Strategic Analysis of the Solar Cell Industry in Greater China

Chen, Hsiu-yen 16 August 2010 (has links)
To accommodate the crisis of global warming and fossil fuel shortage, the world starts to value continual development and application of all sorts of green energy. Among various renewable sources of energy, solar energy is distinct for its low pollution and renewability. Under the standard of zero harm to the environment and low-carbon emission, solar energy is deemed the new green energy to replace fossil fuel. Consequently, governments around the world, one after the other, invest in research and development, and make solar energy the highest potential energy industry in industrial development by means of governmental policy and subsidy. This research focuses on the development and current status of solar cell industry in Greater China and other developed countries, and sets out to identify the co-opetition of current solar energy development of solar cell industry in Greater China in light of analysis based on Michael Porter diamond model and industry life cycle with the secondary data gathered in relation to solar photovoltaic industry chain. This research discovers that, in recent years, the solar cell industry has phenomenon of hasty expansion, intensive competition, petty profit at the middle range of industry chain, and manufacture switching to regions with low production cost. It is suggested in this research that to combine strength of industrially connected parties, make the economic industry more open, create a win-win situation, and embrace the upcoming of low-carbon economy, a series of actions may be considered. They are (1) strategic alliance of vertical integration and division by profession, (2) enhance industrial technology communication and cooperation to solve problem of technology and manufacturer, (3) elaborate complementary strengths and optimize integration of industry chain, (4) combine with comprehensive policy and actuate the solar photovoltaic market of Greater China.

The development strategy of Multi-National Corp. in Taiwan & China by a special chemical company.

Hu, Ying-Chih 07 February 2006 (has links)
Due to the transformation of worldwide economy focus to Asia, many multinational corp. put resources to the eastern market, which is blooming very fast especially in Mainland China. By considering the potential hudge market, plenty of labor supply, and the future investments from the strategic point of view, so, a lot of MNCs aggressively invest in Asia & China directly in order to find the better position. But it seems that Taiwan is out of this great mass fervor. This research is based on a case study by a special chemical company. It contains the discussion of current investment projects among Asia and the interviews with many top managers. This analysis is according to Porter¡¦s diamond model, the influence of industry cluster, the organization & control model of MNC between the parent company and the subsidiary and the industry analysis, to see whether there are influences for the future developments of subsidiary in TW. Based on the result of intetrviews and the cross check with the theories, here are some conclusions. 1.There are some influences for the project selection and development strategy for the subsidiary based on the adopted organization especially for the relationship between parent ompany and the subsidiary and the control model. The subsidiary needs to have the visible exposure in the organization. It¡¦s better to have some internal speakers for the subsidiary to do the internal public relationship. 2.The key factors for considering about the investment are depending on industries. In chemical industry, the most important criteria are the cost & the source of raw materials, the market place and the quality of human resource not the cost of human resource. 3.In future, the Taiwaness industries could not compete with the others by mass productions. They need to differentiate themselves or to upgrade the ndustry. The strategy of the subsidiary of MNC in TW is also need to be adopted. 4.The working people in MNC TW need to compete with the others. They need to have the basic capability of communication, profession and the second speciality. Teamwork spirit and the enjoying in the work are welcomed. 5.The government has the responsibility to build up the fair and competitive investment environment to attract the foreign investment to form the industry clustries, in order to keep the growth force of economy.

Abstract Recently fishing industry in Taiwan is under hugely severe business environment. Due to distinctness of diplomatic situation, it is totally different competitive situation Taiwan is facing. Therefore, not only development of ultra-low-temp tuna fishing industry and managerial means and of international or regional incubate organization will be deeply described but also diamond model of Porter will be explored to analyze the competitive advantages of ultra-low-temp tuna fishing industry of Taiwan in the thesis. Definitely, the conclusion will used to develop practical plans for future severe situation. After well understanding literature about development of ultra-low-temp tuna fishing industry in Taiwan, I concluded the followings based on perspective of diamond model: 1. The first is that operations of Taiwan Tuna Association and cluster effects build the competitive advantages other countries are hard to get beyond. 2. Secondly, under relatively stable variation of tuna prices, the fishing boat owners are emphasizing on cost reduction in order to maintain business operations and get above average earnings. The ability of cost control is competitive advantage of fishing industry of Taiwan. Keywords: diamond model ,ultra-low-temp tuna fishing industry ,competitive advantage

