Kierkegaard. / This work aims to address the philosophical problem of the selv (self) as an opgave (task) in Søren A. Kierkegaard. It was thought of as an initial effort to collate six common misconceptions that we have found in the general theoretical treatment given to thistheme which we point out and avoid committing. To this end, we have considered three important interpretative dimensions - which fulfill our three specific objectives - in this subject treatment –, that are composed of the fundamental categories of the selv; the selv dimension given through its owndenial, that is, of despair; and the dimension given by the original triadic movement played by the selv to constitute itself. Each of which are addressed respectively in a specific chapter. This theme is centrally discussed in The Sickness Unto Death, 1849, but, as we shall present, these dimensions and constitutive categories have already been exposed in earlier works. The final product of this work reaches, from a three-pronged perspective, a broad setting of Kierkegaard’s great concern: the subjectively existing Individual who understands its own appropriation as a Task to be performed in existence.

The course will have some scales: (1) the chronological genesis of the category of despair; (2) the conceptual genesis of despair through notes -self, anguish, sin, subjectivity; (3) the category of despair in the Sickness Unto Death of 1849. The reason why Kierkegaard wrote so "swiftly" such a profound work, is that he had this subject, in his research agenda, since 1835, then at the age of 22. The themes of the nature and meaning of anguish and despair in relation to becoming the "self." The Sickness Unto Death is the "finish line" of the trajectory established by Kierkegaard for more than a decade, having despair as the fundamental clue of his anthropology / O eixo principal desse trabalho é investigar o processo da construção da categoria do Desespero em Kierkegaard, tendo como recorte, o período entre 1835 e 1849.

O desespero humano: Søren Kierkegaard e a clínica psicológica / The sickness unto death: Søren Kierkegaard and the clinical psychology. Master\'s degree dissertation

Margarido, Filipe Barbosa 09 June 2017 (has links)
We investigated the human suffering and its vicissitudes at the psychological clinic in Kierkegaards thought, specifically on the concept of despair. The goal is to analyze the paths that the psychologist possess to understand the mental phenomena and to relate them with the kierkegaardian philosophy, based on a qualitative research methodology. Since human suffering is a subjective phenomenon it acquires different semantics for each individual. Kierkegaard explores the suffering from the universality of the phenomenon of despair. In the book The sickness unto death, the author performs an structural analysis about the diversity of despair demonstrations that can be perceived in different persons in accordance with levels of consciousness that each possesses. Therefore, this research aims to articulate these knowledges to psychological clinic regarding what is revealed in the suffering. To this end, we note that the therapist needs to be based on an epistemology that embrace the mystery and unnameable of human condition as has been examined on Kierkegaards thought. This author has analyzed the despair in a philosophical and theological horizon. From the clinical perspective, we observe that the despair is found on a horizon of understanding established between patient and therapist during the psychological session

The Life Pattern of People with Spinal Cord Injury

Alligood, Ronald R., II 01 January 2006 (has links)
This aim of this study was to answer the research question: "What is the Life Pattern of the Person with Spinal Cord Injury?" The unitary appreciative inquiry design, which has conceptualized through Rogers' (1986) science of unitary human beings, provided an approach for understanding the phenomenon in the context of human wholeness. The data, obtained through the methodology of unitary appreciative inquiry, led to the development of individual synopses for each of the participants. Once the synopses were completed, a composite pattern profile was constructed by the researcher that was indicative of the life pattern of people with spinal cord injury. The participants in the study validated the synopsis and pattern profile as accurate representations of their experience with spinal cord injury. This qualitative study, which was comprised of eight people who had undergone a spinal cord injury more than two years prior to the study, discovered three shared pattern manifestations: depersonalization; loss; and hopelessness. Although each person within this inquiry had a very good physical outcome concerning their spinal cord injury, the participants were not pleased with their current state of being. The pattern of despair, which was validated by the participants, was manifested through the profound sense of depersonalization, loss, and hopelessness.

