The aesthetic order of design, as a unifying concept for an educational programme

Nevin, Thomas Joseph, n/a January 1980 (has links)
The aim of this field study is to examine the following problem: To what extent has education operated on a limited and narrow perception of design principles and if so how could the implementation of the missing principles be achieved. The field study is composed of an analysis and an educational model incorporating three levels of education. In the analysis the aesthetic principles of design are investigated in relation to natural design to find out what constitutes good design. Then these design principles are used to reflect on modern social values and socio-economic behaviour. The insights gained from the socio-economic sphere are then used for analysis of education curriculum planning to see whether the principles presently used can be improved upon. Finally the Educational model using aesthetics as its central value is expressed as a possible answer to the problem.

Capitalising on South Africa's innovation resource through entrepreneurship in the creative industries

Riley, Kim 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2012. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Capitalising on South Africa’s innovation resource through entrepreneurship in the creative industries. In light of the current global challenges as well as local needs and opportunities, there is a need for improved utilisation of South Africa’s innovation resource. Due to designers possessing creativity and the ability to innovate, it is proposed that an increase in the quality and quantity of entrepreneurship activity in the creative sectors will have notable impacts on the sustainability, competitiveness and value of South Africa’s economic activity. It is argued that designers and creative individuals inherently possess a number of entrepreneurial traits and that design education promotes the development of many entrepreneurial behaviours. Thus, it is necessary to offset and maximise these skills with the requisite businessrelated cognitions, attributes and abilities. For this reason, this study looks at the contextual characteristics and needs of small businesses operating in South African design sectors. The objective is to provide relevant and practical suggestions for improving ‘effective’ entrepreneurial activity in the design industries. The current state of entrepreneurship education in a representative sample of South African entrepreneurship courses is analysed. The outcome of this process is used as a base-line in consulting a number of experts in the South African small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector, in order to ascertain the context-specific ‘success factors’ for small businesses in South Africa. Empirical data is then gathered regarding the current state of entrepreneurship and small business content in design education in South Africa. The results of all these processes are analysed in conjunction with the empirical results regarding the individually perceived abilities and attitudes of designers currently operating small businesses in South Africa. The outcome of this analysis is a framework describing the important elements (and relationships between elements) necessary in the development of effective entrepreneurial ability.

Análise documental do processo de capacitação dos multiplicadores do projeto \"Nossas Crianças: Janelas de Oportunidades\" no município de São Paulo à luz da promoção da saúde / Documental analysis of qualification process of new educators for the project \"Our Children: Windows of Opportunities\" at Sao Paulo city in light of health promotion

Oliveira, Alfredo Almeida Pina de 23 April 2007 (has links)
Conclui-se que, processos educativos embasados em pedagogias críticas favorecem a incorporação de um novo referencial para o cuidado infantil à luz do conceito positivo de saúde e a criação de um espaço acolhedor capaz de emancipar sujeitos para transformar os perfis de saúde-doença da população / Health Promotion represents a new pattern in health services organization and in the caring structure of health-disease process by recognizing and intervening in the existing potentialities of living and working styles in a particular historical and social moment. For such, one of the challenges for the Brazilian Health System consolidation refers to capability of work force in health in order to review the use of traditional pedagogy in educative processes and to contribute to biomedical model surplus, specially in the primary health services. In this perspective the project \"Our Children: Windows of Opportunities\", linked to Family Health Program, performed capability workshops which have extrapolated the attention to biological body, including also the emotional and social dimension of children care through strengthening of domestic capability. The objectives of this study were: to analyze the content, the strategies and capability evaluation methods in light of Health Promotion and to identify pedagogical tendencies which permeate such process. The documental analysis of this process was retrieved, which different records were classified, respectively, starting from Paulo Freire’s perspective and Health and Well-Being Dimensions of Ronald Labonte. Conclusion: the contents of Health Promotion diffused in the capability, have incorporated concepts such as equity, resilience, rights defense, emancipation, autonomy, patrimony, social networks, cooperation and participation in the contact with health professionals for children care through family. The qualification of new educators was based on critical pedagogical lines of thinking and represented by category: autonomy and freedom of people, be fond of students, objective and subjective completion, commitment with changes, permanent education of human being, horizontal power relations, praxis dialogical and critical mediation of reality. It is concluded that, educational processes based on critical pedagogy benefits the incorporation of a new reference for children care in light of positive concept of health and the creation of a friendly space able to emancipate subjects to transform the health-disease profile of population

