Previous issue date: 2017-08-22 / Considering that Parasport is a subject of great relevance, however, little explored and
publicized in the communication vehicles and academic environment, this work aims to
produce a book-report on athletes from Paraíba who competed in Rio 2016 Paralympics,
showing how they started their activities in parasport, their life history, the prejudices suffered,
the difficulties due to the deficiency in order to compete, as well as the participation and
experience during the games. For the production of this book, the privileged resource was to
conduct interviews with five athletes from Paraíba, using as main criterion of choice the fact of
residing in the state of Paraiba. The objective of this study is to awaken society by its importance
and respect for people with disabilities. The report, in its development, involves a contextual
panorama of parasport in the world, in Brazil and Paraíba, it also presents a discussion on social
inclusion and legal devices and bases the strategies adopted as: in-depth interview, construction
of book-report, addressing the discussions on literary journalism and profiles.

"Folksporten för alla - alltid" : Svensk innebandys inkluderingsresa / "A sport for all - always" : A journey of inclusion in Swedish floorballAndersson, Malin January 2021 (has links)
The Swedish Sports Confederation is performing a large organisational change. The change involves transferring the sports that are administered by the Parasport Federation to the other national sports organisations (NSO). This way, athletes with disabilities will be included in other NSOs that are offering the same or similar sports, mainly for athletes without disabilities. This means new demands for the NSOs structures for the process, specifically regarding resources and distribution of them, availability, and special competence. The aim of this study was to examine this change process and what results this can bring within one of the receiving NSOs, The Swedish Floorball Federation. More specifically, this study has investigated obstacles, opportunities, and preparedness on club- and athlete-level through semi-structured interviews with representatives from clubs and athletes with and without disabilities. The results showed a low level of knowledge regarding the change and how it will be carried out, why it is implemented, and which effects it can bring. Many obstacles were identified such as adapting to new and unknown environments, providing teams with leaders and adjusting the clubs’ operations. An increased sense of belonging for people with disabilities was one of the identified opportunities. Another opportunity was that the process will lead to a better and more united sports movement where Swedish floorball will be one step closer to their vision on being “a sport for all – always”. The results were analysed through frame factor theory. Through this analysis, the conclusion is that floorball clubs follow and contain structures that are both enabling and limiting the inclusion process. For example, there are structures regarding knowledge about disabilities that create inaccurate ideas about athletes with disabilities and disability sports. This finding highlights a need for increased competence about disabilities to enable a process toward equal conditions for participation in sports.

An Opportunity for Sport or an Opportunity for Development: Is Special Olympics Perceived as Contributing to Psychosocial Development and Social Inclusion?Inoue, Chiaki 28 September 2011 (has links)
Sport is a cultural phenomenon that has spread throughout the world (Harvey & Houle, 1994). For youth, sport is perceived as a context that can play a major role in person’s psychosocial development across their life-span (Danish, Petitpas, & Hale, 2007). However, despite the increase in research in this field, very little work has examined how sport may play a role in the psychosocial development of youth with intellectual disabilities (ID). Moreover, an area of study that has also grown related to the lived experiences of individuals living with a disability including ID is social inclusion (SI). Similar to research related to psychosocial development, very little research has been conducted to examine whether the context of sport can foster social inclusion for youth with ID. Special Olympics Canada (SOC) is an organization “dedicated to enriching the lives of Canadians with an intellectual disability through sport” (SOC, 2010, “SOC Mission Statement”, para.1) and may be an organization that has the potential to positively impact the lives of its youth participants. Thus, the purpose of this research was to examine whether stakeholders perceived SO as impacting the psychosocial development and social inclusion. The results indicated that SO, by all stakeholders, is perceived as an organization that is facilitating the psychosocial development of its athletes through the incorporation of strong social support networks and the development of life skills. In addition, SO was perceived as facilitating social inclusion for youth, particularly in the context of school and their surrounding community.
