When delineating the position and the space occupied by the woman in the picaresque classic, this work search to establish an opposition of this with the women s representation in the rogue novel Meu tio Atahualpa by Paulo de Carvalho Neto, published for the first time in Brazil on 1978. Therefore, having the feminist criticism as theoretical referential, it tries to watch, through the textual analysis, the construction of the referring images to the feminine, like this, the space that the woman passes to incorporate inside of that contemporary narrative and its meaning for the understanding of the new relationships established starting from the structuring of the gender studies.

/ Abstract : The main purpose of this dissertation is to perform a decolonial reading of the novel I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem (1986), written by the Guadalupean author Maryse Condé. Taking a decolonial perspective as the basis for this reading, I focus on the voice, the cosmology and the experience of the subaltern in Condé?s text. This work aims to analyze the character Tituba through concepts such as, border epistemology, coloniality of power, and decolonization of gender and its intersections to conceive her as a decolonizing agent of the patriarchal hegemonic structures. Inhabiting the border space, Tituba articulates herself as a receptor and mediator of new conceptions of identitie(s) and culture(s), which are revealed through her crossings between the Caribbean and English colonies. In reading Condé?s Tituba through decolonial lenses, I explore the ways in which this character articulates a politics of location and of reception in building transnacional feminisms.

Teixeira, Izabel Cristina dos Santos January 2011 (has links)

This thesis analyzes two narratives from Mozambique: Terra sonâmbula (Mia Couto, 1992) and Ventos do apocalipse (Paulina Chiziane, 1999), in light of the ecofeminist theory. From the two text cited, which have in common the civil war in that country ( 1976-1992), we analyze the two novels in the light of the above-mentioned theory emphasizing interpersonal relationships and those with the environment, taking into account the levels of destruction that the country was plunged since its struggle for political independence. In this regard, noting that relationships of gender and the environment intersect, we see Portuguese colonialism represented in both fictions, creating environments destroyed and destructive to humanity, once the imperial metropolis has taken over necessary goods (such as natural resources of the colony) for their own survival. Moreover, this oppressive system has generated violence and wars among ethnic-racial groups, even after the end of colonialism. In view of these facts, ecofeminism has established itself by the discussion that these two books raise, by questioning the environmental impacts, extending feminist studies. To this end, it employs interdisciplinary studies, ranging from understanding the nature of space as well as analysis of the cultural geography of each place in focus. By incorporating a range of broad and diverse knowledge, present in the novels mentioned, ecofeminism also points to the end of the existence of absolute truths such as the hierarchical dichotomy between human and nonhuman, integrating humans to the natural world, as one of its components.
/ Abstract : This thesis investigates feminist counterculture and race issues in Hettie Jones? writing, more specifically in her three collections of poems, Drive, All Told and Doing 70, and her memoir How I Became Hettie Jones. It is possible to recognize hidden voices in the works of the Beat Generation women such as Jones, who began finding herself as a writer along with the movement and remained true to her writing which sought to spread awareness in relation to racial and gender discrimination throughout the decades that followed the post-war era. Being white and embedded in the African-American culture of a conservative New York, Jones chronicles her hardships and hopes as a woman, a mother, and a writer in the pages of her memoir and poems. Nowadays, discussions about the work of the Beat Generation women are being expanded in order to fill the gap in the history of the movement and to make everyone aware of discrimination and social inequality, especially in relation to race and gender.

? O ramalhete (1845); Maria Benedita Bormann (Délia, 1853-1895) ? Lésbia (1890); Inês Sabino (1853-1911) ? Lutas do coração (1898) e Júlia Lopes de Almeida (1862-1934) ? Eles e elas (1910).
/ Abstract : The contribution of this study, which focuses on selected writers and narratives, deals with the analysis of their books, written in the mid-19th century and in the beginning of the 20th century, associated with how Brazilian writers from the 80?s think about divorce. Before writing about divorce, marriage must be brought up, since it is an issue acknowledged by the writers in their books: Ana Eurídice Eufrosina de Barandas (1806-?) ? O ramalhete (1845); Maria Benedita Bormann (Délia, 1853-1895) ? Lésbia (1890); Inês Sabino (1853-1911) ? Lutas do coração (1898); and Júlia Lopes de Almeida (1862-1934) ? Eles e elas (1910). Divorce was more specifically addressed in the light of Josefina Álvares de Azevedo (1810-1885), in the journal A Família (1888-1898), Nísia Floresta (1810-1854), in Opúsculo humanitário (1853); Carmen Dolores (1852-1910), in the chronicle Ao esvoaçar da ideia (1910); Francisca Clotilde (1862-1935), in A divorciada (1902); and Andradina de Oliveira (1864-1935), in Divórcio? (1912). When the writers expose their opinions, they defend the theme. However, their attitudes wavered between the wish to see divorce being fully exercised and the moral commitment to the ecclesiastical system established by the institution of marriage and family. Joan W. Scott, June E. Hahner, Constância Lima Duarte, Mary Del Priore, Nádia Battella Gotlib, Norma Telles, Zahidé Lupinacci Muzart and other scholars clarify why, at that time, women oscillated between the boundaries of the household and the longing for freedom.

Made available in DSpace on 2016-01-15T14:51:50Z (GMT).
/ Abstract : In this study, we investigate the journalistic and literary work of Carmen Dolores (one of the pseudonyms of Emilia MoncorvoBandeira de Mello). Writer, chronicler, lecturer, dramaturgist and literary critic of the 19th century, she is commonly referred to as, in the intellectual field of her epoch, manlike, courageous, and audacious. From her work, we focus her journalistic, intellectual, critic and feminist acting by analyzing her chronicles published in O Paiznewspaper from 1905 to 1910. Recognized by the journalistic critic of her time, politically forgotten by canonical Literature History and Literature Critic along the 20th century, she is being rediscovered by contemporaneous feminist literary critic. We followed the trend of researches made in terms of retrieving works made by female writers, concerned about discover her collection, in order to analyze it, reveal repeated misconceptions, as well as to understand the insertion process of this woman into the historical-social-cultural context, identifying the prejudices faced by her; in other words, to evaluate the feminist position occupied by her in both intellectual and literary fields. This way, we aim to, concomitantly, give visibility to the work of a feminist writer of the 19th century, which waspolitically forgotten by the canonical studies, and to contribute with the rereading of the literary canon and to the construction of the literary historiography of Brazilian female writers. Such purposes conducted us to the thesis that the retrieval of literary and journalistic works, as well as the life and intellectual and feminist acting of Carmen Dolores, could lead to the recognizing and visibility of this writer and journalist as an intellectual feminist of the Brazilian Belle Époque. Notions of Feminist Criticism, Cultural Studies, New History, and Biographical Criticism are used in this work as theoretical support. Critical texts of chroniclers from the Belle Époque, other secondary sources, such as historians and canonical literary critics like Silvio Romero (1888) and Luciana Stegagno-Picchio (1997), as well as contemporary academic researches regarding feminism criticism were used in the literature review of this work. Aiming to undo misconceptions, to fulfill the lack of information of contemporary readers, and to build a biographical profile of the author from her social context and literary field, we make use of primary sources, such as parochial registers, institutional documents, obituaries, and social notes published in Brazilian periodicals during the lifetime of Emilia Mancorvo Bandeira de Mello.

Um outro olhar sobre o olhar maldoso

Blume, Rosvitha Friesen January 2005 (has links)
Tese - (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão. Programa de Pós-graduação em Literatura / Made available in DSpace on 2013-07-15T23:33:03Z (GMT).