The challenges of competency based education of Certified Public Accountant

Dextre Flores, José Carlos 10 April 2018 (has links)
The interest of this paper is based on presenting the importance of educational instruction today, in general and in particular the accounting career. This, it should be noted, is part of the development trends of cognitive skills, instrumental skills and values that a person must acquire during the education period at a higher educational institution, which will allow the graduate to be competent to begin the professional practice. The complexity that is involved in the public accountant career in both their education based on international standards like the attributes to be displayed in the quality of performance, has forced higher education experts to guide newways of undertaking the education strategy. This is accomplished through the adoption of models consistent with the demands of society and the employment market. Of these, competencies education is one of the models that best contribute to the learning process, allowing at the potential accounting professional to develop skills, abilities and attitudes needed to join into the labor market successfully. In this sense, the college, university, or an academic unit faculty, school, program) - they decided to adopt, provide and ensure competencies education, mustdo according to the guidelines proposed for teaching methodologies, social responsibility and the business world. Similarly, should be based on participatory action committed by students and teachers, and the respect for human values. Within this scheme, it must prioritize the humanistic education of the person in their professional projection.

Porovnání atraktivity výukových modelů a reálných zoologických preparátů pro žáky gymnázíí / Comparison of attractiveness of educational models vs. real mounted zoological specimens for secondary chool pupils

Šibravová, Jitka January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with the preference of pupils at secondary schools (gymnasia) for different types of teaching aids in zoology education. The main objective was to determine whether the pupils rate educational models as more attractive than the real zoological preserved specimens and whether their preferences are related to their susceptibility to potentially phobic stimuli, realism of the object or whether preferences differ between the sexes. Selected models included entire animals as well as animal organs. The research was conducted at selected secondary schools (gymnasia) in Prague and Jablonec nad Nisou using a questionnaire and a preference test. Secondary school pupils and their biology teachers participated in this research. The realistic design of each object was assessed by researchers and students from the Faculty of Science Charles University using a scale questionnaire. The results showed that students rated the real zoological preserved specimens as more attractive compared to teaching models, with no dependence on whether the objects were entire or anatomical. Effect of gender on overall preference has not been showed; however, the boys had a tendency to evaluate generally unpopular organisms more positively than girls. No influence of susceptibility to potentially phobic stimuli,...

Implementeringsfaktorer i skolans värld : En kvalitativ studie om de bakomliggande faktorerna till en lyckad implementering av en pedagogisk modell för lärare / Factors for implementation in the world of the school : A qualitative study of the underlying factors for a successful implementation of an educational model for teachers

Alyhr, Viktoria, Huss, Josephine January 2017 (has links)
Todays society is characterized by a constant change and development, which requires the school to develop at the same rate as the rest of society. The school should be equivalent to everyone. How can this be insured if we do not know which factors that affect the implementation of educational models? By ensuring the factors that affect implementation, better results can be achieved. This makes it more likely that the new educational model is used and becomes part of the everyday work. To make an implementation possible, a change work is carried out in the organization. We have conducted a qualitative study whose purpose is to study which factors teachers experience may affect the implementation of a new educational model in school. The survey has been conducted at three schools in a town in Sweden. The form of the interview has been semi-structured, two of which have been held in groups and one individual. Through the interviews we have acquired empirical evidence for our study. The result show that there are many different factors that affects, often in combination with each other, how well an implementation results in. The factors that are significant and have been made visible in our survey are the following: Relevance, attitude, advantageous, easy-to-use, customizable, coaching, support, time, participation, follow-up systems, clear results, culture and communication.
