The Dark Green World. Radical environmentalism in Czech republic after 1989 Arnošt Novák ABSTRACT Since 1970' environmental movement has been an important social actor. However it never has been an homogeneous and monolithic movement, but it has represented conglomerate of different approaches and currents, strategies and tactics which they were often in mutual contradictions too. This thesis focus on czech environmental movement after 1989 and especially on the radical ecologist activities. By using qualitative research it tries to map and to re-construct radical ecologist activites within a framework of international radical environmentalism. The thesis strives to open critical discussion about radical ecology in the czech context.

Indeed, the referred action poses as an important instrument to ensure the supremacy of rules molded in the Federal Constitution, being a recurring topic in academic studies and in Legal operators´ routine. Therefore during the elaboration of the job herein presented there was an attempt to outline the nuance and particularities of predominant points that characterize it, especially regarding to competence, standing to sue, standing to be sued, lawsuits, judgment, effects and decisions models. Sem dúvida, a aludida ação revela-se como importante instrumento para assegurar a supremacia das normas plasmadas na Constituição Federal, sendo tema recorrente em estudos acadêmicos e no cotidiano dos operadores do Direito. Assim, na elaboração do trabalho aqui apresentado procurouse traçar as nuances e particularidades de pontos preponderantes que bem a caracterizam, notadamente com relação à competência, legitimação ativa, legitimação passiva, processo, julgamento, efeitos e modalidades das decisões. <p>The aim of this paper is to analyse the social movement Planka.nu with reference to the theory of new social movements in order to engage in a discussion about the presence of “old” tradition and “new” trends. As well as empirical, the purpose is also theoretical and methodological: to examine, and extend, the discussion about new and old social movements. A qualitative method is used. The analytical framework is based on a combination of theories of social movements and new social movements. Planka.nu was started in 2003 in Stockholm. The movement uses the Internet to organise free-riding on the public buses and trains with the aim of pressuring regional politicians into fully financing public transportation by progressive taxation. In all aspects discussed, both old and new characteristics were found. Behind a rhetoric that to a large extent resembles that of the traditional Swedish labour movement lies a redefinition of values, ideas and strategies that correspond with the theory of new social movements. By adopting a theoretical outlook on social movements that questions the existence of two divided blocs, a more nuanced discussion of the combination of old and new aspects could be held.</p>

This study explores radical pacifists’ intellectual engagement with the black freedom movement by examining the New York-based magazine Liberation between 1956 and 1965. It argues that two priorities shaped Liberation’s responses to the movement: the concern to promote the philosophy and practice of nonviolent direct action, and the concern to advocate radical social change in the United States. Until 1965 Liberation promoted the civil rights movement as a potential catalyst for the nonviolent reconstruction of U.S. democracy. Liberation became a forum for exploring the common ground as well as the tensions between radical pacifist priorities and those of various black freedom activists. The tensions are particularly apparent in Liberation’s reflections on the challenges of linking peace activism with the freedom struggle in the early 1960s, and in its 1964-65 debate over civil rights leaders’ strategy of coalition with the Democratic Party in the context of the escalating war in Vietnam.

Estudos baseados em Interferon (IFN) e Ribavirina (RBV) mostraram uma melhora da RI e da regressão de fibrose associada à Resposta Virológica Sustentada (RVS), mesmo em pacientes cirróticos.As evidências são incertas se isso ocorre com os Antivirais de Ação Direta (AADs). Objetivos: Avaliar a influência da RVS em cirróticos infectados pelo vírus da hepatite C (VHC) tratados com os AADs na RI, nos Lipídes Séricos, nos marcadores indiretos de atividade inflamatória, nos marcadores indiretos de fibrose hepática e nos escores de avaliação de função hepática. Metodologia: Estudo prospectivo longitudinal realizado no Ambulatório de Hepatites Virais da disciplina de Gastroenterologia do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu em dois períodos: no início do tratamento (t-base) e na décima segunda semana após o fim do tratamento (t-RVS). Critérios de Inclusão: infecção pelo VHC (RNA-VHC positivo), idade ≥ 18 anos, conclusão da terapia com AADs, presença de cirrose hepática e amostras coletadas no t-base e t-RVS. Studies based on Interferon (IFN) and Ribavirin (RBV) have shown an improvement in IR and fibrosis regression associated with Sustained Virological Response (SVR), even in cirrhotic patients. This evidence is uncertain if this occurs with Direct Action Antivirals (DAAs). Objective: To evaluate the influence of SVR on hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected cirrhotic patients treated with DAAs in IR, Serum Lipids, indirect markers of inflammatory activity, indirect markers of hepatic fibrosis and evaluation scores of hepatic function. Methods: Prospective longitudinal study conducted at the Viral Hepatitis Outpatient Clinic of the Gastroenterology Department of the Clinical Hospital of Botucatu Medical School in two periods: at the beginning of treatment (t-base) and at the twelfth week after the end of treatment (t-SVR). Inclusion Criteria: HCV infection (age-positive HCV RNA), age ≥ 18 years, completion of DAAs therapy, presence of liver cirrhosis and samples collected at t-base and t-SVR. This thesis investigates the portrayal of non-violent direct action (NVDA) in This Is Not a Drill: An Extinction Rebellion Handbook by considering the two chapters “Courting Arrest” by Jay Griffiths, and “The Civil Resistance Model” by Roger Hallam. Using critical discourse analysis in the style of Norman Fairclough, I examine the textual features, discourse practices, and social practices of the chapters by applying theories of environmental justice, intersectionality, and embodiment. I argue that Griffiths and Hallam reproduce oppressive power structures by excluding certain identities and experiences from their discourse. First, the lack of a discussion of the situatedness of violence within the NVDA strategy employed by Extinction Rebellion – focusing on having as many protestors arrested as possible – represents the acts of arrest as inherently non-violent. This representation erases other possible experiences of arrest from the discourse. Second, the authors portray their own experiences as universal, and thereby create a universal subject that is white, middle-class, able-bodied, and a legal resident of the UK. Discourse is seen as both constitutive of, and constituted by, the social world; this portrayal of subjectivities is shown to have very real effects on to what degree certain identities feel at home within the Extinction Rebellion movement. I conclude the study with a discussion of possible paths for Extinction Rebellion and other similar movements to become more inclusive by adopting a more intersectional perspective that acknowledges the embodied realities of different identities. By applying this perspective, these movements can start working against hegemonic structures of oppression that exclude certain (non-white) identities from decision-making processes.
