Leveraging MWEs in practical TAG parsing : towards the best of the two worlds / Optimisation d'analyse syntaxique basée sur les grammaires d'arbres adjoints grâce à la modélisation d'expression polylexicales et à l'algorithme A

Waszczuk, Jakub 26 June 2017 (has links)
In this thesis, we focus on multiword expressions (MWEs) and their relationships with syntactic parsing. The latter task consists in retrieving the syntactic relations holding between the words in a given sentence. The challenge of MWEs in this respect is that, in contrast to regular linguistic expressions, they exhibit various irregular properties which make them harder to deal with in natural language processing. In our work, we show that the challenge of the MWE-related irregularities can be turned into an advantage in practical symbolic parsing. Namely, with tree adjoining grammars (TAGs), which provide first-cLass support for MWEs, and A* search strategies, considerable speed-up gains can be achieved by promoting MWE-based analyses with virtually no loss in syntactic parsing accuracy. This is in contrast to purely statistical state-of-the-art parsers, which, despite efficiency, provide no satisfactory support for MWEs. We contribute a TAG-A* -MWE-aware parsing architecture with facilities (grammar compression and feature structures) enabling real-world applications, easily extensible to a probabilistic framework.

Italské názvy barev a jejich syntagmatika - korpusová analýza / Italian noun denoting colors and their collocations - a corpus analysis

ŠTIKAROVÁ, Pavla January 2016 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is to investigate the Italian names of colours, placing them into context and issue of translation of the names of colours into Czech. The thesis has two parts. The first part theoretical deals in general with colours and colour terms, colour perception, symbologies, research and etymology. This thesis also analyse the process of colour perception throughout history and in the evolution of humans. In the practical part we will then get through five subdivisions to the terms from the area of biology (the names of plants and animals), in which there occurs any of Italian names of colours then we get to idiomatic expressions, uniting with the verb, comparison and collocation, in which there also occur terms indicating colours. In all of these five areas, we analyse similarity between the two languages by using analogous databases in Czech language and translation into Czech language. The aim of this thesis is delimitation of colour terms in the Italian language, their definition, putting into context, confrontation of loose and established closer links and also their comparison with Czech.

Extração e representação semântica de fatos temporais / EXTIO – extraction of temporal information using ontologies

Gallina, Leandro Zulian January 2012 (has links)
This work describes EXTIO, an approach for the normalization of temporal expressions and the semantic organization of temporal facts extracted from natural language text. This approach allows search engines to benefit from temporal information in Web pages, performing inferences on temporal facts. EXTIO proposes: the normalization of relative temporal expressions through a formal grammar for the English language; and the organization of temporal facts extracted from normalized text in an ontology. Relative temporal expressions are textual time structures that refer to an absolute date whose value is relative to another date. For instance, “three months ago” is a relative temporal expression because its appearance in the text refers to a date three months before the document publication date. Experiments show that the proposed formal grammar for the normalization of relative temporal expressions has a better performance than the baseline in effectiveness and processing time. The main contribution of this work is the formal grammar for the normalization of temporal expressions in natural language text in English. Another contribution of this work is the semantic processing of temporal information available in documents, so that search engines may benefit from this information.

Duševní vlastnictví a folklor / Intellectual property and folklor

Müllerová, Martina January 2018 (has links)
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND FOLKLORE Abstract This thesis focuses on folklore within intellectual property law and examines current and suggested means of its protection. Although the notion of traditional cultural expressions is relatively new for jurisprudence, it quickly becomes significant, partly due to its political connotations. The first part introduces four essential terms: intellectual property, folklore, indigenous peoples and public domain. Furthermore, it describes notions of indigenous customary law and domaine public payant. The second part focuses on the relation between intellectual property and folkore. It discusses its nature and various interests that are linked to it. The same part looks at folklore as a cultural heritage of humankind. It also outlines main problematic uses of fokloric works and illustrates them with numerous examples. In the end it mentions so called WIPO Fact-Finding Missions. The third part looks at foklore in the framework of standard intellectual property law. It is divided into three chapters, namely Copyright, Industrial Property Rights and Other means of protection. The fourth part is dedicated to sui generis law. It provides an overview of attempts to amend conventional system of intellectual property law in order to better suit the needs of folkore. It presents...

