Agile Practices in Commercial SaaS Teams : A case study on the adoption of agile practices in non-software teams

Petersen, Bruno January 2020 (has links)
Agile software development methods have seen great success in software teams. Research on the topic of adopting agile methods in development teams is extensive. In the literature key enabling factors are identified and numerous benefits of agile ways of working are named. Less attention has been payed to the non-software functions in software development organizations, though. Moreover, little is known about how well the enabling factors and benefits for software teams translate to other teams in the organization. The goal of this study is to evaluate what benefits agile methods provide to non-software teams, whether the enabling factors are similar and what the challenges and drawbacks for adopting agile methods in commercial teams are. Using the case of the Swedish Software-as-a-Service company Funnel, which introduced agile practices into their commercial teams, these questions are tackled. The study finds that knowledge transfer and governance are core areas that need to be engaged in during the adoption process. With decisions being made more autonomously ensuring the exchange of relevant information is crucial. The autonomy creates new demands for the governance structure, making a guiding vision and clear strategic direction crucial for individuals to remain capable of acting. An additional focus is laid on the interplay of organizational values and agile methods. The study concludes that the introduction of agile methods to commercial teams is beneficial for the organization and helps teams solve more complex problems. It further argues that the distinction drawn between agile practices and agile enablers is misleading because of the reciprocal dependence. Finally, it is argued, that the distinction of benefits and drawbacks arising from agile methods favors agile adoption as an end in itself. The actual benefit of adopting agile practices may lie with how it makes an organization practice change, engage proactively with organizational challenges and, as a consequence, develop a greater exaptive potential.

Approaching the journey of digital transformation in public sector culturalorganisations

Johansson, Corinne January 2022 (has links)
The public cultural sector in Sweden has been facing the challenges of digitalization over the last decade. The Swedish government has over these past years introduced various strategies and visions for taking advantage of the opportunities that digitalization provides. Due to the implications of the pandemic, many public cultural sector organisations were forced to go through some form of rapid digitalization. However, it is not known how these rapid digital efforts will affect the public cultural sector going forward. Digitalization is not a one-time event, a change in organisational strategy, processes and culture need to happen for digital transformation to occur. The case study of Malmö Opera examines the digitizing activities between 2017 - 2022 in the context of digital transformation. The results of the study showed that although digital efforts had been made prior to the pandemic, a rapid period of digitization occurred during the pandemic years. During 2020 and 2021 the organization took substantial strides in digital progress speed up by the impacts of the pandemic. After the restrictions lifted, digital developments in Malmö Opera were at a slow down due to a lack of dedicated recourses that had be available during the pandemic. The findings of this theses suggests that digital transformation is one way to face the challenges that digitalisation provides. By applying a framework or process for the digital transformation journey this provides a tool for decision makers for how to approach digital transformation on an organisational level.

Barriärer och möjligheter i det prehospitala omhändertagandet av akut sjuka barn / Barriers and anablers in the prehospital care for acutely ill children

Belfrage, Joneta, Stark, Nathalie January 2022 (has links)
Prehospital care can be hectic, with many factors that the nurse needs to consider. Caring for children in the ambulance can be challenging, mostly because these types of calls are few and far between. Statistics show that about 10 percent of all calls are with children, and fewer are calls with acutely ill children. It is therefore necessary to understand what barriers and enablers that exist to better take care of these patients. The aim of this study was to highlight barriers and enablers in the prehospital care of acutely ill children. The method chosen was an integrated literature review; 17 articles were included in the result; they were of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method design. The results were divided into two themes: Experiences of ambulance staff and Organizational prerequisites, with associated subthemes. The conclusion was that the care of the acutely ill child is complex and has to be conducted multifaceted. There are several barriers that can affect patient-safety but also a number of enablers to improve the care. The combination of stress and the challenges the ambulance staff face when caring for the acute ill child could lead to a risk of the patient-safety even if they had education and work experience. Stress could be a hindrance in swift and accurate care. The organization and employer of the ambulance staff could help optimize the care of these patients by giving the ambulance staff further education in the care of the acutely ill child. There also needs to be strategies in place for the ambulance staff on how to handle the sometimes traumatizing events that these types of jobs can lead to. This to ensure that the staff remain healthy, and a good sustainability can be achieved within the personal group.

A qualitative analysis to investigate the enablers of big data analytics that impacts sustainable supply chain / Investigation qualitative des facteurs qui permettent l’analyse de Big Data et la chaîne d’approvisionnement

Rodriguez Pellière, Lineth Arelys 27 August 2019 (has links)
Scholars and practitioners already shown that Big Data and Predictive Analytics also known in the literature as BDPA can play a pivotal role in transforming and improving the functions of sustainable supply chain analytics (SSCA). However, there is limited knowledge about how BDPA can be best leveraged to grow social, environmental and financial performance simultaneously. Therefore, with the knowledge coming from literature around SSCA, it seems that companies still struggled to implement SSCA practices. Researchers agree that is still a need to understand the techniques, tools, and enablers of the basics SSCA for its adoption; this is even more important to integrate BDPA as a strategic asset across business activities. Hence, this study investigates, for instance, what are the enablers of SSCA, and what are the tools and techniques of BDPA that enable the triple bottom line (3BL) of sustainability performances through SCA. The thesis adopted moderate constructionism since understanding of how the enablers of big data impacts sustainable supply chain analytics applications and performances. The thesis also adopted a questionnaire and a case study as a research strategy in order to capture the different perceptions of the people and the company on big data application on sustainable supply chain analytics. The thesis revealed a better insight of the factors that can affect in the adoption of big data on sustainable supply chain analytics. This research was capable to find the factors depending on the variable loadings that impact in the adoption of BDPA for SSCA, tools and techniques that enable decision making through SSCA, and the coefficient of each factor for facilitating or delaying sustainability adoption that wasn’t investigated before. The findings of the thesis suggest that the current tools that companies are using by itself can’t analyses data. The companies need more appropriate tools for the data analysis.

