the food sovereignty framework. In addition to discussing the ambiguity of the State’s position on food sovereignty, I show that social organizations working on food sovereignty tend to see consumers as self-centered, solely motivated by individual concerns about price and health, meaning that they are not seen as critical actors in the agro-food system. By focusing on members of the Canasta Comunitaria Ciudad Viva, a collective food purchase model in south Quito, I show that while consumers reproduce individualized logics that privilege health and savings, they also mobilize alternative, relational logics that should be the base for consumer-based articulation within the food sovereignty framework. These conclusions support the significance of seeing consumers as political actors as well as the importance of valuing the daily practices of urban inhabitants as the bases for the further politicization of consumption. La soberanía alimentaria es una propuesta multidimensional para la politización del sector agroalimentario. Desde la concepción de Vía Campesina, un movimiento internacional de agricultores, soberanía alimentaria reconoce la importancia del consumo, centrándose en la producción. A partir de analizar la aplicación de la propuesta de soberanía alimentaria en la Constitución de 2008, en el plano jurídico, en el trabajo de organizaciones sociales y al nivel de consumidores individuales en Quito, Ecuador, propongo una aproximación a los roles del consumo y los consumidores, en el marco de soberanía alimentaria. A la vez de indagar en la ambigüedad de la posición estatal frente al tema de soberanía alimentaria, muestro que la tendencia de las organizaciones sociales que trabajan el tema de soberanía alimentaria es ver a los consumidores como actores poco involucrados, centrados en sus beneficios particulares entorno a precios y salud, lo que significa que los consumidores no son percibidos como actores en si mismo. Al enfocarme en los miembros de la Canasta Comunitaria Ciudad Viva, un modelo de compra colectiva de alimentos en el sur de Quito, muestro que mientras los consumidores reproducen lógicas individuales de ahorro y de salud, también movilizan lógicas alternativas basadas en relaciones sociales y afectivas. Propongo que estas lógicas, presentes en los consumidores, deberían formar parte de las bases para una mayor inclusión y articulación de consumidores en el marco de soberanía alimentaria. A partir de este análisis se muestra la importancia de mirar a los consumidores como actores políticos y valorar las prácticas cotidianas de los habitantes urbanos como cimientos para la mayor politización del consumo. / text

婦女新知基金會女性志工之性別意識發展與日常生活實踐 / Gender consciousness and daily practice of female volunteers in the awakening foundation

