Carta-crÃnica: uma tradiÃÃo discursiva no jornalismo potiguar. / Chronicle-letter: a discursive tradition in Rio Grande do Norte journalism

Lucimar Bezerra Dantas da Silva 21 December 2012 (has links)
As main objective of this research we describe and characterize the chronicle-letter as a discursive genre, in a synchronic perspective, and as a discursive tradition (DT), from a diachronic perspective. The theoretical reference which we based on to describe this genre was the discursive theory by Bakhtin (2010, 2003, 1988, 1976), specially the concepts of transmutation and hybridism; genre theory, based on Bhatia (2009, 2004, 2001, 1990); Swales (2009, 2004, 1990); Bazerman (2005, 1994) and Maingueneau (2011, 2006). To characterize the letter as a Discourse Tradition we have taken into account Coseriu (1979, 1980, 2007); Schilieben-Lange (1983); Kabatek (2004a,b) and Koch (2008). The methodology was based on the model proposed by Zavan (2009) to analyze genre diachronically. Through this methodology we constituted a corpus composed of 75 chronicle lett ers, collected in the following newspapers from Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil: A RepÃblica, DiÃrio de Natal , (a Catholic Church Center Newspaper), and Tribuna do Norte, from Rio Grande do Norte, in the period from 1914 to 2010. In order to analize the route of the chronicle letter and to identify the transformations that affected them along time, we approached them in three phases, with a sample of 25 letters in each one. The data analysis allows us to affirm that the chronicle letter is a Discursive Tradition in Rio Grande do Norte journalism. The results show that a chronicle letter Discursive Tradition is characterized by past evocation. Thus, the narrative of evoked past histories through memories is a defining feature in this Discursive Tradition.

Tradições discursivas e modalidade: reflexões sobre a trajetória do gênero carta do editor em jornais paulistas do século XIX ao início do século XX / Discursive traditions and modality: reflections about the letter to the editor genre trajectory in São Paulos newspapers in the period of nineteenth-century to earlier twentieth-century.

Rafaela Baracat Ribeiro Rodrigues 29 March 2011 (has links)
In this research, we carried out a study of discursive genre in a diachronic perspective, looking for the organization and linguistic strategies which are shown on it. We analyzed a social practice of journalistic sphere, the letter to the editor, with the objective of verifying constitutive elements and possible transformations of the genre throughout the history. Especially, we observed linguistic structures which maintain discursive regularities in this genre of the written press, in the period of nineteenth-century to earlier twentieth-century. To illustrate it, we supported the study on written media works, focusing not only on the establishment of journalism context but also on discursive genre and discursive traditions works with the aim of anchoring the analysis of textual features that ensure the continuity and contribute to the identification of the genre as typical of journalistic institution. Through this situated social practice emerges linguistic resources which orient the meaning production and help participants to look for, in some way, influencing their interlocutors to achieve their interactional purposes. Among these resources, we pointed out the adverbial modality. We formed basis on pragmatic and discourse analysis about this category to link it to the production of letters to the editor. To the intended analysis, we selected three São Paulos newspaper copies: O Farol Paulistano, Correio Paulistano e A Provínca de S. Paulo/ O Estado de S. Paulo, and conducted a survey of linguistic occurrences in the textual construction to verify possible elements which remain or modify, drawing a parallel with topical texts. The results indicated that, in the historical course of the letter to the editor, we could found thematic, compositional and functional regularities of latest centuries still present in this written media production. The results, demonstrated by the modality analysis, also pointed out this linguistic category as an element present in the configuration of the genre, revealing the way of construction of social assessments and ideological expressions through the instantiation and the meaning effects which could be built up through this discursive strategy.

L’idéologie du texte : analyse sémiolinguistique de la francographie négro-africaine / The ideology of the text : semiolinguistic analysis of the negro-African francography

