"A gente não pensava nisso..." : educação para a sexualidade, gênero e formação docente na região da Campanha/RS / “We never thought about it…” : education for sexuality, gender, and teaching education in the area of the southernmost plains of Rio Grande do Sul stateHampel, Alissandra January 2013 (has links)
This paper discusses and analyses the importance of including themes like gender and sexuality in the teaching formative process of teachers in the Região da Campanha [The Southernmost Plains Area] within the viewpoint of education for sexuality to be overviewed under a broader bias, taking into account the cultural, social, and historical aspects related to these themes. This was a qualitative-approach research, including technical supplies from Cultural Studies and Gender Studies after a poststructuralist perspective, employing focal group techniques with undergraduate students in the Pedagogy Major of Universidade da Região da Campanha [Southernmost Plains Area University] . Across six meetings discussions were proposed aiming toward musing upon and exposing some concepts related to the field of Education for Sexuality and those representations expressed by means of cultural artifacts like tunes and literary works that somehow showed the ways of being and living in this area of the Rio Grande do Sul state. The curricula in the Pedagogy major was also researched, as well as those of middle-level teaching formation courses in order to spot whether those included courses focused on gender, sexuality, and diversity issues. Results pointed to the importance of understanding schools as ground spaces for the formative years and that discourses and practices carried out by them affect the ways of being and facing the world, allowing for the surfacing of the responsibility of looking upon the aforementioned educational spaces in the way of reviewing its actions, structures, concepts, and powers. After pinpointing the difficulties presented by the faculty bodies when working with sexuality and gender relations issues at class, this thesis intends to raise a debate and gather subsidies to allow for the thinking about a formative curriculum able to satisfy those demands now extant in the schools of the Campanha region. Departing from this it would be interesting to propose a sort of teaching that might embody those viewpoints that would bring up the thematic, exposing and discussing sexuality as a social construction and not as something exclusively biological, subjected to norms and bound to be discarded or left out of the school environment.

The present research aims to investigate the construction of sexuality of deaf students in a State school for the deaf. It´s a "pole school" abstracting a medium-sized town, located in the interior of the State of São Paulo in Brazil. The methodological approach used in this research was qualitative, through observation, round-table discussions and semi structured interviews. The themes to be worked were proposed throught these round-table discussions at which the students brought their concerns, doubts and necessities. All round-table discussion were recorded and transcribed. Deaf people integrate a linguistic minority, therefore, it is common that they don't feel belonging to the listener group inside and outside the school, once for this belonging to occur, communication is one of the essential factors. In this aspect, in school, the Deaf, do not receive the necessary information for their full development, for using Libras and most of the students do not know such a language, which makes difficult their learning. The lack of knowledge of Libra among those listeners who surround the Deaf and the little dissemination of this language, ends up leading to a distorted vision of multiple connections, including those that encompass the construction of sexuality. Therefore, this research has followed, investigated and increased the information about sexuality, brought by the deaf students' experiences of this "pole school", to identify the obstacles and challenges these students go through so as to promote with them debates, constructions and deconstructions of themes about sexuality.

Previous issue date: 2012-08-17 / This study is characterized as a critical case study of qualitative nature. It consists in the
development of several critical activities, focusing on gender and sexuality issues, in two
groups of English for beginners at the Centro de Línguas of Universidade Federal de Goiás
in 2010. The activities dealt with situations experienced by women and by the female students
themselves, when discussing women‟s double shift; different forms of experiencing gender,
when dealing with the Saturday routine of two transvestites; and alternative family
arrangements, other than those enforced by the hegemonic standard, when presenting families
of homosexual couples. The intention was to observe the reactions of the students to the
critical issues, the possibilities and challenges of carrying out critical teaching for beginners,
and my attitude as a teacher researcher when addressing these critical issues in the classroom.
The theoretical background is centered in the following topics and authors: Critical Applied
Linguistics (COX; ASSIS-PETERSON, 1999; FERREIRA, 2006; MOITA LOPES, 1999,
2006; PENNYCOOK, 1998, 2001, 2006); gender and sexuality (LOURO, 2007, 2010;
MOITA LOPES, 2002); critical teachers (GIROUX, 1997; SCHÖN, 1983, 2000; SMYTH,
1991; VAN MANEN, 1995, 2007, 2008). The students‟ reactions to the critical issues were
varied, among which we can point out comments, jokes, gestures and expressions of
embarrassment, detachment from the subject, silence, refusal in doing the activity, omission
of the issue, denial, and active participation in carrying out the oral or written activity. The
feasibility and the relevance of carrying out critical teaching for beginners were demonstrated
by the reflections performed by the students in written and oral activities, indicating the
development of a more pluralistic approach to gender and of their linguistic competence. As
for my attitude when addressing critical issues, I believe I have achieved reflection on action
(SCHÖN, 1983, 2000; VAN MANEN, 1995, 2008) by assuming a political attitude in the
choice of the issues and in the planning of the critical activities to be carried out in the
classroom. However, I had difficulty in performing reflection in action (SCHÖN, 1983, 2000;
VAN MANEN, 1995, 2008) since I had a tendency not to react to critical events that occurred
in the classroom. Thereby, I think I have reached the fourth moment of Smyth‟s critical
reflection (1991) since I reconstructed my practice, that is, when shifting the focus of my
lessons towards critical activities and issues, but I was not able to reconstruct my action with
regard to the attitude of not reacting to critical events. Consiste no
Crítica (COX; ASSIS-PETERSON, 1999; FERREIRA, 2006; MOITA LOPES, 1999, 2006;
A viabilidade e a
No

