Previous issue date: 2014-06-06 / This research investigates how functionality, rationality, and emotionality applied to urban furniture design contribute to the organization, legibility, and qualification of public spaces, according to different layouts, physical and visual qualities of the urban furniture as well as the quality of urban infrastructure that may influence the uses and appropriation of urban spaces by pedestrians, turning those spaces into socially centripetal or centrifugal places. The work consists of two parts. First refers to a bibliographical review concerning two main issues of the investigation: product design and legibility of public space, defining the conceptual and theoretical bases, linked to methodological strategies aimed at systemic planning and integrated management of urban furniture design and legibility of public spaces (sidewalks), that are necessary to define the existing relationships among the user s interface (pedestrians); product (urban artifacts); built environment (sidewalks). The second part refers to the achievement of empirical approach throughout visual analysis of public spaces and the functional and qualitative evaluation of the existing urban furniture in the central neighborhood of Cidade Alta, Natal, RN, according to the theoretical researched concepts and methodological procedures. The results expose the weaknesses and levels of intensity arising from the relations among public space, urban furniture, and users, revealing the need for theoretical and practical approaches which would help the decision-making in planning, designing and integrating innovative, sustainable, and ethical solutions in order to design attractive public spaces that could provide sociability and citizenship throughout integrated public management, city systemic thinking and urban identity. The suggested guidelines at the end of this research will provide the necessary strategies to design suitable urban furniture systems according to aesthetic and practical urban infrastructure and city context, aiming to ease visual and physical conflicts that may negatively interfere with the appropriation of public spaces by the citizens / Esta pesquisa investiga como os conceitos da funcionalidade, da racionalidade e da emotividade aplicados ao design de mobili?rio urbano influenciam na organiza??o, legibilidade e qualifica??o dos espa?os p?blicos, em fun??o do arranjo f?sico proposto, da qualidade f?sica e visual do mobili?rio e da qualidade da infraestrutura do ambiente urbano, podendo alterar os usos e apropria??o desses espa?os pelos pedestres, transformando-os em locais socialmente centr?petos ou centr?fugos.

False Memories (FM\'s) are memory errors that occur when people remember situations that did not happen, events not witnessed, or when the memory of the facts are distorted. The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of false memories in a short-term task using the Deese-Roediger-McDermott (DRM) procedure. We planned out two experiments: the first experiment is an adaptation based on the Coane, McBride, Raulerson and Jordan (2007) experiments and it was performed by 12 participants. Sets of memorized words (CPM) composed of 3, 5 or 7 items and type of test (target, critical distractor and distractor not related) were manipulated within subjects. The main dependent variable was the reaction time (RT). The variable type of test was statistically significant, while the interaction between CPM and CPM x type of test were not statistically significant. The second experiment was performed by two groups of 12 participants. In the group 1 the retention interval was 750ms, while in the group 2 the retention interval was 1500ms. We also manipulated the CPM, the type of test and the emotionality / valence (positive, neutral and negative) of the words. The retention interval was not statistically significant, while the type of test and the CPM were statistically significant. The variable emotionality / valence (positive, neutral and negative) was not statistically significant. In general, the data replicate the Coane et al\'s work, except in the experiment 1, in which the CPM was not significant. The presence of FMs in the two experiments shows the generality and robustness of this phenomenon, widely found in the literature. The results were discussed in terms of the main theories about the phenomenon of false memories.

This discertation has its focus on the empiric interest of the search and the construction of the solidary relationships that were built as a result of the Agênda Colômbia-Brasil constitution. This text inquires the way in which due to the narratives related with social and political conflicto in Colombia discussions about solidary relationships between different political contexts. This work tries to stablish how emotional actions lead to solidary potical process which knotted in the same time experiences on brazilian militans and migrants of differetn political parties and political movements. In the same way this work claims for the emergency escenarios of this type of political organization and its positioning on a transnational political space. This work understands that this positioning occurs from stablishing a conceptual framework of enunciation based on the practice “give out” a determines context of the conflicto. The contribution of temperament to children's happinessKlassen, Andrea Nicole 11 1900 (has links)
The relation between temperament and happiness in children aged 8-12 was
examined. Participants included 311 students in Grades 4-6 and their parents, recruited from
public and private schools in the Central Okanagan. Parents rated their children’s
temperament using the Emotionality, Activity, and Sociability (EAS) Temperament Survey
(Buss & Plomin, 1984) and rated their children’s happiness using a single-item measure.
Children rated their own temperament using the EAS Temperament Survey and the Piers-
Harris Self Concept Scale for Children, Second Edition (Piers-Harris 2) (Piers & Herzberg,
2002). Children also rated their own happiness using a single-item measure, the Oxford
Happiness Scale, Short Form (Hills & Arygle, 2002), and the Subjective Happiness Scale
(Lyubomirsky & Lepper, 1999). Confirmatory factor analyses established that parent and
child ratings on the EAS Temperament Survey conformed to the four-factor structure
proposed by Buss and Plomin (1984). Multiple regression analyses revealed that
temperament accounted for between 9-29% of the variance in children’s happiness
depending on the rater (i.e., parents vs. children) and the measure of happiness. Individual
temperament variables that predicted a unique amount of the variance of children’s happiness
over and above the combined effect of all temperament variables varied with the rater of
children’s temperament (i.e., parents vs. children) and with the measure of happiness.
Children who were more social, less shy, less emotional, and more free from anxiety rated
themselves, and were rated by others, as happier. Children who scored higher on the activity
temperament rated themselves, and were rated by others, as happier. The results of the
current study parallel results of research investigating the relation between happiness and
personality in adults. It establishes a strong relation between temperament and happiness, and