Ontogênse do sorriso no contexto da interação mãe-bebê / Smile's ontogeny in the mother-infant interaction context

Deise Maria Leal Fernandes Mendes 12 March 2008 (has links)
This doctoral dissertation had the following purposes: (I) to propose an approach to the study of smile that integrates a historical, socio-cultural and evolutionary, and biological dimmension; (II) to carry out two empirical studies, the first one longitudinal, reaching from the third week to the sixth lifes month of two babies, and the second one, a transversal studie, at the first, the second and the fifth months of life, with the proposition of: (II.1) to investigate any eventual standard of smile exibition in terms of frequency, duration and morfological characteristics, and any possible transformation in this standard during the first six months of life; (II.2) to analyze the smile standards observed in the presence of mothers affective behaviors during the first six months of life; and (II.3) to verify if the babies can answer contingently, with smiles, to the mothers affectives behaviors, and also if there are specific standards for each kind of smile. Two mothers and their babies participated in the longitudinal study and were videotaped at home. Twenty mothers and their babies participated, for each of the three groups of different ages in the transversal study, and were videotaped at home. The observation categories in these two studies are codified in two parts. The first part had mutually exclusive and exhaustive behaviors (babys smiles). The Cohens Kappa and the agreement indexes indicated good reliability inter observers. Among the evidences, it was verified a incrising curve trajetorial tendency for the babiess smiles in the period studied, F(1,22) = 6,77, p<0,05 for the first baby, and F(1,23) = 7,85, p<0,05 for the second one, both of them in the longitudinal study context. The two babies have revealed a particular tendency to frequentely display one or two kinds of smile. Babies also answered contingently with smiles to mothers affective behaviors in the two studies. In the longitudinal resourch, correlations between the more frequent kinds of the babies smiles and his mothers smiles were verified (r=0,77, p<0,0017 for one baby, and r=0,62, p<0,0017 for the other). In the transversal research, correlations between the simple smile and the mothers smile were verified (r=0,70, p<0,0007). Differents kinds of smiles have been exibited from the babies, in the both studies, longitudinal and transversal, as contigencial anwers to the mothers observed behaviors. This and others results sinalize to an association between the babies smile and his mothers affective behaviors. The relevance of investigating babiessmile contrats with the lack of Brazilian studies on this theme. This dissertation intended to contributeas an effort to supply this gap.

The temporal concept is a content difficult to be learned. Linguistic expressions of time also present serious difficulties regarding their use. The epistemological issue which arises is whether learning these contents depend on verbal language. The purpose of this work is to analyse the relationships between the temporal concept and the time linguistic manifestations and investigate whether stimulation of oral narrative that is characterised by action predicates, acts in favour of such an assimilation. The theoretical one aimed at understanding how temporal concept development occurs according to Piaget, and how time expression manifests itself linguistically in Brazilian Portuguese. The empirical phase took place with a group of five children of 8 and 9 years attending a public state school, and consisted of three procedures, the first and the third ones being done with each child and the second with the whole group working together: (1) assessing of temporal concepts and recording of oral narratives expressed by the children; (2) carrying out an intervention scheme in group during 56 meetings lasting for 9 months, in which oral narrative was used as a methodological tool to get the children become aware of the temporal concept and the time linguistic expressions manifestations; (3) application of procedure (1) after intervention. Collected data analysis showed that the children had developed the temporal concept during intervention scheme, and that they had also started to use linguistic expressions of time in greater quantity and in a way much closer to standard Portuguese. Conclusions pointed up that oral narrative favours the development of both the concept of physical time and manifestation of time linguistic expressions as far as it is operated in order to make possible the actions co-ordinations necessary and specific to assimilation of each one of these two acquirements...(Complete abstract, access undermentioned electronic address)

Video Analysis for Micro- Expression Spotting and Recognition / Analyse de vidéo pour la détection et la reconnaissance de micro-expressions

