Peres, Ariádine January 2014 (has links)
This study aim to identify what is the behaviour of Brazilian public companies regarding the use of financial resources of cash flows (internal resources) in investments and not investments (for purposes that are not configured as a real investment project) in the short and long term and show how this is related to the degree of financial constraints faced by firms. To achieve this aim, four regressions were estimated by OLS ( Ordinary Least Square), each with one of the response variables corresponding to the main uses of cash, ie , cash holding, investments, dividends and external finance reduction and the explanatory variables given by the cash flow in periods t , t - 1 and t - 2 and some control variables specific of the firm. The results suggest that restricted and unrestricted Brazilian companies behave differently when they receive a positive shock on cash flows and their behavior also differs in the short and long term. When constrained and unconstrained firms receive a positive impact on cash flows, they retain cash in the contemporary period and intertemporally allocate such resources. Constrained firms invest more in the short term while the unrestricted invest more in the long run. In the short term, unconstrained firms distribute more dividends than unconstrained firms and in the long run, the coefficients of cash flows are not significant for either groups. In the short term unconstrained firms reduce external finance, while constrained firms raise more external finance and in the long term, this behavior is reversed. Thus, it is clear that it matters to consider the long term as well as financial constraints faced by firms.

The impact of the management of accounting fixed assets in the financial decision making in the companies of the fishing sector associated to the National Fisheries Society of Peru in 2018

Remotti Becerra, David Enrique, Segovia Zavaleta, César Anderson 24 May 2020 (has links)
This research work aims to analyze the impact of the management of accounting fixed assets in financial decision making in the companies of the fishing sector associated with the National Fisheries Society of Peru in 2018. Due to the fact that in this sector the companies They use fixed assets throughout the entire capture, production and finished product process. Companies in the fisheries sector focus their operations on the basis of fixed assets for this reason a relevant factor to consider is the management of fixed assets, whose purpose is to mitigate the inherent risks that they present throughout their life cycle. Based on the correct application of the fixed asset, it is intended that companies in this industry have efficient asset management, more reliable financial information, improve financial indicators, among others. All this allows management to make more accurate financial decisions based on economic reality. The following thesis work is intended to demonstrate whether there is an impact between the management of accounting fixed assets and the making of financial decisions, so that companies in the sector identify these possible advantages and can optimize their processes. As a result of the investigation, the objectives and hypotheses were validated, both general and specific, demonstrating the correlation between the study variables. / Tesis

A Case Study of Financial Literacy and Debt of Immigrants in Lloydminster, Canada

Durodola, Oludamola Olalere 01 January 2017 (has links)
The high debt-to-income ratios and the low financial literacy levels among Canadian immigrants are hindering public welfare, macroeconomic policies, and economic growth. The purpose of this qualitative exploratory case study was to explore why immigrants to Lloydminster, Canada possess high debt-to-income ratios in their financial portfolios by examining pertinent themes and patterns between their debt profiles and their financial literacy levels. The life cycle hypothesis, rational choice theory, and bounded rationality theory grounded the study. Data collection from the purposeful sample included semistructured face-to-face interviews with 13 adult immigrants and a focus group discussion with 6 adult immigrants, all of whom lived, worked, or owned a business in the city of Lloydminster. The application of Yin's 5-step data analytic procedure revealed key findings that described the pattern between immigrants' debt profiles and their financial literacy levels including environmental curiosity, excellent credit score, family survival, rational decision making, social institutions, economic institutions, pressure impacting financial decisions, credit facility impacting financial decisions, emotions impacting financial decisions, and discount deals impacting financial decisions. Immigrants to Canada can utilize the findings from this study to develop their financial literacy levels and stay committed to making sensible financial decisions, thus triggering positive social change. Sound spending habits could have positive implications for Canada's Gross Domestic Product growth and immigrants' wellbeing.

Magkänsla och konsten att fatta beslut : En undersökning av finansiella beslut / Gut Feeling and the Art of Decision-Making

Bellange Aviles, Leonardo January 2022 (has links)
Financial decisions made on gut feeling are one of the fundamental financial approaches. Decisions made on the wrong premises can lead to financial losses. By making the right decision based on the right premises, the results can be desirable. There are many theories and models to explain decision making. Although there are many theories, these are mainly divided into two types, normative theory and descriptive theory. The normative supports rational decision-making, the latter how people make decisions. Both of these theories reflect reality, even descriptive theory seeks a certain level of rationality in actual decision-making. The study was carried out using a qualitative method, where the data was based on interviews with seven decision-makers who make some form of financial decision. The analysis of this survey showed that gut feeling is something the surveyed respondents used in decisions, sometimes arbitrary and sometimes with a strong underlying basis of rational thinking. The essay can show that gut feeling according to the concept of the theory is variable depending on the area of knowledge. Instead, it can be emphasized that it is used in a variety of situations. The conclusion showed that there are too many definitions, distinctions and basic conditions that had to be sorted out first before the question could be answered in its entirety, as the question could not be answered in a reasonably concise manner for ten weeks. The study showed that gut feeling and financial decision making are nevertheless used according to the theory and in this study.

