Danish Certified Prosthetists and Orthotists’ experience of their intercultural competencies in the treatment of immigrants : A qualitative interview study

Jørgensen, Christina Louise, Schultz, Nynne Harrishøj January 2021 (has links)
Background: To be able to meet social harmony in a continuously globalizing world, intercultural competencies are important to possess as an individual. Thus, it is also important for Certified Prosthetists and Orthotists (CPOs) and other health care providers since they meet many diversities in connection to their work. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate Danish CPOs’ experience and perception of their intercultural competencies in the treatment of immigrants. Method: This study is a qualitative interview study using a phenomenological approach. Semi-structured interviews are used to collect the data from five CPOs working in Danish clinics. A content analysis, with an inductive approach, is used for the analysis. Findings: From the analysis of the participant interviews, seven sub-categories were found and further divided into three categories: Treatment, work environment, and development of competencies. These contribute to describe the main category and the aim of this study. Conclusion: The Danish CPOs, who participated in this study, experienced that they did not treat immigrants differently than non-immigrants. However, they experienced that some challenges could be connected to the treatment of immigrants, such as communication difficulties, but they all had a perception, that they used specific tools and strategies to accommodate these challenges. Furthermore, they all experienced that their intercultural competencies had improved with experience, but most of them were also interested in further development of their competencies.

Antikorupční strategie v Dánsku a ve Španělsku ve světle nových paradigmat veřejné správy / Anti-corruption strategies in Denmark and Spain in the light of the new paradigms in public administration

Chalupová, Petra January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the fight against corruption, both from theoretical and practical point of view. It focuses especially on anti-corruption in the public sector in Denmark and Spain. These two countries were chosen because of their non-conceptional position - they do not fit the thesis of economist Gary S. Becker that stipulates that there is a direct correlation between the size of public sector corruption and the potential level of corruption in the state. The work aims to find an element in the public sectors of both the above-mentioned countries, which are the cause of the Danish success and Spanish groping in this area. The hypothesis is that if a national integrity system of a state is optimally configured and combines appropriate instruments and institutions (preventive and repressive measures), then anti-corruption fight is effective and can lead to marginalization of the issue of systemic corruption. The paper then examines the impact of functions and balanced system of national integrity on the success of anti-corruption struggle within the state. The hypothesis then implies point of view on the fight against this phenomenon, namely the analysis of the problem in terms of public administration that forms the boundary between legal and economic science. Gaps in Refugee Protection: A Case Study on Denmark’s Implementation of Gender-Guidelines in the Asylum System

Okkels, Maya Kjærhauge January 2020 (has links)
In recent years, focus has been on asylum policies in the context of the growing numbers of asylum seekers arriving to Denmark but not much attention has been paid to the individual situations of women seeking asylum in Denmark. This thesis presents a case study on the Danish asylum system that has been analyzed using a comparative legal analysis, examining what international legal norms Denmark has implemented into the asylum system in practice. Using critical frame analysis, dominant frames and underlying narratives were identified in asylum practices, demonstrating the negative consequences female asylum seekers experience as a result. Although, great improvements have been made by Denmark, the analysis proved that there still exists gaps in the protection of women seeking asylum. This includes the recognition of gender-related grounds for asylum, gender-sensitive procedures in application assessment, and the gender responsive reception circumstances. Furthermore, this study concludes that Denmark still has steps to take to fully adopt gender-guidelines into practice, and that (non-) application of gender-guidelines and gender-sensitive approaches has negative consequences for women seeking asylum in Denmark.

Grönland och Folketinget : En postkolonial textanalys av grönländska och danska ledamöters uttalanden i Folketinget 1960-1962 / Greenland and Folketinget : A postcolonial text analysis of Greenlandic and Danish members of parliaments statements in Folketinget 1960-1962

Jönsson, Isak, Elmblad, Jonathan January 2022 (has links)
This is a study of Greenlandic and Danish members of parliament's statements in Folketinget between 1960-1962. The study aims to see in which matters the Greenlandic members presented their statements, as well as what can be discerned from the Greenlandic and Danish members’ statements about the formers possibilities to change Greenland’s political situation. The study will also examine the statements made from a postcolonial viewpoint to see if they overlap with the theory. The study shows that the statements made by both the Danish and Greenlandic members of Folketinget overlap with the postcolonial theory several times. Edward Said, Franz Fanon and Michel Foucoults theories can all be traced within their statements. Foremost, Homi Bhabha and what he described as colonial mimicry is found on several occasions. The Greenlandic members of Folketinget made staments in a variety of political areas, both about specific issues on Greenland itself as well as how to change the asymmetrical relationship between Greenland and Denmark. Their possibilities to alter Greenland’s political situation was greatly hindered seeing as the Greenlandic members of Folketinget could not partake on the same terms as their danish collegues. Greenland also lacked any real political power in foreign politics, and therefore any tangible political voice when negotiating international treaties.