Vessah Ngou, Donald 07 March 2013 (has links)
This thesis, entitled The ideology of the text: semiolinguistic analysis of the negro-African francography, is attempting a scrutiny of ideology in the novel. Characterizing what is known as francography, we restore the main events of its tumultuous development into the organized professional activity that it is today. We thus postulate that ideologems in the text initiate an interpretation of the sociopolitical situation in Africa. Trying to resolve the ubiquity of ideology in language, we manage to circumscribe a frame of study to spot the manifestations of our topic in the text. For that purpose, we recourse to discourse analysis, especially its concepts of discursive practice and discursive formation. The notion of habitus, developed by Bourdieu, also contributed to state systems of signs that are culturally and socially determined in the African literary field, as well as it deviated the structuralist immanence of text theories. This deviation led to an efficient switch between the ideology of the authors and that of their characters or narrators. It is on these two lines and on the double aspect (the basic one of thoughts and viewpoints, and the most strategic or controversial one) of the ideological action that we come to build the frame of the thesis. Through a lexicological study (Characterization, Description and Lexical creativity), we examine the lexical combinations constructed by the speakers to represent things and beings according to their judgments. It emerges from this that enunciators have a rather negative representation of their environment, even though some authors succeed in raising the image of Africa. In the second section of the theses, based on Thescenographic structuration, we scrutinize the sense of the utterance according to its enunciation, as well as we consider both the internal and the outside stage/staging of the various protagonists of the communication. Confirming the statement that African writers, more than fifty years after colonization, are still concerned with the linguistic question, The Linguistic representations illustrate the use of various conceptions of French that writers perform, either to simply get ordinary representations to reverberate across the literary field, either as a strategy to make their mark on a topic that has always been very successful. The study of the text enunciation, through Reported speech, Deixis and Narrative temporality, reveals how speakers/thinkers conceive otherness and identity, how they switch, according to their interests, from a singular to a universal reference and vice versa, how they manipulate the other’s enunciation to serve their viewpoints. In the aggregate, authors of the corpus denunciate an excessive free-and-easy political attitude and a pernicious propensity for immediacy. The negro-African francography turns out to be a field of various ideological battles, both for writers, political and publishing protagonists, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, for writers and readers, whether the latter are African or Europeans. It does not matter much that readers don’t answer writers back in the text, or don’t even simply retort; what is certain is that the battles and reciprocal perceptions over both sides are palpable in the text.

The spatial representation in Portuguese and in the romance languages : contrastive study of demonstrative and adverbs of places : approach diachronic, synchronic and comparative

De Lima Gomes Rodrigues, Wirla Branca 09 December 2016 (has links)
Portuguese grammars set as a ternary system of demonstratives, but in the effective use of language we observe a tendency to install a binary system in both European and Brazilian Portuguese. The forms of 1st and 2nd person are neutralized in opposition to the forms of 3rd person, in the paradigm of determinants as well as in the paradigm of pronouns. In this study, we analyze the use of demonstratives and adverbs of place in a corpus of graphic novels of Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese. Our main objective is to verify if there are different forms of coding the dimensions of space and person in these two varieties. This work is aligned with Guillaume's psychosystématique concerning the representation of space and the formal differences in the manner how speakers represent themselves as persons. Our main hypothesis is that possible differences in the use of demonstrative forms reflect different orientation of mental operations adopted by Portuguese and Brazilian speakers. The two varieties represented oral Portuguese have neutralizations compromising the distinction among three referential domains: the 1st person, the 2nd person and the 3rd person. However, this trend appears differently in each variety especially in relation to the determinant demonstratives. While Brazilian Portuguese generalizes the form of second person esse, European Portuguese generalizes the 1st person form este. Furthermore, we show that the referential strengthening through reinforced sequences with adverbials of place, more frequent in Brazilian Portuguese, creates discursive oppositions that go beyond the reconstruction of a ternary division of geographical space.

Le rap comme activité (s) sociale (s) : dynamiques discursives et genre à Montréal (approche sociolinguistique) / Rap as a social activity : socio-discursive and gender dynamics in Montreal (a sociolinguistical approach)