Lu, Hua 05 April 2018 (has links)
Recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the computer vision in automatic facial micro-expression algorithms. this has been driven by applications in high-stakes contexts such as criminal investigations, airport and mass transit checkpoints, counter terrorism, and so on. micro-expression approaches in computer vision area consist of detecting and classifying them from videos. compared to macro-expression, a micro-expression involves a rapid change which lasts less than a half of second, and moreover, its subtle appearance in part of the face makes detection and recognition difficult to achieve. effective facial features play a crucial role for micro-expression analysis. this thesis focuses on the feature extraction parts, by developing various feature extraction methods for types of micro-expression detection and recognition tasks.the detection of micro-expressions is the first step for its analysis. this thesis aims to spot micro-expressions from videos. existing detection methods based on features, such as the local binary patterns, the histogram of gradient, the optical flow suffer difficulties in computation consuming leading to real-time implementation problem. thus, in this thesis, the spotting method based on integral projection to address this problem. however, all the above features are extracted from cropped faces which usually cause residual mis-registration that appears between images. in order to deal with this issue, another detection method based on geometrical feature is proposed. it involves the geometrical distances between facial key-points without the need of cropping face. this captures subtle geometric displacements along sequences and is proved to be suitable for different facial analysis tasks that require high computational speed. for micro-expression recognition, motion features based on the optical flow have advantages in characterizing subtle movements on face among the existing recognition features. it is still a difficult problem for optical flow to determine the accurate locations of each facial feature mappings between different images even though the face images have been aligned. such an issue may give rise to wrong orientation and magnitude estimation associated to the optical flow field. in order to address this problem, the motion boundary histograms are considered. it can remove unexpected motions caused by residual mis-registration that appears between images cropped from different frames. nevertheless, the relative motion can be captured. based on the the motion boundary, a new descriptor the fusion motion boundary histograms is introduced. this feature is generated by combing both the horizontal and the vertical components of the differential of optical flow as inspired from the motion boundary histograms. the main contributions of this thesis lie at the study of features for micro-expressions spotting and recognition. experiments on the micro-expression databases show the effectiveness of the presented contributions.

A utilização do paradigma de equivalência de estímulos para modificar a preferência alimentar / The use of stimulus equivalence paradigm to modify preference food.

Gisele Straatmann 05 March 2008 (has links)
The aim of the present study was to verify the acquisition of symbolic properties of facial expressions of emotion for real and fictitious food names in adolescents, using a stimulus equivalence paradigm. In Experiment 1, conditional relations between facial expressions (one of happiness and two expressing emotion neutrality) and real food names were trained by simultaneous matching-to-sample procedure. Three experimental groups differed only on the amount of training (Group 2 and 3 with overtraining). Pictures of facial expressions (Set-A) were related to abstract line drawing stimulus (Set-B and Set-C); C stimuli were related to food names (D). So, the AB, AC and BD relations were trained. Finally, they received the equivalence tests CD/DC. The participants were asked to rate the foods names for pleasantness in the beginning and in the end of the experiment by a questionnaire with fifty food names. These were linked to a five point scale of facial expressions and a preference test that had ten food names selected from the questionnaire. Fifty five participants that were in the fifth grade of public and private schools concluded Experiment I. Thirty five participants demonstrated equivalence (nine in Group 1, eleven in Group 2 and 15 in Group 3). The food trained with the happy face was valued in both final instruments of evaluation of the food preference as more pleasant by sixty six percent of the Group 1 participants and forty five percent of the Group 3. In Group 2, forty five percent valued as more pleasant this food only in the final evaluation of the preference test. The food related to the feminine neutral face showed more positive evaluations in Groups 2 and 3. On the other hand, the food equivalent to the masculine neutral face had a reduction in the food preference test in Groups 2 and 3. Experiment II aimed to verify if the transfer of function would happen if fictitious names of foods related to facial expressions of happiness, neutrality and sadness were used via delayed matching-to-sample procedure. Stimuli of Set-A and Set-D were different from Experiment I and had schematic expressions and fictitious food names (capira, fulito and piteba), respectively. A five point scale questionnaire of schematic expressions was used to value the fictitious names of foods in the beginning and in the end of the experiment. Thirty six participants finished Experiment II and twenty five showed stimulus equivalence. There was a significant interaction between the final evaluations and fictitious food names (p<0,001) in the equivalence group. The participants increased the final evaluations of the food trained with the happy face (capira), maintained almost the same evaluations of the food related with the neutral face (fulito) and considerably reduced the judgments of piteba, which was trained with the sad face.

UM CATÁLOGO DE REFATORAÇÕES ENVOLVENDO EXPRESSÕES LAMBDA EM JAVA / A CATALOG OF REFACTORINGS INVOLVING LAMBDA EXPRESSIONS IN JAVA

Teixeira Júnior, Jânio Elias 28 August 2014 (has links)
Programming language evolution provides room for improving existing programs. Developers can upgrade their projects, applying new features available in the latest language versions. However, during maintenance activities, the code artefacts can become distant from their original conception. In this context, the use of transformation techniques and processes can be interesting, as it reduces the error-proneness when improving source code structure. Refactoring is a process of improving the design of a software system, modifying its internal structure without changing its external observable behavior. From this scenario, this work presents a refactoring catalog focused on the new features of the Java language. Such refactorings are related to lambda expressions and seek to allow the transformation of features implemented in Java 7 for the current version 8. To evaluate the proposed refactorings applicability, we developed a static analysis and used it in a set of open source projects aiming to search for opportunities to apply those refactorings.