Information Integration Experiment of Urban Marketing and Investment Introduction -- A Cognition Comparative Research of the Investment and Policy-making in the State/Private-run Facilities

Wang, Fong-Lan 26 July 2000 (has links)
This study aims to start from the individual perspective and concretize the Diamond Model issued in the Competitive Advantage of Nations by Porter in 1990, and discuss the interior cognitive structure of investment policy of the state/private-run facilities from the cognitive psychology by means of information integration. In the aspect of private-run facility, it is an integrated pattern for the general investors to encounter diverse investment information, while the discussion of the sympathetic pattern in the marketing and investment introduction of government for state-run facility. After dedicated himself for more than forty years in studying Information Integration Theory, IIT, Anderon, an American scholar, found that in integrating diverse information, people stick to the three major patterns of Adding, Multiplying and Averaging. It was also certified that IIT has a positive impact in the interior and exterior efficiency in measuring the subjective essentiality and toleration of different sorts of information. Statistic is applied to this study in analyzing its algebra pattern for understanding the essentiality and integration pattern of investment factors and comparing the policy-making difference in the investment of state & private-run facilities so as to make it a reference for this expects that the marketing division of enterprise style government can control the thread of area economic under limited conditions and established a long-term developing urban environment through the thinking method of sympathetic pattern.

Quantifiable research cluster effect: the diamond model

Liu, Chun-kuang 26 June 2009 (has links)
Micheal Porter ¡§the country competitive advantage which¡¨ publishes in 1990 (The Competitive Advantage of Nations) in a book, proposed the industrial cluster the strong character which acts in the national competitive power, ¡§scientific and technical park¡¨ the idea is also the industrial cluster concept derivation to a certain extent. In the past concentrated in the industrial cluster's research in the metropolis plan study and the regional economies domain, few had the management science stratification plane discussion, after 1990 Micheal Porter publication diamond model (Diamond Structure model), grew the industrial cluster's research to further management stratification plane in and so on enterprise's strategy, competition, market demand and industrial structure subjects. However, Porter in the diamond model, had not mentioned how to compare and appraise between the different cluster the cluster effect height, is also lacks a set to be possible the quantification model. In order to solve in the Porter diamond model to lack the quantification model the question, this research application analogism, quotes Newton (1687) the law of universal gravitation which proposed in "Natural philosophy's Mathematics Principle" to take the analogy, develops the cluster relative effect the comparison model, explained why during different essential factor in an industrial settlement's will have the cohesion phenomenon, will form the cluster effect finally. In this study, Central and Southern Taiwan Science Park's TFT-LCD industry as the research object, evaluation of these two science parks in the TFT-LCD industry cluster effect on the merits, to verify the model's feasibility in real life. In the final results, will be the evaluation of the scores of small movements do multiply, the two parks, the Southern Taiwan Science Park to obtain higher scores, it can be said that the Southern Taiwan Science Park, TFT-LCD industry cluster effect higher. By Porter in the diamond model's five big essential factor classification, in ¡§factor of conditions¡¨ and ¡§related and supporting industry¡¨ in these two essential factors, the Southern Taiwan Science Park was in the upper hand; In ¡§demand condition¡¨ and ¡§firm strategy, structure and rivalry¡¨ on, is the Central Taiwan Science Park holds the superiority; As for in last item ¡§government and opportunity¡¨ in the comparison, two campuses are equally matched. Finally, also at the Central Taiwan Science Park and Southern Taiwan Science Park development on the current problems faced by comment, I hope the next government as a policy planning in the industrial park on the proposal, which is newly developed in this study "cluster can be quantified effect model "where the ultimate goal.

