Marcel Broodthaers and Fred Wilson : contemporary strategies for institutional criticism

Boyle, Amy L. January 2005 (has links)
This thesis compares two contemporary artists who practice institutional criticism, Marcel Broodthaers and Fred Wilson. Looking specifically at Broodthaers's fictional museum project the Musee d Art Moderne, Departement des Aigles from 1968-1972 and Wilson's 1992 installation Mining the Museum at the Maryland Historical Society, this thesis will critically analyze each artist's similar application of deconstruction as a method. Both artists employ allegory and history as aesthetic strategies of deconstruction; using allegorical structure, the artists mobilize objects that have been arrested in history, disrupting a historical continuum that would otherwise remain foreclosed. The focus of this study will be to explore the critical approaches of Broodthaers and Wilson individually as well as the similar theoretical tendencies of the artists jointly; this investigation will assess the effect of institutional criticism on the museum's present condition, unfolding both what has changed and what is still at play within this practice.

Granstam, Emma January 2018 (has links)
Musikhögskolan i Stockholm. Som resultat av mötena skrev kompositören ett stycke, At night, stars will show.

Jönsson, Emma January 2009 (has links)
SIDA’s relief work in Bosnia aims at making the country ready for a membership in the EU where the main focus lies in the creation of a sustainable state as well as liberalizing the market to create an increased economic cooperation between Bosnia and the rest of Europe. These ambitions are closely related to the neo-liberal theory of state building which aims at creating democratic societies in line with the western democracy model, with a liberal economy constituting its base. Despite generous financial aid, the democratic and economic development in Bosnia is moving very slowly and the ethnical tensions seem to grow despite international involvement in the country. The purpose of this study is to evaluate SIDA’s present relief work in Bosnia out of a peace perspective. Possibilities and problems with SIDA’s work will be brought up and the study intends to answer whether SIDA’s work in Bosnia serves the perspective of peace. The methodological procedure consists of an analysis of the documents on SIDA’s current relief work in Bosnia and a literature study of theories concerning state building. The results of the study show that the parts of SIDA’s work in Bosnia that ground in the neo-liberal theory betweentimes undermine economic and democratic development as well as peace. Investments are made to gear Bosnia to European requirements which makes it difficult to accommodate specific Bosnian needs. In the conclusion, a more bottom-up inspired development work from SIDA is therefore suggested where the focus will be on working more from the local and civil society together with actively creating jobs in order to increase the economic development.

Revolution i Hollywood : En analys av Judas and the Black Messiah utifrån den kritiska teorin / Revolution in Hollywood : An analysis of Judas and the Black Messiah based on critical theory

Willebrand Bünger, Kristian January 2022 (has links)

Shootin Up the Past: Terministic Frontiers in Angle of Repose and High Noon

Dalrymple, James C. 18 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The West has long been an important geographic and symbolic space for the United States. In the 19th and 20th centuries that space became the subject of numerous popular works of fiction, first in print and later in the cinema. These texts eventually formed a specialized genre, the Western, which had its own conventions, styles, and themes. Wallace Stegner's Angle of Repose and Fred Zinnemann's High Noon, both seminal western texts from the mid-twentieth century, seek to reinterpret those conventions. While the Western is often characterized as a genre of violent masculinity and rugged individualism, these two texts employ conventional Western motifs in an effort to articulate a metafictional criticism of those ideas. Ultimately, they posit a reality in which traditional portrayals of the West lead to alienation, while also advocating an escape from that alienation.

Safety and Efficacy of the FRED Jr Flow Re-Direction Endoluminal Device for Intracranial Aneurysms: Retrospective Multicenter Experience With Emphasis on Midterm Results

Jesser, Jessica, Alberalar, Nilüfer D., Kizilkilic, Osman, Saatci, Isil, Baltacioglu, Feyyaz, Özlük, Enes, Killer-Oberpfalzer, Monika, Vollherbst, Dominik F., Islak, Civan, Cekirge, Saruhan H., Bendszus, Martin, Möhlenbruch, Markus, Koçer, Naci 27 March 2023 (has links)
Background and Purpose: Flow diversion is increasingly used as an endovascular treatment for intracranial aneurysms. In this retrospective multicenter study, we analyzed the safety and efficacy of the treatment of intracranial, unruptured, or previously treated but recanalized aneurysms using Flow Re-Direction Endoluminal Device (FRED) Jr with emphasis on midterm results. Materials and Methods: Clinical and radiological records of 150 patients harboring 159 aneurysms treated with FRED Jr at six centers between October 2014 and February 2020 were reviewed and consecutively included. Clinical outcome was measured by using the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). Anatomical results were assessed according to the O’Kelly-Marotta (OKM) scale and the Cekirge-Saatci Classification (CSC) scale. Results: The overall complication rate was 24/159 (16%). Thrombotic-ischemic events occurred in 18/159 treatments (11%). These resulted in long-term neurological sequelae in two patients (1%) with worsening from pre-treatment mRS 0–2 and mRS 4 after treatment. Complete or near-complete occlusion of the treated aneurysm according to the OKM scale was reached in 54% (85/158) at 6-month, in 68% (90/133) at 1-year, and in 83% (77/93) at 2-year follow-up, respectively. The rates of narrowing or occlusion of a vessel branch originating from the treated aneurysm according to the CSC scale were 11% (12/108) at 6-month, 20% (17/87) at 1-year, and 23% (13/57) at 2-year follow-up, respectively, with all cases being asymptomatic. Conclusions: In this retrospective multicenter study, FRED Jr was safe and effective in the midterm occlusion of cerebral aneurysms. Most importantly, it was associated with a high rate of good clinical outcome.

Persson, Maria January 2012 (has links)
Since Muammar al-Qadhafi seized power in Libya, the country's history has been characterized by a series of violent events, both in its relation to other states, but also in its internal affairs. In the middle of February 2011 violent demonstrations erupted in Libya which was countered with violence by Qadhafi´s regime. The international community observed the violence, which led to the adoption of resolution 1973, by the Security Council. This thesis is based on a legal method combined with a case study for the purpose of explaining the adoption of resolution 1973, and the factors which might had contributed to the adoption of the resolution. The analysis is based on the legal framework established in the UN Charter, and the thoughts of the classical realism and the English school constitutes the theoretical framework. This study has resulted in the conclusion that the international community has acted on its commitments outlined in the UN Charter, that states act pursuant to its interests and survival, and that the society of states pursue to attain their common goals and to preserve the existing system. Keywords: Classical realism; The English school; UN Charter; International peace and security; States self-interest; Common goals of the society of states