The Postmigrant Author in the Danish Media : A Critical Discourse Analysis of the Danish Media’s Portrayal of the Postmigrant Author

Chihanne El Bahraoui Straagaard, Maria January 2023 (has links)
This study investigates the portrayal of three postmigrant authors in the Danish media. By critically analyzing 12 articles, the study explores the characteristic features of the media’s portrayal of the authors. The theoretical concepts postmigration and Nordic whiteness are applied to demonstrate how the 12 articles are portraying the three authors as non-white others. This portrayal is constructed by highlighting the authors non-white physical features and connecting them to the “ghetto”. This ultimately results in a migrantization of the authors and reproduces the “us” and “them” division, in the Danish postmigrant society. Thus, this study contributes to the academic research on postmigrant literature in Scandinavia by providing insights into the role of the media in relation to the literary trend of postmigrant literature. Further on, this thesis is a part of the academic tradition of critical whiteness studies in a Nordic context as well as in IMER studies.   Keywords: Postmigration literature, Denmark, media, whiteness, postmigrant authors

Scandinavian Mummies : Interpreting the preservative qualities of Danish Bronze Age Mounds / Skandinaviska Mumier : Tolkning av danska bronsåldershögars bevaringskvaliteter

Grönkvist, Ellinor January 2023 (has links)
This paper explores/investigates the circumstances around the unusual level of preservation of organic materials within certain mounds in Jutland, Denmark, as well as the scientific benefits of these findings. These mounds contain coffins made from oak-logs and within them mummies of different degree of preservation have been found. Five mounds have been selected to represent the find category: Borum Eshøj, Trindhøj, Storhøj in Egtved, Skrydstrupand Muldbjerg. These five have all become staples in their own right within Scandinavian Bronze Age Archaeology. Within this paper different interpretations of how these oak-log coffins and their contents have remained in their current state of preservation while other similar graves have not will be explored. In addition, different areas of research that have benefited from these findings will be highlighted.

The Ambiguity of Freedom in Politics : A Study of Danish Party Members' Perception of Freedom in Politics

Nellemann Sørensen, Christina January 2022 (has links)
The concept freedom is frequently used in political discussions without awareness of the multiple meanings it potentially contains. In order to act on today’s climate challenge, freedom has come to play an essential role as something we either have to sacrifice or insist on protecting. However, freedom is an abstract concept and may involve different perceptions among people - also in politics. Using qualitative interviews, this study finds multiple notionsof freedom among Danish party members across the political parties. The party members are identified to subscribe to two main perceptions: individual freedom and collective freedom. The analysis shows that freedom is not purely divisible by Isiah Berlin’s categories where thestate either interferes or refrains from interference, but rather that state interference can align with each of the two main perceptions. Whilst some of the party members subscribe solely to individual freedom, the majority are found to switch depending on if the political issue involves economic freedom or not. By comparing the party members’ varying positions on the political issues; climate, freedom of religion, and tax and social benefits, with the standpoint of their parties, it points towards a correlation between the notion of freedom and the political position. The findings indicate that we do not need a new perception of freedom to achieve the green transition. Instead, we must utilise the existence of different perceptions of freedom and devise a solution where individual freedom can align with the green transition.

Glimpses of World War II in Denmark: Memory and History in Frayn's Copenhagen and Sibbern's Resistance Scrapbook

Pinegar, Adriana 01 July 2015 (has links) (PDF)
The relationship between history and memory is long and complex. While some theorists argue that they are at odds with one another, this thesis explores the necessary relationship between the two. Using Michael Frayn's 1998 play, Copenhagen, and the scrapbook of a Danish police officer and resistance fighter during World War II, the author posits the central role of uncertainty in the negotiation of individual memory and history. The position of the observer or witness to history affects the way the past is remembered and recorded. Individual witnesses, even and perhaps especially where they stray from the accepted historical narrative, testify to something that would otherwise be lost: the nature of the event. The observer therefore plays an important role in interpreting the testimony according to its place in the flow of time.

History of the Danish Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1850-1964

Christensen, Marius Aldrid 01 January 1966 (has links) (PDF)
The "History of the Danish Mission, 1850-1964," gives a detailed account of the Mormon "beginnings" in Denmark and attempts to trace the development of a system of proselyting and its effect upon the lives of both missionaries and converts of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. No attempt has been made in this study to record chronological detail to any extensive degree. Rather, emphasis has been placed on "beginnings" and major historical developments. This study includes an examination of the Scandinavian and Danish Mission records, several missionary journals and all known printed material related to the Mormon Church in Denmark. The Historian's Office of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City is the chief source of information on the history of Mormon activity in Scandinavia. Most of the mission and emigration records have been assembled there. Two large manuscripts, "Scandinavian Mission General History" (1850-1920) and "Danish Mission General History" (1920 – the present), kept in several large loose-leaf folios, were most informative because they included many eye witness accounts taken from diaries, journals, letters, and newspapers. A manuscript history of "Church Emigration" provides a description of each organized emigrant company to 1869. Also the records of individual congregations and early Church periodicals were informative. The library of the Historian's Office, furthermore, has copies of all Mormon literature published in Danish--tracts, pamphlets, periodicals, and books. The Brigham Young University Library was also useful for its many books, diaries, and articles dealing with the Danish Mission. Because of the author's ability to read source material in the Danish language additional perspective was given to this study.

Danish Companies Dashboard: An Interactive, Geospatial Visualisation of Industries and Profit in Denmark

Hyrup, Tobias, Matthews, Pernille, Nguyen, David Nhan Thien, Kusnick, Jakob, Jänicke, Stefan 07 July 2022 (has links)
Profound knowledge of the business landscape is crucial for any company wanting to affect its position in the market. Whereas corresponding data is publicly available, visual interfaces that inform on the distribution of companies operating in different sectors are rare. To close the gap for the Danish market, we developed the Danish Company Dashboard (DCD), which uses the Danish Business Authority’s database on company data to visually explore how the different companies, grouped by industries, are geographically scattered across Denmark on a regional and municipality plane. Moreover, the study and the accompanying visualisations provide insights into how the profit of each industry and company differs throughout the regions and municipalities, thereby supporting strategic decision making tasks of industry stakeholders.