本研究以婦女新知基金會作為個案研究的分析對象,在於其前身─婦女新知雜誌社於1982年成立,為台灣第一個女性主義雜誌社,也是發起台灣婦女運動的先驅者之ㄧ。婦女新知基金會多年來致力於推動性別法案的撰擬與修正,如:民法親屬編、兩性工作平等法和家事事件法等;因此,研究者認為有必要探究此一重要婦運團體中的女性志工,其性別意識的發展與實踐經驗為何,以助於日後研究者對於性別意識這個主題有較深入的了解。 研究重要性和預期貢獻主要有二:首先,由於婦女新知基金會在台灣婦運發展歷程中扮演相當重要的角色,因而欲了解此一組織對於成員的性別意識發展與實踐的影響為何,以提供多元、豐富的資料展現性別意識的課題。其次,欲探究個人實踐性別意識的可能困境,除了將研究焦點置於婦運團體女性志工的個人生命經驗之外,本研究透過志工性別意識實踐的情形,來了解成員性別意識與實踐間的關係,並將研究結果提供組織參考,以達到兩性平權的目標。 研究者採用質性取向的研究方法,以半結構式深度訪談法深入了解14位婦運團體女性志工之性別意識發展及其實踐經驗;藉由深度訪談探究及理解受訪者個人之感受、改變、他人的互動情形及受訪者對性別議題之看法。 研究發現主要如下:一、婦女新知基金會女性志工的性別意識狀態兼具意識和行動改變層面。二、受訪者過去的性別意識發展,包括在原生家庭中、求學過程中、婚姻(伴侶)生活中、社會經驗中的性別經驗,對其性別意識發展深具意義。三、從反思性別意識的論述、溝通以改善性別關係,到了解與接納爭議性的性別議題,這些都是新知姐妹們參加課程、活動與接線服務的經歷所帶來的改變,顯示在新知這個環境下,除了豐富她們的性別意識,也讓更了解性別差異和不平等。四、儘管新知女性志工性別意識有所發展,但實際上仍受限環境結構:家庭環境、周遭親友等因素都會造成個人行動者在實踐過程中的困難。 最後,研究者提出四點研究建議以提供婦女新知基金會之參考:ㄧ、增加性別必修課程之培訓時數;二、提升志工參與接線工作以外的新知相關活動之誘因;三、恢復定期舉辦性別相關的讀書會活動;四、邀請志工參與工作會議以增進彼此交流。 / The researcher took the Awakening Foundation as a case study because this foundation published the first feminist magazine in 1982 and was one of pioneers in Taiwan’s women’s movements. In recent years, workers in the Awakening Foundation have been dedicated themselves to amending gender equality act and laws, such as the Book of Family in the Civil Code, the Equal Employment Law, and the Family Affairs Law. Therefore, the researcher thinks it is significant to explore these female volunteers’ gender consciousness and daily practice, in order to help other researchers have a better understanding of this topic in the future. The importance of this study is as follows; first of all, since the Awakening Foundation plays a vital role in Taiwan’s women’s movements, the researcher attempts to discover how this organization influences its members’ gender consciousness, to provide gender issues with abundant data. In addition, the researcher would like to know difficulties female volunteers experience when they practice their gender consciousness in daily life. Furthermore, the focus is both stressed on personal experiences and structural relations, in order to offer the Awakening Foundation research findings for reference. Qualitative research method was adopted in this study, and the researcher used semi- structural interview to collect data of fourteen female volunteers’ gender consciousness and daily practice. Meanwhile, the researcher analyzed participants’ feeling, thoughts toward gender issues and relations in their families and daily life. Four main research results are presented. First, female volunteers’ gender consciousness consists of consciousness and action respectively. Second, participants’ past gender experiences, including their original families, school life, marriage, and social interaction, are meaningful to their gender consciousness. Third, after participating in the Civil Law Enquiry Hotline, courses, and activities held by the Awakening Foundation, female volunteers’ communication and views on gender relations are changed, and they gradually accepted critical gender issues. It illustrates the Awakening Foundation raises their gender consciousness and helps them understand gender difference. Forth, despite the development of their gender consciousness, female volunteers cope with a variety of difficulties in daily practice, such as structural factors. Finally, based on researching findings, the researcher suggests the Awakening Foundation to increase discussion hours of gender issues as required courses, to motivate volunteers’ incentives to engage in women’s movements, press conferences, and activities, to reset up a study group concerning gender equlity, and to invite volunteers to work conferences for exachanging both notions of gender issues.

In this way, the process of production and appropriation of such public space is related to the levels of sociability, even when there is a variety of users with different objectives. We discuss, in this academic paper, the use of the space know as Praça da Paz , in Bancários, one of the neighborhoods in the city of João Pessoa, in the State of Paraíba, aiming to analyze the construction of the mentioned square in that place and how often people use it building up the sense of sociability. The main problematic presented in this paper intends to show how important this public place is in producing social relations, in other words, the important role the square plays in establishing relations of sociability. The square constitutes, from its different uses and regular everyday practices, a contribution to produce a special meaning to this public space: the acquaintance. The text is organized in three different dimensions: the governmental planning of the squares directed to the progress and the beauty of the city in the first decades of the 20th century, offering a public space to the population; theorize the perception about public places as a social product, and map out the aspects involving the construction of the square from a participative management between government and citizens; highlight the importance of that space as a gathering place and social acquaintance leading to sociability. / O espaço público da Praça da Paz é analisado a partir da perspectiva de um fazer cotidiano, através de práticas, e do significado de pertencimento que os frequentadores adotaram. Nesse sentido, o processo de produção e apropriação desse espaço remete a níveis de sociabilidade, mesmo que diante da diversidade de seus usuários. Discutimos, nesta pesquisa, a Praça da Paz, no Bairro dos Bancários, município de João Pessoa, estado da Paraíba, visando pensar as propostas de sua construção naquele local e a visualização dos seus frequentadores, com a finalidade de perceber como ocorre a participação popular com vínculos de sociabilidade. O foco central de nossa problematização foi mostrar que esse espaço constitui peça fundamental na fabricação das relações sociais, ou seja, uma apropriação do espaço público que estabelece relações de sociabilidades. Devido aos seus usos e às práticas cotidianas, a praça contribui para dar significado a esse espaço público, o de pertencimento. O texto se organiza em três eixos: a ordenação das praças, com uma viabilidade de progresso e de embelezamento da capital da Parahyba, nas primeiras décadas do Século XX, como forma de atrair a população para frequentar os espaços públicos; pressupostos teóricos acerca da percepção sobre espaço público como produtor/produto social, com aspectos de construção da praça a partir de uma gestão participativa entre poder público e cidadão; e considerações sobre a importância desse espaço, como lócus de convívio, pertencimento e sociabilidade

