Measuring and using precipitation data in Costa Rica is a necessary subject matter when one carries out an experiment in this area, whether it be directly related to rainfall or the effects of it on ecosystems. Using geographical information systems (GIS), precipitation maps of Costa Rica were used and digitized to acquire data on where and in what regions precipitation was commonly found. With this information, we were able to track the dry and wet seasons throughout Costa Rica and determine where the precipitation is more likely to occur during certain times of the year. Additionally, trends between longitude, latitude, and elevation were sought in the areas around the Firestone Center for Restoration Ecology. The results found a huge difference of precipitation between August – October and January – March, as well as trends demonstrating a strong linear relationship between latitude and precipitation. Trends between elevation and longitude showed much weaker linear relationships.

Esta dissertação de Mestrado analisa as práticas de leitura em religião nos grupos de estudos bíblicos da Igreja Evangélica Assembléia de Deus, na Vila Iguaçu, no município de Novo Hamburgo, entre os anos de 2005 e 2007, trazendo alguns “atravessamentos” do mesmo estudo realizado entre os anos de 2002 e 2003, na Ilha da Pintada, no Delta do Jacuí. Problematiza a produção de sujeitos leitores assembleianos nesses espaços, entendendo que há neles a inserção numa cultura enfaticamente bíblica, que acaba por criar espaços de alfabetismos, conforme debatem os estudos a esse respeito propostos pelos Estudos Culturais em Educação e sua aproximação às análises da História e da Etnografia, as quais possibilitam perceber a existência de múltiplos alfabetismos, presentes em tempos e espaços sociais e anteriores à escolarização da alfabetização. Ao analisar os usos sociais da leitura, apropria-se da etnografia sob sua perspectiva pós-moderna, entendendo-a como um discurso, que, em suas relações de poder/saber, produz formas de compreender o “outro”, o mundo e a si. Assim, através da linguagem, constrói formas de inscrever a comunidade assembleiana no texto etnográfico, discutindo-a em sua relação à concepção mais ampla: o “crente”. Trata-se de uma construção histórica e culturalmente contingente sobre as práticas discursivas que produzem não somente o assembleiano, mas a própria experiência de si, envolvendo uma multiplicidade de estratégias e situações relacionais que visam à orientação das condutas, através da subjetivação de valores éticos e morais da crença, mediados pelos espaços de estudos do Evangelho, que acabam por construir espaços de alfabetismos. Busca compreensões sobre os leitores e as práticas de leitura inscritas no diário de campo, nas 18 entrevistas, nas fotografias, nos diversos artefatos culturais circulantes, como cartazes, panfletos, livros, hinários, revistas, sobretudo aquelas especialmente produzidas para a orientação nacional do espaço de estudo bíblico “Escola Bíblica Dominical”, em que foi realizada a observação-participante no ano de 2007. Discute a produção do leitor “nas” páginas das quatro revistas “Lições Bíblicas” produzidas e publicadas no mesmo ano pela Casa Publicadora da Assembléia de Deus (CPAD) e seus usos “das” revistas, compreendendo como um produto de intenções, expectativas e investimentos em relação ao autor, ao editor e ao próprio leitor, que faz diferentes usos, muitas vezes, subvertendo aqueles esperados na produção do texto. Há, assim, uma tensão insolúvel entre a vontade disciplinante e a liberdade do leitor, produzindo distintas experiências de leitura, tanto em função da materialidade do texto como pelo seu conteúdo discursivo. Nesse sentido, investiga as formas como os enunciados são produzidos, controlados, organizados e subordinados a uma ordem, não dos livros, mas também do discurso. / This Master’s degree dissertation analyses the religion reading practices in biblical studies groups of Evangelical Church Assembly of God, in Vila Iguaçu, in Novo Hamburgo city, among the years of 2005 and 2007, bringing up some “crossings” from the same study accomplished between the years 2002 and 2003, in the Ilha da Pintada, in Delta do Jacuí. It problemizes the production of readers subjects of the Assembly in these spaces, which let us to understand their introduction in a culture mainly biblical, that criates literacy teaching spaces, according to the discussions proposed by the Cultural Studies in Education and their approximation to the analysis of the History and the Etnography, which allow to realize the existence of multiples literacy teachings, present in diferent times and social spaces and anterior to the scholarization of literacy. Analysing the reading social uses, we assume the ethnography on its post-modern perspective, in a way to understand it as a discourse, which, in its relations of power/knowledge, produces diferent ways to comprehend the “other”, the world and the self. In this manner, through the language, it constructs ways of inserting the comunity of the Assembly in the ethnographical text, discussing about its relation in a most wide conception: the “believer”. It is about a historical construction and culturally contingent about the discoursives practices that produce not only the member of the Assembly but the self experience, involving a multiplicity of strategies and relational situations that aim at the conduct orientations, through the subjetivation of ethic and moral values from the belief, mediated by spaces of Evangel