Vuxna med förvärvad traumatisk hjärnskada - omställningsprocesser och konsekvenser i vardagslivet : en studie av femton personers upplevelser och erfarenheter av att leva med förvärvad traumatisk hjärnskada / Adults with acquired traumatic brain injury – the changeover process and consequences in every day life : a study of fifteen persons' experience of living with acquired traumatic brain injury

Strandberg, Thomas January 2006 (has links)
The overall purpose of this study is to illuminate the changeover process experienced by individuals who as adults acquired a traumatic brain injury (TBI), to increase the knowledge and the understanding of this process, and describe the meaning of support in every day life. Persons who acquired a TBI as adults were administered a semi-structured interview covering six areas: consequences of TBI, family and social networks, working life and occupation, life-changes, support from society and everyday life. The interviews were qualitative and in-depth. A total of 15 informants participated, aged between 19-53 years when injured. Data were structured and underwent two phases of analysis. In the first phase, data underwent latent content analysis, underpinned by a hermeneutic approach, and in the subsequent phase, reanalysed within a framework derived from the theory of social recognition. Findings from the first phase of inductive analysis elicited key themes: (i) the meaning of care, a question of formal and/or informal support; (ii) the meaning of action, a question of activity versus inactivity; (iii) autonomy, a question of dependence versus independence; (iv) social interaction, a question of encounter and/or treatment; (v) the theme of changes, a question of process versus stagnation; and (vi) emotions, an oscillation between hope versus hopelessness. After the construction of the six themes each of them were, through a discursive analysis, connected with theories, earlier studies in the field of brain injuries and important interview quotations from the empirical material. During this phase, an interest developed to study the material from a new theoretical point of view. The second phase of analysis therefore involved the development of a framework derived from Honneth’s (1995) theory of social recognition. The central construct of ‘recognition’ was analysed from three different dimensions proposed by Honneth: the individual dimension, the legal dimension, the value dimension. Using this framework, the data were reanalysed. The scientific term for this process of re-contextualisation and re-description of data is abduction inference. Reported consequences were negative as well as positive. Significant others (e.g. next of kin) had an important function as a driving force for training and preparation for life-situation after injury. A majority of the informants were satisfied with support from society, such as hospital-care, rehabilitation and community support. Such support, initially, proceeded without problems but as time passed, the responsibility shifted to the person with TBI to take the initiative in arranging longer-term services. Long-term support which addresses physical, cognitive as well as psychosocial consequences of the TBI is important for outcomes. The majority of the informants had difficulties in returning to working life after the injury. The outcomes and recovery seemed to be a prolonged process, probably never ending, but which gradually over time becomes integrated as a part of life. The informants gave varying accounts of the extent to which they experienced social recognition.

The attitudes of typically-developing children towards participation with their siblings with severe speech and language disabilities

Hansen, Maryke 29 August 2012 (has links)
Sibling relationships and the interaction within these relationships play a central role in children’s general development and will therefore impact on functional outcomes of children with severe speech and language disabilities. Siblings of children with disabilities have often felt excluded from family interactions, possibly causing negative attitudes towards participation with their siblings, in turn impacting negatively on the functional outcomes of their siblings with disabilities. The main aim of this research is to determine the attitudes of typically-developing children towards participation with their younger siblings with severe speech and language disabilities in four everyday life situations, namely: play (major life areas), communication, activities of daily living as part of domestic life and interpersonal relationships (time and responsibility issues). Twenty-seven older, typically-developing siblings of children with severe speech and language disabilities were selected to complete the measuring instrument (SAS). The results indicated that the participants held the most positive attitudes towards participation in play (major life areas) but that they held less positive attitudes towards communication participation and that they were least positive about participation in interpersonal relationships (time and responsibility issues). This study succeeded in documenting attitudes of siblings towards participating in four everyday life situations with their younger sibling. It is envisaged that these results will provide tentative guidelines for how activity-based interventions can best be structured to support both the child with a disability and their sibling. Stravování rakousko-uherské armády za první světové války pohledem vojáků z českých zemí / Feeding of the Austro-Hungarian Army during the First World War as seen by soldiers from the Czech Lands

Bjaček, Petr January 2017 (has links)
The topic of this diploma thesis is the feeding of soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army during the period of the First World War. The aim was to analyze this topic from the perspective of ordinary actors - soldiers and non-commissioned officers. The thesis is structured into six parts leaving aside the introduction and the conclusion. The first chapter treats some psychological aspects of the alimentation within the thematic scope of this thesis. The second part continues with text dedicated to the eating habits of the Czech society at the beggining of the 20th century being as the starting point of the cultural change, which was a draft to the army. It is followed by an introduction to the military environment while emphasis is placed on the social and emotional connotations of meals. The next part focuses on war fatigue and misery, which turned the ladder of moral and market values upside down and caused a deep transformation of society. The last chapter compares the different approaches to the resources inside of the Austro-Hungarian Army to the dietary standards of the allied and hostile armies, while focusing on the effect on the morale and companionship of soldiers. As for its sources, the thesis relies on the Czech written sources of personal nature from the Czech soldiers of the...

