Kommunikation från leverantör till kund kring engineer-to-order-artiklar : En flerfallsstudie av faktorer som påverkar kundens upplevelse av kommunikation från leverantör

Cederfeldt, Annika January 2019 (has links)

Engineers as entrepreneurs : entrepreneurial orientation of engineers in South Africa

Nonyane-Mathebula, Beauhania Thobisile 18 June 2011 (has links)
A positive relationship between economic growth and entrepreneurship has been established as derived from the body of knowledge in the domain of entrepreneurship. In acknowledgement of this relationship, governments have embarked on schemes and policies that encourage entrepreneurship in their economic development policies. The individual entrepreneur is a key player in new entrepreneurial venture process. The entire society is responsible for shaping an environment within which a behaviour pattern that promotes or hinders entrepreneurship is developed. The study mainly focused on understanding the behavioural phenomenon which is termed entrepreneurial orientation (EO) of engineers within the South African context. The assumed EO of entrepreneurial engineers was expected to be higher than that of non-entrepreneurial engineers. Cronbach Alpha’s tests found the prestructured EO scale to be reliable. T-test results for mean difference confirmed that entrepreneurs have a higher EO on the overal EO construct as well as on the autonomy, proactiveness and risk taking dimemensions.Factor analysis results supported the view that the EO construct is unidimensional. Situational factors that shaped the social environment alluded to above were studied as a secondary objective. Chi-square tests did not confirm the expectation that entrepreneurial engineers would be exposed to situational factors that promote entrepreneurship than their non-entrepreneurial counter parts. Lack of entrepreneurial education and finance have been identified as the key factors that hamper entrepreneurship. Recommendations are included in this report.Copyright / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

A digital native or snowflake? : The perceptions of job satisfaction by millennial engineers in Sweden.

Bakhshi, Betty January 2020 (has links)
Millennials are a generation mentioned frequently both in research and in popular media. Popular media often describes the millennials as disloyal, sensitive and difficult. The scholarly research regarding millennials is largely based on generation cohort, which is a concept that each generation has specific characteristics. These stereotypes have actual consequences on organizations and society. This thesis uses generational cohort theory, applied it to millennial engineers in Sweden. A study by Kultalahti and Viitala (2014) investigated job satisfaction for millennials by applying Herzberg two–model theory. Herzberg two–model theory explains that two factors exist for job satisfaction, one factor which is motivational factor which increase job satisfaction. The second factor which is described as hygiene factors can only lower job dissatisfaction. This thesis will be based on the work  by Kultalahti and Viitala (2014) but will focus on millennial engineers in Sweden. The thesis will investigate millennial stereotype applied to engineers in Sweden. The thesis will include a literature review which contains relevant theories regarding millennials, job satisfaction and other motivational theories. The data collection is done by conducting 20 interviews with millennial engineers working in Sweden. The results indicated that the millennial engineers conform to some stereotypes but not all. The respondents value salary, flexibility and work–life balance which can all be connected to existing stereotypes. The thesis investigates job satisfaction and the results can be used as an insight for organizations on how to further understand job satisfaction for millennial engineers.

Do Players Perceive Emotional Content in Ambiances in Games?

Carlsson, Arvid January 2023 (has links)
Ambience or ambient sound is normally defined as the background sounds that are used to create a sense of atmosphere. This paper is about players, and if they perceive emotional content in ambiences in games. The study involved the creation of two game levels, a dense forest and a meadow, with two different sound designs each, one conveying joy and the other melancholy. The aim of the experiment was to determine whether the participants could detect the intended emotional content. The results indicated that the peaceful emotion was easier to detect than the melancholy one. The majority of participants rated the levels similarly. While it may be challenging to create an intended emotional response in players, the study concludes that ambiences can indeed be perceived as having emotional content.

An Investigative Study of the Difficulties Experienced by Engineers Transitioning into Leadership/Management Positions

Wilde, Joseph Alan 18 March 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The traditional engineering career has been defined by two career paths: technical and managerial. An entry level engineer typically did not elect his/her career path until at least five years into a career. This meant that only a portion of engineers needed to learn management and leadership skills and then usually not until in the professional environment. Since this career distinction was not made until years into an engineer's professional life universities were not developing leadership/management skills in their students. Times have changed. With the globalization of the economy, and the increased competition in the marketplace, companies have realized that they need entry level engineers that are capable of working on multi-functional and multi-cultural teams, leading small work groups, and understanding the business and societal impact of engineering decisions. These skills are so critical that every engineer, regardless of their chosen track will need them to have a successful career. Universities are now being pressured to develop these skills in all of their engineering students. The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the difficulties experienced by engineers as they transition into formal management positions in order to help universities and industry direct their efforts in the development of key leadership/management skills. The survey used for this study was centered on two works of research. The first is research conducted by Allen Howard for his PhD dissertation in which he identifies 9 common points of difficulty, or pain points, experienced by engineers transitioning into management. The second is a managerial aptitude test developed by Hans Thamhain. The survey was distributed to 220 engineering managers at a large engineering company. The results of the survey were statistically analyzed and significant results were found among a number of factors. Among the independent variables found to significantly affect the transition were engineering discipline, graduate degrees, one's managerial aptitude, the reason one chose to enter management, and graduation year. Perhaps the most beneficial result is that one pain point was found to be highly correlated to every other pain point.

Improving the Quality of Scheduling Decisions for the Engineering Function

Grabenstetter, Douglas H 15 December 2012 (has links)
The Engineer to Order (ETO) model is used by a significant number of manufacturers across multiple sectors. Indeed, ETO firms comprise approximately one fourth of all North American manufacturing and are growing at a rate of twenty percent (Cutler [10]). In the ETO environment, the engineering process is the largest controllable consumer of lead-time in ETO firms. Since one half of the total lead-time is typically consumed by the engineering process, it is a critical task to accurately set the due date and later sequence the jobs in queue. However, unlike other manufacturing models such as Make to Stock or Make to Order, the product for each order is unique. Hence the resulting design is not realized until after the engineering process has been completed an the only information available is limited to information which has been gathered during the quoting stage of the order fulfillment process. These facts drive uncertainty into the front-end process. Therefore, the question becomes how does one predict the job difficulty let alone the due date in a complex transactional process when the job has not even been designed yet? In regard to the state of the art for the topic of design complexity, due date setting and sequencing, there is an abundance of research. Unfortunately little of it is aimed at the ETO environment. Additionally, there is not an agreed upon way in the literature to define complexity nor is there one overarching methodology for assessing complexity. Therefore, this research investigates the topics of job complexity, due date setting and job sequencing in the context of the Engineer to Order model. Analytical research is conducted with in conjunction with multiple ETO firms and several common factors are identified which drive complexity in the ETO engineering environment. These complexity factors are can be used is as an input to the accurate prediction of flow times for the ETO engineering process as well as sequencing. The research results in new innovative approaches for complexity assessment, due date setting and sequencing which outperform existing approaches.
