Social Relationships within Ecotourism Cooperation : Case of the ARK56 Network

Hammerfeldt, Caroline January 2023 (has links)
The inclusion of ecotourism into biosphere reserves to enhance sustainable development has increased the importance of tourism stakeholders’ relationships. Therefore, this research aims to explore how the quality of social relationships among tourism stakeholders affects ecotourism cooperation in the Blekinge Archipelago biosphere reserve. This is accomplished by using social capital as a theoretical lens for conceptualizing relationships between ecotourism stakeholders. A qualitative case study of the ARK56 network has been conducted, incorporating 8 in-depth interviews with ecotourism operators in the Blekinge Archipelago biosphere reserve. The results indicated that the regional network ARK56 is essential for tourism operators since it provides a broad network of contacts and encourages cooperation among the members. It is argued that a good working relationship based on trust and reciprocity facilitates efficient cooperation within the ARK56 network and that a balance between bridging and bonding social capital was identified which contributes to successful cooperation.

Ekoturismföretagens hantering av transportutmaningen : En kvalitativ studie om svenska ekoturismföretag och deras insatser för hållbar transport till och inom destinationer

Petkovic, Marko, Söderblom, Martin January 2021 (has links)

A study on the sustainability of rural ecotourism in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China

Shi, Bohan January 2023 (has links)
China has always been a major agricultural country with the highest number of agricultural workers in the world. In order to raise the income level of farmers and promote rural prosperity and stability, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China put forward the strategy of "revitalising the countryside", and focused on the development of rural tourism as a strategy that can effectively adapt to and serve the revitalisation of the countryside in the new era. The development of rural tourism in recent years has met people's needs and has become an important part of China's tourism development industry. Nanjing, as the capital of Jiangsu Province, has developed new tourism projects in more and more surrounding villages. Although the number of rural tourism attractions has been increased, there are still many problems with the development of these attractions, including the impact of project development on the environment and the standardization of rural tourism facilities, which still need to be given high priority by relevant tourism construction researchers. Based on this, this paper examines the current situation of rural tourism development around Nanjing, and conducts a survey and analysis of Nanjing's ecotourism development based on a tourist demand perspective. Through the comparison, it is found that the development factors of rural tourism around Nanjing include government, human environment, geographical location, tourism construction direction and market condition, etc. Therefore, the study of rural tourism development problems around Nanjing needs to be combined with the actual situation of Nanjing and an in-depth study of the direct factors related to tourism in order to improve the rural tourism development problems.

Describing Uncertainty in Times of Crises : Ontological Security Within the Ecotourism Industry in Costa Rica During Covid-19

Molander, Louise, Sobrino, Ebba January 2023 (has links)
The crisis of Covid-19 put the world on hold. In many countries, borders were closed and businesses were shut for a long period of time. Countries depending on tourism were hit hard when tourists were no longer allowed to enter, leading to serious consequences worldwide. Costa Rica, being a famous ecotourism destination, was one of few countries to reopen the border after only 9 months, giving businesses a headstart in recovery. This brought both opportunities and challenges to managers dealing with the crisis. The relevance of examining crisis management within the ecotourism industry during Covid-19 is therefore tangible. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of how managers in ecotourism businesses were affected in terms of ontological security and social networks while managing the Covid-19 crisis. A qualitative study has been performed, based on six semi-structured interviews. The interviewees were managers from different areas in tourism: four hotels, one restaurant and one tourist company. Chosen theories are the concept of ontological security, Steve Matthewman’s perspective on Covid-19 and the social network concept. The results show that social networks can influence the feeling of ontological security, which in turn may affect the crisis management during the Covid-19 crises. Uncertainty was a significant aspect when looking at the results.

The effects of eco-tourism on rural land transformation in Mapungubwe National Park, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Makwela, Sethepele Elizabeth January 2022 (has links)
Thesis (M.Dev. (Planning and Management)) -- University of Limpopo, 2022 / Globally, eco-tourism has been recognised as a tool to enhance rural land transformation, mostly in areas and around eco-tourism destinations or those rich with natural resources. With that, literature has confirmed that there is a well-established principle between eco-tourism and rural land transformation in most countries across the globe. Theoretically, the establishments and expansion of eco-tourism do not necessarily bring only rural land transformation and associated benefits to the society but also entail various challenges. The challenges are inclusive of but not limited to threats to indigenous cultures and environmental degradation. Thus, this study was designed and undertaken to explore the effects of eco-tourism on rural land transformation in Mapungubwe National Park. The study utilised both qualitative and quantitative research methods and both qualitative and qualitative data was collected theoretically and empirically on the effects of eco-tourism on rural land transformation. Data collection techniques included semi-structured questionnaires with a sample size of 43 respondents, interview schedules for 8 respondents and observations. Recordings of the interviews with the participants were transcribed and analysed including the findings which emanated from this investigation. The findings reveal that eco-tourism does play an important part in ensuring improvement of the Musina local municipal area’s economy, where the Mapungubwe National Park is located. However, there still seems to be lot that needs to be done to ensure eco-tourism is sustainable to ensure there is rural land transformation and economic growth by eliminating damage to the natural ecosystems. Economic growth is always affected by the changing environments, either negatively or positively and there, the concept always comes in where tourism is concerned. The minimal positive impact it was making is improving some people’s lives and through job creation (South African National Parks, 2006). The study revealed that eco-tourism does have positive effect on rural land transformation in the Mapungubwe National Park, which include economic growth through tourist attraction. The researcher is of the view that ecotourism is playing significant role in the rural land transformation of Mapungubwe National Park.