studies, which construct spaces of literacy teachings. It looks for the comprehensions about the readers and the reading practices inscribed in the diary of field, in 18 interviews, in photograpies, in many cyclical cultural artfacts, such as posters, flyers, books, hymn books, magazines, above all those especially produced to the nacional orientation of the biblical study space “Sunday School”, in which the observationparticipating in the year of 2007 was accomplished. It discusses the production of the reader in the pages from four magazines “Bible Lessons”, made and published in the same year by the Publisher House of Assemblies of God (Casa Publicadora da Assembléia de Deus – CPAD), and the magazines uses, comprehending as a product of intentions, expectations and investements related to the author, the editor and the reader, that makes different uses, many times, subverting those expected in the text production. There is, in such case, a insoluble tension between the disciplining will and the reader liberty, resulting in diferents experiences of reading, as much the funcion of the matter of the text as its discoursive content. In this manner, it investigates the ways in which the enunciations are produced, controlled, organized and subordinated to an order, not only the books but also the discourse.

Tem como fio condutor a teoria de Milton Santos, apresentada em Os Dois Circuitos da Economia Urbana nos Países Subdesenvolvidos, dando ênfase ao Circuito Inferior. Busca-se compreender a apropriação do espaço por seus agentes sociais, bem como, suas articulações de produção, circulação e consumo das mercadorias comercializadas. Através da proposta dos Circuitos dos Fluxos Socioespaciais, defendida por Rosalvo Carneiro, apresenta-se a ação, a razão comunicativa e a linguagem oral, como estratégias de vendas. A metodologia apresentada privilegia a abordagem qualitativa, com destaque para a dialética, visto que a Feira apresenta particularidades e contradições que a diferenciam das outras feiras livres em bairros denominados periféricos do município de Salvador. Citamos como exemplo, sua “ruralidade” dentro de um espaço urbano. Além disso, busca-se no materialismo histórico a edificação da mesma ao longo dos tempos em um espaço e durante um tempo determinado. O período analisado foi entre 2014 e 2016, contudo se investigou a origem da Feira, que advém da década de 1970, a sua permanência e expansão nos dias atuais. Para tal procedimento, foram utilizadas fontes secundárias e visitas a órgãos públicos, aplicação de questionários semiestruturados, depoimentos de feirantes, consumidores, moradores antigos e o trabalho de campo serviram de baliza para o aprofundamento e concretização da pesquisa, proporcionando maior entendimento sobre as interações espaciais que incidem no espaço estudado. A investigação apontou a Feira como possível fruto da expansão urbana do município de Salvador e abrigo de feirantes em geral, com poucos recursos financeiros, oriundos de vários municípios baianos e de diferentes bairros da capital do Estado. Esses agentes, ao se agruparem aos vendedores do bairro, agregam no local dinamicidade econômica, transformando-o em múltiplos territórios apoiados no consumo característico do Circuito Inferior da economia urbana. / ABSTRACT This dissertation presents an analysis about the market place that takes place at Nordeste de Amaralina, a neighborhood in Salvador, Bahia, on Sundays. The starting point for this research is Milton Santos's theory discussed in Os Dois Circuitos da Economia Urbana nos Países Subdesenvolvidos (The Two Circuits of Urban Economy in Underdeveloped Countries), focusing on the notion of Lower Circuit. Our objective is to understand the appropriation of the space by its social agents and how the production, circulation and consumption of traded goods are articulated. Based on the idea of Sociospatial Flow Circuits, defended by Rosalvo Carneiro, the action, the communicative reason and the oral language are presented as sales strategies. The methodology presented focuses on a qualitative approach, highlighting the dialectic, since the market place has its own peculiarities and contradictions which set it apart from other market places in peripheral neighborhoods of Salvador. We cite as an example, its “rurality” within an urban space. In addition, we part from historical materialism to observe the market's edification throughout time in a particular space and also in a specific point in time. Although the study was carried on from 2014 to 2016, we also investigated the origin of the market place, which dates back to the 1970s, as well as its permanence and expansion nowadays. For such a procedure, secondary sources and visits to government agencies were necessary. We also applied semi-structured questionnaires, collected testimonials from stallholders, consumers, older residents of the area and conducted field work for the further development and implementation of the research, which provided a greater understanding of the spatial interactions which affect the space studied. The investigation pointed the market place as a possible result of urban expansion of Salvador and as a shelter for marketers with limited financial resources from several municipalities in Bahia and different neighborhoods of the state capital. By joining the local tradesmen, these agents add economic dynamism to the neighborhood, turning it into multiple territories supported by the characteristic consumption of the Lower Circuit in the urban economy.