Emocionalita dětí, v jejichž rodinách probíhalo domácí násilí / Emotionality of children who experienced domestic violence in their familiesBenešová, Klára January 2017 (has links)
This thesis studies a specific population of children exposed to domestic violence. The theoretical part is focused on the impacts of domestic violence on emotionality and emotional development of children. It also deals with the problematic aspects of children's emotionality that are believed to be disturbed by this traumatizing experience. These particular areas were chosen based on present studies focused on the children exposed to domestic violence. The empirical part of the study was developed in cooperation with the Locika centre. It studies chosen aspects of children's emotionality in a quantitative and qualitative way. Particularly, it investigates the ability to distinguish emotions and the ability of emotion regulation within the overall cognitive development.

Převod prvků jazykové expresivity při simultánním tlumočení / Linguistic Elements of Expressivity in French to Czech SimultaneousHerák, Jakub January 2015 (has links)
The central focus of this Master's thesis is to describe the ways the elements of linguistic expressivity used in political speeches are transformed in French-to-Czech simultaneous interpreting. In the introductory part of the present thesis, we provide a summary of previous research on the means of expressivity in political speeches, which is completed by a description of the process of simultaneous interpreting. In this way, we intend to define possibilities of transfer of expressive elements in the French-to-Czech language combination. The second part consists of an in-depth contrastive analysis of original French and Czech political speeches followed by a comparison of the former with their interpreted versions. In the third step, we compared the original Czech speeches with interpretations. Using our own methodology, we assessed collected data and came to the conclusion that in French-to- Czech simultaneous interpreting, expressivity rate decreases. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Emocionalita fanouškovské komunity seriálu Hra o trůny v éře konvergentní kultury / Emotionality of the Game of Thrones Fandom in the Era of Convergence CultureHolá, Markéta January 2020 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the topic of emotionality of the Game of Thrones fandom in the era of convergence culture. Game of Thrones, which had been on air since 2011 to 2019, became a hit show which gained millions of supporters and each new season was highly anticipated among public. During the course of all eight seasons, the show caused numerous heated controversies. Final season left both viewers and critics torn. This master's thesis is therefore interested in detecting and describing emotions of the Game of Thrones fan community during the time that the final season had been on air. Apart from emotionality, emphasis is also put on the characteristics of the show and its fandom. Reasearch was carried out online via the method of participant observation in six comments sections on the fan website Watchers on the Wall.com. Insomuch as fandom is connected to convergence culture, media convergence and audience participation, these topics are also covered. The term fandom is defined and the difference between audience and fandom is described. Last but not least, terms such as collective intelligence and knowledge community, which are also associated with fandom, are defined as well. All findings and the answers to research questions are then presented in the summary.

"Literally giving the main character vibes" – Examining Emotional Capital and Parasocial Relationships on YouTubeKruhlinskaya, Marta January 2022 (has links)
In an ever-evolving social media landscape, online communication has become more prone to the revelation of our affective states. In this study, I investigate how iterations of emotional capital, an extension of Pierre Bourdieu’s four forms of capital, shape social interaction in mediated relationships on YouTube, a platform that fosters a participatory culture. Previously, the field of media studies has devoted itself to the cognitive-behavioural effects of media consumption, allowing research on consumers’ emotionality as an influence on virtual sociality to be left behind. I attempt to elucidate the emotional footprint left by the discourse of the user comment by applying Marci D. Cottingham’s theorisation on emotional capital, paired with Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe’s Discourse Theory and by extension Discourse Theoretical Analysis expanded by Nico Carpentier et al on a sample of three sets of thirty most popular user comments, each attributed to a video by UK-based content creators Jade Bowler, Lucy Moon, and Venetia La Manna, to argue that the sociality found within their discourse is formed by the parasocial relationship the user exhibits towards the creator. Depending on the affective distance the user expressed towards the creator or to the other subscribers, different forms of emotional capital emerged - care and vulnerability derived from the address to self; inspiration, communication, encouragement stemming from the address to the community; and empathy and respect originating in the address to the creator. Thus, this study provides a novel outlook on mediated relationships in an online setting, where users actively, and more importantly, emotionally engage with themselves, their community, and the creator, to form affective social networks.