Living with a constant flood risk ? : Ethnography of a wealthy neighbourhood in a threatened area.

Durand, Séverine 02 June 2014 (has links)
Risk management policies promote prevention and call to develop a "risk culture" in hazardous areas to avoid the phenomenon of forgetting about risk , that can be found after a disaster. This thesis has sought to question this possibility by investigating how we live, in everyday life, in flood-prone areas. Through an ethnographic piece of work, in particular a "discreet resident observation", the thesis questions what circulates about flooding between inhabitants and how they organize their practices in relation to the risk. The field study, Lattes, is an upper middle-class suburban neighbourhood located in the south east of France (Mediterranean coast). It was built on wetlands and therefore remains vulnerable to flash floods. This case study provides insight into the mechanisms - built collectively - from "invisible danger" implementation. The increased visibility of the protection made by local policies and the comforting effect of normative sharing provided a normalization of the trust in the protection. Through the interactions, statements are continually developed in the interests of their acceptability. Thus, it is more comfortable to "de-dramatize" than to dramatize: statements of relativism circulate more than the ones that open on the horizon of danger. Moreover, the current development of a "logic of safety" for urban risks reduction contradicts the prevention of flooding. Above all, neither the links between inhabitants nor the links with their living environment provide a sufficient collective development base for a "risk culture" deployment.

Holmsten, Jonathan, Arnåsen, Joakim January 2020 (has links)
Linköpings municipality has during the autumn of 2019 established an electric bike-sharing system called LinBike with the purpose to contribute to the city’s development and reach its climate goals. The scope of this thesis is to study the users of LinBike to understand why it is used and whether it contributes to a sustainable mobility or not. Through qualitative street interviews with 24 users, five types of mobility users have been identified which summarize the users attitude towards the system. Analysis of the results demonstrate that the E-bikes are used mainly because of the convenience and the price of the service. LinBike helps make everyday travel easier than before. Improvement measures are proposed which are considered necessary for the service to maintain users and contribute to a more sustainable mobility. Conclusions are that climate-smart mobility services should focus on being comfortable and accessible to attract users. LinBike users usually replace other sustainable modes of transportation and thus it cannot be concluded that the service contributes to a more sustainable mobility.

Svensson, Magnus January 2020 (has links)

Information Use Environment of Religious Professionals: a Case Study of the Everyday Life Information Seeking Behavior of Catholic Clergy in Northern Nigeria

Dankasa, Jacob 08 1900 (has links)
This study explores the everyday life information seeking (ELIS) behavior of Catholic clergy in Northern Nigeria and describes their information use environment (IUE). It employed a mixed-method case study using survey and episodic interview techniques of data collection. The ELIS of Savolainen, the IUE of Taylor and the small world of Chatman were theoretical frameworks that guided this study. Findings showed that the IUE of these Catholic clergy is shaped by four elements: (1) geographical location and culture, (2) the celibate clergy, (3) their information needs, and (4) the information sources used to resolve these needs. Three types of information needs were identified: essential needs, circumstantial needs and intermittent needs. There was a high interrelatedness between the effects of culture and celibacy on the information seeking of these clergy. They are not likely to cross boundaries of their world to seek particularly essential information about their ministry or private lives. The findings of this study align with Chatman’s proposition that members who live in the round will not cross the boundaries of their world to seek information. The study found problems with access and availability of information, which included lack of familiarity with electronic/online library databases among the clergy, and the lack of archives and documentation of records and historical materials. It recommended the development of an archiving and documentation plan that digitizes paper documents for electronic management, including policies on data curation for the Catholic religious institutions in Nigeria.

Étude de la maison du terrain Théologitis

Perreault, Alexandra 08 1900 (has links)
Archaeological excavations carried out on the Theologitis field between 1986 and 1987, located in the centre of the modern village of Limenas and in the heart of the ancient city of Thasos, have brought to light the partial remains of a dwelling from the Roman period. From this house, three rooms were excavated, including a large rectangular room containing a floor mosaic preserved in exceptional condition. Our study is devoted to the analysis of these three rooms, in order to clarify their function and chronology, and to place this structure in the urban landscape of Thasos during the Roman period. The first part of this research is devoted to the history of Thasos and the place occupied by the city in the economic and political relations in northern Greece, but also elsewhere in the Mediterranean. The second part deals with the architectural development of Greek and Roman houses, in Greece, which were often influenced by foreign practices. Finally, the third part deals with the analysis of the house uncovered in the Theologitis plot and the function of the excavated rooms, by comparing the remains discovered with those of other Roman houses unearthed on the island.