Lesacher, Claire 13 October 2015 (has links)
This research offers a socio-discursive insight on the Montréal rap scene, by looking into the practices, representations, experiences and trajectories of female rappers in Montréal, through the prism of gender. Grounded in the field of sociolinguistics – and even more so in urban sociolinguistics for the originality of its questionings – and anchored to the theoretical and epistemological frameworks that envisage gender as a coproduced social relation (“rapport social”) and subjectivities as permeated by social relations, but never completely determined by them, this study is based on a fieldwork among female Montréal rappers, which took place in 2011. Based on a discursive corpus, interpreted using both discourse analysis and thematic analysis, it engages an interpretation of the phenomena and of the processes as territorialized. The practices, experiences and representations of the female rappers will be analyzed in a context marked by their scarcity. Beside the actualization of gender relations and formation processes, I find that the sociolinguistic features of Montréal’s social space, and what is referred to as “québéquicity”, also impact the practices and the experiences of the rappers. Thus, the rappers compose their practices and their trajectories while being constantly positioned in a unique, dynamic, and bound to be ambivalent place inside the “matrix of domination”, shaped by the interweaving of gender, language, perspectives on rap music, and the heritage of an ideology of the French-Canadian “francophonie”, that notably actualizes the contemporary concept of “québéquicity”.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 1250752 bytes, checksum: f895e82ebec46f142680436b04edadd0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-04-30 / The syntactic-semantic-discursive agglutination is a process concerning to the junction of the complement in the verb designed by Traditional Grammar (GT) as intransitive, having no material occupation as the object. However, in some situations, these verbs can be used like complement materialized in the syntax plan, with the syntactic-semantic-discursive detachment. This phenomenon is caused by enunciative reasons. Therefore, we had as main objective to analyze the syntactic-semantic-discursive agglutination and detachment of the verbs defined by the Traditional Grammar in an enunciation perspective, using, for this, printed reports. In order to answer this need, we developed the following specific objectives: to characterize the syntactic-semantic-discursive agglutination/ detachment as an enunciative phenomenon; analyze the meaning of a linguistic element (the verb) through two biases: theme (contextual meaning) and linguistic significance (in dictionaries sense) by combining with the active comprehension; understand how the syntactic-semantic-discursive agglutination and detachment are used in targeted verbs in a printed report, observing the thematic content, compositional elements and the style; discuss the factors that provide the syntactic-semantic-discursive agglutination the syntactic-semantic-discursive detachment in selected verbs for analysis. For this purpose, we used the theoretical construct defended by Bakhtin / Voloshinov (1981, 1926), Bakhtin (2003), as well as researchers of the linguistic thought from the Bakhtin Circle. Our corpus comprised twenty-two printed reports of Veja magazine, published in the period from 1968 to 2013 and selected in <http://veja.abril.com.br/acervodigital>. At first, we discuss the thematic content, compositional elements and the style of chosen reports. Subsequently, we analyze the syntactic-semantic-discursive agglutination in the verbs die, live, sunrise, fall, mature, aging, fight, react, dream, cry, smile, sleep, grow and laugh. And subsequently, we described some of the syntactic-semantic-discursive detachment in some of these verbs. Thus, we can say that, in this work, a syntactic phenomenon (the intransitive verbs) was observed by the Theory of Enunciation, according to Bakhtin / Voloshinov (1981). Posteriormente, analisamos a aglutinação sintático-semântico-discursiva nos verbos morrer, viver, nascer, cair, amadurecer, envelhecer, lutar, reagir, sonhar, chorar, sorrir, dormir, gritar, crescer e rir.

Discursive institutionalism and pension reform in Greece 1990-2002 : appraising Europeanization from the 'bottom-up'

Xiarchogiannopoulou, Eleni January 2010 (has links)
The research puzzle of the thesis is to investigate how policy discourse mediates domestic policy adjustment consequent on commitments entered into at the domestic level by the European Union. Conceptually, it adopts the discursive institutionalist framework as developed by Vivien Schmidt and Claudio Radaelli. Empirically, it chooses a single-case study approach to focus on the Greek old-age pension policy adjustment during 1990-2002. The thesis also appraises the process of Europeanization. It adopts the ‘bottom-up’ approach to Europeanization as developed by Claudio Radaelli. Under this scope it’s analysis does not start from EU policy commitments as an independent variable, but from a system of interaction at the domestic level. Conceptually, the thesis looks at policy discourse as a consensus and legitimacy building resource. It focuses on the discursive interactions of key policy actors and analyses how they use policy discourse in order to justify the necessity and the appropriateness of policy adjustment in a given institutional context. The thesis suggests that the discursive institutionalist argument of how policy discourse facilitates policy adjustment puts too much emphasis on the governmental discourse and that the input of the rest of key policy actors must be included in the analysis. It thus proposes the integration of certain elements of the Neo-Positivist Narrative Analysis framework to discursive institutionalism. The argument claims that policy actors’ discourse will take the form of policy narratives that either expand or contain the policy issue. The institutional context will determine the level at which the discursive interaction will take place. In simple polities like Greece, discourse will be thicker at the communicative level and thinner at the coordinative. The effectiveness of discourse will be determined by the level of trust between the government, the key policy actors and the public. The empirical analysis points to a number of domestic factors that restrict the effectiveness of policy discourse and the process of Europeanization, which fall outside the pension policy area and Greece. The thesis also contributes to the advancement of discursive institutionalism. Firstly, it incorporates narrative analysis to the study of discourse. Secondly, it highlights certain limitations, it suggests ways that discursive institutionalism could be improved and directions towards which it could be fruitfully developed.

