The perpetual, neglected conflicts : A comparative study of ethnic tolerance in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Rwanda post civil war and genocide

Sobo, Medina January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to examine Bosnia-Herzegovina and Rwanda's tolerance and reconciliation processes after the conflicts by answering the research question 'How can we explain the similarities and differences between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Rwanda’s reconciliation processes in terms of ethnic tolerance among its inhabitants post civil war and genocide?'. An explanatory theory based on Brounéus’ perspectives and recommendations on reconciliation is used throughout the study. The main findings are that both countries have had diverse approaches and have not fulfilled the requirements for achieving ethnic tolerance and reconciliation.

Barns teologiska språk : Barns förståelse av försoning i kritisk relation till Miroslav Volf / Children´s theological language : Children’s conception of reconciliation in critical relation to Miroslav Volf

Kikuchi, Sayuri January 2023 (has links)
In this essay I study how children construct their theological language in relation to the topic of reconciliation. The children's voices are put in critical dialog with the Croatian theologian Miroslav Volf’s notion of reconciliation in relation to embrace. The children’s perception of reconciliation develop and expand the theological concept of reconciliation. Seemingly, children's theological language describe reconciliation as an act that transcends time and space. Children construct their theological language through a materiality based on their own corporeal experiences of conflict and reconciliation.

Vad är en "god" herde? : Martyrologiska och offerkultiska aspekter av Jesu död i Joh 10:11–18

Stenberg, Samuel January 2024 (has links)
This thesis examines the concepts of Sacrifice, Atonement, and Passion in the context of the Early Christian Johannine Tradition. Specifically, the study examines the relationship between John 10:11–18, that is, the pericope of the Good Shepherd, and John 18–19, that is, the Johannine Passion Narrative: with special focus on the theme of Jesus' death and its connection to the Maccabean martyr traditions and the Levitical cult respectively. The conclusion of the thesis is that John 10:11–18 specifically speaks of Jesus' death as a martyrological death, with parallels to the atoning deaths of the Maccabean martyrs. However, this does not imply that the death of Jesus in the Gospel of John is to be interpreted exclusively as a martyrological death. As for John 10:11–18, it seems to mainly speak of Jesus' death in martyrological terms, but undoubtedly, there are several instances in the Johannine Corpus that on the other hand seem to speak of Jesus' death in cultic terms, especially with regards to the theme of the Lamb of God in John 1:29. The aforementioned conclusion of the thesis constitutes a mediating contribution to the scholarly debate regarding the exact nature of Jesus' death in the Gospel of John, in that it speaks of Jesus' death as an atoning martyrological sacrifice – the sacrifice being the mediating factor between the two interpretive traditions.

Variational Bayesian Inference for Reconciliation of Gene Trees and Species Trees

Liu, Xindi January 2024 (has links)
Gene tree-species tree reconciliation is the problem of mapping each node in a gene tree to a position in a species tree. Several methods have been used to address this problem. Variational inference is a method for finding the best approximation to the true distribution in a family of distributions. In this project, we investigated whether variational inference is a useful method to address the gene tree-species tree reconciliation problem. The distribution of trees is modeled by a so-called Subsplit Bayesian Network (SBN), and the evolution process is modeled by a birth-death process with constant duplication- and loss rate. We implemented the method in Python and compared it with A Variational Approach to Bayesian Phylogenetic Inference [1] (VBPI) [1] using synthetic data. The result showed that our method outperformed VBPI in most test cases.

Same eller svensk? : Om livsåskådningsperspektiv i filmen Sameblod

Wahlund, Stina January 2021 (has links)
Abstract This essay will be interested in what the sami minority experience of swedish majority society can look like. In short, the purpose is to contribute to an increased understanding of sami life as representatives of a minority in a swedish majority society. The primary material that will be used is the film Sameblod (2016) which deals with identity creation, what it can mean to hide or renegotiate one´s identity and also issues concerning reconciliation on various levels. I will identify and make visible different perspectives on life, as they are portrayed in the film. In order to make visible different perspectives on life, its possible problems and how these can be interpreted, analytical questions will be asked of the material. The survey will then address these analytical questions based on different thematic divisions, identity, world-views, sami minority in the encounter with majority society and reconciliation. In summary, the analysis shows some particularly prominent perspectives on life. The first is a sami minority perspective and the second perspective is from a swedish majority society perspective. A third perspective shows a person as a bearer of both a sami perspective and a swedish majority society perspective, which shows how a person´s identity can be shaped and renegotiated through life. Relational problems of various kinds appear in the film. Both on an individual level, on an interpersonal level and in the relationship between the sami minority and swedish majority society. Key words: Sameblod, worldviews, identity, sami minority in relation to swedish majority, reconciliation.
