Sustentabilidade da pesca direcionada ao Camarão-sete-barbas, Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Heller, 1862), no litoral norte do Estado de São Paulo / Sustainability of the seabob shrimp fishery, Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Heller, 1862), on the northern coast of São Paulo

Venancio Guedes de Azevedo 27 September 2013 (has links)
Research efforts included surveys on the inherent variables, interactions and results, including the related economic aspects and the socio-economic profiling of the fishers engaged in this fishery. Results indicated that there are three distinct fleets. Those fleets operated in similar ways, shared the same fishing grounds and landed the production at the same landing sites, but had differences regarding income. It was found that the fuel had the highest impact on the economic cost of the fishing operations for all fleets, and the small profit difference per fisher found between vessels associated to fishing cooperatives in relation to those independently funded do not encourage coop adherence. The socio-economic survey indicated that fishing profits represent the main source of income for the fishers households. The outputs of the socio-ecologic system method applied to the data suggest that social performance actions plus the regional ecosystem resilience are the leading indicators of the sustainability of this system. In addition, the positive and negative points that maintain, increase or decrease the sustainability were also identified

Accounting for the Distribution of Adverse Birth Outcomes in Ontario: A Hierarchical Analysis of Provincial and Local Outcomes

Williams, David Neil 29 April 2013 (has links)
Background: Adverse birth outcomes present a difficult and chronic challenge in Ontario, in Canada and in developed countries in general. Increasing proportions of preterm births, significant regional disparities and the high cost of treating all adverse birth outcomes have focused attention on explaining them and developing effective treatments. Methods: Birth outcomes and maternal characteristics for approximately 626,000 births, about 90% of births in 2005–2009, were linked to small geographic areas throughout Ontario. For each of four adverse outcomes: late preterm, moderate to very preterm, small for gestation age and still births, proportions of total births were calculated for the full province and for each small geographic area. Geographic hotspots of elevated rates were identified for each of the different adverse birth outcomes using the local Moran’s I statistic. Data for nine known ecologic and individual risk factors were then linked to the areas. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to model each of the outcomes for the full province and for dispersed local areas. The resulting models for the different outcomes were contrasted. Results: Significant geographic hotspots exist for each of the four outcomes. Hotspots for the different outcomes were found to be largely spatially exclusive. For like outcomes, predictive models differed markedly between local areas (i.e. local groups of hotspots) as well as between full-province and local areas. Ecologic level variables played a strong role in all models; the influence of individual level risk factors was consistently modified by ecologic risk factors except for small for gestational births. Conclusions: The finding of significant hotspots for different adverse birth outcomes indicates that certain geographic areas have aetiologies or patterns of predictors sufficient to create significantly elevated levels of particular outcomes. The finding that hotspots for the different adverse outcomes are largely exclusive implies that the aetiologies are specific; i.e., those that are sufficient to create significantly higher levels for one outcome do not also create significantly higher levels of others. The consistently strong role of ecologic level risk factors in modifying individual level risk factors implies that contextual characteristics are an important part of the aetiology of adverse birth outcomes. Differences in local area models suggest the existence of location-specific (rather than universal) aetiologies. The findings support the need for more careful attention to local context when explaining birth outcomes.

This work dealt with two instruments created by the Brazilian Government to support the environmental management in the context of the Brazilian National Plan for Coastal Management (PNGC), using the city of Rio Grande (RS) as a case study. Such instruments were the Geographical Information System of the Coastal Zone (SIGERCO) and the Coastal Ecological-Economic Zoning (ZEEC). It consisted of the organization and integration of data in the SIGERCO in a manner that can assist the development of a simple methodology for the elaboration of the ZEEC. There is strong demand that coastal cities elaborate their ZEEC; however, previous experiences have used methodologies and results that do not follow the criteria and classification defined in the PNGC. For ZEEC construction, the definition of Environmental Management Units (EMU’s) is necessary. Therefore, diverse types of territorial division already elaborated in the city area were compiled. Geomorphology was chosen for defining the geographical limits of the EMUs, based on previous experiences in literature. The criteria defined by the PNGC for the ZEEC are subjective, making an enormous gamma of distinct zonings possible, depending on the weights attributed to each criterion and the chosen class breaks. In this work, four ZEEC experiments were evaluated and compared, as well as a ZEEC following the State of Santa Catarina zoning and the zoning approved in the Municipal Environmental Plan (PLAM) of Rio Grande. The SIGERCO organized for this city can represent a large improvement in comprehension and diffusion of scientific knowledge to decision-makers. However, it has to be available on the internet, and constantly updated. The ZEEC methodology proposed in this work demands few data for its elaboration, consisting basically of geomorphological and land-use maps and socio-economic data collected by IBGE. This makes possible the fast adequacy of zonings already elaborated and the construction of new ones for the entire Brazilian coast. Moreover, the establishment of criteria weights and class breaks must be carried out through public consultations, involving decision-makers, scientific community and organized civil society. Although it did not follow the established methodology, the ZEEM approved in the PLAM did not present large spatial differences in the uses proposition when compared to the ZEEC. Therefore, the ZEEM must be tested in the real world and periodically be revised. This would be a good opportunity for adjusting it to the criteria considered in the National Plan for Coastal Management.