The purpose of this research on the line Education and Art of the Master Graduate Education Program, Federal University of Santa Maria, is to analyze the construction of meanings through inputs from the field of Cyberculture by university lecturers / teachers of instrument. At the same time, to discuss the teaching of music technological context in contemporary society, showing the ways the bachelor university teachers in Music, UFRGS and UFSM, relate information technology and communication to their teaching practices, in order to investigate the consequences of these new technologies in the construction of meanings that emerge from their teaching practices. Further, to discuss the theme under the light of qualitative approach aimed at a broader understanding of the data, including the collection of information, reports, interviews, depositions, oral history, taken them as a whole, as a methodological tool for research. From the meanings constructed by researchers and collaborators, it is possible to think on a network, access, knowledge, as perspective of new possibilities and places for social actors in the music conservatory. This research may help teachers as a reference tool about the possible implications of cyberculture on the daily music education at college level. / Esta investigação, desenvolvida na linha de pesquisa Educação e Artes do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, tem como objetivo analisar a construção de significados relacionados a cibercultura por docentes universitários/professores de instrumento, problematizar o ensino de música no contexto tecnológico contemporâneo, pontuar de que maneira os docente universitários dos cursos de bacharelado em música da UFSM e da UFRGS relacionam-se com as tecnologias de informação e comunicação em suas práticas docentes, investigando os reflexos desses novos meios tecnológicos na construção de significados da prática docente. Trabalha-se a abordagem qualitativa do tema objetivando um entendimento mais amplo dos dados. Por abranger a coleta de informações, relatos, entrevistas, depoimentos, a História Oral é tomada como ferramenta metodológica de investigação. A partir dos significados construídos cooperativamente entre pesquisador e colaboradores, é possível se pensar em rede, em acesso, em conhecimento, em novas possibilidades e lugares dos atores sociais no conservatório de música. Essa pesquisa poderá auxiliar professores de instrumento como uma referência a mais sobre as implicações da cibercultura no cotidiano do ensino superior de música.

閃現的城市地景與遊牧者:創意市集中的行動者 / Flashing urban landscape and nomads: actors in the creative bazaar

本研究以Michel de Certeau所說的日常實踐之視角出發,檢視了2010年以後創意市集的發展與變化,以及市集組織者和擺攤者的重要性。時序上以2010年作為活動的分界,創意市集的樣貌有了顯著的轉變,這除了反映台灣社會環境的時代變化外,同時也勾勒出在後工業城市之中的空間理性的展現。首先,本文從創意市集中,行動者之一的組織者開始談起,以台北與台南各自起家的創意市集——「邊緣人市集」和「手_手市集」為例,從中可以看到創意市集分化出不同的樣態,而這樣的變化使得創意市集變成一種工具、手段或媒介,並能以一種軟性的方式來達到其目的。接著,延續對創意市集中的行動者之討論,從市集擺攤者的面向切入,透過擺攤者跟他們販售物的關係中,我們得以一窺他們如何藉由其所販賣的商品來彰顯自身對於勞動的想像和生活的態度,並藉由創意市集和行動者,在面對難以撼動的社會環境與產業結構,我們能夠看到他們如何展現自身的能動性,並藉由其所學的技術與能力,試圖在結構限制下找尋新的可能。最後,將創意市集作為城市地景的角度分析,談及它所具有的特殊性和空間彈性、以及其美學特性之實踐。 / In the perspective of Michel de Certeau’s 'practices of everyday life', this study explores the development of creative bazaar (market) and highlights the importance of the organizers and vendors in the market after 2010. The significant changes of creative bazaar since 2010 have shown current social transformation and forms of spatial rationality of post-industrial cities in Taiwan. First, by taking two pioneer creative bazaars, “The Edge Man Market” and “Hand-in-hand Market”, as examples, it displays multiple modals of creative bazaar which are able to be considered as a soft approach for engendering urban community capacity and promoting socio-cultural events. Then, it turns to young vendors, examining how they express their imaginary for labor and life style through their relationships with the things they make and sale. In particular, in facing the challenge of hard social circumstance and rigid industrial structure, how do the organizers and vendors show their capability of business craftsmanship and cultural taste for beyond structural limits? Finally, this thesis aims to understand how creative bazaar can be adaptively and flexibly located in the urban landscape.