Verificando se esta denominação, quando destinada às classes mais pobres, utiliza-se de uma pedagogia específica para a construção de um modelo de comportamento e de interpretação do mundo totalmente circunscrito à religião, afastando seus fiéis do mundo laico e submetendo-os somente à sua autoridade e às normas impostas por suas lideranças. Também propõe-se pensar como podemos formar professores que pratiquem uma educação laica e humanística sem que se desrespeite a multiplicidade cultural e religiosa de seus alunos. / The objective of this paper is to study the question about the ideology in the speech of the education of the persons at the Assemble of God church, especially at the urban zone in the Presidente Prudente city. Trying to proof if this denomination, when put their focus to the poor people, uses a kind of special pedagogy to build up a behavior model and world's interpretation all inside the religious' ideas, making the followers of this denomination build another small world, far from the laic and under the power of the church's leadership. Also in this work there is the thought about a deep thought about how to improve the teacher's training that the teachers are able to practice a humanist and laic education model with respect about the cultural and religious multiplicity at the students.

A reforma gráfica do Jornal do Brasil e a construção do Suplemento Dominical do Jornal do Brasil se inserem no movimento de fratura por que passa o design brasileiro na virada dos anos 1950 para os 1960. Em um processo longo, repleto de idiossincrasias, as publicações integram essa ruptura, ao mesmo tempo em que sugerem um afastamento em relação à disciplina projetual que se instala nesse momento no Brasil. A dissertação se empenha em trazer à luz a medida dessas distâncias, por meio da análise visual das páginas dessas publicações. Ainda, lança-se na reconstrução da história da reforma do jornal e do surgimento do suplemento, confrontando a extensa mitologia que os cerca com apoio da bibliografia por ora existente e de entrevistas com fontes primárias. / The graphical renovation of Jornal do Brasil (a wide-circulation brazilian newspaper) and the elaboration of its sunday supplement Suplemento Dominical do Jornal do Brasil fit in the context of the breakthrough through which brazilian design was undergoing during the 1950s and 60s. The renovation of the aforementioned publications a process laden with idiosyncrasies should be considered as an integral part of this rupture with pre-modern brazilian design but, at the same time, the publications were actively distancing themselves from what was becoming the standard design-scheme that was laying claims on graphical projects in Brazil at that period. The present dissertation seeks to shed some light on the interplay of these features relying on a page-to-page visual analysis of these publications. Furthermore, the dissertation does not shy from retracing the history of Jornal do Brasils graphical renovation and of the emergence of its supplement, questioning the deep-rooted mythology surrounding these origins with the support of the growing bibliography on the issue and interviews with people involved.