Decisões de financiamento em empresas brasileiras: uma comparação entre a static tradeoff e a pecking order theory no Brasil / Financial decisions in Brazilian companies: a comparison between the static tradeoff and pecking order theory in Brazil

Amaral, Paulo Ferreira 11 March 2011 (has links)
The comparison between two theories in the finance area of capital structure in business is the goal of this work. Using tests developed by Shyam-Sunder & Myers (1999) and Rajan & Zingales (1995), the data of Brazilian non-financial publicly traded were analyzed between the years 2000 and 2010 to determine whether they preferred the expected behaviors in the Static Trade-off Theory or the Pecking Order Theory. The ways to finance and the causes and consequences of these decisions in organizations are important issues that have been discussed in numerous scholarly works. This study sought to examine the literature related to the theme and replicating tests performed abroad in order to verify the similarities, differences and the reasons related to such results. The results indicate the problabe preference behavior provided by Pecking Order Theory, ie the companies studied in the period analyzed, used, first, internally generated funds (operating cash), second using third-party funds through bank loans or issuance of bonds or issuance of bonds, sending shares only as a last resort. Another conclusion is that Brazilian companies traded problaby did not seek to achieve or maintain an ideal goal of indebtedness, wich balances the costs and benefits generated by the loans.

The Relationship Between the Big Five Personality Traits and Authentic Leadership

Baptiste, Bronti 01 January 2018 (has links)
Effective leadership, ethical leadership, and leadership emergence have been extensively researched, but there remains a lack of research on the relationship between the big 5 personality traits and authentic leadership. This quantitative study was based on the empirical principles of the big 5 model and guided by the big 5 theory. In addition, this research asked if there was a relationship between the big 5 model and authentic leadership, and which combination of the 5 personality traits best predict authentic leadership. Fifty-five adult participants, employed in various corporations, were recruited from a convenience sample. They rated their leaders by completing an Authentic Leadership Questionnaire, the NEO Five-Factor Inventory-3, and a demographic questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analyses and the results showed that the big 5 personality model explained 46.9% of the variance (F (5, 49) = 8.65, p < .001. Conscientiousness positively (β = 0.40, p = .003) correlated with authentic leadership while neuroticism was inversely (β = -0.04, p = .046) correlated. These 2 traits best predicted authentic leadership and provided the strongest correlation. Extraversion (β = -.04, p = .739) and openness-to-experience (β = .25, p = .080) were non-significant traits. In the Pearson Correlation analysis, agreeableness had a weak inverse correlation with authentic leadership, (r (53) = -0.30, p = .027), and contributed 8.9% of the variance in predicting authentic leadership. Conscientious leaders with low level of neuroticism, who practice authentic leadership, will bring about positive social change by reducing unethical practices, improving communication with employers, employees, and consumers, and improving employee morale.

Kirch, Guilherme January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to empirically verify the implications of the Almeida and Campello (2007) and Acharya, Almeida, and Campello (2007) models in a context of simultaneous financial decisions of the firm while taking into account the effects of the legal environment on the credit capacity of the firm. To achieve this goal I estimated a system of four simultaneous equations, which incorporates recent theoretical advancements, over a sample of firms from several countries. The results suggest the rejection of the empirical implications, since the expected differences between constrained and unconstrained firms could not be confirmed. The results also suggest that ignoring the simultaneity among financial decisions induces a misspecification that could have serious consequences on the estimated parameters and that the financial constraints arises in almost all firms, possibly in different degrees.

Ackehed, Ida, Molin Olsson, Elias January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study has been to examine the possible relationship between patterns on the stock market and the capital structure of IT-companies. Furthermore, the study attempts to contribute a deeper understanding of the ways Chief Financial Officers (CFO) and Chief Executive Officers (CEO) handle aspects pertaining to levels of debt, solidity, the market when making investment decisions and factors that influence a company´s value. This has been done using the Market Timing Hypothesis as the main theoretical frame of reference. The study has primarily been conducted using quantitative data analysis in the form of multiple regression. Qualitative interviews have been subsequently conducted with the purpose of enhancing the statistical findings. The results from the study indicate that financial decisions largely vary depending on the situation, albeit market value being an influencing factor. Moreover, the profitability of the company and the amount of fixed assets play a role in financial decisions. The respondents further noted that the amount of equity and debt of the company does affect its value.