It is a qualitative research, based on the reflections and the description of the actions carried out within the school institution by the director herself, having as reference LIBÂNEO (2004), LÜCK (2008), who consider that the Dimensions of implementation involving democratic and participatory management, pedagogical management, management of administrative processes and management of people and teams, with a direct focus on promoting the learning and training of students with social quality, is the responsibility of the school director. The research describes how the investigated director assumes the responsibility of implementing the mentioned dimensions, skills and competencies established by the Education Department. To do so, it is necessary to present the factors that changed the functions of the school director and some reflections on democratic and participatory management, people management and their implications in the context of democratic management, finally presenting the strategies used by the director. / Esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar las estrategias utilizadas por la directora de la escuela para optimizar la ejecución de las dimensiones de Gestión Democrática y Participativa, Gestión de la Educación, Gestión de procesos administrativos y Gestión de Equipos y Personas, a las afueras de la escuela de la Red Estatal de Sao Paulo, con miras a la transformación de las prácticas educativas con el fin de ampliar y mejorar la calidad de la enseñanza, de acuerdo con la Resolución SE 56/2016. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, llevada a cabo por las reflexiones y la descripción de las acciones realizadas dentro de la institución escolar por la propia directora, con referencia LIBÂNEO (2004), LÜCK (2008),, que consideran que las dimensiones de aplicación que implican la gestión democrática y participativa, gestión de la educación, gestión de procesos administrativos y gestión de personas y equipos, con enfoque directo en la promoción del aprendizaje y la formación de los estudiantes con calidad social, es responsabilidad del director de la escuela. La investigación describe cómo la directora investigada asume la responsabilidad de poner en práctica estas dimensiones, las habilidades y las competencias establecidas por la Junta de Educación. Por lo tanto, se presentan los factores que alteran las funciones principales de la escuela y algunas reflexiones sobre la gestión democrática y participativa, gestión de personas y sus implicaciones en el contexto de la gestión democrática, presentando finalmente, las estrategias utilizadas por la directora, y se basan en las interrelaciones de las dimensiones de la gestión escolar para transformar la escuela en un espacio democrático de ejercicio de la ciudadanía, con el objetivo de una práctica exitosa en la gestión de una escuela pública y el compromiso con el aprendizaje significativo de los estudiantes. / Esta investigação tem como objetivo analisar as estratégias utilizadas pela diretora da escola para otimizar a implementação das dimensões escolares da Gestão Democrática e Participativa, Gestão Pedagógica, Gestão de Processos Administrativos e Gestão de Equipes e Pessoas, de uma escola de periferia da Rede Estadual de São Paulo, com vista às transformações das práticas educacionais, de modo a ampliar e melhorar a qualidade do ensino, conforme a Resolução SE 56/2016. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, realizada a partir das reflexões e da descrição das ações realizadas no interior da instituição escolar pela própria diretora, tendo como referência LIBÂNEO (2004), LÜCK (2008), os quais consideram que as dimensões de implementação que envolvem estas gestões, com foco direto na promoção da aprendizagem e formação dos alunos com qualidade social, é incumbência do diretor de escola. A pesquisa descreve como a diretora investigada assume a incumbência de implementar as referidas dimensões, as habilidades e competências estabelecidas pela Secretaria da Educação. Para tanto, apresentam-se os fatores que alteraram as funções do diretor de escola e algumas reflexões sobre a gestão democrática e participativa, gestão de pessoas e suas implicações no contexto da gestão democrática, apresentando finalmente, as estratégias utilizadas pela diretora, pautando-se nas inter-relações das dimensões da gestão escolar para transformar a escola num espaço democrático de exercício da cidadania, tendo como meta uma prática bem sucedida na gestão de uma escola pública e compromisso com a aprendizagem significativa dos alunos.