Nietzschean Nihilism And The Ways To Overcome It In Tom Murphy&#039 / s Plays &quot / bailegangaire&quot / And &quot / the Sanctuary Lamp&quot

Yilmaz, Victoria Bilge 01 July 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Nietzschean epistemology involved many subversive elements and, thus, posed a challenge to the Christian epistemology and to other traditional frames of references which appeared after the Enlightenment. With his philosophy Nietzsche problematised many of the traditional givens like the master signifier (God), the other organising principles, and the traditional binary oppositions on which the Western metaphysics was based. He shattered the previous parameters of existence irraparably when he disconnected the individual from his/her illusions by laying bare a decentered universe devoid of any form of meaning, and the result was nihilism in the beginning. Interestingly enough, Nietzschean epistemology also offered ways to overcome this nihilistic stage in an individual&rsquo / s struggle for a meaningful existence. This thesis is based on the analysis of two plays by Tom Murphy, &ldquo / Bailegangaire&rdquo / and &ldquo / The Sanctuary Lamp&rdquo / , against the background of Nietzschean philosophy and attempts to discover the parallelisms between Murphy&rsquo / s characters and Nietzschean elements in their search for the essence of existence and their desire for a meaningful life. In the plays, self-realisation of an individual, that is, overcoming nihilism, is mainly achieved by means of art and one&rsquo / s individual strength, which is characterised by the ability to endure abyss, affirm life as it is, forget and forgive one&rsquo / s enemies, follow instincts, employ one&rsquo / s will to power, acquire the power and the position of God in one&rsquo / s personal zone, and combine destruction and creation. The playwright conveys an individual&rsquo / s loss of purpose and the inevitable chaos in the aftermath of the death of God and, also, the methods to surmount this nihilistic condition. The study comes to the conclusion that all the above Nietzschean elements build a solid background for Murphy&rsquo / s drama, where the dramatist draws a picture of systematicity of existence of an individual who struggles to attain meaning.

Hopelessness, quality of life, and HIV/AIDS risk taking behaviors among Ghanaian and Liberian youth / Risk taking behaviors

Decker, Matthew A. January 2006 (has links)
186 Ghanaian and 199 Liberian young adult students living in Ghana completed surveys regarding their sexual risk taking behaviors, as well as their knowledge about HIV, their current level of hopelessness, and their subjective quality of life. Results indicated that although knowledge levels were adequate, there was no connection between knowledge about HIV and past risk taking behaviors, including multiple sexual partners, and lack of safe sex practices. Results did indicate a connection between quality of life and the number of sexual partners, and a connection between hopelessness and lack of safe sex behaviors. The author concluded that HIV/STD prevention campaigns located in Ghana should include behavioral skills training in current preventative campaigns. / Department of Psychological Science

A DIALÉTICA DO DESESPERO EM KIERKEGAARD E SUA INFLUÊNCIA SOBRE O CONCEITO DE ALIENAÇÃO EM PAUL TILLICH / The dialectic of despair in Kierkegaard and his influence on the concept of alienation in Paul Tillich

No. of bitstreams: 1 EliasSilva.pdf: 783749 bytes, checksum: e3c6fdaeb988eb38e59adcec42b88439 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-06-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Their research sought to establish the relationship of influence of the philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard on the theological construction of Paul Tillich. Therefore, we use as background or argumentative structure the concept of human despair Kierkegaard, comparing it to the concept of Transfer of being Tillich. We objectify it, demonstrate the dialogical intertwining compound in the development of so-called doctrine of sin in both authors. That is, as the unfolding of Kierkegaards anthropology problematized the foundations of systematic theology, especially in the matter of harmatiologia, and how this same questioning, was able to standardize the modus operandi that led to the drafting done by Tillich on the same subject. Obviously, that in the course of this research, are not intended to disqualify or eliminate the originality of the authors, nor turn their arguments into a kind of conceptual amalgam. Thus, before a review is supposed to have brought an arbitrary fusion of ideas seek, once again pointing solutions dialectical and common centers, pointing to those elements of convergence, where in fact, dialogue is possible.