Éducation à la sexualité auprès d’un public à besoin éducatif particulier : l’exemple de la SEGPA / sex education for a public with special educational needs : the example of SEGPA classesRochigneux, Jean-Claude 21 December 2012 (has links)
In recent years, the French National Education system has put considerable emphasison health education, and notably on sex education, in redefining the missions of itsemployees. However changing policy and establishing new directives is not alwaysenough to generate new actions. This study attempts to improve our understanding ofthe representations and the teaching practices of stakeholders involved in sexeducation, and to identify factors impeding the implementation of sex education in 8thand 9th grade pupils of SEGPA classes, i.e. classes adapted for children with learningdisabilities in middle-schools. Questionnaires and interviews were applied to schoolmedical staff, to members of the direction, and to SEGPA teachers, the sex educationcontents textbooks were analysed, and a questionnaire was applied to more than 2508th and 9th grade pupils of SEGPA classes. Our findings indicate that in spite of pupilexpectations regarding sex education, many factors limit effective implementation ofsex education : the representations that educational staff have of sex education, teaching practices centred on transmitting biophysical information while more or lessneglecting the development of psychosocial competencies, the lack of training in sexeducation, the ineffective or non-implementation of Health and Citizenship EducationCommittees (CESC) in schools, and the reluctance of some educational staff toimplement sex education.

The Female Gaze: Reclaiming and Redefining Black Femininity and Sexuality in Sexual Health Discourse and EducationHall, Renata 11 1900 (has links)
Sex-education in Canada has predominantly been informed by an abstinence-based content, leaving the sexual literacy of adolescents hanging in the balance. As public health statistics indicate, sexually transmitted infection, early and unwanted pregnancy, and rates of HIV/ AIDS are staggeringly high. At the center of these statistics is the young Black female, as they are disproportionately over-represented in negative public health statistics. Many factors have been theorized to be the cause; from socioeconomic factors to educational limitations, it has been historically concluded that the individual failings and class issues of Black women are the root cause of sexual decision making that causes negative health implications. However, adopting a critical perspective may lead to a different conclusion.
This qualitative study sought to explore if the lack of comprehensive, racially attentive, and reflective sex-education as well as the influential societal discourse that shapes Black women and their sexuality in stereotypical lights, may have an impact on the sexual decision making of Black women. Through centering and highlighting the lived experiences, perspectives, and insights of a diverse pool of Black women, the stereotypes and scripts of Black femininity and sexuality, their root causes, and the impacts on young Black girl’s sexual decision making were captured to collaboratively redefine and reclaim Black femininity and sexuality while capturing what would be helpful to include in sex-education, specific to Black girls and women.
This study’s theoretical underpinnings are Black Feminist Theory, Critical Race Theory, and Hip-Hop Feminism, which has been coined by me as “the trifecta”. A focus group with Black female-identified participants was conducted and facilitated through open-ended question and discussion based processes. Thematic analysis was adopted to explore themes, meanings and to gain a better understanding of the participant’s collective perspectives regarding sex-education and Black femininity and sexuality. The main finding of this study, based in the lived experiences and insights of the participants, were that harmful societal scripts and stereotypes about Black femininity and sexuality historically and as they are presented in popular media, coupled with inconsistent and bare sex education, has the ability to affect the sexual decision making of young Black girls in a way that feeds participation in unsafe sexual practices.
This study fills gaps in literature because it contributes to the limited critical body of research that paramount the voices and insight of Black women in regards to sexual practice. This study also fills gaps by extending the conversation of Black women and sexual decision making, by suggesting tangible solutions of how the participant’s insights can be injected into larger policy and practice as well as social work research. The information supplied by the participants of this study will help social workers, policy makers, and educators create racially attentive, comprehensive, and accessible sex-education. / Thesis / Master of Social Work (MSW) / Sex-education in Canada has predominantly been informed by an abstinence-based content, leaving the sexual literacy of adolescents hanging in the balance.