Abstract The development of MEMS industry had been around 27 years, but it grows dramatically in recent years. The developed country, USA, Japan, German, have first mover advantage in MEMS; the economic of Taiwan is less mature than those countries, lack of lot resources also. The positioning and strategy of Taiwan MEMS become more important. MEMS do not only apply electrical but also mechanical character for sensing or manipulating sound, heat, force, magnetism, light, etc to construct sensor and actuator that can react with environment. By using MEMS, we can build up more friendly user interface to conduct more application than IC. Semiconductor chip is so thin and small to derive low transportation cost and low geometry boundary of competition. The cluster effect of Taiwan semiconductor IC industry is so famous to consider MEMS to become important choice for another future Silicon industry due to MEMS can use IC FAB and the talent of engineer and management. We can acquire more Taiwan competence by taking good position in MEMS through extending IC cluster effect and proper positioning and strategy. This paper wants to understand the trajectory and competence of USA, Japan, German through analysis with five forces, diamond model. Apply SWOT to find out positioning of Taiwan MEMS in the future 10 years; then propose the possible way to quickly, firmly develop Taiwan MEMS industry by apply diamond model, management route, dynamic strategy. Cyber-Attack Modeling Analysis Techniques: An Overview

Al-Mohannadi, Hamad, Mirza, Qublai K.A., Namanya, Anitta P., Awan, Irfan U., Cullen, Andrea J., Pagna Disso, Jules F. January 2016 (has links)
Yes / Cyber attack is a sensitive issue in the world of Internet security. Governments and business organisations around the world are providing enormous effort to secure their data. They are using various types of tools and techniques to keep the business running, while adversaries are trying to breach security and send malicious software such as botnets, viruses, trojans etc., to access valuable data. Everyday the situation is getting worse because of new types of malware emerging to attack networks. It is important to understand those attacks both before and after they happen in order to provide better security to our systems. Understanding attack models provide more insight into network vulnerability; which in turn can be used to protect the network from future attacks. In the cyber security world, it is difficult to predict a potential attack without understanding the vulnerability of the network. So, it is important to analyse the network to identify top possible vulnerability list, which will give an intuitive idea to protect the network. Also, handling an ongoing attack poses significant risk on the network and valuable data, where prompt action is necessary. Proper utilisation of attack modelling techniques provide advance planning, which can be implemented rapidly during an ongoing attack event. This paper aims to analyse various types of existing attack modelling techniques to understand the vulnerability of the network; and the behaviour and goals of the adversary. The ultimate goal is to handle cyber attack in efficient manner using attack modelling techniques.

How the Swedish banks took over the financial system in the Baltic States : A study about what factors impacted the internationalization process of Swedish banks to the Baltic States

Gharib, Ireen, Murseli, Shkodran January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to gain deeper knowledge on what factors impacted the internationalization process of Swedish banks. By distinguishing the factors the goal is to increase the understanding and awareness of the effect of these factors can have on foreign banks or financial institutions when internationalizing to a transition economy. To be able to create a wider perspective the study has been conducted through a qualitative method and an abductive research approach. We have been able to collect primary data by conducting interviews with the banks that have been a part of this multiple case study. In order to develop an understanding and to be able to fulfil our purpose with the thesis the main research question is formulated as follows: What factors have impacted the internationalization of Swedish banks to the Baltic market?   The theoretical review includes previous research and theories related to internationalization, business environment and factors that can impact the internationalization process. The methodology chapter explains the approach, method and design we have used. The empirical data and the theoretical framework are discussed in order to find out what drove the banks to the internationalization.   The analysis will describe how the banks have internationalized, why the banks chose one specific market in the beginning and the reason to why the internationalization occurred in the first place.   The conclusion shows that the most important factor of the internationalization to the Baltic countries was because of the change in the governmental and economical structure. The factors that affect the choice of country is also significant, with the reason to see which country was most developed during the time the Swedish banks entered the market.