In this effort, it became apparent the Sunday school contributed directly and indirectly in the formation of culture and personality of the people in it inserted. For this, the study begins by presenting an overview of the history of Sunday school to situate the reader in time in order that monitoring the trajectory could be critical and weighty in present status. For this reason, the author is concerned to present the structure of the Sunday school, the changes undergone over the years, as well as the pedagogical proposal to streamline the education service in the churches that develop this system of Christian education. Moreover, our goal is also to know the strength of influence of the Sunday school in the past and its usefulness today. Therefore, the author presents a survey of some intellectuals, whose answers presented served with an instrument of assessing the degree of importance of this agency educator of the Christian faith, as well as the quality of education in the Reformed churches. The conclusions the author reached demonstrates that the Sunday school needs new challenges, but recognizes that even so has contributed to the growth behavioral, social, intellectual and spiritual people, and has failed to fulfill its role in society through the churches and therefore has struggled through leadership in seeking to present the best Sunday school to continue contributing and putting people in Brazilian society highly prepared and committed to education, and the growth of people. / O autor procura mostrar nesta pesquisa a história da escola dominical, os desafios superados ao longo dos anos, bem como a contribuição dos missionários e igrejas a fim de que esta escola se tornasse uma realidade a partir do seu surgimento. Nesta tentativa, o autor procurou mostrar que a escola dominical contribuiu direta e indiretamente na formação da cultura e da personalidade das pessoas nela inseridas. Para isto, o estudo apresenta um resumo da história da escola dominical para situar o leitor no tempo, com o objetivo de acompanhar a trajetória, ser crítico e ponderável na avaliação da situação atual. Por este motivo, o autor se preocupa em apresentar a estrutura da escola dominical, as mudanças sofridas ao longo dos anos, assim como a proposta pedagógica para dinamizar o serviço educacional nas igrejas protestantes que desenvolvem este sistema de educação cristã. Além disso, objetivou-se ainda saber da força de influência da escola dominical no passado e sua utilidade na atualidade. Por isto, o autor apresenta uma entrevista envolvendo alguns intelectuais, cujas respostas apresentadas serviram como instrumento de avaliação do grau de importância desta agência educadora da fé cristã, bem como a qualidade do ensino ministrado nas igrejas de cunho reformado. As conclusões a que o autor chegou demonstram suficientemente que a escola dominical carece de novos desafios, mas, reconhece, que mesmo assim tem contribuído para o crescimento comportamental, social, intelectual e espiritual das pessoas, bem como não tem deixado de cumprir o seu papel na sociedade por meio das igrejas e por isso, tem se esforçado por meio da liderança em procurar apresentar o melhor para que a escola dominical continue contribuindo e colocando na sociedade brasileira pessoas preparadas e comprometidas com a educação.

However, specifying a bit more the issue, this work limited the scope of these discussions children´s sexuality, explicit in some materials made public at the national level by the Methodist Church and later in the practical context of their Sunday Schools, located in the ABC region of São Paulo, São Paulo state. Methodologically, the first moment of this research aims to understand the terms and concepts related to religion, sexuality and childhood. In this sense, there was a course record in this regard. They are then checked some official documents of the Methodist Church in relation of education, children and sexuality, in order to establish a dialogue with the practice observed in fieldwork and carried out through a questionnaire answered by the pastor local church, a teacher and ED children's ministry leader. Finally, the fourth chapter, it is a reflection on possible pastoral practices that value the questions about sex education for children. / Esta pesquisa pretende caracterizar a importância da educação sexual dentro dos projetos de educação cristã nas igrejas protestantes. Porém, especificando um pouco mais a questão, esse trabalho circunscreve essas discussões ao âmbito da sexualidade infantil, explicitados em alguns materiais tornados públicos em nível nacional pela Igreja Metodista e, posteriormente, no contexto da prática de suas Escolas Dominicais (ED), localizadas na região do ABC paulista (Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo e São Caetano do Sul), estado de São Paulo. Metodologicamente, o primeiro momento dessa pesquisa pretende compreender os termos e conceitos ligados a religião, a sexualidade e a infância. Neste sentido, realizou-se um trajeto histórico em relação ao tema. Em seguida, são verificados alguns documentos oficiais da Igreja Metodista em relação à educação, a criança e a sexualidade, a fim de se estabelecer um diálogo com a prática observada na pesquisa de campo e concretizada por meio de um questionário respondido pelo pastor(a) da igreja local, um professor(a) de ED e o(a) líder do ministério infantil. Por fim, no quarto capítulo, faz-se uma reflexão acerca do material coletado na pesquisa de campo e também sobre possíveis práticas pastorais que valorizem as questões sobre a educação sexual para a infância.