A Bridge to Sustainability: Influence of External Enablers on Immigrant Environmental Entrepreneurship Activities : The role of external enabler opacity and agency-intensity

Zalyte, Saule, Sulinskas, Mantas January 2023 (has links)
Background: Environmental challenges faced by humankind are creating various changes in the business environment. These changes are facilitating entrepreneurial activities for environmental sustainability. However, some actors, such as immigrant entrepreneurs, might face difficulties in identifying and exploiting the external enablers of entrepreneurial action for sustainability. Purpose: Considering the importance of sustainable development, the study aims to understand the role of external enablers for environmental sustainability in immigrant ventures. Thus, the study aims to investigate how ‘external enabler opacity and agency-intensity’ facilitate or hinder environmentally sustainable entrepreneurial activities among immigrant entrepreneurs. Method: The study employs a qualitative approach and utilizes a multiple case study methodology, with the primary method of semi-structured interviews. Inductively building upon the External Enabler Framework, the study integrates insights from external enablers, environmental entrepreneurship, and immigrant entrepreneurship literature. Conclusion: The study finds that low opacity and high agency intensity of external enablers limit immigrant ventures' involvement in environmental sustainability. Moreover, barriers immigrant entrepreneurs face compound these limitations, possibly leading to decreased competitiveness and missed opportunities. Contributing to the External Enabler Framework, the concept of enforcement is introduced as a novel cross-function of external enabler mechanisms, which facilitates immigrant ventures' engagement in environmentally sustainable activities.

Targeting Plastic Recycling Intentions : Insights from a Community-Based Social Marketing Approach

Dagarp, Veronica, Svensson, Johanna January 2023 (has links)
Mitigating the negative environmental impact of plastics is an important part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Despite plastics having great recycling potential, it is the waste fraction with the lowest recycling rate in Sweden (with 33% being recycled). Hence, efforts must be made to promote households' engagement in plastic recycling. Therefore, an informational campaign with the aim of increasing residents’ plastic recycling intentions was designed, using Community-Based Social Marketing. The campaign was made in collaboration with the real estate company Ikano Bostad, and was implemented in their residential area in Danderyd, Sweden. The campaign was running for 5 weeks and was designed and distributed as two posters, which addressed the context-specific barriers and enablers to plastic recycling among residents. To aid the design and evaluation of the campaign, the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) was applied for a deeper understanding of the underlying constructs of plastic recycling intentions. To measure the campaign's effectiveness, two questionnaires (one pre-campaign and one post-campaign) were distributed to the residents, consisting of 294 individuals, to obtain quantitative data about their intentions towards plastic recycling. The results did not show any empirical support for the campaign's effectiveness in increasing residents’ plastic recycling intentions. However, this study contributes important insights and recommendations for increasing future campaign effectiveness, such as highlighting the importance of empowering and motivating individuals and the benefits of conducting a profound pre-study before designing the campaign.

Vilka faktorer möjliggör digital innovation för organisationer inom techbranschen? : En studie som undersöker teori och praktik / What factors enable digital innovation for organizations in the tech industry? : A study that investigates theory and practice

Svan, Moa, Axelsson, Emilia January 2023 (has links)
Innovation is no longer just a path to benefits of various kinds but is crucial to the survival of organizations. The tech industry is an industry that is changing at record speed, and to survive and can compete in this industry, successful innovation work is required. The purpose of the study is to investigate and describe which factors enable digital innovation in the tech industry. To arrive at this, organizations operating in the tech industry have been examined regarding how they work to drive innovation work. To collect data, five open individual interviews have been used. The result shows that it is required that organizations spend time, commitment, resources, and energy on innovation. By using a post-industrial organizational structure, many other enablers of innovation are promoted from this. For those organizations that use a software or IT service or as a product, it is essential to use the Hackathon phenomenon to drive the radical innovation. In summary, it can be stated that digital innovation is a complex phenomenon and for organizations to succeed in pursuing it, there are many factors that they need to focus on. However, the study shows that what an organization chooses to put the focus on varies from organization to organization. This study was conducted in Swedish.

May the Forces be with you : A study of factors influencing companies transitioning to government-imposed net zero targets

Green Brzezinski, Jonatan, Kaftanoglu, Kamuran Kivanc January 2022 (has links)
The need to transition the global economy to net zero greenhouse gas emissions is clear. Commitments made by the majority of the world’s governments declare that a global net zero economy should be achieved by the middle of the century. What is less clear is how this transition should take place, or how these commitments impact companies. This paper explores senior management perspectives on a net zero transition, identifying drivers, enablers, and barriers to transitioning effectively. In line with Kurt Lewin’s work, we collectively refer to these as forces. Through 11 in-depth interviews and a quantitative survey to managers across several industries and geographies, we identify, rank, and visually conceptualise 26 forces that act on companies in the context of a net zero transition. The strongest driving force is ‘Societal awareness of climate change and net zero targets’, while the biggest current constraining force is ’Business priorities’. The force considered to have the single biggest potential impact is ‘government disincentives and bans’. Based on the collective analysis of our findings, there are possible policy implications that could be explored further in order to successfully manage a transition to net zero.