Identity, discourse, and the impact of EU conditionality in the Western Balkans

Hartman, Luke 08 April 2016 (has links)
Much of the scholarship on Europeanization has explained eastern enlargement according to the logics of materialism or constructivism. Materialists argue that candidates' compliance with conditionality demands is rooted in strong external material incentives and a credible shot at membership, while constructivists point to shared identities, norms and values. These are valuable insights, yet they do not address a critical missing element - how the dispersion of ideas influences institutional outcomes in candidate states. This research demonstrates that in order for the EU to have a transformative impact on the political institutions of the states of former Yugoslavia, national political leaders must be able to communicate a satisfying narrative of EU legitimacy that resonates with national narratives of legitimacy when justifying policy choices. The project goes beyond an analysis of compliant/non-compliant behavior to unearth a greater understanding of how, at the hour of accession, elite discourse operates as an agent to reshape histories, form new identities, and mold preferences. Together these processes have profound policy implications for the new regimes, as they lead to decisions that are consequential for institutional development at both the EU and state level. In particular, using a combination of content analysis and an original elite survey, this research finds that elites' ability to express power through ideas and over ideas can transform power in ideas for the cases of Croatia and Serbia/Kosovo. For Croatia, this entails elites creating conditions whereby the public believes in the idea that EU membership represents an 'escape' from the Balkans as opposed to a 'return' to Europe. For Serbia/Kosovo, elites strive to convince citizens that EU membership signifies a 're-branding' of the Balkan image rather than an escape. The Serbia-Kosovo territorial dispute figures prominently in the picture as it pits new ideas - a re-branded 'European' Serbia - against old ideas wherein the Kosovo narrative is essential to Serbian national identity. Serbian elites work to persuade EU and national publics that these ideas are not in tension and promise to deliver on both - attain EU membership and keep Kosovo.

Medeiros, Igor Baptista de Oliveira January 2018 (has links)
This thesis presents itself in the form of an essay as an expression of a desire to problematize on the urgencies of the present and the recent past surrounding the study of organizations, producing effects that spread through the quotidian and creating a specific technology of government - the management dispositive. For this, the essay form is a useful way to deal with a form of knowledge production that seeks problematization rather than evidence. The essay is a political manifestation that brings to the fore by the writing process the reflective trajectory of the researcher and his positioning in the face of a problem. In this continuous process of reflexivity of the self in which theory and empiricism merge from the varied set of experiences of the essayist, knowledge is produced as a work of the self in thought that allows him to problematize on the questions around the sayings and doings of his field of study. In this thesis, the problem that is considered is the management dispositive and the discursive formations that were engendered by its positivity. Thus, I also use the writing of the self as a methodological practice creating a fictitious argument in which the positivity of management is also reverberated. Building upon the fiction narrative, I argue that our recent history has accompanied an advance in management techniques as a reference in the way of organizing life in society. Beyond the walls of firms, management tools are demanded from public administration to home care, setting up a rational-utilitarian mode of subjectivation supported by the standardization enunciation throughout the last century. It gained momentum when a new economic motto was enacted from the 1980s with the expansion of neoliberalism and the constitution of financial markets, reinforced by the enunciation of privileges. The recent aggravation of management positivity occurs in the form of another mode of subjectivation, which then acts alongside it in a concentric operation in favor of the maximization of Capital flows: the dispositive of financialization. Thus, subjects today are strongly subjugated to a logic that instils in them a supposed liberal individualization that masks a fund of disciplinary capitalistic totalitarianism. This thesis is a problematization of this contemporary moment of (dis)illusion engendering in the elaboration of a genealogy which, like a train that goes into a dark tunnel, will not see its end quite soon.

The Discursive Materialities of Sex : Making and Undermining Gender Evidence Through Discourses on Atypical Sexes

Marignier, Noémie 18 November 2016 (has links)
This thesis discusses how discourses on variations of sex development (intersexuality) couldsometimes produce and maintain a difference between the sexes and sometimes destabilize it.Elaborated within the field of discourse analysis, this thesis unfolds along a twofold theoreticalapproach. First, I seek to establish a dialogue between French Discourse Analysis and GenderStudies, to discuss the concepts of ideology, discursive formations and preconstruct. Secondly, addressing issues of the practices of categorisation and of construction of gender identities, thisdissertation falls within the field of the Gender & Language Studies. My analysis especiallyfocuses on how speakers use semantic, lexical, enunciative and pragmatic resources in order toproduce the meaning of sex. It led me to analyze how they create gender identities but alsohow they produce, spread and contest the ideologies of gender, by both naturalizing anddenaturalizing the sex difference. These analyses are based on a collection of medicaldiscourses (publications, children’s medical files), a collection of on-line activist discourses (fromforums and associations websites), and a collection of pornographic discourse involving atypicalsexes. Carrying qualitative analysis, the dissertation shows that the meanings of sex areunceasingly done and undone through discourses: they are produced by heteronormativity, they are affirmed or subverted by subjective positions, and they are reconfigured in thediscourses of desire.
