A Study on Dental Implant Medical Quality of Dentists and Patients in Kaohsiung CityTsai, Cheng-Feng 28 August 2010 (has links)
Abstract
Dental implants can be a breakthrough in dental treatment. It has become an important index of the operation performance for the dental clinics. Patients¡¦ knowledge of dental implant medical quality is different from dentists¡¦ due to asymmetric information.
This study sample consists of two major groups: 200 patients and 20 dentists, recruited from 15 dental clinics providing services of dental implants in Kaohsiung city. The data was collected by a questionnaire and try to investigate the relationship between the baseline data , the knowledge and attitude of patients about dental implants. The purposes of this study is to identify the difference between patients and dentists about dental implant medical quality . Providing information for patients seeking dental implant care, and for dental implant marketing of dental clinics.
The results show that the willingness to accept dental implants is higher in patients well-educated and good oral hygiene . The most popular resources of getting dental implant information are from TV and their dentists. 74% of patients do not know the brand of their dental implants. 84.2% of patients would like to recommend dental implants with the reasons of their dental experiences and the trust of the dentists. The satisfaction rate of dental implant exceeds 70%. As for selecting dentists, medical skills, medical ethics, medical equipments and public praise are the more important factors. Male and young patients are more affected by objective factors; female patients take more consideration of their own feelings. However old patients more concern about interpersonal relationship. Highly-educated patients attach more importance of profession; Lowly-educated patients more care about the environment of the clinics.
About medical quality, the most important factors in dentists are medical skills and sterilization, followed by dentist-patients relationship. The first three in patients are medical skills, sterilization and specialist certification. Of all six common factors in patients and dentists, the most different factor is dentist-patient relationship. It shows obviously high in dentists, and it maybe due to the elevation of consumer¡¦s awareness in Taiwan.

Successful Strategies for Increased Dental Practice CompetitivenessEyster, William 01 January 2019 (has links)
The rapid expansion of dental service organizations (DSOs) continues to disrupt the traditional dental practice model and there was a 12.2% increase in DSOs between 2015 and 2016. Some solo and small group dental practice owners lack strategies to adapt their businesses to be successful in newly competitive markets including DSOs. Grounded in systems theory, the purpose of this qualitative multicase study was to explore strategies dental practice owners use to adapt their businesses to be successful in newly competitive markets. The participants included 3 solo and 2 small group dental practice owners in central Kentucky who demonstrated success in developing and leveraging strategies to be successful in newly competitive markets. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and company documents. A thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The 3 major themes identified were patient care and experience, patient and community relationships, and adaptation and innovation. The application of effective strategies identified in this study may have implications for positive social change by enabling dental practitioners to continue to provide access to outstanding dental care in the communities they serve. A second implication for positive social change is the potential economic benefits to the community through employing dentists and clinical staff, providing commerce to suppliers and business service providers, and tax contributions to the city, state, and U.S. federal government.

Kauno aukštųjų mokyklų studentų nuomonė apie odontologinių paslaugų prieinamumą / Kaunas Higher School Students’ Opinion on Dental Service AccessibilitySkersytė, Ingrida 05 June 2012 (has links)
Darbo tikslas. Ištirti Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universiteto, Kauno technologijos universiteto bei Vytauto Didžiojo universiteto studentų nuomonę apie odontologinių paslaugų prieinamumą.
Tyrimo metodika.
(74,9%). Vizitas pas odontologą trunka 31 – 60 min. (49,6%). Daugumos respondentų nuomone (70,3%), odontologų... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Aim of the Study. Surveying Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas Technology University and Vytautas Magnus University students’ opinion on dental service accessibility.
Survey methods. The selected at random B.A. students of three Kaunas universities took part in the survey. 360 questionnaire forms were given out to the students and 347 answers were received (96. 4%). Lithuanian University of Health Sciences students as well as Vytautas Magnus University students presented 33% of the answers and Kaunas Technology University – 34%. It was estimated how the answers depended on different university students, their sex and the type of dental surgery. The difference was considered important when p<0,05.
Results. In students’ opinion the dental service accessibility is good from organizational, financial and communicative point of view. 72.9 % of the students say they can not get to the doctor mainly due to their lack of time. Financial problems arise to almost the same number of students: rarely – 40%, often – 38%. The respondents estimated organizational accessibility quite well. Nearly a half of the surveyed (47.3%) go to private dental surgeries to have their teeth treated (52.2% in most cases). 73.2% of the respondents make appointments by telephone. 48.4% of the surveyed have to wait for 1-2 weeks to get an appointment and the majority (49%) are accepted at the appointed time, unless it is necessary to wait for up to 15 min. (74.9%). The visit at the dentist... [to full text]

Sociodemographic Factors and Health-Risk Behaviors Associated with Recent Utilization of Dental Services Among South-Central Appalachian AdolescentsDubasi, Hima Bindu, Johnson, Kiana Rachele, Dr. 12 April 2019 (has links)
Background: Oral health is crucial for overall health. Oral health care need is the most prevalent unmet health care need among children and adolescents in the United States. Youth characteristics and socio-demographic factors are known to influence dental health service utilization. While there have been studies listing the factors contributing to the oral health disparities in the Appalachian region, very few studies have inspected the risk behaviours of the youth and their association with dental health care utilization.
Methods: A structured questionnaire was administered to high school students in five counties of South-Central Appalachia. The survey included a question on a recent dental visit. The students provided information on socio-demographic characteristics and risk behaviours. Descriptive analysis was performed and the association between recent dental visit as the outcome variable and sociodemographic factors and health risk behaviours as independent variables were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. The analysis was performed using SAS 9.4.
Results:80.1% (N= 129) of the adolescents who had admitted to using tobacco products or electronic vapour products reported having visited the dentist in the past 12 months. 87.5% (N= 168) of the females and 80.3% (N=127) of the males reported having visited the dentist in the past 12 months and 81.43% (N=114) of the adolescents who received free or reduced lunch reported having visited the dentist in the past 12 months. Use of tobacco products was the only health risk behaviour significantly associated with dental visit in the past 12 months (p=0.04) after adjusting for covariates with OR=0.5 (95% C I:0.312 -1.01).
Conclusion: The findings suggest that health risk behaviours such as using tobacco products may be associated with dental health care utilization and future research should focus on adolescents with health-risk behaviours with the goal of identifying interventions for at-risk populations.

Aim of the study – to evaluate the quality of dental services for children from the parents’ point of view.
Methods. The anonymous questionnaire survey was performed among 280 parents of children visiting their pediatric dentists or orthodontists in four Kaunas public health care institutions. The research methodology used the questionnaire based upon SERVQUAL instrument. Two sets of questions, one relating to the respondents’ expectations, the other relating to the respondents’ perceptions of a particular aspect of service quality, comprised the questionnaire. The perceived gaps between expectations and perceptions were analysed regarding five service quality dimensions (tangibles, responsiveness, reliability, assurance, empathy). Likert-type scales were used for the evaluation of the examined characteristics. The statistical package SPSS version 11.0 for Windows was used to conduct data analysis.
Results. There was a statistically significant difference between the parents’ expectations (mean score 4,31±0,36) compared with their perceptions (mean score 3,86±0,46) of the dental service provided. The largest quality gap was observed in characteristic regarding reliability while the smallest gap concerned... [to full text]