Third Millennium Park and the ecological and urban structure in Bogota DC - Colombia

Nelson Domingo Dueñas Pinto 14 October 2009 (has links)
Since 2000 the concept of Ecologic Structure has been incorporated as part of the territorial reorganization of Bogota D.C., and is being interpreted as a fundamental category in the spatial reorganization of the territory, with a specific function: sustain and drive the biodiversity and the territorys essential ecological processes. The large scale urban parks which until that year were visualized as separated pieces in the urban landscape providing recreation to inhabitants- were incorporated as an essential system in the territorys order thru the concept of Ecological Structure; as such, the metropolitan urban park or large scale park acquired an environmental compromise that until then was not recognized. Under this context, the Third Millennium Metropolitan Park (2000-2005) was conceived as a piece of urban renovation in the area of the city presenting the most physical, social and environmental detriment in the downtown core and it was located where the rivers San Francisco and San Agustín meet. It should be noted that these two Rivers have been water bodies of great importance since the foundation of the city. Given the purpose of the project and its strategic location as an integral part of the Ecological Structure of Bogota, the Third Millennium Park was visualized as a great opportunity to contribute to the improvement of the citys ecosystem, the recovery of the natural hydrological system, the re-naturalization of the network of ecological corridors and the transformation of the downtowns landscape. The way of these diverse purposes came together during the conception, proposal and implementation of this park is precisely the starting point for this investigation. The Third Millennium Park meets the conditions that turn it into an opportunity to reflect about the linkages and potential contradictions that exist between the environmental speech represented by the concept of ecological structure- and the proposal and implementation of a concrete project. This is how the methodology benefits an analysis of the thoughts and ideas contained in the proposal documents of the project. For this reason the following actions are being conducted: a critical analysis of the Ecological Structure concept; an evaluation of how the city occupied its territory from a historical and scale perspective; research of the designs and studies of the three projects that conformed the conceptualization of the park and its relationship with the Ecological Structure; and a thorough analysis of the relationship between the park and the watershed. This research established among other aspects that there is a disconnect between the environmental speech and the implemented project, that it is pertinent that the scholars and the municipal administration perform a more comprehensive analysis quantitative and qualitative- about the hydrological system of the city, and lastly, that it is necessary implementing new methodologies and analysis elements to correct the deficiencies that were found in the proposal and construction of urban projects belonging to the ecological structure, as it was the case with the Third Millennium Park.

LIVS-ansvar : Hållbar utveckling i mindre livsmedelsbutiker

Forselius, Emelie, Olsson, Anne-sofie, Stensson, Julia January 2020 (has links)
Problem statement & purpose: Sustainability and environmentally friendly products have become an important topic in the last years, primarily when it comes to production and consumption of food. In 2015, the UN presented seventeen global goals for sustainable development, which have the ambition to achieve social, environmental, and economical sustainability. In a smaller context, affects how companies should work sustainably. In an early stage in the study, we discovered that national regulations of establishing sustainability apply to larger companies. Therefore, the purpose of the study focus on answering how smaller grocery stores implements ecologic, economic, and social sustainability within their organization by control means and the challenges may arise. Method: This is a qualitative cross-sectional study with an abductive approach. The empirical section is conducted from semi-structured interviews and observations. Conclusions: Interpretation of the material has led the study to several conclusions, among others that the store's course of action when it comes to the sustainability work depends on whether the business group's management control is centralized or decentralized. As well that the control means are important to implement sustainability, especially the informal and informative ones when it comes to inspiring staff and the rest of society. Also, that challenges in maintaining and developing sustainability are due to laws and regulations, but also a low demand for sustainable products from customers.

Elisha, Christian Hervé 08 May 2024 (has links)
This thesis endeavors, through the examination of Lynn White's article on the historical roots of the ecological crisis, to advance an ecological theology that is specific to evangelical Christian communities. After constructively engaging with the three voices of the evangelical tradition, we go on to explore the contribution that Pope Francis's encyclical *Laudato si'* brings to evangelical theology on the subject of the ecological crisis. At the heart of this project is the effort to establish a bridge between evangelical theology and the message of Pope Francis's encyclical *Laudato si'*. This comparison looks at the point of intersection between the Catholic position and the evangelical view, always in light of Lynn White's criticism. The sustainable ecology that the Pope proposes has the potential to nourish and enrich evangelical reflection, which leads towards healthy and responsible environmental practice in evangelical Christian communities. Our analysis of the evangelical position and the message of *Laudato si'* leads us to recognize in the work of *Laudato si'* the importance of integral ecology, which must be at the heart of our actions as Christians in God's creation.

Stavebně technologický projekt bytového domu v Liberci / Construction technological project of residential building in Liberec

Plachý, Jakub January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deal with phase of construction, which is foundation and upper construction of apartment building Komenského in Liberec. Building is situated in built-up and green area. Foundation circumstances is half difficult because of lower water included in soil. In this phase, we use formowork for columns, walls and roof. Used formwork is from Peri company, Quatro, Trio and Multiflex. There is suteren in the house, and because of lower water and high index of radon, we have to protect structure by compact waterproof isolation. This project contains formwork schematics and the time calculation needed to protect concrete until accomplishment. Other task is thermal review of constructions.
